Microsoft announces three new Xbox console variants

Microsoft announced three new variants of its current generation Xbox consoles during its Xbox Games Showcase 2024 event. This includes two new Series X models and a new Series S variant.

The first is the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition. This is simply the existing Series X with 2TB of storage instead of usual 1TB. The console features a speckled pattern with silver, gray, and green spots with a bright green base. The controller also gets green back and a speckled D-pad. This variant will retail for $600 and will be available in limited quantities in select markets.

Next is the Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition. This is a variant of the existing Series X but without the optical drive, which means you can only access games and movies digitally. It comes in white and will be available in select markets for $450.

Finally, www.microsoft.com/link announced a variant of the black 1TB Series S, which was announced almost exactly a year ago. The only difference is that this model comes in white but is otherwise identical to the other version, and will be available for the same $350 price. Microsoft says the black model can be purchased while supplies last, which suggests it has been discontinued.

Microsoft has announced a new variant of its affordable Xbox Series S console. The new model features 1TB of storage compared to the 512GB on the standard model. The new model also has an all-black finish with a matching black controller that should make it visually distinguished from the 512GB model.

The 1TB Series S is priced at $349, $50 more than 512GB model, and will be available starting September 1.

Storage, in general, has been made more affordable for the Xbox Series consoles. Western Digital recently started offering expandable storage drives for these consoles, which start at $80 for the 512GB model and $150 for the 1TB model. Seagate has the same models for $90 and $150, respectively. The 1TB Seagate drive used to cost $220 and was the only option available for quite some time.
