Flag Lock on Rangefinders: What It Is and How It Works?
Flag Lock on a rangefinder is a feature designed to help golfers accurately measure the distance to the flagstick, even when there are other objects in the background. It works by detecting the nearest target (the flag) and locking onto it, providing a precise distance measurement.
How Flag Lock Works:
- Target Prioritization – The rangefinder scans the area and identifies the closest object, which is typically the flagstick.
- Vibration Feedback (Optional) – Many rangefinders provide a slight vibration or visual confirmation when the flag is locked, ensuring accuracy.
- Eliminates Background Interference – It prevents the device from mistakenly measuring trees or other objects behind the green.
This feature is particularly useful in windy conditions or when the flagstick is small and difficult to focus on. Some models also incorporate Slope Mode, which adjusts for elevation changes to give a more accurate reading.
