Sejong Stadium, where the Summer World University Games will be held, fails to bid despite increased budget re-announcement
The construction project for the Sejong Integrated Sports Facility, where the table tennis and water polo matches of the 2027 Chungcheong World University Games will be held, has failed to be bid despite an increase in the project cost.
According to Sejong City on the 2nd, not a single construction company participated in the 3rd bid for the Sejong Integrated Sports Facility construction project, which was closed by the Administrative City Construction Agency on the 30th of last month.
This was the third announcement made after the project cost was increased from 4.03 million won per square meter to 4.56 million won due to two failed bids in July and August.
Sejong City is clearly showing signs of confusion as the project fails to be bid despite an increase in project costs.
City officials said, "We expected construction companies to participate when we decided to increase the project cost in consultation with nearby local governments and the Public Procurement Service," but added, "Surprised, not a single company participated."
The construction project for a comprehensive sports facility in Daepyeong-dong, Sejong City is a project to build a 4,000-seat gymnasium and a 3,000-seat indoor swimming pool on a site of 74,320 m2.
The Summer World University Games table tennis and water polo events are scheduled to be held here.
Sejong City's position is that it will re-announce the announcement after consulting with the Ministry of Happiness.
If there is a company that bids in the fourth round of bidding, it is fortunate, but if the bidding fails again, a long-term delay in the schedule becomes a foregone conclusion.
In a worst-case scenario, completion may not be possible before August 2027, when the Games are held.
The Summer World University Games will be held from August 1 to 12, 2027 in four cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region, including Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam, with approximately 15,000 participants from 150 countries. There are 18 sports.
