When you decide to renew your bed lining, it can be difficult to choose the different elements of your set. Let's take the example of the pillowcase of your custom body pillowsHow to choose your style? its dimensions? And its material?

If you ask yourself all these questions, you should find the answers you are looking for in the few lines that follow...

The pillowcase, an essential element of bed components

For years, you slept on pillows that were not right for you. Too hard, too soft, too thick, too thin... Your neck has suffered a lot. Then one fine day, you got tired of sleeping badly during the night and waking up in pain. You opted for the right dakimakura pillow and since then you have discovered the pleasure of resting your head night after night on a comfortable pillow.

As the pillow is essential for sleeping well, also you should not neglect the purchase of your pillowcase. Indeed, to stay clean and healthy longer, the pillow should not be in direct contact with your head. Even if you do not realize it, you sweat, drool, and shed dead skin during the night… And all of this settles on the pillowcase. It is therefore a real protective barrier for the pillow.

The pillowcase does not only guarantee the hygiene of the bedding. Indeed, it allows bringing style to the bedroom. It is up to you to choose the pillowcase whose style best matches the fitted sheet, flat sheet, and duvet cover

What are the best dimensions for my pillowcase?

When buying a bedding set, pay close attention to the dimensions of the pillowcases that are included. It would be a shame to buy pillowcases designed for square pillows when you sleep on rectangular pillows.

Our advice? Take the measurements of your pillow before you go looking for your pillowcase. This way you cannot go wrong.

Let us take an example:

You have just bought a pillow to take care of your cervical spine during the night.

  • All you have to do is buy a pillowcase or two to protect it well.
  • Take the measurements of your pillow
  • You will therefore need to find a rectangular pillowcase large enough for the pillow to fit.
  • We advise you to choose a standard rectangular pillowcase 50*70

On the other hand, if you opt for a 60*60 square pillow, you will have to go for a standard 63*63 square pillowcase instead.

What material is best for my pillowcase?

Now that the problem of the size of the pillowcase is resolved, you still have to choose its material. Here are our tips to see more clearly:

  • Ideally, the different elements that make up the bed set should all be made of the same material: it is more comfortable and aesthetic. So, if you opt for a silk duvet cover and fitted sheet, do the same for the pillowcase.
  • Some materials are more expensive than others are if your budget is tight; choose a cotton percalepillowcase rather than cashmere.
  • You can also make your choice according to your needs at night. For example, if you suffer from night sweats, cotton, linen or silk are very good choices because these materials are breathable and absorb moisture.

And how to properly maintain it?

The maintenance of the pillowcase can be very different depending on whether you choose silk, flannel, polycotton, or even hemp. Indeed, these materials do not support the same degree of heat. Some are more delicate than others are. This is particularly the case with silk compared to cotton.

However, here are some maintenance tips for your pillowcase:

  • Wash your pillowcase regularly to remove traces of perspiration, dead skin, and bacteria... Once every 15 days at least. Also, remember to clean your pillow occasionally, for example, every 2 months.

  • Before putting the cover back on the pillow, make sure it is completely dry. To remove all traces of moisture, you can dry the pillowcase outdoors or in the dryer.

  • Every day, remember to air your pillow and its pillowcase. Even 5 minutes is enough in the middle of winter. You can also shake the pillowcase well to remove any hair that has settled overnight.
