  • It has been reported that α2-adrenoceptor agonists such as medetomidine decrease tear flow in many species, including rats. Few studies have investigated the involvement of α2-adrenoceptor in decreased tear flow; the issue has not been illustrated sufficiently. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effect of different doses of atipamezole on the reversal of medetomidine-induced tear-flow decrease to reveal the specific involvement of α2-adrenoceptor. Treatment with 400, 800, or 1600 µg/kg atipamezole (or saline as the control) was intramuscularly administered to rats 15 min following intramuscular administration of 200 µg/kg medetomidine. After medetomidine administration, tear flow was measured using a phenol red thread test (PRTT). PRTT values decreased significantly after 200 µg/kg medetomidine administration. The PRTT values after 800 (optimal dose to reverse) and 1600 µg/kg atipamezole administration reached baseline, but never exceeded it significantly. Treatment with 400 µg/kg atipamezole also reversed the decrease in PRTT value but the PRTT remained lower than baseline. The optimal dose and the higher dose of atipamezole fully reversed the medetomidine-induced decrease in tear flow to the baseline level in rats, while the lower dose of atipamezole partially recovered tear flow.Terbinafine hydrochloride, although one of the prominent antifungal agents, suffers from low drug permeation owing to its hydrophobic nature. The approach of nanosponge formulation may thus help to resolve this concern. The dependent and independent process parameters were also determined wherein polyvinyl alcohol (%), ethylcellulose (%), and tween 80 (%) were taken as independent process parameters and particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), and entrapment efficiency (EE) were the dependent parameters. The nanosponge was then incorporated into the hydrogel and characterized. In-vitro drug release from the hydrogel was 90.20 ± 0.1% which was higher than the drug suspension and marketed formulation. In vitro permeation potential of the developed formulation through rat skin showed a flux of 0.594 ± 0.22 µg/cm2/h while the permeability coefficient was 0.059 ± 0.022 cm/s. Nanosponge hydrogel was evaluated for non-irritancy and antifungal activity against C. albicans and T. rubrum confirming the substantial outcome. Tape stripping studies exhibited ten times stripping off the skin quantified 85.6 ± 0.21 μg/cm2. The confocal analysis justified the permeation potential of the prepared hydrogel. The mean erythemal score was 0.0, confirming that the prepared hydrogel did not cause erythema or oedema. In this review, we focus on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of different classes of polyphenols with a specific attention to their potential in the prevention of intestinal pathological processes. We also discuss the latest biotechnology strategies and new advances of genomic techniques as a helpful tool for polyphenols biofortification and the development of novel, healthy dietary alternatives that can contribute to the prevention of inflammatory bowel diseases.Gui-A-Gra, a commercial insect powder from Gryllus bimaculatus, is registered as an edible insect by the Korean food and drug administration. A total of 72 rats were randomly divided into the following six groups (12 rats in each group) a normal control group (CTR), a group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 1.63 gm/kg (G1.63), a group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 6.5 gm/kg (G6.5), a varicocele (VC)-induced control group (VC), a VC-induced group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 1.63 gm/kg (VC + G1.63), and a VC-induced group administrated with Gui-A-Gra 6.5 gm/kg (VC + G6.5). Rats were administrated 1.63 or 6.5 gm/kg Gui-A-Gra once daily for 42 days. Indicators of sperm parameters, histopathology, reproductive hormones, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, inflammation, and mitochondrial apoptosis were analyzed to evaluate effects of Gui-A-Gra on VC-induced testicular dysfunction.

This fact, coupled with recurrence of COVID-19 in areas where it had been controlled, highlights the critical need for a safe and effective vaccine to prevent and mitigate this novel virus. The spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 is important in its lifecycle as well as in the development of immunity after human infection. This has prompted the selection of this antigen as a focus in developing COVID-19 vaccines. This article provides (1) a summary of the host immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection, (2) the vaccine platforms being used with COVID-19 vaccine candidates undergoing, or about to undergo, Phase III clinical trial testing, and (3) an overview of the key criteria necessary for COVID-19 vaccine efficacy and safety. In addition, the unique concept of vaccine-enhanced disease will be discussed. The effects of histone participation could be beneficial or deleterious to the BER process, depending on the circumstances. In the absence of APE1, histones enhanced the AP lyase activity of hOGG1 by cross-linking with 3'-PUA. However, the formed histone-PUA DPCs hampered the subsequent repair process. In the presence of APE1, both the AP lyase activity of hOGG1 and the formation of histone-PUA DPCs were suppressed. In this case, histones could catalyse removal of the 5'-dRP by transiently cross-linking with the active intermediate. That is, histones promoted the repair by acting as 5'-dRP lyases.

This fact, coupled with recurrence of COVID-19 in areas where it had been controlled, highlights the critical need for a safe and effective vaccine to prevent and mitigate this novel virus. The spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 is important in its lifecycle as well as in the development of immunity after human infection. This has prompted the selection of this antigen as a focus in developing COVID-19 vaccines. This article provides (1) a summary of the host immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection, (2) the vaccine platforms being used with COVID-19 vaccine candidates undergoing, or about to undergo, Phase III clinical trial testing, and (3) an overview of the key criteria necessary for COVID-19 vaccine efficacy and safety.   • Novel approaches are obligatory to treat chronic intracellular bacterial infectious diseases like Brucellosis specifically, are very complicated to deal with. The aim of the study to take upon nanotechnology approach to exploit the efficacy of the synthesized nanoparticles, to overcome barriers for treatment of Brucella species and other pathogens. Present study used Rivina humilis extract as reductant of silver ions for synthesis of silver nanoparticles for the first time. Rh-AgNP's was characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, DLS, FT-IR, SEM, EDS, TEM and XRD. Radical scavenging, antibrucellosis, bactericidal activity was evaluated. Clinical application was assessed by Rate of haemolysis, fibrinolytic and Hemagglutination activity. UV-visible spectrum of synthesized Rh-AgNP's showed maximum peak at 440 nm indicating the formation of nanoparticles. TEM showed that the average particle size of nanoparticles 51 nm with spherical shape, DLS depicted monodisperse state in water; EDS confirmed the presence of silver metal. Rh-AgNP's exhibited potential antibrucellosis activity against B. abortus, B. melitensis and B. suis effective inhibition at 800 μg/mL. The bio-compatibility of Rh-AgNP's was established by rate of haemolysis, hemagglutination and fibrinolytic activity. For the first time it has been proved that Rh-AgNP's have efficacy as antimicrobial agent with potential application in the biological domain.Hyaluronic acid (HA) has great importance in biomedical applications. In this work, a novel nanoparticle-based method that stimulates the hyaluronic acid (HA) production by the bacteria Streptococcus equi subsp. Zooepidemicus has been reported. CNTs with diameters of 40-50 nm and lengths of about 20 mm were used at four different concentrations (0, 10, 25, 50, and 100 μg) to the bacteria and determined the mass of the produced HA in dependence on the exposure time under UV-irradiation. The results clearly showed that the exposure for one minute with low power UV light (254 nm) and 100 µg (CNTs) treatments steadily increased HA production from the control (0.062 g/L) to the highest value (0.992) g/L of HA. The incubation of the streptococci with CNTs led to an increase of the HA production by a factor of 4.23 after 300S exposure time under UV light, whereas the HA production was no significant enhancement under visible light. It is explained that the CNTs nanoparticle-stimulated increase of the HA production with the internalization of the nanoparticles by the bacteria since they "serve as co-enzymes" under induced mutation by UV-irradiation. Potential secondary metabolites, such as benzophenone, dihydro-methyl-phenylacridine, carbanilic acid, dinitrobenzoate, propanediamine, isoquinoline, piperidin, oxazolidin, and pyrrolidine, were identified by gas chromatography and mass spectrophotometry (GCMS).

  • Taken together, we found that the LSPE suppressed cell proliferation and induced apoptosis of NSCLC cells, which is attenuated or augmented by overexpression or RNA interference of Axl expression, respectively.     We assessed whether social inequalities in smoking observed among young adults born in Canada were also apparent in same-age immigrants.

    Data were drawn from an investigation of social inequalities in smoking conducted in an urban setting (Montreal, Canada). The sample included 2077 young adults age 18 to 25 (56.6% female; 18.9% immigrants who had lived in Canada 11.6 (SD 6.4) years on average). The association between education and current smoking was examined in multivariable logistic regression analyses conducted separately in young adults born in Canada and in immigrants.

    About 19.5% of immigrants were current smokers compared to 23.8% of young adults born in Canada. In immigrants, relative to those with university education, the adjusted odds ratios (OR) (95% confidence interval) for current smoking were 1.2 (0.6, 2.3) among those with pre-university/vocational training and 1.5 (0.7, 2.9) among those with high school education. In non-immigrants, the adjusted ORs were 1.9 (1.4, 2.5) among those with pre-university/vocational training and 4.0 (2.9, 5.5) among those with high school.

    The attributional style of clinical workers will affect their emotion and behavior and affect how they deal with the relationship with patients. Current tools lack clinical events and are not suitable for measuring the attributional style of doctor. In this study, the development of the Doctor's Attributional Style Questionnaire (DASQ) is presented.

    In study 1, based on the previous literature and the open-ended questionnaire, the theoretical structure of DASQ was constructed. In study 2, items analysis and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were conducted in the sample (n=559) to select the best items for the DASQ. In study 3, the internal structure of the DASQ was tested in the sample (n=740) via confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and 218 doctors were retested four weeks later.

    There are 24 items in the scale, including positive events questionnaire and negative events questionnaire, all of which are composed of four dimensions controllability, globality, stability, and internality. The fitting degree of each questionnaire model is good, and all indexes are above 0.9. The internal consistency coefficient and retest coefficient of both the positive events questionnaire and the negative events questionnaire were above 0.75.

    We aimed to compare the imaging features of gestational trophoblastic neoplasias (GTNs) and benign pregnancy-related uterine diseases on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to explore the clinical value of CEUS in differentiating these two types of uterine lesions.

    In this prospective study, patients with GTNs before and after chemotherapy and benign pregnancy-related uterine lesions received conventional US and CEUS. The imaging features and parameters of CEUS of the lesions were assessed.

    A total of 73 patients were enrolled in this study, including 48 with GTNs and 25 with benign lesions. The enhancement pattern of newly diagnosed GTNs was mainly diffuse enhancement (70.8%), with a non-enhanced area of less than 1/3 of the entire lesion. For the benign group, the enhancement pattern was mainly ring-shaped enhancement (72.0%), and the non-enhanced area was more than 1/2 (68.0%), significantly different from that of GTNs (
    = 0.000 and 0.002, respectively). Forty-one lesions demonstrated unclear boundaries on greyscale US but clearly displayed on CEUS. In both the benign and malignant groups, the measurements of lesion size on CEUS were larger than those on greyscale US (
    = 0.000). The measurement differences (ΔD D2-D1) of the malignant cases were higher than those of the benign cases (

  • Osteochondrosis (OC) is not well recognized in cattle. Japanese Black (JB) cattle are valued for their beef and studies regarding OC are scarce. Hence, the aim of this study was to retrospectively discuss clinical and radiographical findings, diagnosis and treatment options for OC in JB cattle for successful outcomes. Medical records of 11 calves affected with OC were reviewed, retrospectively. Clinical and radiographic findings, treatment and outcomes and postmortem examination findings were analyzed. All calves had lameness. Stifle (4/14) and tarsal (4/14) were the most affected joints. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tinengotinib.html Subchondral bone lucencies were observed in all joints (14/14) and accompanied with sclerosis (10/14). A modified radiographic grading criteria for clinical cases may hold potential in evaluating prognosis and outcomes.Objectives This study aimed to examine employment status differences in the marriage and fertility rates of Japanese women via an age-period-cohort (APC) analysis.Methods We used data collected from 1995 to 2015 in Japan based on the government's "Report of Vital Statistics Occupational and Industrial Aspects," which recorded the marriage rates of unmarried adults and fertility rates of married adults-according to their employment status. A Bayesian APC analysis was performed to identify changes in marriage and fertility rates based on three effects age, period, and cohort. Finally, we calculated the marriage and fertility rate ratios between non-employed and employed women for each age group, period, and cohort.Results The APC analyses showed that the period effect on marriage rates for non-employed women decreased during the periods analyzed, while that for employed women increased from 2005. Meanwhile, the period effect on fertility rates increased regardless of employment status, albeit to a larger degree for employed women. The cohort effect on marriage rates began to decrease from cohorts born in the 1960s for non-employed women, and from cohorts born in the 1970s for employed women. And the degree of the decrease was larger among non-employed women than those employed. Meanwhile, the marriage rate ratio increased from 0.46 (95% CI 0.21, 0.90) in the cohort born between 1946 and 1950 to 1.00 (95% CI 0.45, 1.92) in the cohort born between 1991 and 1995. The evaluation of the training was based on the Kirkpatrick model from the viewpoint of confidence in using facilitation, knowledge of facilitation, and conduct of training and icipants responded to the question of the role of the facilitator in role-playing. The descriptions were categorized into "opinions on the basics and planning of role-play training" and "opinions on the roles in retrospectives."Conclusion The participants evaluated the training contents and the materials used as appropriate, and their knowledge and confidence in facilitation improved after the training. To maintain and improve facilitation skills, the educational system needs to implement training using role-playing at each branch consistently.Objectives This study aimed to identify how communicative and critical health literacy (CCHL) was associated with hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia in a regional Japanese community.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted through stratified random sampling to achieve the study objectives. The sample comprised adults aged 20-75 years, residing in Ebetsu in Hokkaido, Japan. Stratification was accomplished by classifying the population into 3 districts of Ebetsu city, with 1,000 people being randomly selected from each district. A self-reporting questionnaire was then administered over July and August 2018 to these 3,000 participants. Ebetsu city officials distributed and collected the questionnaires, delivering anonymized data to the researchers. Of the 1,630 respondents, 8 did not complete the CCHL questionnaire and 43 did not fill the disease status questionnaire, so these were excluded. The final analysis was performed on the responses received from 692 men and 887 women. The CCHL scores were grr prevalence of hypertension than those with the lowest CCHL scores. However, these associations were found to be non-significant after adjusting for confounding factors. Future studies on the association of CCHL with lifestyle disorders should apply a longitudinal design.
    Osteochondrosis (OC) is not well recognized in cattle. Japanese Black (JB) cattle are valued for their beef and studies regarding OC are scarce. Hence, the aim of this study was to retrospectively discuss clinical and radiographical findings, diagnosis and treatment options for OC in JB cattle for successful outcomes. Medical records of 11 calves affected with OC were reviewed, retrospectively. Clinical and radiographic findings, treatment and outcomes and postmortem examination findings were analyzed. All calves had lameness. A modified radiographic grading criteria for clinical cases may hold potential in evaluating prognosis and outcomes.Objectives This study aimed to examine employment status differences in the marriage and fertility rates of Japanese women via an age-period-cohort (APC) analysis.Methods We used data collected from 1995 to 2015 in Japan based on the government's "Report of Vital Statistics Occupational and Industrial Aspects," which recorded the marriage rates of unmarried adults and fertility rates of married adults-according to their employment status. A Bayesian APC analysis was performed to identify changes in marriage and fertility rates based on three effects age, period, and cohort. Finally, we calculated the marriage and fertility rate ratios between non-employed and employed women for each age group, period, and cohort.Results The APC analyses showed that the period effect on marriage rates for non-employed women decreased during the periods analyzed, while that for employed women increased from 2005. Meanwhile, the period effect on fertility rates increased regardless of employment status, albeit to a larger degree for employed women. The cohort effect on marriage rates began to decrease from cohorts born in the 1960s for non-employed women, and from cohorts born in the 1970s for employed women. And the degree of the decrease was larger among non-employed women than those employed. Meanwhile, the marriage rate ratio increased from 0.46 (95% CI 0.21, 0.90) in the cohort born between 1946 and 1950 to 1.00 (95% CI 0.45, 1.92) in the cohort born between 1991 and 1995. The headquarters of the PHNs of JHIA and the researchers conducted a training program for leaders of PHNs at each JHIA branch. The sample comprised adults aged 20-75 years, residing in Ebetsu in Hokkaido, Japan. Stratification was accomplished by classifying the population into 3 districts of Ebetsu city, with 1,000 people being randomly selected from each district. A self-reporting questionnaire was then administered over July and August 2018 to these 3,000 participants. Ebetsu city officials distributed and collected the questionnaires, delivering anonymized data to the researchers. Of the 1,630 respondents, 8 did not complete the CCHL questionnaire and 43 did not fill the disease status questionnaire, so these were excluded. The final analysis was performed on the responses received from 692 men and 887 women. The CCHL scores were grr prevalence of hypertension than those with the lowest CCHL scores. Novel adaptive derivative-assembled pseudo-trotter (ADAPT) ansatz approaches and recent formal advances now establish a clear connection between the theory of quantum chemistry and the quantum state ansatz used to solve the electronic structure problem. Here we benchmark the accuracy of VQE and ADAPT-VQE to calculate the electronic ground states and potential energy curves for a few selected diatomic molecules, namely H2, NaH, and KH. Using numerical simulation, we find both methods provide good estimates of the energy and ground state, but only ADAPT-VQE proves to be robust to particularities in optimization methods. Another relevant finding is that gradient-based optimization is overall more economical and delivers superior performance than analogous simulations carried out with gradient-free optimizers. Four zircon standards (91500, M257, TEMORA-2, and Plešovice) were measured to prove the reliability of the established procedure. The original U-Pb apparent data show inconsistent deviation on four directions relative to the datum, while the final U-Pb age results is calibrated to be consistent with their recommended values, within uncertainties of ~1%. The effects of formate salts on the linear swelling ratio and zeta potential of the clay minerals were studied. The experimental results showed that ammonium formate could effectively recover the rare earth elements from weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth as well as inhibit the leaching of impurity aluminum. At room temperature, when the ammonium formate concentration was 1% wt, the leaching efficiencies of rare earth and aluminum were 87 and 37%, respectively. Compared with traditional inorganic ammonium salts, the inhibition effect of impurity aluminum was obvious. In addition, the results of the linear swelling ratio in the clay minerals showed that the inhibit ability of formate salts on the hydration of clay minerals enhanced with the increase of the formate concentration, and the order of the inhabitation on the clay minerals followed 1% ammonium formate > 1.5% potassium formate > 2.5% sodium formate > distilled water. Based on the double layer theory, ammonium formate and potassium formate could effectively compress clay mineral particles to avoid water intake, which could increase the interaction between clay mineral particles and greatly reduce the electronegative property of the clay minerals, so as to effectively reduce the surface hydration of clay minerals to decrease the swelling of rare earth ore. The results of this experiment have important and practical significance in guiding the prevention of landslides, promoting the in-situ leaching technology, and effectively protecting the ecological environment in mining areas.

    The National Health Service Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (NHS BCSP) in England has replaced guaiac faecal occult blood testing by faecal immunochemical testing (FIT). There is interest in fully exploiting FIT measures to improve bowel cancer (CRC) screening strategies. In this paper, we estimate the relationship of the quantitative haemoglobin concentration provided by FIT in faecal samples with underlying pathology. From this we estimate thresholds required for given levels of sensitivity to CRC and high-risk adenomas (HRA).

    Data were collected from a pilot study of FIT in England in 2014, in which 27,238 participants completed a FIT. Those with a faecal haemoglobin concentration (f-Hb) of at least 20 µg/g were referred for further investigation, usually colonoscopy. Truncated regression models were used to explore the relationship between bowel pathology and FIT results. Regression results were applied to estimate sensitivity to different abnormalities for a number of thresholds.

    Participants with CRC and HRA had significantly higher f-Hb, and this remained unchanged after adjusting for age and sex. While a threshold of 20 μg/g was estimated to capture 82.2% of CRC and 64.0% of HRA, this would refer 7.8% of participants for colonoscopy. The current programme threshold used in England of 120 μg/g was estimated to identify 47.8% of CRC and 25.0% of HRA.

Knowing whether there are systematic predictors of missing a report is critical for understanding the extent to which missing data threatens the validity of inferences from ESM studies. Here, 228 university students completed up to four ESM reports per day while wearing the Electronically Activated Recorder (EAR)-an unobtrusive audio recording device-for a week. These audio recordings provided an alternative source of information about what participants were doing when they missed or completed reports (3,678 observations). We predicted missing ESM reports from 46 variables coded from the EAR recordings, and found very little evidence that missing an ESM report was correlated with constructs typically of interest to ESM researchers. This study aimed to identify adherence level among outpatients at district clinics in Vietnam. Interventions are needed to improve adherence and to enhance MMT programmes in Vietnam.Objective. Literature confirms that many physiotherapists suffer from work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), but studies mention different, complementary and contradictory findings regarding risk factors. This scoping review aimed at revealing the most frequently examined and contributory WMSD factors mentioned in recent studies about physiotherapists. Methods. Based on specific inclusion/exclusion and appraisal criteria, 11 studies published between 2012 and 2018 were included in the analysis. The factors recorded per publication were grouped into 18 categories, the frequency of their appearance across the sources was counted and the median ranks of their relative reported contribution were calculated. Polysaccharides are widely distributed in nature Some, such as peptidoglycan and cellulose, are the components that make up the cell walls of bacteria and plants, and some, such as starch and glycogen, are used as carbohydrate storage in plants and animals. Fungi exist in a variety of natural environments and can exploit a wide range of carbon sources. They play a crucial role in the global carbon cycle because of their ability to break down plant biomass, which is composed primarily of cell wall polysaccharides, including cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectin. Fungi produce a variety of enzymes that in combination degrade cell wall polysaccharides into different monosaccharides. Starch, the main component of grain, is also a polysaccharide that can be broken down into monosaccharides by fungi. These monosaccharides can be used for energy or as precursors for the biosynthesis of biomolecules through a series of enzymatic reactions. Industrial fermentation by microbes has been widely used to produce traditional foods, beverages, and biofuels from starch and to a lesser extent plant biomass. This review focuses on the degradation and utilization of plant homopolysaccharides, cellulose and starch; summarizes the activities of the enzymes involved and the regulation of the induction of the enzymes in well-studied filamentous fungi.The safety and genetic stability of V4020, a novel Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus (VEEV) vaccine based on the investigational VEEV TC-83 strain, was evaluated in ****. Starting from a powerful analogy with critical phenomena, we construct a density field representation that removes fast fluctuations and provides a consistent characterization of the domain growth. Our results indicate that the coarsening kinetics presents a scaling behaviour that is independent of the solvent quality parameter, in analogy to the time-temperature superposition principle. Interestingly, the domain growth in time follows a power-law behaviour that is approximately independent of the architecture for all the flexible systems; while it is steeper for the semiflexible chains. Nevertheless, the fractal nature of the dense regions emerging during the collapse exhibits the same scaling behaviour for all the macromolecules. This suggests that the faster growing length scale in the semiflexible chains originates just from a faster mass diffusion along the chain contour, induced by the local stiffness. More serious and vision-threatening complications as thrombotic events in the eyes have been repeatedly reported as well. These ocular symptoms may precede more serious extraocular complications. Accordingly, combined ophthalmological and haematological management have the potential to discover these diseases earlier and prevent morbidity and mortality in these patients. In this cross-sectional study, 16,837 children aged 6-12 years were recruited from Guangzhou, China. Participants' information on physician-diagnosed asthma was collected from parents, and data on physical activity, screen time, and sleeping were reported in a validated questionnaire. Height and weight were objectively measured, and weight status was classified by body mass index (BMI). Multiple logistic regression analysis and mediation analysis were used. Results showed that asthmatic children were at significantly higher risk of obesity (odds ratio (OR) 1.51, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.

    Secondary use of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has mostly focused on health conditions (diseases and drugs). Function is an important health indicator in addition to morbidity and mortality. Nevertheless, function has been overlooked in accessing patients' health status. The World Health Organization (WHO)'s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is considered the international standard for describing and coding function and health states. We pioneer the first comprehensive analysis and identification of functioning concepts in the Mobility domain of the ICF.

    Using physical therapy notes at the National Institutes of Health's Clinical Center, we induced a hierarchical order of mobility-related entities including 5 entities types, 3 relations, 8 attributes, and 33 attribute values. Two domain experts manually curated a gold standard corpus of 14,281 nested entity mentions from 400 clinical notes. Inter-annotator agreement (IAA) of exact matching averaged 92.3 % F1-scoreimilar fashion.
    The data quality of electronic health records (EHR) has been a topic of increasing interest to clinical and health services researchers. One indicator of possible errors in data is a large change in the frequency of observations in chronic illnesses. In this study, we built and demonstrated the utility of a stacked multivariate LSTM model to predict an acceptable range for the frequency of observations.

    We applied the LSTM approach to a large EHR dataset with over 400 million total encounters. We computed sensitivity and specificity for predicting if the frequency of an observation in a given week is an aberrant signal.

    Compared with the simple frequency monitoring approach, our proposed multivariate LSTM approach increased the sensitivity of finding aberrant signals in 6 randomly selected diagnostic codes from 75 to 88% and the specificity from 68 to 91%. We also experimented with two different LSTM algorithms, namely, direct multi-step and recursive multi-step. Both models were able to detect the aberrant signals while the recursive multi-step algorithm performed better.

    Simply monitoring the frequency trend, as is the common practice in systems that do monitor the data quality, would not be able to distinguish between the fluctuations caused by seasonal disease changes, seasonal patient visits, or a change in data sources. Our study demonstrated the ability of stacked multivariate LSTM models to recognize true data quality issues rather than fluctuations that are caused by different reasons, including seasonal changes and outbreaks.

However, little is known about the identity of foam-stabilising microorganisms in AD systems, and control measures are lacking. This study identified putative foam forming microorganisms in 13 full-scale mesophilic digesters located at 11 wastewater treatment plants in Denmark, using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing with species-level resolution and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for visualization. A foaming potential aeration test was applied to classify the digester sludges according to their foaming propensity. A high foaming potential for sludges was linked to the abundance of species from the genus Candidatus Microthrix, immigrating with the feed stream (surplus activated sludge), but also to several novel phylotypes potentially growing in the digester. These species were classified to the genera Ca. Brevefilum (Ca. B. fermentans) and Tetrasphaera (midas_s_5), the families ST-12K33 (midas_s_22), and Rikenellaceae (midas_s_141), and the archaeal genus Methanospirillum (midas_s_2576). Application of FISH showed that these potential foam-forming organisms all had a filamentous morphology. Additionally, it was shown that concentrations of ammonium and total nitrogen correlated strongly to the presence of foam-formers. This study provided new insight into the identity of putative foam-forming microorganisms in mesophilic AD systems, allowing for the subsequent surveillance of their abundances and studies of their ecology. Such information will importantly inform the development of control measures for these problematic microorganisms.
