When Nothing Calms the Storm: How I Help People with Anxiety That Won’t Let Go
by Paige Bartholomew, LMFT, Licensed Psychotherapist
I’ve worked with anxiety in its rawest forms for over 25 years. Not the kind that responds to deep breaths and mantras, but the kind that lingers even after you’ve done everything right.
By the time someone finds me, they’ve usually tried it all: therapy, meds, mindfulness, TikTok reels.
They’ve read the books. They’ve journaled the pain. And yet, their nervous system still braces for impact.
I recognize that bracing. It’s the imprint of a body that learned how to survive.
What you need isn’t more coping strategies, it’s recalibration. I use Internal Family Systems therapy, depth hypnotherapy, and trauma-informed somatic nervous system work to trace anxiety back to its origin, then help it unhook, gently, from the inside out. This isn’t symptom patching, t’s soul listening.
If you’ve always felt too sensitive, too intense, too much. Maybe that’s not the problem at all. Maybe you haven’t ever been met at the level your system requires.
That’s what you and I will do together. And if this is where you are, I want you to know: you're not alone.
