At this time, the ignition system provides instantaneous high-voltage electricity, and sparks at the spark gap of the spark plug, so that the trace mixture of gas accumulates heat and raises the temperature.

When it develops to a significant increase in-cylinder pressure, a bright flame core is formed; then it spreads and burns out the mixture in the cylinder, and the cylinder pressure rises rapidly. The heat of the mixed gas mainly improves the compression ratio of the gasoline engine, and the thermal efficiency is improved. The compression ratio has been increased to 10 from the early 4.5. When the compression ratio reaches 9 or more, coke will be generated in the cylinder, which will ignite the mixture and form abnormal combustion. In addition to the design of the combustion chamber structure, the main factor to increase the compression ratio is the improvement of gasoline quality. In the 1920s, it was discovered that adding tetraethyl lead to gasoline can increase the compression ratio of gasoline engines. The combustion chamber requires a high or low gasoline octane number.
