Joey and I visited the University of Alberta together. We were within the same undergraduate physics lab but didn't fully realize each other. I always thought he seemed so nerdy while he would leave the lab before I was even halfway with the task. We truly met one another on a Halloween pub crawl annually later. We exchanged numbers that night and wound up going on the date following the said pub crawl. We lost contact for a long time as I have gone to live in Ontario to pursue another degree. But funny how fate drew us together again years later… and that we started dating!

After 6 years together, Joey proposed in my experience in Edmonton before we left for any trip to Asia (before he'd even met my relatives!). He decorated a gazebo and hung up lights. It was cold and snowy in Edmonton on that day and I remember I saw a fiddler playing and thought I was intruding around the fiddler's performance. I assumed the fiddler was recording something for Youtube or Tiktok! But Joey wound up getting down on a single knee that night and I'm confident I muttered "finally!" under my breath at some point.

I didn't be prepared to throw a marriage until 2021 however with COVID-19, everyone appeared to postpone their wedding, so Joey and I chose to elope making it official! We planned my way through less than four months.

As for my wedding gown, I visited 6-7 different bridal stores. I probably tried on a lot more than 40 lace wedding dresses but didn't quite discover the one. I knew exactly which style I was searching for when I saw this dress online, it had been FeelTimes dress and I knew it had been what I was searching for. I took the plunge and ordered the gown online from Butterfly Bridal Boutique within the UK without even giving it a goon. I had faith I picked "the gown" because I had tried on similar dresses but none of these were quite perfect. This dress caught my attention because it had been the perfect mixture of classic, romance by using a touch of glamour. I wanted my dress to reflect who I was, which dress suited my personality perfectly. To accessorize I purchased earrings from Swarovski and pumps from Valentino. I had an ordinary cathedral veil too.

The ceremony was at Chateau Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. When I would be a little girl, Lake Louise was the most amazing place I set my eyes on. I remember I was in awe once the sun hit the river, water would sparkle like diamonds. It was always the area I imagined myself just to walk down the aisle.

We also desired to have some adventure mixed into our day, therefore we went on the helicopter ride through the Rockies to obtain some epic wedding photos.

Planning a marriage is stressful but during COVID, it had been even more stressful because things kept changing day-to-day. I knew I wanted your day to be about us and also to celebrate our love. We ultimately chose to only have an immediate family once we saw our marriage like a union of two families and didn't want the remainder of our families and friends to need to travel from afar.

My top tip for brides-to-be would be to celebrate without judgment!! The day flies by fast! Cherish each moment. Don't allow the small things to weigh you down and merely enjoy your day with the people you like most. At the end of your day, nothing matters however the love you have for one another.

The best benefit of the wedding was spending your day together, although I was freezing the entire time when I was taking photos. I also loved our pilot, Ralph who took us around within the Heli. He made sure I kept warm between photos as well as offered me his mitts!
