Irritating dry skin and athlete's foot are relatively easy to treat –– or better still, prevent.

When I was on the junior varsity basketball team in high school, I wasn’t too surprised when I ended up with itchy, flaky athlete’s foot. After all, being an “athlete” seemed like a good reason for such a condition—I figured it was just part of the game and a sign of my hard work.

It wasn’t until my mom set me straight that I realized the issue wasn’t a badge of honor but a result of poor foot hygiene.

Fast forward nearly forty years, and I’m much more attentive to my skincare routine. Despite this, I still occasionally face common skin issues, which many men do. Here’s a look at two frequent problems, how to treat them, and some tips to help you avoid them.

Also another drug Tadalista Professional works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). This inhibition results in the relaxation of blood vessels, allowing more blood to flow into the penis during sexual arousal.

Vardenafil, enhances blood flow to the penis, enabling the achievement and maintenance of an erection during sexual activity. By relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, Vilitra 20 mg ensures that adequate blood flow occurs when sexual stimulation is present.

Dry Skin

Dry skin can show up as scaly patches (sometimes red), itching, and general dryness. It can affect you any time of the year, from the intense heat of summer to the biting cold of winter. Sun exposure can damage skin, making it thinner and less able to retain moisture over time. Plus, as we age, our skin produces fewer natural oils that keep it lubricated.

Treatment

For dry skin, your first step should be a moisturizer that helps soften and smooth your skin with water and lipids (fats). Some moisturizers attract water to your skin and lock it in, while others create a barrier to prevent moisture loss.

  • Petroleum Jelly: This thick, greasy substance helps keep moisture in without clogging pores. It’s effective on its own or as an ingredient in other moisturizers. Since it doesn’t contain water, it’s best used right after bathing while your skin is still damp.

  • Mineral Oil: Similar to petroleum jelly but less greasy, mineral oil should also be applied to damp skin.

  • Moisturizing Lotions and Creams: These have both water and oils, making them less greasy and more visually appealing than petroleum jelly or oils. Look for ingredients like glycerin, urea, or alpha hydroxy acids.

Prevention

To help prevent dry skin:

  • Use a humidifier or place a pan of water on your radiator to add moisture to the air.

  • Stick to lukewarm water when showering or bathing, as hot water can strip your skin of natural oils.

  • Choose gentle soaps that are free from abrasives or irritants. Super-fatted soaps or cleansing bars are less drying.

  • Apply moisturizer or petroleum jelly immediately after bathing to lock in moisture.

Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s foot is caused by fungi known as dermatophytes. It usually presents as intense itching, cracked or peeling skin (especially between the toes), and redness or scaling on the soles.

These fungi thrive in warm, damp environments like pools, showers, and locker rooms. They also love the moist conditions of sweaty socks and shoes.

Treatment

If you have athlete’s foot, try an over-the-counter antifungal ointment, cream, or powder like clotrimazole (Lotrimin AF), terbinafine (Lamisil AT), or miconazole (Micatin). It can take several weeks to see improvement, and the infection may come back. If it doesn’t get better after a few weeks, see a doctor who might prescribe antifungal pills.

Prevention

To keep athlete’s foot at bay:

  • Wash your feet thoroughly every day and put on clean socks afterward.

  • Make sure to dry your feet completely, including between the toes, after bathing, showering, or swimming.

  • Wear flip-flops or sandals in public pools and locker rooms.

  • Choose moisture-wicking socks that absorb sweat.

  • Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row; let them air out and dry for at least 24 hours between wears.
