First announced at RuneFest 2019, centers about excavating five dig website locations for OSRS gold materials, artifacts, and relics. The first 20 degrees of Archaeology are offered for free-to-play users, including the launching dig site, Kharid-Et, which can be unlocked at par five Archaeology. The level cap for associates is set at 120, but RuneScape has incentivized associates to research fresh content and reach level 99 Archaeology.

Developers announced that on logging in at March 30th Trimmed Completionist, Completionist, and Gatherer's capes will see them removed from their inventories. However, members who reach level 99 within six months of their RuneScape ability's launching or level 120 following the six-month interval will receive the Max Cape, in addition to see the return of the Completionist and Trimmed Completionist capes.

These six months are regarded as a grace period to even the odds for players rushing to max out the RuneScape ability, wherein items like experience lamps, bonus experience, along with other experience-boosting items will be disabled to Archaeology.

While amassing Archaeology materials will require up much of a player's time, relics and repairing artifacts are expected to make up the bulk of Archaeology rewards. Relics will be particularly useful to Cheap Rs gold players grinding out the Archaeology RuneScape skill, as acquiring and dissembling Relics will reward players using apparatus such as the Historical Gizmo and XP Capacitor that enhance the players' capacity to earn experience in other RuneScape skills.
