We find nonlinear heating on microsecond timescales with dynamics beyond hot Brownian motion and superheated water states persisting up to 100 μs at high fluences. At short times up to 20 μs we observe that the dynamics do not obey the Stokes-Einstein predictions.We describe a theory of packing hyperboloid "diabolic" domains in bend-free textures of liquid crystals. The domains sew together continuously, providing a menagerie of bend-free textures akin to the packing of focal conic domains in smectic liquid crystals. We show how distinct domains may be related to each other by Lorentz transformations and that this process may lower the elastic energy of the system. We discuss a number of phases that may be formed as a result, including splay-twist analogues of blue phases. We also discuss how these diabolic domains may be subject to "superluminal boosts," yielding defects analogous to shock waves. We explore the geometry of these textures, demonstrating their relation to Milnor fibrations of the Hopf link. Finally, we show how the theory of these domains is unified in four-dimensional space.The sonic hedgehog subtype of medulloblastoma (SHH MB) is associated with treatment failure and poor outcome. Current strategies utilizing whole brain radiation therapy result in deleterious off-target effects on the normal developing childhood brain. Most conventional chemotherapies remain limited by ineffective blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetrance. These challenges signify an unmet need for drug carriers that can cross the BBB and deliver drugs to targeted sites with high drug-loading efficiency and long-term stability. We herein leverage the enhanced stability and targeting ability of engineered high-density lipoprotein-mimetic nanoparticles (eHNPs) to cross the BBB and deliver a SHH inhibitor effectively to the cancer stem-like cell population in SHH MB. Our microfluidic technology enabled highly reproducible production of multicomponent eHNPs incorporated with apolipoprotein A1, anti-CD15, and a SHH inhibitor (LDE225). We demonstrate the dual-targeted delivery and enhanced therapeutic effect of eHNP-A1-CD15-LDE225 via scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SR-B1) and CD15 on brain SHH MB cells in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo. Moreover, we show that eHNP-A1 not only serves as a stable drug carrier, but also has a therapeutic effect itself through SR-B1-mediated intracellular cholesterol depletion in SHH MB cells. Through the facilitated and targeted cellular uptake of drugs and direct therapeutic role of this engineered biomimetic nanocarrier in SHH MB, our multifunctional nanoparticle provides intriguing therapeutic promise as an effective and potent nanomedicine for the treatment of SHH MB.Ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) is the cornerstone of atmospheric CO2 fixation by the biosphere. The major problem of this reaction is competitive O2 addition, which forms a phosphorylated product (2-phosphoglycolate) that must be recycled by a series of biochemical reactions (photorespiratory metabolism). However, the way the enzyme activates O2 is still unknown. Here, we used isotope effects (with 2H, 25Mg, and 18O) to monitor O2 activation and assess the influence of outer sphere atoms, in two Rubisco forms of contrasted O2/CO2 selectivity. Neither the Rubisco form nor the use of solvent D2O and deuterated RuBP changed the 16O/18O isotope effect of O2 addition, in clear contrast with the 12C/13C isotope effect of CO2 addition. Furthermore, substitution of light magnesium (24Mg) by heavy, nuclear magnetic 25Mg had no effect on O2 addition. Therefore, outer sphere protons have no influence on the reaction and direct radical chemistry (intersystem crossing with triplet O2) does not seem to be involved in O2 activation. Computations indicate that the reduction potential of enolized RuBP (near 0.49 V) is compatible with superoxide (O2•-) production, must be insensitive to deuteration, and yields a predicted 16O/18O isotope effect and energy barrier close to observed values. Overall, O2 undergoes single electron transfer to form short-lived superoxide, which then recombines to form a peroxide intermediate.Landscape-scale reconstructions of ancient environments within the cradle of humanity may reveal insights into the relationship between early hominins and the changing resources around them. Here, we employ fossil lipid biomarkers to study the paleolandscape at Olduvai Gorge at the emergence of the Acheulean technology, 1.7 Ma, through the Lower Augitic Sandstones layer. In the context of the expansion of savanna grasslands, our results represent a resource-rich mosaic ecosystem populated by groundwater-fed rivers, aquatic plants, angiosperm shrublands, and edible plants.

Access to acute stroke unit (ASU) care is known to vary worldwide. We aimed to quantify regional variations in the various components of ASU care.
Secondary analysis of the Head Positioning in acute Stroke Trial (HeadPoST), an international, multicentre, cluster crossover trial of head-up versus head-down positioning in 11,093 acute stroke patients at 114 hospitals in 9 countries. Patients characteristics and 11 standard components of processes of care were described according to ASU admission within and across four economically-defined regional groups (Australia/UK, China [includes Taiwan], India/Sri Lanka, and South America [Brazil/Chile/Colombia]). Variations in process of ASU care estimates were obtained in hierarchical mixed models, with adjustment for study design and potential patient- and hospital-level confounders.
Of 11,086 patients included in analyses, 59.7% (n=6620) had an ASU admission. In China, India/Sri Lanka and South America, ASU patients were older, had greater neurological severity and more premorbid conditions than non-ASU patients. The supplementary motor area (SMA) is involved in several aspects of motor control and its can be associated to a contralateral motor deficit and speech disorders. After the resection of low-grade gliomas, this syndrome is diffusely reported but it is rarely investigated in high-grade gliomas. SMA deficits may resolve completely or with minor sequelae within weeks. Whether this condition of transient deficit affects survival, was not previously investigated, and is not currently understood.
The study aimed to perform an accurate investigation concerning the real clinical and prognostic impact of the postoperative SMA syndrome in order to shed light over its relationship to survival parameters and postoperative functional status of the patients.
We performed a retrospective review of a series of 176 surgically treated patients suffering from Glioblastomas. Tumors classified as Group A Involving the SMA and Group B Lesion located outside and distal to the SMA but in anatomical relationship to primary motor cortices (PM1) or corticospinal tract (CST), in order to investigate differences concerning immunohistochemical and molecular profiles in regard to the survival parameters.
Although lesions involving SMA demonstrated a significantly higher volume in respect to their general counterparts they did not significantly differ in concerns to the molecular patterns, pre and postoperative KPS scores and in PFS and OS findings.
In our cohort SMA-syndrome is reversible and therefore guarantees a satisfactory functional status at follow-up, apparently not compromising survival when compared to other lesions affecting the primary or cortical motor area -spinal tract.

Preterm infants often require assisted ventilation, however ventilation when applied to the immature lung can initiate ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI). The biotrauma which underscores VILI is largely undefined, and is likely to involve vascular injury responses, including hemostasis. We aimed to use a ventilated, preterm lamb model to (1) characterize regional alterations in hemostatic mediators within the lung and (2) assess the functional impact of protein alterations on hemostasis by analyzing temporal thrombin generation.
Preterm lambs delivered at 124 to 127days gestation received 90min of mechanical ventilation (positive end-expiratory pressure=8cm H
O, V
=6-8ml/kg) and were compared with unventilated control lambs. At study completion, lung tissue was taken from standardized nondependent and gravity-dependent regions, and Orbitrap-mass spectrometry and KEGG were used to identify and map regional alterations in hemostasis pathway members. Temporal alterations in plasma thrombin generation were assessed.
Ventilation was distributed towards the nondependent lung. Significant changes in hemostatic protein abundance, were detected at a two-fold higher rate in the nondependent lung when compared with the gravity-dependent lung. Seven proteins were uniquely altered in non-dependent lung (SERPINA1, MYL12A, RAP1B, RHOA, ITGB1, A2M, GNAI2), compared with a single proteins in gravity-dependent lung (COL1A2). Four proteins were altered in both regions (VTN, FGG, FGA, and ACTB). Tissue protein alterations were mirrored by plasma hypocoagulability at 90-minutes of ventilation.

Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, as the central stress response system, regulates cardiometabolic homeostasis and is implicated in the progression of various adverse health effects caused by inhalational airborne pollutant exposure. In this study, we investigated whether ambient PM2.5 exposure activates HPA axis and its effect mediating PM2.5-induced pulmonary inflammation. C57Bl/6 J **** were intratracheally instilled with different concentrations of diesel exhaust PM2.5 (DEP), and plasma was harvested at different times. Assessments of plasma stress hormones revealed that DEP instillation dose- and time-dependently increased mouse circulating corticosterone and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels, strongly supporting that DEP instillation activates HPA axis. To determine which components of DEP activate HPA axis, C57Bl/6J **** were intratracheally instilled with water-soluble and -insoluble fractions of DEP.

A malleable armamentarium of players might interact with β-catenin in order to activate the right "canonical" targets in each tissue, developmental stage, or disease context. Discovering the mechanism by which each tissue-specific β-catenin response is executed will be crucial to comprehend how a seemingly universal pathway fosters a wide spectrum of processes during development and homeostasis. Anxiety is a common psychiatric disorder among adolescents in developing countries. This study aimed to examine the risk factors of anxiety disorder and the adverse consequences of anxiety disorder among adolescents in Bangladesh.
A total of 2,989 adolescent data of the 2014 Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS), Bangladesh, was analyzed WHO. The prevalence of anxiety disorder across psychosocial and socio-environmental factors was calculated as descriptive statistics, whereas their effects on occurring anxiety disorder were determined using the unadjusted and adjusted multivariable binary logistic regression model. The consequences of anxiety disorder were also determined using the multivariable binary logistic regression model.
The prevalence of anxiety disorder was 4.7%, which was found higher among female than their male counterparts. The psychosocial factors were found associated with the anxiety disorder are loneliness (AOR 2.26, 95% CI 1.08-4.72), being bullied (AOR 6.00, 95% CI 3.14-1vironmental factors including bullying and physical abuse. Early screening and interventions are essential, targeted to adolescent at risk, which could reduce the rate of anxiety disorder among adolescent in Bangladesh.

Retrospective case series of 13 dogs (14 melanocytic tumors) with choroidal melanocytic tumors.
Medical records of dogs evaluated by the Cornell University ophthalmology service with a clinical diagnosis of a choroidal melanocytic tumor between 2008 and 2020 were reviewed. A choroidal melanocytic tumor was clinically defined as any well-demarcated, raised pigmented choroidal lesion underlying the retina. Histopathology results were consulted when available. Signalment and clinical features were recorded, including fundoscopic location, histopathologic findings, treatment, and outcome.
Choroidal melanocytic tumors were identified in 14 eyes of 13 dogs. The mean (±standard deviation) of dogs was 8.6 (±3.5) years. Seven different breeds were represented, with Labrador/Labrador mix being the most common. Pulmonary metastasis was suspected in one dog with an incidentally found choroidal melanocytic tumor OD. Thirty-two dogs having sustained motor vehicle trauma were consecutively enrolled. Three dogs were excluded from statistical analysis. All dogs survived to hospital discharge.
Within 24hours of sustaining trauma, dogs had LUS, TXR, and TCT performed. Using the VetBLUE protocol, LUS PC were scored according to the presence and number of B-lines and C-lines, indicating extravascular lung water. Thoracic radiographs and TCT were scored for PC in a similar topographical pattern to the VetBLUE protocol. Lung ultrasound and TXR were compared to "gold standard" TCT for the presence and quantification of PC.
On TCT, rovides reliable diagnosis of PC after trauma. More patients with PC were identified with LUS than with TXR, and additional studies are warranted to determine whether this increased sensitivity is statistically significant.

To evaluate the therapeutic effect of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HUC-****) on a murine model of bronchiolitis obliterans like injury (BOLI).
The murine model of BOLI was established by administrating of diacetyl (DA) via intratracheal instillation. Treatment of HUC-**** or HUC-**** culture medium (HUC-****-CM) was conducted in the BOLI model.
The pathogenic manifestations, lung function, and the number of neutrophils were similar between the oropharyngeal inhalation DA group (OPI-DA), intratracheal instillation group (ITI-DA); however, less reduction of weight and higher survival rate were observed in ITI-DA groups. Compared with the control groups, the trend of weight loss was significantly reduced (p < .05), and the pulmonary function was significantly improved (p < .05) in HUC-**** and HUC-****-CM groups.

Anxiety is a common psychiatric disorder among adolescents in developing countries. This study aimed to examine the risk factors of anxiety disorder and the adverse consequences of anxiety disorder among adolescents in Bangladesh. A total of 2,989 adolescent data of the 2014 Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS), Bangladesh, was analyzed WHO. The prevalence of anxiety disorder across psychosocial and socio-environmental factors was calculated as descriptive statistics, whereas their effects on occurring anxiety disorder were determined using the unadjusted and adjusted multivariable binary logistic regression model. The consequences of anxiety disorder were also determined using the multivariable binary logistic regression model. The prevalence of anxiety disorder was 4.7%, which was found higher among female than their male counterparts. The psychosocial factors were found associated with the anxiety disorder are loneliness (AOR 2.26, 95% CI 1.08-4.72), being bullied (AOR 6.00, 95% CI 3.14-1vironmental factors including bullying and physical abuse. Early screening and interventions are essential, targeted to adolescent at risk, which could reduce the rate of anxiety disorder among adolescent in Bangladesh. The signaling protein Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) is crucial for the development and function of many vertebrate tissues. It remains largely unclear, however, what defines the range and specificity of pathway activation. The adrenal gland represents a useful model to address this question, where the SHH pathway is activated in a very specific subset of cells lying near the SHH-producing cells, even though there is an abundance of lipoproteins that would allow SHH to travel and signal long-range. We determine that, whereas adrenal cells can secrete SHH on lipoproteins, this form of SHH is inactive due to the presence of cosecreted inhibitors, potentially explaining the absence of long-range signaling. Instead, we find that SHH-producing cells signal at short range via membrane-bound SHH, only to receiving cells with primary cilia. Finally, our data from NCI-H295R adrenocortical carcinoma cells suggest that adrenocortical tumors may evade these regulatory control mechanisms by acquiring the ability to activate SHH target genes in response to TGF-β.Mitochondria are dynamic organelles with essential roles in signaling and metabolism. Obesity decreases the angiogenic capacity of AT. There are differences between SAT and VAT; from the 21 angiogenic-related genes analyzed, only three were decreased in SAT compared with those decreased in VAT. ASCs isolated from both fat depots showed significant differences; there was a significant up-regulation of the VEGF-pathway on visceral derived ASCs. To optimize the allocation of health care resources, research on specific vulnerability factors, such as health anxiety, intolerance of uncertainty, and distress (in)tolerance, and particularly their effect on the time course of SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety appears crucial for supporting high risk groups suffering from elevated mental distress during the pandemic. N = 887 participants (78.4% female; Mage = 38.15, SD = 17.04) completed an online survey in Germany (April to mid-May 2020), comprising measures of SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety, health anxiety, safety and preventive behavior, intolerance of uncertainty, and distress intolerance. Higher levels of health anxiety pre and during COVID-19 were associated with an initially intensified increase (b = 1.10, p less then 0.001), but later on a more rapid dampening (b = -0.18, p less then 0.001) of SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety. SARS-CoV-2 related preventive behavior was intensified by both pre (b = 0.06, p = 0.01) and during (b = 0.15, p less then 0.001) COVID-19 health anxiety, while reassurance behavior only was associated with health anxiety during COVID-19 (b = 0.14, p less then 0.001). Distress intolerance and intolerance of uncertainty did not moderate the relationship between health anxiety and SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety and behavior. The results suggest detrimental effects of health anxiety on the emotional and behavioral response to virus outbreaks.Carbon metabolism is a crucial aspect of cell life. Calorie restriction is considered as the most effective way to improve cellular physiological capacity, and its molecular mechanisms are complex and include several nutrient signaling pathways. It is widely assumed that the metabolic shift from fermentation to respiration is treated as a substantial driving force for the mechanism of calorie restriction and its influence on reproductive capabilities of cells. In this paper, we propose another approach to this issue based on analysis the connection between energy-producing and biomass formation pathways which are closed in the metabolic triangle, i.e., the respiration-glycolysis-pentose phosphate pathway. The analyses were based on the use of cells lacking hexokinase 2 (∆hxk2) and conditions of different glucose concentration corresponding to the calorie restriction and the calorie excess. Hexokinase 2 is the key enzyme involved in central carbon metabolism and is also treated as a calorie restriction mimetic. The experimental model used allows us to explain both the role of increased respiration as an effect of calorie restriction but also other aspects of carbon metabolism and the related metabolic flux in regulation of reproductive potential of the cells. The obtained results reveal that increased respiration is not a prerequisite for reproductive potential extension but rather an accompanying effect of the positive role of calorie restriction. More important seems to be the changes connected with fluxes in central carbon metabolic pathways resulting in low biosynthetic capabilities and improved proteostasis.

N = 887 participants (78.4% female; Mage = 38.15, SD = 17.04) completed an online survey in Germany (April to mid-May 2020), comprising measures of SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety, health anxiety, safety and preventive behavior, intolerance of uncertainty, and distress intolerance. Higher levels of health anxiety pre and during COVID-19 were associated with an initially intensified increase (b = 1.10, p less then 0.001), but later on a more rapid dampening (b = -0.18, p less then 0.001) of SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety. SARS-CoV-2 related preventive behavior was intensified by both pre (b = 0.06, p = 0.01) and during (b = 0.15, p less then 0.001) COVID-19 health anxiety, while reassurance behavior only was associated with health anxiety during COVID-19 (b = 0.14, p less then 0.001). Distress intolerance and intolerance of uncertainty did not moderate the relationship between health anxiety and SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety and behavior. It is widely assumed that the metabolic shift from fermentation to respiration is treated as a substantial driving force for the mechanism of calorie restriction and its influence on reproductive capabilities of cells. In this paper, we propose another approach to this issue based on analysis the connection between energy-producing and biomass formation pathways which are closed in the metabolic triangle, i.e., the respiration-glycolysis-pentose phosphate pathway. The analyses were based on the use of cells lacking hexokinase 2 (∆hxk2) and conditions of different glucose concentration corresponding to the calorie restriction and the calorie excess. Hexokinase 2 is the key enzyme involved in central carbon metabolism and is also treated as a calorie restriction mimetic. The experimental model used allows us to explain both the role of increased respiration as an effect of calorie restriction but also other aspects of carbon metabolism and the related metabolic flux in regulation of reproductive potential of the cells. The obtained results reveal that increased respiration is not a prerequisite for reproductive potential extension but rather an accompanying effect of the positive role of calorie restriction. In this study, the concentrations of two acute-phase proteins (APPs), haptoglobin (Hp) and serum amyloid A (SAA), were quantitatively assessed in serum samples from cattle naturally infected with paratuberculosis (PTB). APP profiles were compared across 190 animals classified according to the different pathological forms associated with infection uninfected (n = 59), with focal lesions (n = 73), multifocal lesions (n = 19), and diffuse paucibacillary (n = 11) and diffuse multibacillary lesions (n = 28). Our results showed a significant increase in both APPs in infected animals compared to the control group, with differences depending on the type of lesion. Hp and SAA levels were increased significantly in all infected animals, except in cows with diffuse multibacillary lesions that showed similar values to non-infected animals. The expression pattern of both APPs was similar and negatively correlated with the antibody levels against PTB. These results indicate that the release of Hp and SAA is related to the presence of PTB lesions associated with a high cell-mediated immune response and a lower bacterial load, suggesting that the pro-inflammatory cytokines that are associated with these forms are the main stimulus for their synthesis. The data analysis included investigation of EEG and carotid blood flow indexes, which are significant in neurological diagnosis, as well as calculation of linear and non-linear EEG parameters and ratios between the systolic peak velocities of carotid arteries and carotid blood asymmetry. We have found age-dependent correlations between EEG and power Doppler ultrasound imaging (PDUI) data. Carotid blood flow asymmetry correlated with delta-rhythm power spectral density only in preschoolers. The ratios of blood flow velocities in the internal carotid arteries to those in the common carotid arteries correlated with higher peak alpha frequency and lower fractal dimension; moreover, they were associated with lower Epworth sleepiness scale scores. The study revealed significant correlations between EEG and PDUI imaging indexes, which are different for healthy children and adults. Despite the fact that the correlations were associated with non-clinical states such as overwork or stress, we assumed that the investigated parameters could be applicable for clinical trials.Given the emerging tobacco landscape, dual use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes has increased among young adults, but little is known about its associated factors. In October 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published a report condemning the practice of virginity testing, which are scientifically unfounded and turn out to be harmful for the women who are victims of these. In February 2019, the Belgian National Council of Physicians Order follows the WHO and has recalled that virginity testing is not justified, neither scientifically nor ethically. To complete these reports, the present article intends to provide to the clinician, whatever its speciality field, an up-to-date and practical guide explaining the nature of hymen, its clinical examination, the mechanism leading to the onset of the lesions, their description and their forensic interpretation. According to the legal and social aspects of forensic medicine, we also would like to recall the nature and the inherent dangers of virginity testing, as well as the legal framework of which the clinician must be aware of, in response to such a request from a patient.Haemophilic arthropathy affects about half of the patients who suffer from haemophilia. Despite the fact that it's one of the main morbidity factors of haemophilia and that the pathophysiology of its mechanism is slowly better understood, its management is still under discussion. The cases of two men (53 and 54 years old) who suffer from ankle haemophilic arthropathy since several years are reported. For both cases, different aspects of the management are investigated, including a medicated and a physiotherapy approach, and an adequate orthotic. Materials and methods We conducted a cross-sectional study with a probabilistic sample of high school students between 13 and 17 years of age from official and private schools. We analyzed the use of Cannabis some time in life and suicide risk was quantified using the suicide ideation scale designed by the Center for Epidemiological Studies on Depression. Scores greater than eight were categorized as a high suicide risk. The crude and adjusted opportunity ratio (OR) was estimated. Results A total of 1,462 students participated. Their mean age was 14.

The identification and validation of sensitive and specific biomarkers for this condition are still a subject of intensive research. Among them, natriuretic peptides (ANP, BNP, NTproBNP) are widely used and validated as markers of heart failure. Their appropriate use and correct interpretation, however, require knowledge of their indications, specificities and limitations. The European Society of Cardiology has recently issued recommendations in this regard. This article summarizes them in order to facilitate the understanding and the use of natriuretic peptides in clinical practice. The deviations of 97 implants were (0.76±0.57)mm,(1.41±0.90)mm,(4.76±3.68)° at shoulder, apex and angle.The deviation of shoulder apex and angle between three surgeons was significantly different(P<0.05). The deviations between left and right group were not significantly different (P>0.05); the deviations between anterior group and left group were significantly different(P<0.05); the deviations between anterior group and right group were not significantly different(P>0.05). To investigate the effect of Bio-Oss bone powder combined with platelet-rich fibrin on bone mass after implantation-guided bone regeneration in alveolar bone defects.
One hundred and six patients with single anterior tooth loss and labial alveolar bone defect were selected for implant implantation and guided bone regeneration at the same time. Patients in the experimental group (n=53) were treated with Bio-Oss bone powder combined with platelet-rich fibrin and biofilm to guide bone regeneration, while patients in the control group(n=53) were treated with Bio-Oss bone powder combined with biofilm to guide bone regeneration. The success rate of implantation, complication rate, the thickness of labial bone wall and the regeneration of bone defect were observed. Statistical analysis was performed on the data using SPSS 25.0 software package.
There was no significant difference in the success rate of implants between the two groups(96.23% vs 88.68%, P>0.05). The thickness of the labial bone wall of the exelet-rich fibrin can reduce bone loss and promote bone defect regeneration after guided bone regeneration.

One hundred and twenty-four cases with atrophic glossitis and 53 healthy controls were collected from Qingdao local population. The main indexes including general status, oral examination findings, hemoglobin (Hb), mean red blood cell volume (MCV), vitamin B12, ferritin, folic acid, anemia and anemia type, xerostomia and candida infection were statistically analyzed using SPSS 20.0 software package for Student's t test.
Among 124 cases of glossitis group, 48.39% were found with anemia, 41.94% with xerostomia, 79.03% with Candida infection, 29.03% with Vitamin B12 deficiency, 22.58% with ferritin deficiency, 11.29% with folic acid deficiency. The contents of hemoglobin, ferritin and vitamin B12 in glossitis group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05), and the number of glossitis patients with anemia, xerostomia and candida infection were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in folic acid content between the two groups(P<0.05).

Reports have demonstrated that long noncoding RNAs perform a critical role in the development and metastasis of cancers. The lncRNA TTN-AS1 is considered carcinogenic. Nevertheless, the importance and biological functions of TTN-AS1 in breast cancer require greater exploration. In the current paper, we observed that TTN-AS1 expression was significantly upregulated in breast cancer tissues/cells compared with those that are healthy. TTN-AS1 enhanced the proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation of breast cancer cells. Furthermore, a direct target of TTN-AS1, miR-139-5p was negatively regulated. In addition, zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) is an important nuclear transcription factor, the expression of which is increased in multiple tumors. Here, we also found that ZEB1 is a target of miR-139-5p, of which TTN-AS1 could regulate the expression through competition with miR-139-5p. That is, TTN-AS1 promoted proliferation and invasion of breast cancer cells by interaction with the miR-139-5p/ZEB1 axis. In this work, we present a new model of incremental sentence processing difficulty that unifies and extends key features of both kinds of models. Our model, lossy-context surprisal, holds that the processing difficulty at a word in context is proportional to the surprisal of the word given a lossy memory representation of the context-that is, a memory representation that does not contain complete information about previous words. We show that this model provides an intuitive explanation for an outstanding puzzle involving interactions of memory and expectations language-dependent structural forgetting, where the effects of memory on sentence processing appear to be moderated by language statistics. Furthermore, we demonstrate that dependency locality effects, a signature prediction of memory-based theories, can be derived from lossy-context surprisal as a special case of a novel, more general principle called information locality. PARTICIPANTS Children (6-16 years) with spherical equivalent ≤ - 1.50D in each eye, astigmatism ≤1.50D, and myopia progression by ≥0.50D/year. METHODS Enrolled children were randomly assigned 21 to receive 0.01% atropine or placebo eyedrops. Participants are examined every six months during first three years of the study (2-year treatment phase followed by a 1-year washout phase), and then at a 5-year follow-up (two years after the end of the washout phase).

Microplastic pollution is becoming a major challenge with the growing use of plastic. In recent years, research about microplastic pollution in the environment has become a field of study with increased interest, with ever expanding findings on sources, sinks and pathways of microplastics. Wastewater treatment plants effectively remove microplastics from wastewater and concentrate them in sewage sludge which is often used to fertilise agricultural fields. Despite this, quantification of microplastic pollution in agricultural fields through the application of sewage sludge is largely unknown. In light of this issue, four wastewater treatment plants and 16 agricultural fields (0-8 sewage sludge applications of 20-22 tons ha-1 per application), located in the east of Spain, were sampled. Microplastics were extracted using a floatation and filtration method, making a distinction between light density microplastics (ρ 1 g cm-3). DISCUSSION Liver and lungs are often the end destination for hydatid cysts, while other places like mediastinum, diaphragm, cardiac, smooth and skeletal muscles, abdominal and chest walls are rarely involved. In this case, the cyst affected even a rarer organ which was the left lobe of thyroid gland. Most of the time the disease is asymptomatic and is found accidentally, yet depending on the site and size of the cysts, symptoms can occur. CONCLUSION Hydatid disease of thyroid gland is an extremely rare condition. The main presenting symptom is swelling. Operation under general anesthesia is the only modality of treatment. OBJECTIVE Many children experience tobacco smoke exposure (TSE) and parents may take preventive measures to reduce TSE. The study goal is to assess if these strategies are associated with lower cotinine values, an objective biological measure of TSE. METHODS Families admitted to Children's Hospital Colorado from 2014-2018 who screened positive for TSE were invited to participate in a tobacco smoking cessation/reduction program. Caregivers were consented and asked about demographics, beliefs around smoking, and strategies to reduce TSE. Child urine samples were collected, tested for cotinine levels, and analyzed using geometric means. Bi-variable comparisons and multivariable linear regression were completed using SAS v9.4. RESULTS 213 children (81.4%) are included in this analysis. The median ages of children and parents were 4 and 32 years. 57% of children were male, 36% were Hispanic, and 55% were white. 56% of parents had at least some college education and 69% had an annual income less than $50K. The median daily cigarettes smoked per day was 10.
Microplastic pollution is becoming a major challenge with the growing use of plastic. In recent years, research about microplastic pollution in the environment has become a field of study with increased interest, with ever expanding findings on sources, sinks and pathways of microplastics. Wastewater treatment plants effectively remove microplastics from wastewater and concentrate them in sewage sludge which is often used to fertilise agricultural fields. Despite this, quantification of microplastic pollution in agricultural fields through the application of sewage sludge is largely unknown. In light of this issue, four wastewater treatment plants and 16 agricultural fields (0-8 sewage sludge applications of 20-22 tons ha-1 per application), located in the east of Spain, were sampled. Microplastics were extracted using a floatation and filtration method, making a distinction between light density microplastics (ρ 1 g cm-3). In Japan, the governmental recommnendation of HPV vaccine has been suspended since June 2013, due to media reports of alleged adverse vaccination events. Although evidence of effectiveness and safety of the HPV vaccine has been universally demonstrated, and the medical and academic organizations across Japan have requested the resumption of the government's recommendation, the Japanese government has not changed their official stance towards the HPV vaccine. Under the current suspension of the national government's recommendation, one local government Isumi City started sending a leaflet containing information of cervical cancer and HPV vaccine, but not recommendation for the vaccine, to the tagted girls born in the fiscal year (FY) 2003. The cumulative vaccination rate of them reached 10.07% (14/139), which was significantly higher than that (0.00%) for girls born in FY 2002 who did not receive such a leaflet (p less then 0.001). We sincerely ask the national government to change their stance towards the HPV vaccine. We also strongly suggest that, in the meantime, local governments immediately begin to provide an appropriate information of cervical cancer and HPV vaccine to the targeted girls and their parents in a way similar to what Isumi City has now shown to be effective.The Roma people are the largest transnational ethnic minority in Europe and can be considered the last human migration of South Asian origin into the continent. They left Northwest India approximately 1,000 years ago, reaching the Balkan Peninsula around the twelfth century and Romania in the fourteenth century. Here, we analyze whole-genome sequencing data of 40 Roma and 40 non-Roma individuals from Romania. We performed a genome-wide scan of selection comparing Roma, their local host population, and a Northwestern Indian population, to identify the selective pressures faced by the Roma mainly after they settled in Europe. We identify under recent selection several pathways implicated in immune responses, among them cellular metabolism pathways known to be rewired after immune stimulation. We validated the interaction between PIK3-mTOR-HIF-1α and cytokine response influenced by bacterial and fungal infections. Our results point to a significant role of these pathways for host defense against the most prevalent pathogens in Europe during the last millennium.What we taste is affected by what we see, and that includes the colour, opacity, and shape of the food we consume. We report two experiments designed to investigate how the standard deviation (SD) of the luminance distribution of food images influences the perceived visual texture and the taste/flavour experience by using the latest Augmented Reality (AR) technology. We developed a novel AR system capable of modifying the luminance distribution of foods in real-time using dynamic image processing for simulating actual eating situations. Importantly, this form of dynamic image manipulation does not change the colour on the food (which has been studied extensively previously). Instead, the approach outlined here was used to change the SD of the luminance distribution of the food while keeping the chromaticity, the average luminance, and the skewness constant. We investigated the effects of changing the luminance SD distribution of Baumkuchen (a German baked cake) and tomato ketchup on visual perception, flavour expectations, and the ensuing taste experience. Participants looked at a piece of Baumkuchen (Experiment 1) or a spoonful of tomato ketchup (Experiment 2) having different luminance distributions and evaluated the taste on sampling the food. Manipulating the SD of the luminance distribution affected not only the expected taste/flavour of the food (e.g. expected moistness, wateriness and deliciousness), but also the actual taste properties on sampling the food itself. The novel food modification method and system outlined here can therefore potentially be used to control the taste/flavour of different foods crossmodally by means of modifying their appearance properties (specifically the SD of the luminance distribution while keeping other aspects of image statistics constant), and can do so in real time, without the need for food markers.Mouse models of Streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetes represent the most widely used preclinical diabetes research systems. We applied state of the art optical imaging schemes, spanning from single islet resolution to the whole organ, providing a first longitudinal, 3D-spatial and quantitative account of β-cell mass (BCM) dynamics and islet longevity in STZ-treated ****. The radiative heat transfer is calculated using Rytov's theory of fluctuating electrodynamics, while a two-fluid model describes the dielectric function of the superconducting materials. Our main result is the significant suppression of the NFRHT when one or both of the slabs are superconducting, which is explained in terms of the detailed balance of the charge carriers density together with the sudden reduction of the free electron scattering rate. A critical and unique feature affecting the radiative heat transfer between high-temperature superconductors is the large damping of the mid-infrared carriers which screens the surface plasmon excitation.
