Lockdown paintings by boy, 5, to feature in Royal Academy show

A five-year-old boy has earned a place in slot xo the Royal Academy Young Artists' Summer Show with paintings he made as part of a home-schooling project in lockdown.

Paintings of a pig and a meerkat by Vincent, from Hull, were part of a series featuring one animal for every letter of the alphabet.

They were selected from 33,000 submissions from artists aged between 5 and 19 to go on show online and at the RA gallery in central London.

"I looked at pictures of animals on Mummy's phone and I chose the one that I liked the best," Vincent says.

And his advice for other budding artists? "The one thing every artist needs isn't paper and pens, but confidence."
