In monostable mode the 555 timer output is a high pulse that begins when the trigger pin goes low (less than 1/3 of the supply voltage, as explained in the previous step). The duration of the output pulse is determined by the values of the resistor (RA) and capacitor (C) in the circuit shown in fig 1.
When the output is high, current flows through the diode bypassing RB and draining the charge off of the capacitor. When the trigger pin is flipped low, this current stops flowing and the capacitor starts to discharge through RB and into the discharge pin of the 555 timer (pin 7).
The ability of the 555 to both sink (sink) and source (source) current allows for an indicator LED connected between the output pin and ground (0v). This will be switched “ON” or “OFF” depending on the state of the 555’s output. Try experimenting with the value of RA and C to see how it affects the duration of the output pulse.
Design
We love the clean, sleek design of ZOOM555, with its large LCD screen and soft-touch buttons. It’s easy to operate, even if you have never used a video conferencing app before.
We were impressed by the sound quality of ZOOM555, but it would have been even better if there had been room for an external subwoofer. During the "Quantum of Solace" car chase scene, machine-gun fire, screeching tires, and metal-grinding-against-metal collisions all came through loudly with plenty of bass energy. Adding the Zvox Output Leveling feature improved dynamics and bass energy to deliver a more balanced and full-sounding stereo experience.
All customers should be aware of new security enhancements that have been added to the Zoom 5.0 release. Meeting passwords are now more complex and on by default for all Basic, Single-license Pro, and K-12 accounts. Zoom has also enhanced the UI of Waiting Rooms to help prevent accidental meetings and to keep participants out of unintentional content sharing windows.
Power
The G5N packs a powerful array of effects and amps and offers a good range of patch configurations, including up to nine simultaneous effects. All the effects have several parameters and can be tweaked to produce more realistic results – although it’s not a replacement for a dedicated tube amp and pedals. In addition to the 123 stompbox effects, there are 22 amp models (including classics like the 59 Fender Bassman, Diezel Herbert Channel 2, Marshall JCM800 and Mesa Boogie Mk3) and Zoom’s new Sigmoid Curve clipper which adds subtle but satisfying distortion.
The 99 stock sound patches (all overwritable) are nicely eclectic, with practical generic sounds, familiar song and superstar signature tones, barmy effects and more obscure setups from the likes of Carr, Engl, Krank and Two Rock. There’s even a couple of banks programmed by Zoom-approved players, including Richie Kotzen and Allan Holdsworth.
Blasting through the car chase scene in Quantum of Solace on Blu-ray, the ZOOM555 was able to handle machine gun fire, screeching tires and metal grinding against metal surprisingly well, without the need to turn down the volume. However, the dynamics weren’t quite there and the bass energy needed a bit more kick.
Controls
SIDIUS ZOOM 555 is a moving head with 37 RGBW 15W LEDs, that allows to obtain a rich spectrum of colours by mixing R, G, B, W. Its high quality engines offer smooth movements in 8 and 16 bits with wide scrolling. It includes 3 DMX modes (12, 20 and 32 channels), dimming of the primary colors (with mixing function) and zoom and strobe functions. Its complete LED matrix can be divided into 4 different zones and control a specific colour in each one.
