Gujarat Introduces Low-Cost Housing For Construction Labourers

On Thursday, Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated an affordable housing scheme aimed at providing temporary accommodation to nearly 15,000 construction workers at a nominal rate of Rs five per day. This initiative, known as the 'Shramik Basera' scheme, marks a significant step towards addressing the need for low-cost housing for low-income workers in India.

Ground-Breaking Ceremony and Scheme Launch

The CM performed the ground-breaking ceremony for 17 dwelling structures to house labourers in key cities including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Rajkot. The event took place at one of the project sites in the Jagatpur area of Ahmedabad, while other sites were inaugurated virtually. The initiative is under the guidance of the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Labour Welfare Board.

Portal Launch and Project Details

A dedicated portal for the Shramik Basera scheme was also launched during the event. The CM emphasised that the scheme aims to bring about a qualitative change in the living standards of workers from the unorganised sector by providing affordable housing, food, health, and financial support.
