Copper Fasteners and Silicon Bronze Fasteners
Copper fasteners are not the most widely used so far compared to steel and aluminium, but they are actually becoming a favorite of engineers, contractors and builders. Copper fasteners can be an excellent choice if you want a product with long-life features, like corrosion resistance, conductivity and strength. Copper Fasteners perform the role of joining or holding two or more objects together for a short or long term. They mainly consist of copper alloys such as copper-nickel, copper phosphorus, and copper silicon, and are available in a wide range of types including nuts, bolts, washers, screws and rivets. Besides different sizes, shapes, and finishes, the variations of these types are endless as copper fasteners can be customized to specifications. The three copper grades from which copper fasteners are manufactured are C110 copper or electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) copper, and C145 Tellurium copper. Both materials contain 99.9% pure elemental copper and differ mainly in their mechanical properties, hardness and elasticity. C110 is softer and not heat-treatable, while C145 has superior strength characteristics to other copper alloys. Both materials are often used for applications operating under extreme environmental conditions, such as atmospheric corrosion and wear resistance, due to their high electrical conductivity and excellent flexibility.
One of the prime benefits of Silicon Bronze Fasteners is that they do not get corroded in the presence of brine, sulphite solutions and gases. This resistance to corrosion caused by the mentioned substances is so remarkable that silicon bronze fasteners are often used in naval constructions. Besides corrosion resistance, silicon bronze fasteners also possess high conductivity levels, thus making them ideal for electrical applications. This is due to the fact that such alloys are high in copper content, which being a good conductor, enables excellent conductivity, thus the popularity of the choice of the alloy for use in electrical components and connectors. Machinability is yet another prime characteristic of silicon bronze fasteners; not only do they possess this quality but they can also be welded, brazed and soldered, which gives them great versatility and flexibility. If you are in search of tough and reliable screws, bolts and nuts that are many times more durable than ordinary carbon steel hardware and at locations such as India, USA, UK, Europe etc., you should think of Vision Alloys which is a market-leading company in this area.
