What Is StabiliTrak? StabiliTrak is a sophisticated electronic stability control system developed by General Motors that improves vehicle safety and handling. By monitoring critical elements such as steering input, wheel speed, and lateral acceleration, it assists drivers in maintaining control in difficult driving conditions such as slippery roads or fast corners. It actively adjusts engine power and brakes individual wheels to avoid skidding and maintain stability. StabiliTrak uses a network of sensors to monitor driver input and vehicle behaviour. This includes tracking the wheel speed, steering angle, and yaw rate. When discrepancies are recognised, such as a mismatch between steering direction and vehicle movement, StabiliTrak intervenes, either by applying brakes to specific wheels or limiting engine torque to assist the vehicle in restoring equilibrium.
