  • Aims ACHIEVE Control, a prospective pragmatic randomised real-life study in insulin-naïve adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D), demonstrated statistical superiority of insulin glargine 300 U/mL (Gla-300) over first-generation standard-of-care basal insulin analogues (SOC-BI; insulin glargine 100 U/mL or insulin detemir) for the primary composite endpoint of individualised HbA1c target achievement without documented symptomatic (≤3.9 mmol/L [≤70 mg/dL]) or severe hypoglycaemia at 6 months. Odds ratio for HbA1c target achievement was 1.15 (95% CI 0.99-1.34) and favoured Gla-300 versus SOC-BI for absence of documented symptomatic or severe hypoglycaemia at 12 months for both ≤3.9 mmol/L (≤70 mg/dL) (OR 1.21, 95% CI 1.05-1.40) and less then 3.0 mmol/L ( less then 54 mg/dL) (OR 1.26, 95% CI 1.07-1.48). A markedly reduced stroke volume (SV) is a key feature of the dehydration-induced cardiovascular strain, but whether the lower output of the heart is mediated by peripheral or cardiac factors remains unknown. Therefore, we repeatedly quantified left ventricular (LV) volumes, LV mechanics (LV twist, a marker of systolic muscle function, and LV untwisting rate, an independent marker of LV muscle relaxation), left intra-ventricular pressure gradients, blood volume and peripheral blood flow during 2 hr of cycling in the heat with and without dehydration (DEH 4.0 ± 0.2% body mass loss and EUH euhydration control, respectively) in eight participants (three females and five males). While brachial and carotid blood flow, blood volume, SV, LV end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), cardiac filling time, systemic vascular conductance and Q Ë™ were reduced in DEH compared to EUH after 2 hr, LV twist and untwisting rate tended to be higher (p = .09 and .06, respectively) and intra-ventricular pressure gradients were not different between the two conditions (p = .22). Construct validity was also acceptable with a moderate correlation between Nepali FIQR and VAS and SF-36. Test-retest reliability of the total Nepali FIQR and of each item were acceptable with intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of >0.7 in all items except for question 1 of function domain (ICC 0.65). Then α-syn from human blood plasma samples was detected by using immunoprecipitation-mass spectrometry (IP-MS). Lastly the levels of endogenous α-syn and α-syn dopaminylation in 88 blood plasma samples from patients with PD, major depressive disorder (MDD) and healthy control (HC) were compared. Results DA modifies α-syn with the addition of dopamine-quinone (DAQ) into lysine sites of α-syn in vitro and the addition of DAQ and DOPAL (3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetaldehyde) in plasma samples. The unmodified α-syn between the PD and HC groups showed similar levels. The levels of two peptides, one with lysine 34 (34 K) DAQ modification and the other with lysine 23 (23 K) ubiquitination, were significantly higher in PD and MDD compared with HC. Conclusions and clinical relevance Thus, α-syn dopaminylation is measurable and might be used to indicatethe presence and progression of neurological disorders. Pain can lead to decreased oral intake, bleeding, longer hospital stays, emergency department visits, dehydration, and weight loss. Due to persistent pain despite scheduled medications, other methods for pain control are needed. Local/regional anesthetic options have been previously studied in this population. Unfortunately, neither the injection of local anesthetics into the tonsillar fossa nor the postoperative topical application of local anesthetics to the tonsillar bed has demonstrated efficacy in large systematic reviews. PATIENTS Here we report on the post-tonsillectomy pain experience of three patients who were treated with perioperative nerve blocks placed in the pterygopalatine fossa. This represents an as-yet unexplored option for post-tonsillectomy pain control. INTERVENTION After induction of general anesthesia, before surgical incision, a 25-gauge spinal needle was advanced into the pterygopalatine fossa using a suprazygomatic, ultrasound-guided approach. Ropivacaine and dexamethasone were deposited into the pterygopalatine fossa. RESULTS All three patients experienced excellent pain control for the duration of their recovery and required ≤10 mg of oxycodone over the two weeks after surgery. CONCLUSIONS Our case series of three patients provides proof of concept that use of nerve blocks in the pterygopalatine fossa can be useful for the control of post-tonsillectomy pain. DESIGN The current study is a secondary analysis of clinical data from the Collaborative Health Outcomes Information Registry (CHOIR). SETTING Data were drawn from a cohort of patients of a multidisciplinary tertiary care pain clinic. SUBJECTS The study sample consisted of data from 7,026 new patient visits from CHOIR; of these, 1,668 patients with a follow-up time point within 180 days were included in a longitudinal analysis. METHODS Clinical data were analyzed to characterize cross-sectional differences in pain and indicators of psychological and physical function according to self-reported, concurrent cannabis use. Additionally, a propensity score-weighted longitudinal analysis was conducted, examining cannabis use as a predictor of changes in clinical variables across time. RESULTS Cross-sectional analyses suggested significantly poorer sleep and significantly higher intensities of pain, emotional distress, and physical and social dysfunction in patients reporting ongoing cannabis use; however, these differences were relatively small in magnitude. We compared the expression levels of 17 HSPG core proteins in 18 AD cases and 6 controls. RT-PCR was used to analyze transcription levels. Immunohistochemistry was performed to localize HSPGs in the brain tissue. We detected expression of all HSPG genes investigated. SDC1, GPC3, and CD44v3 showed the lowest levels of expression, while SDC3 and GPC1 showed the highest. Remarkably, SDC4 and SRGN were overexpressed in most of the areas analyzed. Immunohistochemistry revealed the presence of both SDC4 and SRGN mostly associated with tau and amyloid-β pathology throughout the AD brains. In conclusion, in view of the involvement of HSPGs in AD pathology, especially SDC4 and SRGN, there would seem to be a relationship between the regulation of core protein expression and the pathological features suggesting HSPGs are potential inducers of the disease. © 2020 American Association of Neuropathologists, Inc. By replacing conventional Phase 3 testing of vaccine candidates, such trials may subtract many months from the licensure process, making efficacious vaccines available more quickly. Obviously, challenging volunteers with this live virus risks inducing severe disease and possibly even death. However, we argue that such studies, by accelerating vaccine evaluation, could reduce the global burden of coronavirus-related mortality and morbidity. Volunteers in such studies could autonomously authorize the risks to themselves, and their net risk could be acceptable if participants comprise healthy young adults, who are at relatively low risk of serious disease following natural infection, they have a high baseline risk of natural infection, and during the trial they receive frequent monitoring and, following any infection, the best available care. © The Author(s) 2020.   • In this work, for the first time, high-resolution neutron imaging (true spatial resolution of 13 μm) is used for irradiated nuclear fuel cladding, applying an adapted procedure for transfer, handling, and measurements of highly radioactive samples in combination with the neutron microscope detector at Paul Scherrer Institut. A sample container referred to as an active box for high-resolution neutron imaging of highly active spent nuclear fuel cladding sections was developed. Sections of unirradiated and irradiated cladding of duplex type, having a liner, with hydrogen average concentrations of 420 wppm and 450 wppm were investigated using this device. The irradiated cladding originated from a fuel rod operated for five cycles in a Swiss pressurized water reactor. The irradiated cladding sample was measured inside the active box. Long circumferential hydride accumulations were revealed together with notable hydride precipitation at the liner-substrate interface. Measurements of the unirradiated cladding in air and inside the active box delivered consistent results, confirming the applicability of the developed device for high-resolution neutron imaging.Many Laue x-ray diffraction systems using the Polaroid XR-7 Land Diffraction Cassette camera became inactive after production of the required high sensitivity Polaroid T-57 instant film ceased. This Tutorial reports on a low-cost solution using the readily available replacement film with push processing to increase the effective film speed. The use of this film in the polaroid camera is described along with film development and digitization. The orientation of single crystals with the obtained data and free software is explained. A simple method to prepare single crystals with surfaces perpendicular to a desired crystallographic orientation is described. The content of this Tutorial may prove beneficial for educational and research laboratories.The success of a microtube hydroforming (μTHF) process heavily depends on the material properties of microtubes, which can reveal the material response under multiaxial stress and influence the formability of hydroformed products. However, these material properties are not well understood because of the limited availability of material testing apparatus that would permit control of axial force and internal pressure simultaneously to mimic realistic μTHF loading. The main purpose of this study is to develop a set of grippers that can transfer required testing loads under fully coupled combinations of axial force and internal pressure. The grippers are designed so that they may be kept at the safe working temperature even when tests are carried out at higher temperatures. The grippers are also designed to fit in a load frame that is integrated in a scanning electron microscope for in situ material testing. The capabilities of the grippers are demonstrated by performing uniaxial and multiaxial material tests on SS304 microtubes with 1 mm outside diameter and 0.15 mm nominal tube wall thickness. The finite element simulations and experimental results show that the designed grippers can firmly hold the specimen and thus enable tensile, compression, torsion, and microtube bulge material tests to be accurately performed.A superconducting gravimeter based on the superconducting quantum interference device system is under development.     In this work, for the first time, high-resolution neutron imaging (true spatial resolution of 13 μm) is used for irradiated nuclear fuel cladding, applying an adapted procedure for transfer, handling, and measurements of highly radioactive samples in combination with the neutron microscope detector at Paul Scherrer Institut. A sample container referred to as an active box for high-resolution neutron imaging of highly active spent nuclear fuel cladding sections was developed. Sections of unirradiated and irradiated cladding of duplex type, having a liner, with hydrogen average concentrations of 420 wppm and 450 wppm were investigated using this device. The irradiated cladding originated from a fuel rod operated for five cycles in a Swiss pressurized water reactor. The irradiated cladding sample was measured inside the active box. Long circumferential hydride accumulations were revealed together with notable hydride precipitation at the liner-substrate interface. Measurements of the unirradiated cladding in air and inside the active box delivered consistent results, confirming the applicability of the developed device for high-resolution neutron imaging.Many Laue x-ray diffraction systems using the Polaroid XR-7 Land Diffraction Cassette camera became inactive after production of the required high sensitivity Polaroid T-57 instant film ceased.   • Cell labeling technologies are required to monitor the fate of transplanted cells in vivo and to select target cells for the observation of certain changes in vitro. Human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) have been transplanted for the treatment of heart injuries or used in vitro for preclinical cardiac safety assessments. Cardiomyocyte (CM) labeling has been used in these processes to facilitate target cell monitoring. However, the functional effect of the labeling agent on hiPSC-CMs has not been studied. Therefore, we investigated the effects of labeling agents on CM cellular functions. 3'-Dioctadecyloxacarbocyanine perchlorate (DiO), quantum dots (QDs), and a DNA plasmid expressing EGFP using Lipo2K were used to label hiPSC-CMs. We conclude that the hiPSC-CM labeling with DiO and QDs does not induce arrhythmogenic effects but rather improves the mRNA expression of cardiac ion channels and Ca2+ influx by L-type Ca2+ channels. Thus, DiO and QD labeling agents may be useful tools to monitor transplanted CMs, and further in vivo influences of the labeling agents should be investigated in the future.Background and Objectives Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) has major effects in premature infants. Although previous literature has indicated that mesenchymal stem cells (****) can alleviate lung pathology in BPD newborns and improve the survival rate, few research have been done investigating significantly differentially expressed genes in the lungs before and after **** therapy. The aim of this study is to identify differentially expressed genes in lung tissues before and after hAD-****treatment. Methods and Results Human amnion-derived **** (hAD-****) were cultured and met the **** criteria for cell phenotype and multidirectional differentiation. Then we confirmed the size of hAD-****-EXOs and their expressed markers. An intratracheal drip of living cells showed the strongest effect on NHLI compared to cellular secretions or exosomes, both in terms of ameliorating pulmonary edema and reducing inflammatory cell infiltration. Through gene chip hybridization, PCR, and western blotting, acylaminoacyl-peptide hydrolase (APEH) expression was found to be significantly decreased under hyperoxia, and significantly increased after hAD-****treatment. Conclusions The intratracheal transplantation of hAD-**** ameliorated NHLI in neonatal rats through APEH.The erratum notes a correction to Fig. 5 for the published article.SIGNIFICANCE Quantitative optoacoustic (OA) imaging has the potential to provide blood oxygen saturation (SO2) estimates due to the proportionality between the measured signal and the blood's absorption coefficient. However, due to the wavelength-dependent attenuation of light in tissue, a spectral correction of the OA signals is required, and a prime challenge is the validation of both the optical characterization of the tissue and the SO2. AIM We propose to assess the reliability of SO2 levels retrieved from spectral fitting by measuring the similarity of OA spectra to the fitted blood absorption spectra. APPROACH We introduce a metric that quantifies the trends of blood spectra by assigning a pair of spectral slopes to each spectrum. The applicability of the metric is illustrated with in vivo measurements on a human forearm. RESULTS We show that physiologically sound SO2 values do not necessarily imply a successful spectral correction and demonstrate how the metric can be used to distinguish SO2 values that are trustworthy from unreliable ones. CONCLUSIONS The metric is independent of the methods used for the OA data acquisition, image reconstruction, and spectral correction, thus it can be readily combined with existing approaches, in order to monitor the accuracy of quantitative OA imaging.Asian leaf-litter toads of the genus Leptobrachella represent a great anuran diversification in Asia. Previous studies have suggested that the diversity of this genus is still underestimated. During herpetological surveys from 2013 to 2018, a series of Leptobrachella specimens were collected from the international border areas in the southern and western parts of Yunnan Province, China. Subsequent analyses based on morphological and molecular data revealed three distinct and previously unknown lineages, which we formally describe as three new species herein. Among them, we describe a new species that occurs at the highest known elevation for Leptobrachella in China. Four species of Leptobrachella, including two new species, are found in the same reserve. Furthermore, our results suggest that the population from Longchuan County, Yunnan, may represent an additional new species of Leptobrachella, although we tentatively assigned it to Leptobrachella cf. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/pfi-2.html yingjiangensis due to the small sample size examined. Lastly, we provide the first description of females of L. yingjiangensis. Our results further highlight that both micro-endemism and sympatric distributions of species are common patterns in Leptobrachella, that contribute to taxonomic and conservation challenges in these frogs. We provide an identification key for Leptobrachella known to occur in Yunnan. We assessed the prevalence, malignancy rate, and size distribution of isolated macrocalcifications and evaluated the histopathologic features and postoperative ATA risk stratification of malignant tumors manifesting as isolated macrocalcifications. RESULTS Isolated macrocalcifications were found in 38 (1.2%) of the 3061 patients. Final diagnosis was established in 30 (78.9%) nodules; seven malignant tumors were diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs). The malignancy rate of the isolated macrocalcifications was 23.

Human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) have been transplanted for the treatment of heart injuries or used in vitro for preclinical cardiac safety assessments. Cardiomyocyte (CM) labeling has been used in these processes to facilitate target cell monitoring. However, the functional effect of the labeling agent on hiPSC-CMs has not been studied. Therefore, we investigated the effects of labeling agents on CM cellular functions. 3'-Dioctadecyloxacarbocyanine perchlorate (DiO), quantum dots (QDs), and a DNA plasmid expressing EGFP using Lipo2K were used to label hiPSC-CMs. We conclude that the hiPSC-CM labeling with DiO and QDs does not induce arrhythmogenic effects but rather improves the mRNA expression of cardiac ion channels and Ca2+ influx by L-type Ca2+ channels. Thus, DiO and QD labeling agents may be useful tools to monitor transplanted CMs, and further in vivo influences of the labeling agents should be investigated in the future.Background and Objectives Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) has major effects in premature infants. Although previous literature has indicated that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can alleviate lung pathology in BPD newborns and improve the survival rate, few research have been done investigating significantly differentially expressed genes in the lungs before and after MSCs therapy. The aim of this study is to identify differentially expressed genes in lung tissues before and after hAD-MSC treatment. Methods and Results Human amnion-derived MSCs (hAD-MSCs) were cultured and met the MSCs criteria for cell phenotype and multidirectional differentiation. Then we confirmed the size of hAD-MSCs-EXOs and their expressed markers. An intratracheal drip of living cells showed the strongest effect on NHLI compared to cellular secretions or exosomes, both in terms of ameliorating pulmonary edema and reducing inflammatory cell infiltration. Through gene chip hybridization, PCR, and western blotting, acylaminoacyl-peptide hydrolase (APEH) expression was found to be significantly decreased under hyperoxia, and significantly increased after hAD-MSC treatment. However, due to the wavelength-dependent attenuation of light in tissue, a spectral correction of the OA signals is required, and a prime challenge is the validation of both the optical characterization of the tissue and the SO2. AIM We propose to assess the reliability of SO2 levels retrieved from spectral fitting by measuring the similarity of OA spectra to the fitted blood absorption spectra. APPROACH We introduce a metric that quantifies the trends of blood spectra by assigning a pair of spectral slopes to each spectrum. The applicability of the metric is illustrated with in vivo measurements on a human forearm. RESULTS We show that physiologically sound SO2 values do not necessarily imply a successful spectral correction and demonstrate how the metric can be used to distinguish SO2 values that are trustworthy from unreliable ones. CONCLUSIONS The metric is independent of the methods used for the OA data acquisition, image reconstruction, and spectral correction, thus it can be readily combined with existing approaches, in order to monitor the accuracy of quantitative OA imaging.Asian leaf-litter toads of the genus Leptobrachella represent a great anuran diversification in Asia. Previous studies have suggested that the diversity of this genus is still underestimated. During herpetological surveys from 2013 to 2018, a series of Leptobrachella specimens were collected from the international border areas in the southern and western parts of Yunnan Province, China. Subsequent analyses based on morphological and molecular data revealed three distinct and previously unknown lineages, which we formally describe as three new species herein. Among them, we describe a new species that occurs at the highest known elevation for Leptobrachella in China. Four species of Leptobrachella, including two new species, are found in the same reserve. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 3852 thyroid nodules (≥ 1 cm) of 3061 consecutive patients who had undergone biopsy between January 2011 and June 2018 were included in this study. We assessed the prevalence, malignancy rate, and size distribution of isolated macrocalcifications and evaluated the histopathologic features and postoperative ATA risk stratification of malignant tumors manifesting as isolated macrocalcifications. RESULTS Isolated macrocalcifications were found in 38 (1.2%) of the 3061 patients. Final diagnosis was established in 30 (78.9%) nodules; seven malignant tumors were diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs). The malignancy rate of the isolated macrocalcifications was 23.

Immunostaining was performed using p16 monoclonal antibody (clone mouse 16P04). Only cases showing a moderate (2+) to high intensity (3+) staining in more than 75% cells were taken as p16 immunopositive. The histological features were correlated with p16 immunopositivity. A total of 18/50 (36%) cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma and 27/50 (54%) cases of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma were p16 immunopositive. On statistical analysis, only nests/lobules with pushing borders were found to have a significant correlation with p16 immunopositivity (P value = 0.0012) for OSCC cases. For OPSCC cases, four histological features namely nests and lobules with pushing borders (P value = 0.0001), focal basaloid appearance (P value = 0.0041), lymphoepithelial morphology (P value = 0.0029), and non-keratinizing/hybrid morphology (P value = 0.0141) had a significant correlation with p16 immunopositivity. Retrospective analysis of patients treated at a tertiary referral center in India from March 2008 to July 2017 was performed. The clinico-pathological variables were analyzed for their association with tumor recurrence and survival with special emphasis on histological subtype. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS). One hundred consecutive patients operated for RPS were analyzed. Of these, 27 were operated for recurrent tumors. Liposarcomas (LPS) and leiomyosarcomas (LMS) constituted 50% (n = 50) and 30% (n = 30) of patients respectively. Complete tumor excision was achieved in 83%, with 43% patients undergoing adjacent organ resection. At a median follow-up of 25.3 months, the median disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were 30 months and 87.8 months respectively. On multivariate analysis, tumor grade was the only factor to significantly affect survival (p = 0.001 for DFS and 0.005 for OS). There was no difference in survival outcomes between infiltrative and adhesive tumors with respect to adjacent organ invasion (p = 0.361 for OS). Tumor grade remains an important prognostic factor affecting disease-free and overall survival in retroperitoneal sarcomas irrespective of tumor size, site, and histology.Although sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has become a standard of care for management of axilla in breast cancer patients, the technique of SLNB is still not well defined. The purpose of this study is to validate the use of methylene blue dye alone for SLNB in early breast cancer patients. 60 patients of early breast cancer were randomized to receive either methylene blue alone (Group A-30 patients) or a combination of both methylene blue and radioactive colloid (Group B-30 patients) for detection of sentinel lymph nodes. Sentinel lymph node biopsy was done followed by complete axillary dissection in all patients. In both Groups A and B, sentinel node was identified in all 30 patients, giving identification rate of 100%. In group A, sentinel node was the only positive node in 1 patient, with a false-positive rate of 14.2%. The negative predictive value was 91.3%. The sensitivity of the procedure in predicting further axillary disease was 75% with a specificity of 95.

Methods This multicenter clinical trial included 103 patients with chronic GTPS randomly assigned to the treatment group, consisting of electromagnetic F-ESWT and a specific exercise protocol, or the control group, receiving sham F-ESWT and the same exercise protocol. Both groups were treated with 3 weekly sessions; the F-ESWT group received an energy flux density of 0.20 mJ/mm, whereas the control group received 0.01 mJ/mm. Patients were assessed at baseline and 1, 2, 3, and 6 months after treatment. A visual analogue scale (VAS) score for pain at 2 months was the primary outcome. The Harris hip score (HHS), Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), EuroQoL-5 Dimensions Questionnaire (EQ-5D), and Roles and Maudsley score were used as secondary outcomes. Complications were recorded. Results The mean VAS score decreased from 6.3 at baseline in both groups to 2.0 in the F-ESWT group versus 4.7 in the control group at 2 months; the 2-month score differed significantly between groups (p less then 0.001). All secondary outcomes at all follow-up intervals were significantly better in the F-ESWT group, except for the LEFS score at 1 month after treatment (p = 0.25). No complications were observed. Conclusions F-ESWT in association with a specific exercise program is safe and effective for GTPS, with a success rate of 86.8% at 2 months after treatment, which was maintained until the end of follow-up. Methods This multicenter clinical trial included 103 patients with chronic GTPS randomly assigned to the treatment group, consisting of electromagnetic F-ESWT and a specific exercise protocol, or the control group, receiving sham F-ESWT and the same exercise protocol. Both groups were treated with 3 weekly sessions; the F-ESWT group received an energy flux density of 0.20 mJ/mm, whereas the control group received 0.01 mJ/mm. Patients were assessed at baseline and 1, 2, 3, and 6 months after treatment. A visual analogue scale (VAS) score for pain at 2 months was the primary outcome. The Harris hip score (HHS), Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), EuroQoL-5 Dimensions Questionnaire (EQ-5D), and Roles and Maudsley score were used as secondary outcomes. Complications were recorded. Results The mean VAS score decreased from 6.3 at baseline in both groups to 2.0 in the F-ESWT group versus 4.7 in the control group at 2 months; the 2-month score differed significantly between groups (p less then 0.001). All secondary outcomes at all follow-up intervals were significantly better in the F-ESWT group, except for the LEFS score at 1 month after treatment (p = 0.25). No complications were observed. Conclusions F-ESWT in association with a specific exercise program is safe and effective for GTPS, with a success rate of 86.8% at 2 months after treatment, which was maintained until the end of follow-up. However, there is no literature regarding differences between CIM and ISm in terms of radiographic outcomes and surgical complications after posterior fusion, to our knowledge. The aim of the present study was to compare radiographic features, clinical outcomes, and surgical complications after posterior spinal fusion between patients with CIM-associated scoliosis and those with ISm-associated scoliosis. Methods One hundred and twenty patients with syringomyelia-associated scoliosis were retrospectively analyzed. Twenty-one patients with scoliosis secondary to CIM were enrolled and matched by sex, age, and the Cobb angle of the scoliotic curve with 21 patients with scoliosis secondary to ISm. All patients underwent 1-stage posterior fusion surgery. Coronal and sagittal radiographic parameters were evaluated before surgery, immediately after suboth CIM- and ISm-associated scoliosis without significant differences in neurological complications. It has been proposed that a MA syndrome could be due to sorafenib-induced pancreatic dysfunction. The dates of analysis were July 25 to December 4, 2019. Exposures Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015), Alternate Mediterranean Diet Score (AMED), Healthful Plant-Based Diet Index (HPDI), and Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI). Main outcomes and measures Cardiovascular disease events, including fatal and nonfatal coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke. Results The final study sample included 74 930 women in the NHS (meociated with lower risk of both CHD and stroke. Design, setting, and participants Prospective observational study (2004-2010), with outcomes determined at hospital discharge. The study included neurocritical care patients from a single level I trauma center, San Francisco General Hospital. Three hundred eighty-three patients had a traumatic brain injury with or without craniectomy; 140 patients had another indication for ICP monitoring. Consecutive patients were studied. Data analyses were completed between March 2015 and December 2019. Exposures Five hundred twenty-three ICP-monitored patients. Main outcomes and measures A computer system prospectively anphysiome occurred at ICPs greater than 19 mm Hg and 24 mm Hg. Elastic net regression identified an ICP threshold of 19 mm Hg as most robustly associated with outcome when considering all neurocritical care patients, patients with TBI, and patients with TBI who underwent craniectomy. Research design and method Using the data from the 2016 Health and Retirement Study, regression analyses were separately performed by gender. Two measures of perceived ageism were considered (1) self-perception of aging and (2) perceived age discrimination. Results Our findings suggested that greater exposure to ageism is generally related to less use of the internet. In addition, we found divergent patterns in the relationship between ageism and internet use by gender. For women, a lower level of internet use was predicted by more negative perceptions of aging, whereas men's internet use was associated with the experience of age discrimination.

  • OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore whether eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 affected cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis via regulating the dimethylation of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha at lysine 55 in acute myeloid leukemia. METHODS The expressions of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 and dimethylation of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha at lysine 55 in acute myeloid leukemia cell lines and human normal bone marrow mononuclear cells (as control) were assessed. Control CRISPR-Cas9 lentivirus, eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 knockout CRISPR-Cas9 lentivirus, vector plasmid, eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 wild type overexpression plasmid, and eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 with a K55R substitution overexpression plasmid were transfected into AML-193 and Kasumi-1 cells combined or alone, and were accordingly divided into 4 groups (Sgcontrol + vector group, SgeEF1A2 + vectoration elongation factor 1 alpha 2 wild type overexpression promoted cell proliferation, enhanced migration, and decreased apoptosis, but eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 with a K55R substitution overexpression did not influence these cellular functions in AML-193 and Kasumi-1 cells, suggesting the implication of dimethylation of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha at lysine 55 in eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 mediated oncogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia. However, some of its inherent properties such as hygroscopicity, lower energy content, low mass density and bio-degradation on storage hinder its extensive application in energy generation processes. Torrefaction, a thermochemical process carried out at 200-300°C in a non-oxidative environment, can address these inherent problems of the biomass. In this work, torrefaction of bagasse was performed in a bench-scale tubular reactor at 250°C and 275°C with residence times of 30, 60 and 90 mins. The effects of torrefaction conditions on the elemental composition, mass yield, energy yield, oxygen/carbon (O/C) and hydrogen/carbon (H/C) ratios, higher heating values and structural composition were investigated and compared with the commercially available 'Thar 6' and 'Tunnel C' coal. The sequential structure of the curriculum in both subjects is constituted by three learning domains (theoretical, practical, and communicess used in decision making at individual levels, where the exercise of clinical prudence acquires particular relevance.Multinucleated giant cells (****) are a prominent histological feature of various mesenchymal neoplasms and are often considered a criterion of malignancy. Mesenchymal neoplasms with **** for which the cell lineage is unclear generally are referred to as giant cell sarcomas. Here we characterize the gross, histologic, and immunohistochemical features of 90 giant cell sarcomas in domestic pet rabbits. Based on the anatomic location and histologic and immunohistochemical findings, 18 cases were classified as histiocytic sarcomas (HS) and 72 cases as anaplastic sarcomas (AS). At postmortem examination, HS was either localized HS (n = 7) always affecting the lungs, or disseminated HS (n = 10) that affected the lungs (n = 10), liver (n = 6), kidneys (n = 4), pleura (n = 2), mediastinum (n = 2), heart (n = 4), skeletal muscle (n = 1), adipose tissue (n = 1), and lymph node (n = 1). Additionally, one cecal biopsy was consistent with HS. Microscopically, HS were characterized by sheets of neoplastic polygonal to round cells that contained single to several, often greatly enlarged nuclei as well as abundant cytoplasm. HS were always positive for CD204 and always negative for SMA and desmin. In contrast, AS arose most commonly from the skin or subcutis (n = 62) and rarely the skeletal muscle (n = 8) or abdominal organs (n = 2). In 29% of extra-abdominal AS, the tumor deeply invaded into surrounding connective tissue, skeletal muscle, tendons, and bone causing pathological fractures. Five of 9 postmortem cases metastasized to various organs often including the lungs. Here we characterize the gross, histologic, and immunohistochemical features of 90 giant cell sarcomas in domestic pet rabbits. Based on the anatomic location and histologic and immunohistochemical findings, 18 cases were classified as histiocytic sarcomas (HS) and 72 cases as anaplastic sarcomas (AS). At postmortem examination, HS was either localized HS (n = 7) always affecting the lungs, or disseminated HS (n = 10) that affected the lungs (n = 10), liver (n = 6), kidneys (n = 4), pleura (n = 2), mediastinum (n = 2), heart (n = 4), skeletal muscle (n = 1), adipose tissue (n = 1), and lymph node (n = 1). Additionally, one cecal biopsy was consistent with HS. Microscopically, HS were characterized by sheets of neoplastic polygonal to round cells that contained single to several, often greatly enlarged nuclei as well as abundant cytoplasm. HS were always positive for CD204 and always negative for SMA and desmin. In contrast, AS arose most commonly from the skin or subcutis (n = 62) and rarely the skeletal muscle (n = 8) or abdominal organs (n = 2). In 29% of extra-abdominal AS, the tumor deeply invaded into surrounding connective tissue, skeletal muscle, tendons, and bone causing pathological fractures. Five of 9 postmortem cases metastasized to various organs often including the lungs. Microscopically, AS were characterized by sheets of spindle or pleomorphic cells admixed with variable numbers of MGCs. Immunohistochemically, AS were always negative for CD204 and often (71%) positive for SMA and/or desmin.

STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS A focus group was conducted with home visit nurses who partner with pregnant mothers and follow them through the first 2 years of their child's life. We asked the nurses to discuss how they offer information and education to their African American clients about safe sleep practices and what could be done to support adoption of the guidelines. A qualitative narrative approach was used for data analysis. RESULTS Seventeen home visit nurses participated in the focus group. We identified two overall themes with eight subthemes. The first theme focused on nurses' perceptions about challenges some mothers have in following the recommendations. The second theme included nurses' perspectives on how to better promote the safe sleep message and educating mothers within their cultural context. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Expectant and new mothers need advice and knowledge about the Safe to Sleep® guidelines that provide ways to decrease risk of infant death. METHODS Thirty-one semistructured interviews were conducted with providers and staff at 9 OTPs between November and December, 2017. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) was used to assess multilevel implementation contexts (eg, patient, provider, organizational) to identify barriers and facilitators that might influence effective intervention implementation. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, coded, and analyzed to identify key themes. Deductive and inductive approaches were used. RESULTS Barriers included transportation, childcare, and time constraints (patient-level), lack of communication between providers (provider-level), lack of political will, competing priorities, and shortages of available resources (organizational-level). Facilitators included a group education approach (patient-level), strong communication (provider-level), and a culture of collaboration (organizational-level). CONCLUSIONS Assessing determinants of implementation is important to the development of RSH interventions. CFIR constructs were found to be important influences that could facilitate or hinder effective implementation. Integration of RSH education and services is a process, and, when addressed in stages, might be feasible. Results show that health care professionals' autonomous motivation improves their quality perceptions and work-related behaviors. Controlled motivation inhibits voicing behavior, but when balanced with autonomous motivation, it stimulates core task and proactive behavior. Proactivity is associated with increased quality of care perceptions. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS To improve quality of care, policy makers and managers need to support health care professionals' autonomous motivation and recognize and facilitate proactivity as an essential part of health care professionals' jobs. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to examine workplace resources as antecedents of nurses' perceptions of their workload and to investigate their relative importance in explaining workload perceptions. We considered workplace resources related to staffing, professional relationships, and technology. METHODOLOGY The study sample comprised nurse-reported and administrative data from U.S. Veterans Health Administration hospitals between 2014 and 2017. Our multilevel analyses are based on data from 20,330 nurses working in 273 work groups at 123 hospitals.
