Carotid stenting is a medical procedure used to open a narrowed carotid artery in the heart by inserting a small, expandable or non-expandable tube, called a stent, in the artery. The purpose of this procedure is to prevent stroke in the long term. It is an optional procedure used when a patient has more than 60% to 70% narrowing and has a low risk of serious problems from stenting.
