  • The emerging torque teno virus (TTV) has been identified as a biohazard marker of anthropocentric pollution and contamination in drinking water, natural water and wastewater systems (DWNWWS). Therefore, this study aimed at assessing prevalence of TTV in DWNWWS. The study systematically identified and meta-analyzed published studies on TTV prevalence in DWNWWS hosted in Dimensions, Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases using a random-effects model and mixed-effects meta-regression model for sensitivity analysis. In this review, we critically discuss the current state of the knowledge and aim to interconnect the complex processes that control the fate and transport of PFASs in the vadose zone. Furthermore, we identify key challenges and future research needs. Sulfur (S) is one of the important soil nutrients, and it plays an important role in the nutrient cycle of grassland ecosystem. However, the impacts of S on soil fauna and subsurface detrital food webs in grassland ecosystems were rarely studied. Accordingly, to investigate the effects of sulfur deposition on soil nematodes and detrital food webs, we conducted a S addition experiment with distinct intensities from 0 to 50 g S m-2 yr-1 (S 0, S 1, S 2, S 5, S 10, S 15, S 20, and S 50) to simulated sulfur deposition in a meadow steppe of northern China. We documented a significant effect of S addition on the diversity and richness of nematodes, and the species richness of soil nematodes was high in the study site. But S addition had no significant effect on the total abundance and dominant species of nematodes (Cervidellus and Aphelenchus). Results of correlation analysis and structural equation modeling consistently indicated that omnivores-predators were significantly affected by sulfur addition. A significant increase in the Structural Index (which indicates food web structure) suggested increased top-down forces and changed community structure, although bacterivores, fungivores, plant parasites did not significantly. The present results suggest that sulfur deposition would change the composition of nematode community, affect the stability of nematode community structure, and increase the disturbance to the underground ecosystem. The study provides that the detailed information of the response of nematode to S deposition can be used to analyze the process of global change affecting the underground ecosystem.

It was originally found to bind to GPCRs, uncoupling G proteins and receptors' binding and inhibiting the signal transduction of the GPCRs. This paper reviews the structure and function of β-arrestin2, the regulation of β-arrestin2 based signaling pathways. The role and mechanism of β-arrestin2 signaling have been delineated in sufficient detail. Aiming to discover new biologically active natural compounds, the marine sponge Aplysina fulva, a nitrogen-bearing heterocyst producer, was investigated. The main isolated compounds (4, 6, and 9) were evaluated on adult zebrafish (Danio rerio). A group of fishes (n = 6) was preliminarily subjected to acute toxicity, and open field tests using 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/mL (v. o.) of those compounds was performed. The anxiolytic effect was further investigated in the light/dark assay based on the locomotor response at zebrafish. Interactions through the GABAergic system were investigated using flumazenil, a silent modulator of GABA receptors. To improve the results, a study of molecular docking using the GABAA receptor also was performed. Recent data further provides the molecular details of a stepwise activation mechanism, which is initiated by Ca2+ binding and modulated by various cellular factors, including lipids. TMEM16 function and the surrounding membrane properties are inextricably intertwined, with the protein inducing bilayer deformations associated with scrambling, while the surrounding lipids modulate TMEM16 conformation and activity.Genome-wide protein-protein interaction (PPI) determination remains a significant unsolved problem in structural biology. The difficulty is twofold since high-throughput experiments (HTEs) have often a relatively high false-positive rate in assigning PPIs, and PPI quaternary structures are more difficult to solve than tertiary structures using traditional structural biology techniques. We proposed a uniform pipeline, Threpp, to address both problems.   • The development of competence among student nurses is important to nurse educators, nursing regulatory bodies, employers and patients. Several teaching and learning strategies support the development of competence among student nurses, but the level of competence at the point of graduation remains below expected standards. Therefore, more research is needed to find strategies that can enhance the development of competence among students. The study explored students' conceptions of competence and the learning processes that support the development of competence in nursing practice. Gaining an understanding of learning and competence from the student's perspective can improve our current understanding of the development of competence. Utilising a phenomenographic approach, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were conducted among purposively sampled groups of nursing students. Once in aquatic environments caffeine interacts directly with the periphytic community, which is responsible for a significant part of primary production in aquatic ecosystems. However, the effects of exposure to caffeine are mostly unknown for both the periphyton and their predators. Aiming to comprehend the interaction between caffeine and the periphytic community, ecotoxicological experiments were performed by exposing a periphytic biofilm cultivated in the laboratory to different concentrations of caffeine, following concentrations found in domestic sewers. The impact of exposure to this contaminant was observed on the structure of the community through taxonomic evaluation, as well a set of physiological variables linked to primary production. After exposure to the highest caffeine concentration (300 µg L-1), the density of the genus Scenedesmus was severely affected, leading to an increase in cyanobacteria and diatoms. SVM classifier presented 93% of AUC and 86% of sensitivity for sequences with contrast medium. Texture analysis and machine learning may be helpful in the differentiation between malign and benign lymph nodes.
    The development of competence among student nurses is important to nurse educators, nursing regulatory bodies, employers and patients. Several teaching and learning strategies support the development of competence among student nurses, but the level of competence at the point of graduation remains below expected standards. Therefore, more research is needed to find strategies that can enhance the development of competence among students. The study explored students' conceptions of competence and the learning processes that support the development of competence in nursing practice. Gaining an understanding of learning and competence from the student's perspective can improve our current understanding of the development of competence. Utilising a phenomenographic approach, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were conducted among purposively sampled groups of nursing students. However, the effects of exposure to caffeine are mostly unknown for both the periphyton and their predators. Aiming to comprehend the interaction between caffeine and the periphytic community, ecotoxicological experiments were performed by exposing a periphytic biofilm cultivated in the laboratory to different concentrations of caffeine, following concentrations found in domestic sewers. The impact of exposure to this contaminant was observed on the structure of the community through taxonomic evaluation, as well a set of physiological variables linked to primary production. After exposure to the highest caffeine concentration (300 µg L-1), the density of the genus Scenedesmus was severely affected, leading to an increase in cyanobacteria and diatoms.   • Colletotrichum orbiculare, an anthracnose disease fungus of cucurbit plants, extends penetration hyphae inside the epidermal cells of host plants. Unlike vegetative hyphae formed on a nutrient rich medium, this pathogen initially develops biotrophic penetration hyphae, which acquire nutrient resources from living host cells and secret effector proteins to suppress host defense responses. Subsequently, the nature of penetration hyphae changes from biotrophy to necrotrophy in response to the interaction with a host plant. Hence, controlling the extension of penetration hyphae is crucial for C. orbiculare infection. Here, we identified CoGRIM19 encoding Nadh-ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit as a pathogenicity gene. Pathogenicity assays showed that the cogrim19 mutant caused no visible symptoms on cucumber cotyledons. Microscopic observations revealed that the cogrim19 mutant developed an appressorium and penetration hyphae under artificial conditions such as on coverslips or cellulose membranes, but the penetration hyphae of the mutant were retarded in the cucumber cotyledons. Microscopic observations of biotrophy-specific expression fluorescent signals revealed that the biotrophic stage was maintained in the retarded penetration hyphae of the cogrim19 mutant as the penetration of the wild type. Discovery and characterization of highly efficient PUR-degrading microbes and enzymes capable of disassembling PUR polymer chains into oligo- and monomeric compounds is of fundamental importance for a circular plastic economy.

  • Segmentation of the left ventricular (LV) myocardium (Myo) and RV endocardium on cine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images represents an essential step for cardiac-function evaluation and diagnosis. In order to have a common reference for comparing segmentation algorithms, several CMR image datasets were made available, but in general they do not include the most apical and basal slices, and/or gold standard tracing is limited to only one of the two ventricles, thus not fully corresponding to real clinical practice. Our aim was to develop a deep learning (DL) approach for automated segmentation of both RV and LV chambers from short-axis (SAX) CMR images, reporting separately the performance for basal slices, together with the applied criterion of choice.

    A retrospectively selected database (DB1) of 210 cine sequences (3 pathology groups) was considered images (GE, 1.5 T) were acquired at Centro Cardiologico Monzino (Milan, Italy), and end-diastolic (ED) and end-systolic frames (ES) were manually segmenation and the advantages of dense skip connections in alleviating the semantic gap generated when high level features are concatenated with lower level feature. The evaluation on our dataset, considering separately the performance on basal and apical slices, reveals the potential of DL approaches for fast, accurate and reliable automated cardiac segmentation in a real clinical setting.
    Chronic neck pain is a leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting the lives of millions of people. Research investigating functional brain alterations in relation to somatosensory function is necessary to better understand mechanisms underlying pain development and maintenance in individuals with chronic neck pain, yet remains scarce. This case-control study aimed to examine resting-state functional connectivity alterations and associations with pain outcomes, self-reported central sensitization-related symptoms and quantitative sensory testing (QST) measures in patients with chronic non-traumatic (idiopathic/CINP) neck pain and chronic traumatic (whiplash associated/CWAD) neck pain compared to pain-free controls.

    Thirty youth aged 10-18years with chronic headaches and 30 age- and sex-matched controls underwent a 3T MRI scan. Volumes of the hippocampus and amygdala were obtained from T1-weighted images. Mean fractional anisotropy (FA, an index of white matter structure) axial and radial diffusivity values of the cingulum and uncinate fasciculus were extracted from diffusion-weighted images. Youth reported on their headaches daily, for one-month, and self-reported pubertal status, emotion regulation, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and PTSS using validated measures.     Early life adversity is suspected to play an important role for onset and course of psychosis, but its relationship with longer-term clinical outcome is not entirely clear. In this longitudinal study, we investigated the impact of childhood trauma (CT) on positive and negative symptom remission in first episode psychosis (FEP) patients over two years.

    A total of 210 FEP patients were assessed with the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Patients reporting moderate to severe trauma (CT; N = 114; 54.3%) were compared to those without trauma (N-CT; N = 96; 45.7%). Positive (PSR) and negative symptom remission (NSR) were determined monthly over 24 months following established criteria using the Scale for Assessment of Positive Symptoms and the Scale for Assessment of Negative Symptoms.     Segmentation of the left ventricular (LV) myocardium (Myo) and RV endocardium on cine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images represents an essential step for cardiac-function evaluation and diagnosis. In order to have a common reference for comparing segmentation algorithms, several CMR image datasets were made available, but in general they do not include the most apical and basal slices, and/or gold standard tracing is limited to only one of the two ventricles, thus not fully corresponding to real clinical practice. Our aim was to develop a deep learning (DL) approach for automated segmentation of both RV and LV chambers from short-axis (SAX) CMR images, reporting separately the performance for basal slices, together with the applied criterion of choice. Evidence from neurodegenerative diseases and multiple sclerosis suggests that neuroinflammation is correlated with brain iron accumulation, making quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) a potential hallmark for neuroinflammation in vivo. This study assessed susceptibility values of the thalamus and basal ganglia in (NP)SLE patients and further investigated the in vivo findings with histological analyses of postmortem brain tissue derived from SLE patients. In some surveys, cannabis users reported that they use less when using more potent products, but in other surveys, persons who used more potent cannabis had more adverse effects of use. Discussion There is some evidence from experimental studies that people who use higher potency cannabis for recreational purposes can titrate their THC doses, but less evidence that regular cannabis users do in fact do so. We found that the EEA factor was significantly reduced in all three disorders, and that it correlated with an overall severity score for psychopathology as well as self-report measures of impulsivity. Although EEA was significantly correlated with general intelligence, it remained associated with psychopathology and symptom scales even after controlling for intelligence scores. We present a case of an 11-year-old girl referred to child psychiatry-liaison service by her neurologist due to peer relationship problems and sadness. Fifteen days before her first psychiatric consultation, her father suffered a myocardial infarction complicated with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, and he was hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Positive coping mechanisms and adaptive emotional expression strategies were explored during her consultations. Her father died nd clinicians. COVID-19 pandemic policies should include mental health protection measures, which should facilitate adjusted grief responses for those who lose a loved one during this pandemic.Objective The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the impulse inhibition ability with methamphetamine dependents would vary at different abstinence stages. Methods Sixty-three methamphetamine dependents, including 31 short-term ( 0.05). Further regression analyses confirmed that the abstinence duration positively predicted impulse inhibition of methamphetamine dependents, both in accuracy and RT for deviant stimulus (β = 0.294, p = 0.019; β = 0.337, p = 0.007). Methods Using a randomized double-blind, sham-controlled trial, 30 healthy volunteers received either iTBS or a sham treatment targeting the left DorsoLateral PreFrontal Cortex (L-DLPFC), twice a day over 5 consecutive days. Cortical excitability was measured before and after the 5 days of stimulation. Results No difference in cortical excitability was observed between active or sham iTBS. Conclusion Our study does not support any effect on cortical excitability of repetitive iTBS targeting the L-DLPFC.

    Twenty-two patients who underwent French-door laminoplasty for multilevel degenerative cervical myelopathy were followed up for 12 months. The Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores were assessed preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. Maximum spinal cord compression and compression rates were measured and calculated using both intraoperative ultrasound imaging and preoperative T2-weight (T2W) MRI. Signal change rates of the spinal cord on preoperative T2W MRI and gray value ratios of dorsal and ventral spinal cord hyperechogenicity on intraoperative ultrasound imaging were measured and calculated. Correlations between intraoperative ultrasound metrics, MRI metrics, and the recovery rate JOA scores were analyzed using Spearman correlation arechogenicity and dorsal and ventral spinal cord hyperechogenicity were significantly correlated with neurological recovery at 12 months postoperatively.

    This study aimed to demonstrate the differences in direct CPS provided by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists for patients and physicians, and to assess the potential impact of these services on medical costs.

    We retrospectively examined CPS provided by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists for outpatients who underwent chemotherapy between January and December 2016.

    In total, 1177 and 1050 CPS provided by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists, respectively, were investigated. The rates of interventions performed by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists for physicians-determined treatment were 18.5% and 11.3%, respectively (p < .001). The rates of oncology and non-oncology pharmacist interventions accepted by physicians were 84.6 and 78.8%, respectively (p = .12). Level 4 and Level 5 interventions accounted for 64.6% of all oncology pharmacist interventions and 53.0% of all non-oncology pharmacist interventions (p = .03). The rates of improvement in symptoms from adverse drug reactions among patients resulting from interventions by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists were 89.4 and 72.1%, respectively (p = .02). Conservative assessments of medical cost impact showed that a single intervention by an oncology and by a non-oncology pharmacist saved ¥6355 and ¥3604, respectively.

    Multidisciplinary tumor board meetings (MDTs) have shown a positive effect on patient care and play a role in the planning of care. However, there is limited evidence of the association between MDTs and patient mortality and in-hospital morbidity for mixed cases of gastrointestinal (GI) cancer.

    To evaluate the influence of optional MDTs on care of patients with cancer to determine potential associations between MDTs and patient mortality and morbidity.

    This was a retrospective observational study at the referral center of King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Twenty-two patients who underwent French-door laminoplasty for multilevel degenerative cervical myelopathy were followed up for 12 months. The Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores were assessed preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. Maximum spinal cord compression and compression rates were measured and calculated using both intraoperative ultrasound imaging and preoperative T2-weight (T2W) MRI. Signal change rates of the spinal cord on preoperative T2W MRI and gray value ratios of dorsal and ventral spinal cord hyperechogenicity on intraoperative ultrasound imaging were measured and calculated. Correlations between intraoperative ultrasound metrics, MRI metrics, and the recovery rate JOA scores were analyzed using Spearman correlation arechogenicity and dorsal and ventral spinal cord hyperechogenicity were significantly correlated with neurological recovery at 12 months postoperatively. This study aimed to demonstrate the differences in direct CPS provided by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists for patients and physicians, and to assess the potential impact of these services on medical costs. We retrospectively examined CPS provided by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists for outpatients who underwent chemotherapy between January and December 2016. In total, 1177 and 1050 CPS provided by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists, respectively, were investigated. The rates of interventions performed by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists for physicians-determined treatment were 18.5% and 11.3%, respectively (p < .001). The rates of oncology and non-oncology pharmacist interventions accepted by physicians were 84.6 and 78.8%, respectively (p = .12). Level 4 and Level 5 interventions accounted for 64.6% of all oncology pharmacist interventions and 53.0% of all non-oncology pharmacist interventions (p = .03). The rates of improvement in symptoms from adverse drug reactions among patients resulting from interventions by oncology and non-oncology pharmacists were 89.4 and 72.1%, respectively (p = .02). Conservative assessments of medical cost impact showed that a single intervention by an oncology and by a non-oncology pharmacist saved ¥6355 and ¥3604, respectively. To evaluate the influence of optional MDTs on care of patients with cancer to determine potential associations between MDTs and patient mortality and morbidity. In addition, a phylogenetic analysis of whiteflies and their endosymbionts was performed. The only facultative endosymbionts found among the B. tabaci populations collected in Florida were Hamiltonella and Rickettsia. The phylogenetic analysis revealed the low genetic diversity of whiteflies and their endosymbionts. Additionally, the phylogenetic tree clustered Rickettsia from Florida in the R1 genetic group. Correlating the results obtained from XPS and TEM analyses with catalytic results, we found that the amount of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) influences mean Pd NPs size, Pd(0)/Pd(II) ratio, and Pd surface exposure. Pd(0)/Pd(II) ratio and Pd NPs size affected adipic acid yield and activity during sodium muconate hydrogenation, respectively, while adipic acid yield was related by exposed Pd amount during t,t-muconic acid hydrogenation. The mechanisms responsible for both innate and acquired AMR are thoroughly investigated. Commonly, AMR traits are included in mobilizable genetic elements enabling the homogeneous diffusion of the AMR traits pool between the ecosystems of diverse sectors, such as human medicine, veterinary medicine, and the environment. Here, ABCG2-dependent stem-like side population cells, which are thought to be liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs), were present in HCC cells, and the fraction of this subset was increased in HBx-expressing HCC cells. In addition, glycolysis was upregulated in LCSCs and HBx-expressing HCC cells, and intervention of glycolysis attenuated cancer stem-like phenotypes. Mitochondria play an important role in the maintenance of energy homeostasis, BNIP3L-dependent mitophagy was also activated in LCSCs and HBx-expressing HCC cells, which triggered a metabolic shift toward glycolysis.
