In addition to the 10% reservation in paramilitary forces, 25% of the eligible Agniveers will be retained in the regular military units after a formal evaluation of their credentials according to breaking news in India today.

This means, around two-thirds of the retiring Agniveers will continue to serve in the regular military and paramilitary units combined. The remaining Agniveers will get top preference in recruitment in state police departments as well as in central and state public sector undertakings.

Unfortunately, many of the latest Hindi news and other media outlets totally ignored this part of the scheme and carried misleading stories about it that confused the youth. It remains to be seen whether they did it by design or out of ignorance.
