Difference Between “Waterless” and “Wet” Pet Shampoos
Difference Between “Waterless” and “Wet” Pet Shampoos
Waterless pet shampoos have become popular in recent years. The idea is simple: you spray or foam the product onto the coat, massage it in, and dry it off. No bath. No hose. No wet dog shaking water all over your bathroom.
But not all waterless shampoos are created equal. In fact, many are just diluted versions of regular shampoos with a spray nozzle. They don’t work well because they are not designed for waterless application.
What makes a waterless shampoo different?
First, the surfactant system. Regular shampoos use surfactants that need water to rinse away. If you leave them on the coat, they leave a residue. Waterless shampoos need surfactants that evaporate or become inert when dry.
Second, the drying agent. A good waterless shampoo contains a fast-drying carrier – usually alcohol-free – that helps the product evaporate within 30–60 seconds. If it takes longer than that, you’re not saving time.
Third, the viscosity. Waterless products need to be thin enough to spray or foam, but thick enough to stay on the coat. That’s a balance that many manufacturers get wrong.
A real example from the market:
A salon owner once told us that she tried three different waterless shampoos. All three left a greasy residue. Two of them took 4 minutes to dry. One had a fragrance so strong that dogs sneezed for an hour after use.
She switched to a CLEAN WORLD waterless foam concentrate. The drying time was 45 seconds. No residue. No sneezing. And because it was a concentrate, she diluted it herself – saving 60% on shipping costs.
What to ask your supplier:
If you are sourcing a waterless product, ask: “How fast does it dry? Does it leave residue? Can I get it in concentrate form?” If the answer is “slow” or “yes it leaves residue” or “no concentrate available,” you are buying the wrong product.
At CLEAN WORLD, we formulate waterless products specifically for professional use – fast drying, no residue, concentrate options available. Visit cleanworldbrush.com to see our formulas.
