With the development of information technology, an increasing number of healthcare professionals are using smartphones and mobile medical applications (apps) in their clinical practice. The objective of this study was to survey the use of smartphone-based medical apps among dentists in China and determine dentists' perceptions of such apps.
All data were collected using anonymous questionnaires. The questionnaires for this cross-sectional study were randomly sent to dentists by email, and 379 dentists responded. Active participation in group assignments is an invaluable way to realize collaborative learning; however, there are several challenges attributed to the traditional way of doing group assignments. This study explores the synergistic effects of flipped classrooms and a wiki-authoring group activity on students' learning outcomes and the quality and quantity of their group-work.
In this action research, 205 master students of a medical school were involved in a course blended with flipped classrooms. While learning from online and in-class activities, students did their group assignment on an educational wiki (n = 85) or in a conventional way (n = 120). Assessment in this study was done in both formative and summative ways. Formative assessment included quizzes at the beginning of each class and students' self-assessment (focused on their satisfaction with different educational activities of the course, using an 11-item validated satisfaction questionnaire). The summative assessment incorporated assessmentaction with flipped classrooms.
The findings of this study confirm that a wiki-authoring group assignment is effective in achieving student learning outcomes and integrating a wiki with flipped classrooms increases wiki accomplishment. Collaborating on a wiki activity improves both quality and quantity of group assignments among students.

Computerized provider order entry (CPOE) can help providers deliver better quality care. We aimed to understand recent trends in use of CPOE by health system-affiliated ambulatory clinics.
We analyzed longitudinal data (2014-2016) for 19,109 ambulatory clinics that participated in all 3 years of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Analytics survey to assess use of CPOE and identify characteristics of clinics associated with CPOE use. We calculated descriptive statistics to examine overall trends in use, location of order entry (bedside vs. clinical station), and system-level use CPOE across all clinics. We used linear probability models to explore the association between clinic characteristics (practice size, practice type, and health system type) and two outcomes of interest CPOE use at any point between 2014 and 2016, and CPOE use beginning in 2015 or 2016.
Between 2014 and 2016, use of CPOE increased more than 9 percentage points from 58 to 67%. Larger clinics and those affiliated with multi-hospital health systems were more likely to have reported use of CPOE. We found no difference in CPOE use by primary care versus specialty care clinics. When used, most clinics reported using CPOE for most or all of their orders. Health systems that used CPOE usually did so for all system-affiliated clinics.
Small practice size or not being part of a multi-hospital system are associated with lower use of CPOE between 2014 and 2016. Less than optimal use in these environments may be harming patient outcomes.

We aimed to explore the utility of prostate specific antigen (PSA) isoform [- 2] proPSA and its derivatives for prediction of pathological outcome after radical prostatectomy (RP).
Preoperative blood samples were prospectively and consecutivelyanalyzed from 472 patients treated with RP for clinically localized prostate cancerat four medical centers. Measured parameters were PSA, free PSA (fPSA), fPSA/PSA ratio, [- 2] proPSA (p2PSA), p2PSA/fPSA ratio and Prostate Health Index (PHI)(p2PSA/fPSA)*√PSA]. Logistic regression models were fitted to determine the accuracy of markers for prediction of pathological Gleason score (GS) ≥7, Gleason score upgrading, extracapsular extension of the tumor (pT3) and the presence of positive surgical margin (PSM). The accuracy of predictive models was compared using area under the receiver operating curve (AUC).
Of 472 patients undergoing RP, 339 (72%) were found to have pathologic GS ≥ 7, out of them 178 (53%) experienced an upgrade from their preoperative GS = 6. The findings of pT3 and PSM were present in 132 (28%) and 133 (28%) cases, respectively.

The molecular signatures of cells in the brain have been revealed in unprecedented detail, yet the ageing-associated genome-wide expression changes that may contribute to neurovascular dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases remain elusive. Here, we report zonation-dependent transcriptomic changes in aged mouse brain endothelial cells (ECs), which prominently implicate altered immune/cytokine signaling in ECs of all vascular segments, and functional changes impacting the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and glucose/energy metabolism especially in capillary ECs (capECs). An overrepresentation of Alzheimer disease (AD) GWAS genes is evident among the human orthologs of the differentially expressed genes of aged capECs, while comparative analysis revealed a subset of concordantly downregulated, functionally important genes in human AD brains. Treatment with exenatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, strongly reverses aged mouse brain EC transcriptomic changes and BBB leakage, with associated attenuation of microglial priming. We thus revealed transcriptomic alterations underlying brain EC ageing that are complex yet pharmacologically reversible.On present-day Earth, dust emissions are restricted only to a few desert regions mainly due to the distribution of land vegetation. The atmospheric dust loading is thus relatively small and has a slight cooling effect on the surface climate. For the Precambrian (before ~540 Ma), however, dust emission might be **** more widespread since land vegetation was absent. Here, our simulations using an Earth system model (CESM1.2.2) demonstrate that the global dust emission during that time might be an order of magnitude larger than that of the present day, and could have cooled the global climate by ~10 °C. Similarly, the dust deposition in the ocean, an important source of nutrition for the marine ecosystem, was also increased by a factor of ~10. Further, our results solve a prior controversy by revealing the soft-mode mechanism of the phase transition that impacts thermal transport and thermoelectric efficiency. Our simulations of anharmonic phonon renormalization go beyond low-order perturbation theory and capture these striking effects, showing that the large phonon shifts directly affect the thermal conductivity by altering both the phonon scattering phase space and the group velocities. These results provide a detailed microscopic understanding of phase stability and thermal transport in technologically important materials, providing further insights on ways to control phonon propagation in thermoelectrics, photovoltaics, and other materials requiring thermal management.Although machine learning (ML) models promise to substantially accelerate the discovery of novel materials, their performance is often still insufficient to draw reliable conclusions. Improved ML models are therefore actively researched, but their design is currently guided mainly by monitoring the average model test error. This can render different models indistinguishable although their performance differs substantially across materials, or it can make a model appear generally insufficient while it actually works well in specific sub-domains. Here, we present a method, based on subgroup discovery, for detecting domains of applicability (DA) of models within a materials class. The utility of this approach is demonstrated by analyzing three state-of-the-art ML models for predicting the formation energy of transparent conducting oxides. We find that, despite having a mutually indistinguishable and unsatisfactory average error, the models have DAs with distinctive features and notably improved performance.Previous studies on the phase behaviour of multicomponent lipid bilayers found an intricate interplay between membrane geometry and its composition, but a fundamental understanding of curvature-induced effects remains elusive. Thanks to a combination of experiments on lipid vesicles supported by colloidal scaffolds and theoretical work, we demonstrate that the local geometry and global chemical composition of the bilayer determine both the spatial arrangement and the amount of mixing of the lipids. In the mixed phase, a strong geometrical anisotropy can give rise to an antimixed state, where the lipids are mixed, but their relative concentration varies across the membrane. After phase separation, the bilayer organizes in multiple lipid domains, whose location is pinned in specific regions, depending on the substrate curvature and the bending rigidity of the lipid domains. Our results provide critical insights into the phase separation of cellular membranes and, more generally, two-dimensional fluids on curved substrates.

Hysterectomy is associated with a high incidence of chronic post-hysterectomy pain (CPHP). Pain catastrophizing, a negative cognitive-affective response to pain, is associated with various pain disorders but its role in CPHP is unclear. We aimed to determine the association of high preoperative pain catastrophizing with CPHP development and functional impairment 4 months after surgery.
Secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study of women undergoing abdominal/laparoscopic hysterectomy to investigate the association between high pain catastrophizing (pain catastrophizing scale, PCS≥20) with CPHP and associated functional impairment (defined as impairment with standing for ≥30 minutes, sitting for ≥30 minutes, or walking up or down stairs). CPHP and functional impairment were assessed via 4- and 6-month phone surveys.
Of 216 patients, 72 (33.3%) had high PCS, with mean (SD) of 30.0 (7.9). In contrast, 144 (66.7%) patients had low PCS, with mean (SD) of 9.0 (4.7). At 4 months, 26/63 (41.3%) patients inHP associated factors to formulate a risk-prediction model and investigate the effectiveness of early intervention for pain catastrophizers in improving pain-related outcomes.
Adverse outcomes and mortality associated with STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) are associated with the management and diagnosis time. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcomes of prehospital diagnosis of STEMI via emergency medical service (EMS) on mortality, in comparison to the patients who did not receive EMS.
This retrospective study included STEMI patients, who underwent primary angioplasty. The patients were categorized as group A referred without emergency service, group B patients who did not receive PPCI and group C patients referred via ambulance and received telecardiology. Medical records of these patients were evaluated for the diagnosis time, door-to-balloon time, in-hospital, six months, one year and three-year mortality, left ventricular ejection fraction and previous history of cardiovascular conditions and surgeries. The data were recorded and statistically analyzed using SPSS v21.
Of 424 patients studied, 79 were referred without emergency service (group A), 52 patients did not receive PPCI (group B) and 293 patients were referred via ambulance with telecardiology (group C). Door-to-balloon time was least in group C (57.78 min) compared to group A (141.70 min). In-hospital, six months, one year and three-year mortality was least in group C, however, the difference was not statistically significant. The left ventricular ejection fraction was significantly greater in group C.
The results of our study indicate that prehospital diagnosis and telecardiology significantly reduce door-to-balloon time in STEMI patients referred for percutaneous intervention and might have an influence on short-term and long-term mortality rates.

is a tropical plant used as a herbal medicine in various parts of the world, including Thailand. In glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD)-deficient patients, acute hemolysis has been reported following the ingestion of this plant. Methemoglobinemia was reported in the present study.
Descriptive data of patients who suffered from
toxicity reported from different hospitals to the Ramathibodi Poison Center were retrieved from 2011 to 2019.
Eight patients were included, mostly male with a median age of 61.5 years. The plant was ground for fresh juice or boiled before consuming as herbal medicine. All patients presented with dark urine. Most had jaundice and fever, and all reported hemolysis. Seven out of eight patients were diagnosed as methemoglobinemia. Methemoglobin level was confirmed in five patients with the highest level of 23.9%. Early symptoms occurred within 24 hours of the last ingested dose.
In previous case reports of
ingestion, acute hemolysis was mostly observed in G6PD-deficient patients, consistent with the current findings. However, our patients also demonstrated methemoglobinemia, with some constituents in this plant (quinine, 2-methyl anthraquinone and tectoquinone) implicated as the cause in previous studies. Further studies are crucial to validate these findings.
We report a case series in which acute hemolysis and methemoglobinemia after
ingestion were observed. This study presents methemoglobinemia as the other toxicity caused by this plant.

Hysterectomy is associated with a high incidence of chronic post-hysterectomy pain (CPHP). Pain catastrophizing, a negative cognitive-affective response to pain, is associated with various pain disorders but its role in CPHP is unclear. We aimed to determine the association of high preoperative pain catastrophizing with CPHP development and functional impairment 4 months after surgery. Secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study of women undergoing abdominal/laparoscopic hysterectomy to investigate the association between high pain catastrophizing (pain catastrophizing scale, PCS≥20) with CPHP and associated functional impairment (defined as impairment with standing for ≥30 minutes, sitting for ≥30 minutes, or walking up or down stairs). CPHP and functional impairment were assessed via 4- and 6-month phone surveys. Of 216 patients, 72 (33.3%) had high PCS, with mean (SD) of 30.0 (7.9). Descriptive data of patients who suffered from toxicity reported from different hospitals to the Ramathibodi Poison Center were retrieved from 2011 to 2019. Eight patients were included, mostly male with a median age of 61.5 years. The plant was ground for fresh juice or boiled before consuming as herbal medicine. All patients presented with dark urine. Most had jaundice and fever, and all reported hemolysis. Seven out of eight patients were diagnosed as methemoglobinemia. The COVID-19 pandemic has overwhelmed hospitals all over the world. To reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and meet the increasing mental health demands due to this trauma, psychiatry outpatient services have gone online in various countries. We describe steps taken at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, to start these services during this pandemic. We also discuss the obstacles faced. A mobilities perspective allows analysis to extend our view of migration beyond frameworks confined to pre- and postmigration, examining trajectories of social inclusion and exclusion that are influenced by multiple factors in the receiving country. The Immigrant Well-being Project, a community-based participatory research project involving university faculty, students, staff, and representatives from 4 community-based organizations (CBOs), was initiated in New Mexico in 2017 to better understand and promote Latinx/@ immigrant mental health and integration by creating change at multiple levels. We began these efforts by conducting an in-depth study of the mental health needs, stressors, current socioeconomic, legal, and political context, and local solutions as experienced by 24 Latinx/@ immigrants and their mixed status families. Five trajectories of immigrant integration emerged continuous exclusion, simultaneous exclusion and inclusion, continuous inclusion, movement from exclusion to inclusion, and movement from inclusion to exclusion. These diverse mobilities were shaped by participants' social locations, agency, and experiences with CBOs, which played critical roles in creating, maintaining, and/or transforming immigrants' trajectories. However, CBOs could not completely buffer immigrants from the current hostile climate and related stressors that resulted in experiences of exclusion or movement from inclusion to exclusion. These findings add to understandings of immigrant mental health, complex ongoing mobility, and mechanisms of resilience and resistance within the United States and have important implications for policy and practice. The aim of the current study was to examine differences in emotional states between being at home and being in the community, and between being alone and being with others. Few studies to date, however, have examined the extent to which these findings are due to differences in measurement properties of existing PTSD scales. This study examined measurement equivalence across race/ethnicity in the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) by testing for differential item functioning (DIF) in the item response theory (IRT) framework. Participants were 506 trauma-exposed women (M = 39.41 years, SD = 8.94) who participated in the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network Women and Trauma Study. PTSD severity score estimates were improved upon as part of IRT estimation incorporating symptom "weights" (i.e., factor loadings) and group-specific DIF. Six symptoms from the CAPS showed DIF, with the majority of differences in measurement driven by White/African American and White/Latina differences, particularly for (a) avoidance of thoughts and (b) a sense of foreshortened future. Despite both racial/ethnic minority groups being slightly (not significantly) more likely to receive a PTSD diagnosis, African Americans (p = .014; Cohen's d = -.22) and Latinas (p less then .001; d = -.73) had significantly lower PTSD severity scores than Whites as estimated under IRT with group-specific DIF. Examination of PTSD severity scores based on symptom counts revealed these differences were either dampened (White/Latina difference d = -.39) or entirely negated (White/African American difference d = -.08). The findings suggest the importance of considering differences in symptom relevance across race/ethnicity and their impact on capturing symptom severity parallel to diagnostic criteria. This article reviews selected studies that linked neighborhood factors to specific domains of child and family well-being parenting, safety, health, and educational outcomes. By focusing on neighborliness, a particular form of neighboring, the study aims to shift the focus from macrolevel indicators of neighborhood context, to a more dynamic set of attributes that characterize neighborhood life, with the hope of inspiring others to build upon the findings and begin to translate the conclusions to meaningful policies and programs. The aim of the current study was to examine differences in emotional states between being at home and being in the community, and between being alone and being with others. Participants were at home 70.6% of the time and alone 58.6% of the time. There was no significant interaction effect between being at home and being alone on any emotional states. Being in the community and being with others contributed to more favorable emotional states among individuals with serious mental illnesses. Few studies to date, however, have examined the extent to which these findings are due to differences in measurement properties of existing PTSD scales. This study examined measurement equivalence across race/ethnicity in the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) by testing for differential item functioning (DIF) in the item response theory (IRT) framework. Participants were 506 trauma-exposed women (M = 39.41 years, SD = 8.94) who participated in the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network Women and Trauma Study. PTSD severity score estimates were improved upon as part of IRT estimation incorporating symptom "weights" (i.e., factor loadings) and group-specific DIF. Six symptoms from the CAPS showed DIF, with the majority of differences in measurement driven by White/African American and White/Latina differences, particularly for (a) avoidance of thoughts and (b) a sense of foreshortened future. Despite both racial/ethnic minority groups being slightly (not significantly) more likely to receive a PTSD diagnosis, African Americans (p = .014; Cohen's d = -.22) and Latinas (p less then .001; d = -.73) had significantly lower PTSD severity scores than Whites as estimated under IRT with group-specific DIF. Examination of PTSD severity scores based on symptom counts revealed these differences were either dampened (White/Latina difference d = -.39) or entirely negated (White/African American difference d = -.08). The findings suggest the importance of considering differences in symptom relevance across race/ethnicity and their impact on capturing symptom severity parallel to diagnostic criteria. In this study eleven specimens of sheep femur bone having age between 1-1.25 years and human femur bone having age between 14 and 81years are used. In the present study, the first technique attempts to estimate the density from the image-based Hounsfield unit which is obtained directly from a computed tomography image. The modulus of elasticity is estimated from density-elasticity relation which is available in the literature. Another technique is used to develop a correlation between computed apparent density and greyscale based coefficient obtained by material mapping method using commercial Simpleware ScanIP software. Estimated mean deviation in apparent mass density and Young's modulus is 4.34% and 4.69% in sheep bone and 4.35% and 4.94% in human bone respectively. It is found that apparent density and Young's modulus obtained shows close agreement with values reported in the literature. Moreover, the study attempts to build up a new material model between human and sheep for orthopaedics clinical trials and research in Indian context. In addition, it is also observed that bone mass density of sheep is 1.60 times human. This method can also be useful to study and analyse biomechanical properties of the human femur bone.
Oral factor Xa inhibitors are known to significantly increase heparin anti-Xa concentrations, which leads to inaccuracies when monitoring intravenous unfractionated heparin (IV UFH). Guidance for managing this laboratory interference is lacking, creating substantial uncertainty in clinical practice.
To describe a strategy used by a large academic institution for managing the controversy of laboratory interference in the setting of oral factor Xa inhibitor use and provide effectiveness and safety data for this approach.
In December 2016, a new Heparin IV Direct Oral Anticoagulant (DOAC) Interference PowerPlan (a comprehensive order set) was made available in the electronic health record (Cerner, North Kansas City, MO) throughout the health system. We retrospectively examined 169 patients with events reported in the error reporting system, RISKMASTER, and evaluated reports with and without the use of the PowerPlan. Effectiveness was determined through evaluation of thrombosis. The Naranjo criteria for causality were applied to assess thrombotic events.
Of 56 events that were reported with apixaban when the PowerPlan was not ordered, 4 (7%) thrombotic events occurred within 7 days of UFH initiation. One out of the 4 events (25%) that occurred when the PowerPlan was not appropriately initiated was considered probable using the Naranjo Scale. Three additional events (75%) were possible using the Naranjo Scale.
The Heparin IV DOAC Interference PowerPlan appears to be conducive to positive patient outcomes when evaluating voluntary reported events and may assist clinicians with managing the therapeutic dilemma of this laboratory interference.

In case of reline, a mixture of choline chloride and urea in 12 ratio, urea molecules provide sufficient hydrogen bond donor sites to take up the chloride anions into their polar network. Replacing any of the hydrogen atoms of urea by a methyl group strongly pushes the anion to interact with these alkyl chains, resulting in a positive deviation of the activity coefficients of choline chloride compared to reline. Furthermore, the oxygen atom of urea can interact with the nitrogen atom of the cation. This enables the chloride anion to move off-center of the cation toward the hydrogen atom of its hydroxyl group, possessing stronger directional Coulomb interactions than the nitrogen atom of the cation. The substitution of urea's hydrogen atoms in cis position to the carbonyl group as in 1,3-dimethylurea, pushes the newly introduced nonpolar alkyl chains toward the nitrogen atom of the cation. This effect can be responsible for the experimentally observed increase of the activity coefficient of the urea derivative compared to urea. The chemical shifts of 31P NMR support the energetics of the base-acid complexes. Three distinct behavior modes were successively observed by a high-speed camera with the increase in electric field strength coalescence, partial coalescence, and noncoalescence. The mechanisms and key criteria of partial coalescence and noncoalescence were explored by studying the competition between electric force and interfacial force. The theoretical formula of critical electric field strength for droplet coalescence was derived and validated by experiments. The results indicated that the electric capillary number Ca can be used as the criterion to identify the behavior modes of two free droplets. The droplets undergo partial coalescence or noncoalescence when Ca > 0.11; otherwise, the droplets experience coalescence.Theories of liquids and their simulation ignore any physical effects of dissolved atmospheric gas. Solubilities appear far too low to matter. Long-standing observations to the contrary, like cavitation, the salt dependence of bubble-bubble interactions, and the stability of degassed emulsions, continue to call that assumption into question, and these questions multiply. We herein explore more unexpected effects of dissolved gas that are inexplicable by classical theory. The theoretical formula of critical electric field strength for droplet coalescence was derived and validated by experiments. The results indicated that the electric capillary number Ca can be used as the criterion to identify the behavior modes of two free droplets. The droplets undergo partial coalescence or noncoalescence when Ca > 0.11; otherwise, the droplets experience coalescence.Theories of liquids and their simulation ignore any physical effects of dissolved atmospheric gas. Solubilities appear far too low to matter. Long-standing observations to the contrary, like cavitation, the salt dependence of bubble-bubble interactions, and the stability of degassed emulsions, continue to call that assumption into question, and these questions multiply. We herein explore more unexpected effects of dissolved gas that are inexplicable by classical theory. Electrical conductivities of different salts in water were measured as a function of concentration before and after degassing the liquid. The liquid/liquid phase separation of binary mixtures containing water, n-hexane, or perfluorooctane was significantly retarded after degassing. Non-lactate strong ion difference (SID) has been shown to be associated with predictors of mortality in intensive care unit. However, the existence of any association between non-lactate SID (nlSID) and all cause, cardiovascular and cancer mortality has not been explored before in community dwelling US adults.
In a nationally representative cross-sectional survey of the US non-institutionalized population, all adult participants (≥20 years of age) using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data (1999-2010) combined with National Death Index for mortality status through December 2011. Cox proportional hazard models were built to estimate the hazard ratios for cardiovascular, cancer, and all-cause mortality for each unit increase in non-lactate SID. The models were adjusted for demographic and confounder variables.
In the study population the mean (SD) age was 49.6 (18.4) years. Of the study population, 31,475 (91.5%) were alive and 2,893 (8.4%) died during the mean (SD) follow-up period of 5.5 (3.5) years. In univariate regression model using nlSID as continuous variable, we found 2% (unadjusted hazard ratio, HR=1.02; 95% CI, 1.004-1.05) increase in all-cause but not in cardiovascular and cancer mortality (HR=1.03; 95% CI, 0.99-1.08, HR=1.01; 95% CI, 0.97-1.06). After adjusting for potential confounders, we found 7% (adjusted HR=1.07; 95% CI, 1.04-1.10), 5% (HR=1.05; 95% CI, 1.00-1.11) and 7% (HR=1.07; 95% CI, 1.02-1.12) increase in all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality.

Since June 2017, the Primary Health Care Integrated Geriatric Services Initiative (PHC IGSI) has been implemented in Alberta, Canada to, among other aims, reduce costs of unplanned health service utilization while maximizing the utilization of available community resources to support people living with dementia living in communities.
We performed an economic evaluation of this initiative to inform policy regarding sustainability, scale up and spread.
We used a cohort design together with a difference-in-difference approach and a propensity score matching technique to calculate impacts of the intervention on patient's health service utilization, including inpatient, outpatient and physician services, as well as prescription drugs. We then used a decision tree to compare between benefits and costs of the intervention and reported net benefits (NB) and return on investment ratios (ROI). We used a health system perspective and a time horizon of 1 year. Both deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analysI also supports people living in the community with frailty and other geriatric syndromes, therefore, the cost-savings estimated in this study are likely underestimated.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant health and economic crisis around the world. The U.S. saw a rapid escalation in laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and related deaths in March, 2020. The financial consequences of a virtual economic shutdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus are widespread and debilitating, with over 30 million Americans (about 20% of the labor force) filing for unemployment benefits since mid-March. During these unprecedented times, it is important to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on psychological distress and overall fear associated with the virus.
To gain an understanding of the overall levels and predictors of psychological distress experienced in the first month of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S., a survey was administered online to over 2,000 individuals residing in the country. The survey instrument was administered between March 22-26, 2020, during which time the country was suffering through a period of exponential growth in COVID-19 cases and fataic suggests government officials, policy-makers, and public health advocates should act quickly to address emerging mental health problems.

Comparison to other EHs from mycobacteria allows insight into the active site plasticity with respect to substrate specificity. We speculate that mycobacterial EHs may have a narrow substrate specificity providing a potential explanation for the genetic repertoire of epoxide hydrolase genes in M. tuberculosis.Formaldehyde is an environmental and occupational chemical carcinogen implicated in the damage of proteins and nucleic acids. However, whether formaldehyde provokes modifications of RNAs such as 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxoG) and the role that these modifications play on conferring long-term adverse health effects remains unexplored. Here, we profile 8-oxoG modifications using RNA-immunoprecipitation and RNA sequencing (8-oxoG RIP-seq) to identify 343 RNA transcripts heavily enriched in oxidations in human bronchial epithelial BEAS-2B cell cultures exposed to 1 ppm formaldehyde for 2 h. RNA oxidation altered expression of many transcripts involved in chromatin modification and p53-mediated DNA-damage responses, two pathways that play key roles in sustaining genome integrity and typically deregulated in tumorigenesis. Given that these observations were identified in normal cells exhibiting minimal cell stress and death phenotypes (for example, lack of nuclear shrinkage, F-actin alterations or increased LDH activity); we hypothesize that oxidative modification of specific RNA transcripts following formaldehyde exposure denotes an early process occurring in carcinogenesis analogous to the oxidative events surfacing at early stages of neurodegenerative diseases. As such, we provide initial investigations of RNA oxidation as a potentially novel mechanism underlying formaldehyde-induced tumorigenesis.We address the diffusion of information about the COVID-19 with a massive data analysis on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit and Gab. We analyze engagement and interest in the COVID-19 topic and provide a differential assessment on the evolution of the discourse on a global scale for each platform and their users. We fit information spreading with epidemic models characterizing the basic reproduction number [Formula see text] for each social media platform. Moreover, we identify information spreading from questionable sources, finding different volumes of misinformation in each platform. However, information from both reliable and questionable sources do not present different spreading patterns. Finally, we provide platform-dependent numerical estimates of rumors' amplification.Rab6, the most abundant Golgi associated small GTPase, consists of 2 equally common isoforms, Rab6A and Rab6A', that differ in 3 amino acids and localize to trans Golgi cisternae. The two isoforms are largely redundant in function and hence are often referred to generically as Rab6. Rab6 loss-of-function inhibits retrograde Golgi trafficking, induces an increase in Golgi cisternal number in HeLa cells and delays the cell surface appearance of the anterograde cargo protein, VSVG. We hypothesized that these effects are linked and might be explained by a cisternal-specific delay in cargo transport. In pulse chase experiments using a deconvolved, confocal line scanning approach to score the distribution of the tsO45 mutant of VSVG protein in Rab6 depleted cells, we found that anterograde transport at 32 °C, permissive conditions, through the Golgi apparatus was locally delayed, almost tenfold, between medial and trans Golgi cisterna. Cis to medial transport was nearly normal as was trans Golgi to TGN transport. Trade transport from the medial to trans Golgi. The uniform growth of MNPAu on the surface forms a new photonic crystal spectrum. The strong coupling of the spectra causes anomalous absorption in the ultraviolet-near infrared band (400-900 nm). Furthermore, by removing the PS core, a nanogold cavity structure referred to as Au@MNPAu was prepared. This structure demonstrated a high purity (> 97 wt%), low density (9-223 mg/cm3), and high specific surface area (854 m2/g). As the purification process progressed, the MNPAu coupling on the surface of the micro-gold cage strengthened, resulting in the formation of peaks around 370 nm, plasma resonant peaks around 495 nm, and structural bands of photonic crystal peaks around 850 nm. The micron-sized gold cage provides hybridized and tunable plasmonic systems. We evaluated written instructions plus video modeling-and when necessary, in vivo prompting and feedback-to teach 3 parents to implement a structured meal procedure to decrease food selectivity among their children with autism. In addition to data on correct parent implementation, we also collected data on child bite acceptance. Results showed that instructions and video modeling were effective to achieve the mastery criteria for 1 parent; the other 2 parents required in vivo prompts and feedback. Two of the children exhibited an increase in bite acceptance during the structured meal procedure.Skinner's (1957) classification of mand responses has spawned decades of research related to teaching individuals with developmental disabilities. However, few studies have evaluated how to teach individuals with autism to progress from simple to more complex mands for desired items and activities. The present study used a treatment package consisting of errorless teaching, differential reinforcement, and systematic decision rules to increase the number of words per mand utterance used by 6 children with autism. Daily probes were conducted in the absence of prompting and differential reinforcement throughout every stage of the treatment. Results showed that all children showed significant developmental gains in the mean length of utterances. Increased rates of manding, increased emission of mand frames, and decreased instances of indicating responses (i.e., pointing, reaching) in the absence of mands were also observed. Student performance on pre- and posttests was measured, as well as student performance on exercises within each lesson. The average time to complete an exercise, number of repetitions, number of terminated sessions, and student affect were also evaluated. Results indicated that all 3 students could participate and complete exercises with some modifications to support SGD use. The students demonstrated improved performance, positive affect, and overall timely completion of exercises. In the present investigation, a skill-based vocational assessment was developed and implemented with 6 individuals diagnosed with ASD. The results of the assessment were used to design matched and unmatched jobs to determine if performance varied as a function of the assessment's results. The assessment resulted in varied job profiles across the participants. All the participants performed better (i.e., more on-task, less disruptive behavior) while completing jobs matched to their assessment results. In addition, when participants were allowed to choose between matched and unmatched jobs, they consistently chose to complete jobs that matched their profile results. Results from the current investigation suggest that a brief, skill-based vocational assessment may be a viable tool for improving employment outcomes for adolescents and adults with ASD.The acceptability and understanding of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and relational frame theory (RFT) from the perspective of the practicing Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) are missing in the literature. A survey was used in the present article to collect data on practicing BCBAs' perceptions of ACT and RFT, their acceptability in applied work, and whether they are perceived to be within the scope of applied behavior analysis. The outcomes of the survey suggested a majority of BCBAs acknowledged that ACT is within the scope of ABA (n = 161, 53%), but they do not perceive it as being part of their personal scope of practice (n = 152, 50.16%). Additionally, the outcomes suggested BCBAs acknowledged that RFT is within the scope of applied behavior analysis (n = 190, 62.70%). We evaluated written instructions plus video modeling-and when necessary, in vivo prompting and feedback-to teach 3 parents to implement a structured meal procedure to decrease food selectivity among their children with autism. In addition to data on correct parent implementation, we also collected data on child bite acceptance. Results showed that instructions and video modeling were effective to achieve the mastery criteria for 1 parent; the other 2 parents required in vivo prompts and feedback. Two of the children exhibited an increase in bite acceptance during the structured meal procedure.Skinner's (1957) classification of mand responses has spawned decades of research related to teaching individuals with developmental disabilities. However, few studies have evaluated how to teach individuals with autism to progress from simple to more complex mands for desired items and activities. The present study used a treatment package consisting of errorless teaching, differential reinforcement, and systematic decision rules to increase the number of words per mand utterance used by 6 children with autism. Daily probes were conducted in the absence of prompting and differential reinforcement throughout every stage of the treatment. Results showed that all children showed significant developmental gains in the mean length of utterances. Increased rates of manding, increased emission of mand frames, and decreased instances of indicating responses (i.e., pointing, reaching) in the absence of mands were also observed. Angelman syndrome is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by delayed development, intellectual disability, speech impairment, and ataxia. It results from the loss of UBE3A protein, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, in neurons of the brain. Despite the dynamic spatiotemporal expression of UBE3A observed in rodents and the potential clinical importance of when and where it is expressed, its expression pattern in humans remains unknown. This reflects a common challenge of studying human neurodevelopment prenatal periods are hard to access experimentally. In this work, human cerebral organoids reveal a change from weak to strong UBE3A in neuronal nuclei within 3 weeks of culture. Angelman syndrome human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived organoids also exhibit early silencing of paternal UBE3A, with topoisomerase inhibitors partially rescuing UBE3A levels and calcium transient phenotypes. This work establishes human cerebral organoids as an important model for studying UBE3A and motivates their broader use in understanding complex neurodevelopmental disorders.Most organs and tissues in the body, including bone, can repair after an injury due to the activation of endogenous adult stem/progenitor cells to replace the damaged tissue. We show that periosteal cells (PCs) carrying the Fgfr3Y637C/+ mutation can engage in osteogenic and chondrogenic lineages, but following transplantation do not undergo terminal chondrocyte hypertrophy and transformation into bone causing pseudarthrosis. Instead, Prx1Cre;Fgfr3Y637C/+ PCs give rise to fibrocartilage and fibrosis. Conversely, wild-type PCs transplanted at the fracture site of Prx1Cre;Fgfr3Y637C/+ **** allow hypertrophic cartilage transition to bone and permit fracture consolidation. The results thus highlight cartilage-to-bone transformation as a necessary step for bone repair and FGFR3 signaling within PCs as a key regulator of this transformation.Research shows a higher incidence of colorectal cancer in men. We report the roles of androgen in proliferation and differentiation of intestinal stem cells via targeting of the androgen receptor (AR) on intestinal stromal cells by negatively regulating BMP signaling. Orchidectomy (ORX) or the AR antagonist promotes expansion of intestinal epithelium but suppresses intestinal stem cell (ISC) proliferation. Conversely, the AR agonist inhibits ISC differentiation but augments proliferation in ovariectomized ****. Mechanistically, activation of the AR increases expression of BMP antagonists but lowers expression of BMP4 and Wnt antagonists in primary stromal cells, which promotes intestinal organoid growth. Interestingly, the BMP pathway inhibitor LDN-193189 reverses the ORX-induced effects. We investigated how hippocampal subfields contribute to pattern separation and how this is affected by Apolipoprotein-E (APOE), the strongest AD genetic risk factor. Using ultra-high-field (7T) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), APOE-ε3-ε3 carriers predominantly recruited cornu ammonis 3 (CA3) during a spatial mnemonic discrimination task, whereas APOE-ε3-ε4 and APOE-ε3-ε2 carriers engaged CA3 and dentate gyrus (DG) to the same degree. Specifically, APOE-ε3-ε4 carriers showed reduced pattern separation in CA3, whereas APOE-ε3-ε2 carriers exhibited increased effects in DG and pattern separation-related functional connectivity between DG and CA3. Collectively, these results demonstrate that AD genetic risk alters hemodynamic responses in young pre-symptomatic individuals, paving the way for development of biomarkers for preclinical AD.Octopuses are active predators with highly flexible bodies and rich behavioral repertoires [1-3]. By performing gene expression analyses, we identified 12 (out of 59 in total) female-biased Ors, suggesting their possible involvement in oviposition choice. By ectopically expressing these Ors in Xenopus oocytes and screening their responses with 49 odors (including 13 ITCs, 25 general plant volatiles, and 11 sex pheromone components), we found that Or35 and Or49 responded specifically to three ITCs (iberverin, 4-pentenyl ITC, and phenylethyl ITC).
