The system also responds to external conditions; in hot weather, the shutters will open more readily to ensure adequate cooling, particularly when the air conditioning is in use.

However, hydraulic systems are gaining traction due to their robust performance in demanding applications, offering superior responsiveness and reliability. The closure mechanism itself is predominantly active, meaning it is powered and controlled electronically, but passive systems are emerging as a cost-effective and maintenance-free alternative. Active grille shutter operation is a hallmark of modern vehicle design, effectively balancing thermal management, aerodynamics, and fuel efficiency to meet the demands of both drivers and environmental regulations.
