The roots of A Program in Wonders could be traced back to the collaboration between two people, Helen Schucman and William Thetford, both of whom were prominent psychologists and researchers. The course's inception happened in the early 1960s when Schucman, who had been a medical and research psychiatrist at Columbia University's School of Physicians and Surgeons, began to see some inner dictations. She identified these dictations as coming from an inner style that identified itself as Jesus Christ. Schucman originally resisted these experiences, but with Thetford's inspiration, she started transcribing the messages she received.
Around a period of eight decades, Schucman transcribed what would become A Class in Wonders, amounting to three amounts: the Text, the Book for Students, and the Handbook for Teachers. The Text sits out the theoretical foundation of the program, elaborating on the jesus gospel of love methods and principles. The Workbook for Students includes 365 lessons, one for every single time of the year, made to guide the reader via a daily practice of using the course's teachings. The Manual for Teachers gives further guidance on how best to understand and train the concepts of A Course in Wonders to others.
One of many main styles of A Class in Wonders is the idea of forgiveness. The course shows that correct forgiveness is the key to inner peace and awareness to one's heavenly nature. According to its teachings, forgiveness is not simply a ethical or honest training but a fundamental shift in perception. It requires making move of judgments, grievances, and the perception of sin, and as an alternative, seeing the world and oneself through the lens of love and acceptance. A Course in Wonders emphasizes that correct forgiveness leads to the recognition that individuals are interconnected and that separation from one another can be an illusion.
Still another significant facet of A Course in Miracles is their metaphysical foundation. The class gifts a dualistic view of fact, distinguishing between the vanity, which shows divorce, anxiety, and illusions, and the Holy Nature, which symbolizes enjoy, truth, and spiritual guidance. It shows that the ego is the foundation of enduring and conflict, while the Holy Soul provides a pathway to therapeutic and awakening. The goal of the program is to help persons surpass the ego's confined perception and align with the Sacred Spirit's guidance.
