Polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG). THF polymerizes under strongly acidic conditions to form PTMEG, which is widely used in the manufacture of polyurethane elastomers and fibers. PTMEG provides excellent flexibility and elasticity for such products. In particular, PTMEG-based polyurethanes are known for their good low-temperature flex properties and hydrolysis resistance.

Vinyl film and cellophane. THF is an excellent solvent for many chlorinated resins used in film-forming applications such as vinyl topcoats, cast vinyl films, and coated cellophane. Such applications rely on THF's ability to solvate polymer resins without unduly increasing viscosity. Furthermore, the high volatility of THF is essential in these applications, as the solvent needs to be completely removed with minimal energy input.
