Leather manufacturing is still an important part of the manufacturing sector, both in terms of making leather and using leather in products. Today we will take an in-depth look at the industry of real leather and faux leather and the tools you can use to reduce the amount of waste you produce. Since the caveman days, innovation has been a means of survival. When they had limited resources and high stakes, the practice of lean inventory was critical—long before anyone knew what it was. This is how leather manufacturing began.
A raw material so strong and dependable that it is still a popular choice in the manufacturing industry today. So today we will see how to actually manufacture leather and the software you can use to help manage the material. If you want to experience high-quality leather, RP Comtrade is the place to go. With RP Comtrade, luxury is now just a few steps away.
What is Leather Manufacturing?
Leather is the process of turning raw material into leather through three processes: preparatory stages, tanning, and crusting. However, the operations that the hide goes through (which can range from 35 to 55 different operations) are all dependent on the type of leather that a manufacturer is producing. Leather is traded internationally in a variety of conditions, including fresh, wet salted, pickled, sun-dried, crust, wet blue, and finished. The history of leather manufacturing is extensive. According to experts, the oldest tanneries in Egypt date back more than 5,000 years. Since then, there are about 9,000 tanneries around the world. Each tannery makes about 2 million square feet of leather every year, for a total of 19,000 million square feet.
The Leather Manufacturing Process
The leather manufacturing process is long and complex. Because of limited time and supply, manufacturers use a process which is “batch manufacturing” to finish orders.
In order to make leather, one would have to follow
Preservation
Drying, salting, or freezing the raw material are all ways to keep it safe until it gets to the tannery.
Beamhouse operations
The manufacturer now begins preparing the hides for tanning. The raw material goes through soaking, liming, fleshing, splitting, and pickling at this stage. The tanning stage of the leather-making process can begin once the hide is ready.
