How to Take Care of Your Jade Jewelry?
In China, there is an old saying: “It takes three years for a person to nurture jade, but jade sustains a person for a lifetime.” The emotional benefits of jade can bring joy to its wearer, help them stay away from negativity, and promote good health. When wearing jade jewelry, how should we maintain and clean it?
1. Daily Cleaning
Soak the jade in purified water for 30 minutes, then gently brush the surface with a soft-bristle brush. Afterward, use a clean soft cloth to wipe it dry. This completes the daily cleaning, and it is recommended to clean it every three months.
Note: Tap water has been treated and may contain residual chlorine, which can affect jade over time. Therefore, it’s best to use purified water for cleaning.
2. Daily Maintenance
When not wearing jade, first clean it and then apply a small amount of baby oil. Place the jade in a resealable bag and store it in a cool, dry place.
While wearing jade close to the skin, you don’t need to take it off while showering, but make sure to dry it promptly afterward.
Note: Jade is sensitive to high temperatures, so remove it when taking a sauna or hot spring bath.
3. Cleaning Frequency
For frequently worn jade, clean it every three months. In summer, you may increase the cleaning frequency. For jade that is worn infrequently, once a year is sufficient.
4. Long-Term Wear
The best way to care for jade is to wear it regularly. The natural oils and sweat from our skin can nourish jade, making it appear more transparent and lustrous over time.
Daily Wearing Precautions for Jade Jewelry:
Wear Separately, Avoid Stacking: It’s best to wear jade jewelry alone and avoid stacking it with other pieces. This prevents scratches on the surface of the jade.
Avoid Contact with Acids, Alkalis, and Organic Solvents: These substances can cause corrosion, damaging the surface of the jade jewelry.
Avoid Dropping or Hitting Hard Objects: Prevent the jade from falling from a height or colliding with hard surfaces, as this can easily cause cracks or damage to the jade.
Avoid Exposure to High Temperatures, Flames, and Direct Sunlight: Keep jade away from high heat, open flames, and prolonged exposure to sunlight, as these conditions can damage the stone.
