Uterine fibroids are common, noncancerous growths that develop within or on the uterus. Although many women have fibroids without symptoms, others experience heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, abdominal pressure, bloating, constipation, frequent urination, lower back pain, and discomfort during everyday activities. The size, number, and location of fibroids often determine the severity of symptoms.
