Connectivity and Mobility as a Service (MaaS)
Connectivity plays a crucial role in enabling smart mobility solutions through real-time data collection and sharing. Technologies like GPS, wireless networks, IoT sensors and cloud computing allow for the seamless transfer of information between vehicles, infrastructure and users. This connectivity underpins Mobility as a Service (MaaS), which offers users a single interface to plan, book and pay for multiple types of transportation like public transit, ride-hailing, bicycle or car rentals. MaaS platforms utilize real-time data from various modes to provide optimized journey planning and payment options tailored to users' door-to-door transportation needs. Several cities have already launched MaaS pilot projects to evaluate its impact on first and last mile connectivity challenges and modal shift toward public transit.

Electric Vehicles and Charging Infrastructure
Electrification of vehicles is a key driver of Smart Mobility  promising lower emissions and operational costs compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. While EV sales are seeing strong growth rates globally, building out charging infrastructure remains an important prerequisite to accelerate adoption rates. Commercial EV fleets for shared mobility services can play an important role in driving demand and early returns on charging infrastructure investments. Standardization of charging connectors and protocols along with innovative business models for public and residential charging will be critical to manage costs as more drivers switch to electric. Governments are incentivizing the electrification of both private and commercial fleets through purchase subsidies, tax credits for setting up charging stations and preference in road access.
