- Mold processing.
Die parts, templates, small parts with complex shapes and narrow grooves, etc. processed from hard alloy hardened steel materials, especially the processing of electrodes for punching dies, extrusion dies, plastic dies and EDM cavity dies. For example, the holes of small concave molds with complex shapes and often sharp corners and narrow slits can be processed after quenching with an integral structure, which can not only ensure the accuracy of the mold, but also simplify the design and manufacture. Another example is the small and medium-sized punching die. In the past, the processing method of split die and curve grinding was used, but now the overall processing of wire EDM is used, which improves the matching accuracy, shortens the manufacturing cycle and reduces the cost.
- Trial production of new products.
During the trial production of new products, some key parts often require mold manufacturing, but the processing mold cycle is long and the cost is high. Using wire cutting processing can directly cut parts, thereby reducing costs and shortening the trial production cycle of new products.
- Difficult to machine parts.
In the processing of precision holes, templates and their forming tools and precision slots, it is difficult to use mechanical cutting methods, but it is more convenient to use wire cutting. In addition, many T-tools used in EDM (mostly made of red copper, with poor machinability) are also processed by wire EDM.
- Precious metal cutting.
Since the wire size for wire cutting is much smaller than the size of the cutting tool (the thinnest wire size can reach 0.02mm), cutting precious metals with it can reduce a lot of kerf consumption, thus reducing costs.
