Corduroy is a durable ridged fabric that textile manufacturers can make from a variety of different materials. What is most striking about this fabric is its unique ridge pattern, which corduroy producers can weave in various widths. Polyester corduroy fabric is a more common one.

Most corduroy clothes are washable. However, garments such as jackets made of corduroy often require dry cleaning due to the construction of the garment.

Corduroy shrinks along the length of the fabric, so it's important to wash at the correct temperature. You also need to make sure the pile is not crushed or deformed.

  Here are our washing tips:

Check the garment care label to see if it is safe to wash and at what temperature. Corduroy garments can usually be machine washed because the fabric is very durable.

Button/zip the garment and turn it over before washing.

Don't overfill the washer, as this can crush the fluff on the corduroy clothes. Choose a gentle wash cycle with short spins and, if possible, use a setting that reduces creases.

The dyes in corduroy will fade, so for dark garments, wash in cold water, and if necessary, wash garments alone or with other similarly colored garments. For dark clothes, you can add a few tablespoons of salt to the garment's first wash to help reduce the amount of dye transfer. Light-colored corduroy clothing can be washed in warm (not hot) water with similarly colored items (as long as the wash label allows this).

Do not wash corduroy with any fabric that produces fuzz, such as towels, wool, felt, or wool pullovers, as the fuzz will adhere to the corduroy. Lint is the name given to the buildup of textile fibers and other materials visible on clothing.

For best results, smooth out seams, pockets, shirt plackets, etc., then air dry. Be careful when placing clothespins on clothes as they can leave marks on the pile of clothes - it's best to leave clothes on hangers to dry. If the fluff is flattened, it can be restored to its original shape by lightly brushing with a soft clothes brush while the garment is still slightly damp.
