We say the same thing every year, and we'll repeat it again in 2019: If you're looking for a fantasy football RB sleeper, Glenn Hubbard Jersey just draft thesecond, third, and even fourth running back on any team's depth chart. It might seem as if they have no clear path to playing time in the preseason, but injuries will happen, handcuffs will break out, and no-name rookies will be starting for you in the fantasy playoffs. It almost makes you wonder why you spend so much time on rankings, projections, cheat sheets, tiers, and draft strategy leading up to your draft, doesn't it?
This year, we have a whole new batch of rookies (David Montgomery, Miles Sanders, Alexander Mattison), veterans in new places (Mike Davis), and bounce-back candidates (Ronald Jones, Rashaad Penny). You might have been burned in the past by some of these guys, and others will burn you for the first time this year. So, that's something to look forward to.
DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT:
Generally, you can never have enough backup running backs. Obviously, you want guys who are only one injury away from significant playing time, but occasionally you'll have to play the long game. Bye weeks and other injuries likely won't allow you to keep as many lotto tickets as you'd like, but if you have an open roster spot, you should always be looking to stash backup RBs -- especially early in the season when roles are still a work-in-progre s.
2019 STANDARD RANKINGS: | | | | | |
It's easy toget overly excited about some of these players, especially the rookies. Dave Henderson Jersey Just remember: A value sleeper can turn into an overdrafted bust very quickly. As much as you want to hit on the "next big thing", sometimes you need to pump the brakes on the hype train. New sleepers will pop up every week, so even if you don't draft that must-have rookie, you'll get plenty of chances to acquire one on the waiver wire.

2019 Fantasy Football Sleepers: Running Back
Derrius Guice, Redskins
Maybe Guice will never be healthy. He tore his ACL last preseason and is already dealing with a hamstring injury going into camp. The health i sues -- plus the presence of Adrian Peterson -- will drive down Guice's price on draft day, but we know the former second-round pick has the talent to produce if he gets enough touches. Peterson ran for over 1,000 yards last year, so the Redskins can clearly support an upper-tier rusher. Guice might not hit right away, but he'll be a good guy to have on your team once he finally gets opportunities.
FANTASY SLEEPERS: | | | | |
Ronald Jones, Buccaneers
You remember Jones, right? He was the No. 38 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and ahuge fantasy bust who averaged just 1.9 yards per carry on 23 carries for the season . Yeah, that guy. Well, as bad as all that was, you Chris Bassitt Jersey shouldn't completely write him off. He'll be getting a fresh start with new coach Bruce Arians, and we're hearing all the typical offseason buzz -- Jones added muscle, the new coaching staff loves him, etc. It's fair to say it can only get better for Jones, and considering his main competition for playing time remains the uninspiring Peyton Barber, he looms as a value pick and potential breakout candidate, especially in standard leagues.
Miles Sanders, Eagles
Some RB cuts are coming in Philadelphia. There just Liam Hendriks Jersey isn't enough room on the active roster for Jordan Howard, Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Josh Adams, and Sanders. Howard and Sanders are definitely safe, though, and Sanders is the most intriguing for fantasy purposes after he was drafted in the second round out of Penn State. Given the relative inconsistency/low-ceiling of all the backs in Philly, Sanders has a chance of being "the guy" with a good preseason/early-season showing.
DRAFT STRATEGY AND RANKINGS TIERS: ||||
Ito Smith, Falcons
Devonta Freeman (knee, groin) played in just two games last season, and at this point in his career, he's unlikely to carry a full load. Smith got his feet wet last season as a complement to Tevin Coleman, but with Coleman now acro s the country in San Francisco, Smith will enter this season as Freeman's primary handcuff. Even when Freeman is healthy, Smithshould be in line for double-digit touches every week. He'll have to improve on his 3.5 ypc, but he'll certainly get his chances. He can function as a FLEX right away, and he'll obviously have a lot of potential value if Freeman gets hurt again.
Rashaad Penny, Seahawks
Penny was a first-round pick prior to last Blank Jersey season, but he mostly watched as Chris Carson ran away with the starting job. Penny did manage one 100-yard game, but he never topped 12 carries and only scored two TDs. There's no reason to think he'll simply unseat Carson atop the depth chart, but Pete Carroll and the Seahawks consistently frustrate fantasy owners with seemingly out-of-nowhere personnel changes. Penny has talent, and given Carson's injury history, he will likely get a shot at some point this season.
DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT:
David Montgomery, Bears
Montgomery has been talked up quite a bit this offseason, and he's certainly in prime position to have a breakout season. The lazy comparison is to Kareem Hunt, who starred as a third-round rookie in Matt Nagy's offense in Kansas City in 2017, but those are some lofty expectations. We're not quite that high on Montgomery -- mainly becauseTarikCohen's presence will surely limit his touches, particularly receptions -- but there's no doubting his talent (1,373 total yards, 13 TDs at Iowa State last year) and potential opportunity. Montgomery is the type of player who will rise rapidly up big boards with a good preseason, so be careful about going overboard with expectations, but by all means target him in your drafts.
Mike Davis, Bears
With Jordan Howard gone, the Bears need a new between-the-tackles runner. Davis will be competing with Montgomery for the role, and while fantasy owners will always side with the more exciting rookie in these situations, Davis shouldn't be forgotten. He looked good with the Seahawks last year, rushing for 4.6 ypc and catching 34 pa ses. If Montgomery has any trouble picking up the offense or handling pa sing-down duties, Davis could find himself getting 12-plus touches a game Marco Estrada Jersey for what figures to be a solid offense.
Alexander Mattison, Vikings
Dalvin Cook has mi sed more games (17) than he's played (15) in his two-year NFL career, so having his handcuff is a must. That looks like Mattison entering the season, which is a bit surprising given his
