Stem Cell Banking involves the collection, processing, testing, analysis, cryopreservation and storage of umbilical cord blood, cord tissue or other tissues containing stem cells in specialized bio-banks. The stored stem cells can be retrieved and utilized for treating diseases even after decades if the donor or a family member requires it. This allows availability of stem cells without waiting for a suitable donor match.

The processed unit is tested for viability, quantity, sterility before being cryogenically frozen and stored in specialized tanks. The stem cells can be stored for decades at -1960C or in liquid nitrogen.
