What is Neurofeedback?
An Introduction to the Concept
Neurosys, also known as EEG biofeedback, is a non-invasive process that allows participants to visualize and then voluntarily modify their own brainwaves in real time. During a neurosys session,EEG sensors are placed on the scalp to monitor electrical activity in the brain. The sensors transmit information about the brain’s activity to a computer that translates the activity into visual or auditory feedback - usually in the form of video games. Participants learn to adjust their brainwave frequency or amplitude to achieve a specific brain state. Over multiple sessions lasting 20-30 minutes, the goal is to encourage the brain to operate at its optimal functional state.

The Science Behind the Process
The brain communicates through electrical signals known as Neurofeedback There are five main types of brainwaves - delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma. Each brainwave corresponds to different cognitive processes and states of consciousness. Neurosys aims to help the brain move towards a healthy balance of brainwaves associated with optimal functioning.
For example, people with attention deficit disorder (ADD) tend to have an overabundance of faster beta waves and not enough calming alpha waves. Neurosys trains the brain to increase production of calming alpha waves and decrease hyperactive beta waves. Through the visual or auditory feedback, participants learn to tune into and voluntarily modify their own brainwave patterns over multiple sessions.
