The aberrant protein-protein interaction between calmodulin and mutant huntingtin protein in Huntington's disease patients has been found to contribute to Huntington's disease progression. A high-throughput screen for small molecules capable of disrupting this interaction revealed a sultam series as potent small-molecule disruptors. Diversification of the sultam scaffold afforded a set of 24 analogs or further evaluation. Several structure-activity trends within the analog set were found, most notably a negligible effect of absolute stereochemistry and a strong beneficial correlation with electron-withdrawing aromatic substituents. The most promising analogs were profiled for off-target effects at relevant kinases and, ultimately, one candidate molecule was evaluated for neuroprotection in a neuronal cell model of Huntington's disease.Smoking causes more deaths among people living with HIV than HIV infection itself. Few smoking cessation interventions and studies of sexual minority communities have considered the lived experiences of Black men who have sex with men (BMSM) living with HIV. Before developing interventions for these men, we need to answer How do experiences of discrimination and stigma influence their perceptions of smoking? This phenomenological study was led by a community-based organization. We conducted six focus groups with 53 BMSM living with HIV in Los Angeles. We used minority stress theory in the analysis and interpretation of the data. We identified two themes (1) co-occurrence of race and sexual orientation stressors and smoking (e.g., "I feel like I'd be discriminated against sometimes because I'm gay and because I'm Black.") and (2) smoking as a reaction to HIV-positive status (e.g., "I know more people that started smoking after they found out they [had] HIV."). Participants smoked to cope with stressors around race, sexual orientation, and living with HIV. These findings challenge us to ensure that smoking cessation interventions address the personal and social concerns of BMSM living with HIV and help them identify healthier ways to cope with stressors.This secondary analysis studied 50 transcripts of women who shared day-to-day experiences of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and characterized temporal (time-associated) features of living with LUTS. One of these variables is fear, present in situations of continuous uncertainty. Fear is a key variable for mental health and tracking it and its correlates might help to develop proper education and prevention programs. Currently, Brazil is one of the epicentres of the COVID-19 pandemic, with its public health system scrapped and not being able to contain the amount of infected people. Therefore, a proper measure to screen the fear of COVID-19 will help to provide improvements in mental health in such contexts. For that, two studies were performed. In Study 1 (N = 230) we assessed the factorial structure of the measure through exploratory factor analysis, and item parameters using item response theory. In Study 2 (N = 302), we assessed whether the structure would replicate in an independent sample and through confirmatory factor analysis, besides assessing convergent validity using Structural Equation Modelling and proposing a shorter version of the measure. Both long and short versions presented a reliable unidimensional structure and similar patterns of correlations with depression, anxiety, and stress. Overall, our results showed that the FCV-19S and its short version are useful measures to the assessment of fear of COVID-19 in Brazil.The current pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has negatively impacted medical workers' mental health in many countries including Japan. Although research identified poor mental health of medical workers in COVID-19, protective factors for their mental health remain to be appraised. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate relationships between mental health problems, loneliness, hope and self-compassion among Japanese medical workers, and compare with the general population. Online self-report measures regarding those four constructs were completed by 142 medical workers and 138 individuals in the general population. T-tests and multiple regression analysis were performed. Medical workers had higher levels of mental health problems and loneliness, and lower levels of hope and self-compassion than the general population. Loneliness was the strongest predictor of mental health problems in the medical workers. Findings suggest that Japanese medical workplaces may benefit from targeting workplace loneliness to prevent mental health problems among the medical staff.

To explore how video learning strategies influence students' Flipped learning (FL) achievement, deep approach to learning (DAL) and lifelong learning (LL) orientations and how DAL and LL can be promoted.
Data were collected from 65 dental students enrolled in a 21-week clinical periodontology course. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was conducted to investigate factors and pathways affecting FL achievement, DAL, and LL.
FL achievement was predicted by repeated and in-advance video learning strategies. In-advance, meticulous, and expanded video learning strategies directly influenced DAL, and indirectly influenced LL via DAL. LL was not affected by any of the video learning strategies but by the DAL.
This study implies that mere implementation of FL may not guarantee more developed DAL and enhanced LL. Redesigning a course with FL should entail revisiting and revising student assessment. LL is an inclusive approach that requires the long-term cultivation of meaning, experience, insight, learning, and practice.

Here, we describe two siblings with congenital ataxia, who acquired independent gait by age 4 years. After 16 years of follow-up they presented near normal cognition, cerebellar ataxia, mild pyramidal signs, and dystonia. On exome sequencing, a novel homozygous variant (c.1580-18C > G - intron 17) in ATP8A2 was identified. A new acceptor splice site was predicted by bioinformatics tools, and functionally characterized through a minigene assay. Minigene constructs were generated by PCR-amplification of genomic sequences surrounding the variant of interest and cloning into the pCMVdi vector. Altered splicing was evaluated by expressing these constructs in HEK293T cells. The construct with the c.1580-18C > G homozygous variant produced an aberrant transcript, leading to retention of 17 bp of intron 17, by the use of an alternative acceptor splice site, resulting in a premature stop codon by insertion of four amino acids. These results allowed us to establish this as a disease-causing variant and expand ATP8A2-related disorders to include less severe forms of congenital ataxia.

Summer camp for children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) provides a unique and engaging clinical environment for nursing students to learn about evolving diabetes care and to help children develop diabetes management skills.
This prospective, pretest/posttest study assessed student nurses' attitudes about diabetes, who attended one of four residential summer camps in the United States, using the Diabetes Attitude Survey 3 (DAS3). The survey was administered before and after clinical experience designed to fulfill experiential curricula requirements from various nursing programs.
After attending diabetes camp, nursing students (N=73) had a positive change in their attitudes regarding the need for special training and the psychosocial impact of diabetes.

Fucoidan contains a large amount of fucose and galactose residues, as well as various other neutral and acidic monosaccharides. Fucoidan particularly effects tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes and obesity by repairing intestinal mucosal damage and improving the intestinal microecological environment. It has been proposed that fucoidan could be used as a prebiotic agent for pharmaceutical and functional foods. In this review, we elucidate the potential mechanisms of the metabolic regulation of fucoidan with respect to the intestinal microecology of diseases. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is a construct relating to a series of metabolic dysfunctions attributable to insulin resistance and obesity. Here, we estimate the incidence of MS according to their individual components using a Mexican open-population cohort.
We evaluated data of 6144 Mexicans amongst whom 3340 did not have MS either by IDF or ATP-III definitions using data from an open-population cohort. We estimated the incidence of MS and each of its traits after a median follow-up of 2.24 (IQR 2.05-2.58) years and evaluated risk factors for MS incidence and each of its traits. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/thal-sns-032.html We also explored individuals without any MS trait to evaluate trait and MS incidence after follow-up.
We observed a high incidence of MS-IDF (115.11 cases per 1000 person-years, 95% CI 107.76-122.47), followed by MS-ATP-III (75.77 cases per 1000 person-years, 95% CI). The MS traits with the highest incidence were low HDL-C and abdominal obesity, which was consistent for subjects without MS and those without any MS trait. When assessing predictors of MS incidence, obesity, insulin resistance, and increased apolipoprotein B levels predicted MS incidence. Weight loss >5% of body weight and physical activity were the main protective factors. Obesity was a main determinant for incident MS traits in our population, with weight loss being also a protective factor for most MS traits.

Some studies have established an association between hypertension or obesity and the risk of diabetes. This study aimed to examine the interaction of hypertension and obesity on diabetes.
The data of 11,731 Chinese men and women were analyzed from the 2012-2013 Northeast China Rural Cardiovascular Health Study. The interaction was examined by both additive and multiplicative scales. General obesity was measured by body mass index (BMI); central obesity was defined by waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHpR).
After controlling for potential confounders, the odds ratios for diabetes were 3.864 (3.205-4.660), 4.500 (3.673-5.514), 4.932 (3.888-6.255) and 4.701 (3.817-5.788) for the combinations of hypertension and BMI, WC, WHtR or WHpR, respectively, which had the highest risk of diabetes among the four combinations. Notwithstanding the multiplicative interactions showed statistically significant in all analyses, the results of additive interactions were not consistent, suggesting the diabetes risk from female BMI (relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI) 1.136, 95% CI 0.127-2.146, attributable proportion due to interaction (AP) 0.267, 95% CI 0.057-0.477, synergy index (S)1.536, 95% CI 1.017-2.321) or female WHpR (RERI 1.076, 95% CI 0.150-2.002, AP0.205, 95% CI 0.037-0.374, S1.340, 95% CI 1.012-1.775) was additive to the risk from hypertension.

Here, we estimate the incidence of MS according to their individual components using a Mexican open-population cohort. We evaluated data of 6144 Mexicans amongst whom 3340 did not have MS either by IDF or ATP-III definitions using data from an open-population cohort. Based on a cost-effectiveness analysis from a program provider perspective, a decision tree model allowed the assessment of the value for money of case finding by estimating the cost per case of active TB detected compared with the status quo of no screening. The analysis confirmed that early case detection is a cost-effective intervention in areas with migrants arriving from high TB risk settings. Targeted post-arrival early screening of high TB risk vulnerable new entrants to Italy has a potential role in reducing the spread of TB among migrants.
The progression and severity of COVID-19 vary significantly in the population. While the hallmarks of SARS-CoV-2 and severe COVID-19 within routine laboratory parameters are emerging, the impact of sex and age on these profiles is still unknown.
A multidimensional analysis was performed involving millions of records of laboratory parameters and diagnostic tests for 178 887 individuals from Brazil, of whom 33 266 tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Analyzed data included those relating to complete blood cell count, electrolytes, metabolites, arterial blood gases, enzymes, hormones, cancer biomarkers, and others.
COVID-19 induced similar alterations in laboratory parameters in males and females. CRP and ferritin were increased, especially in older men with COVID-19, whereas abnormal liver function tests were common across several age groups, except for young women. Tripartite motif protein 32 (TRIM32), an E3 ubiquitin ligase, has been reported to participate in many human cancers. However, the underlying role of TRIM32 in glioma remains largely unknown. Here, we aimed to explore the function of TRIM32 in glioma cells and the clinical implications and found that TRIM32 was upregulated in glioma tissues. Consistently, overexpression of TRIM32 promoted glioma U87 and U251 cell proliferation and conferred cell resistance to temozolomide (TMZ). To this end, we first investigated BMI1 expression in brain tumors using microarray datasets in ONCOMINE, which indicated that BMI1 levels were not commonly increased in clinical brain tumors. Moreover, survival plots in PROGgeneV2 also showed that BMI1 expression was not significantly associated with reduced survival in glioma patients. Interestingly, stressful serum deprivation and anchorage independence growth conditions led to an increased BMI1 expression in glioma cells. A stress-responsive pathway, HDAC/Sp1, was further identified to regulate BMI1 expression. The HDAC inhibitor vorinostat (SAHA) prevented Sp1 binding to the BMI1 promoter, leading to a decreased expression of BMI1 and attenuating tumor growth of TMZ-resistant glioma xenografts. Importantly, we further performed survival analysis using PROGgeneV2 and found that an elevated expression of HDAC1,3/Sp1/BMI1 but not BMI1 alone showed an increased risk of death in both high- and low-grade glioma patients. The long-term associations between early receptive/expressive lexical skills and later language/pre-literacy skills require clarification.
To study the association between and predictive values of early receptive/expressive lexical skills and language/pre-literacy skills at 5;0years, and to examine the language profiles at 5;0years of children with weak receptive language/expressive lexical skills at 2;0years.
The participants were 66 monolingual children. Their lexical skills were measured using the Finnish short-form version of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories at 1;6 and 2;0years. Receptive language skills were measured at 2;0years using the Reynell Developmental Language Scales III. A broader assessment at 5;0years measured lexical, phonological, morphological and pre-literacy skills.
Significant associations between receptive/expressive lexical skills at 1;6years and language and pre-literacy skills at 5;0years were found. Both receptive language and expressive lexical development measured at 2;0years were greatly and relatively evenly associated with language and pre-literacy skills at 5;0years. Lexicon/language variables at 1;6years and 2;0years had statistically significant predictive values for general language and pre-literacy scores at 5;0years. The best models that included early lexical predictors explained 20-34% of later language/literacy outcome. Weak skills at 2;0years proposed vulnerability in language and pre-literacy skills at 5;0years.

Tripartite motif protein 32 (TRIM32), an E3 ubiquitin ligase, has been reported to participate in many human cancers. However, the underlying role of TRIM32 in glioma remains largely unknown. Here, we aimed to explore the function of TRIM32 in glioma cells and the clinical implications and found that TRIM32 was upregulated in glioma tissues. Consistently, overexpression of TRIM32 promoted glioma U87 and U251 cell proliferation and conferred cell resistance to temozolomide (TMZ). Interestingly, stressful serum deprivation and anchorage independence growth conditions led to an increased BMI1 expression in glioma cells. The participants were 66 monolingual children. Their lexical skills were measured using the Finnish short-form version of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories at 1;6 and 2;0years. Receptive language skills were measured at 2;0years using the Reynell Developmental Language Scales III. A broader assessment at 5;0years measured lexical, phonological, morphological and pre-literacy skills. Significant associations between receptive/expressive lexical skills at 1;6years and language and pre-literacy skills at 5;0years were found. Both receptive language and expressive lexical development measured at 2;0years were greatly and relatively evenly associated with language and pre-literacy skills at 5;0years. Lexicon/language variables at 1;6years and 2;0years had statistically significant predictive values for general language and pre-literacy scores at 5;0years. The best models that included early lexical predictors explained 20-34% of later language/literacy outcome. Weak skills at 2;0years proposed vulnerability in language and pre-literacy skills at 5;0years. Using the RTM-GWAS (restricted two-stage multi-locus genome-wide association study) method, 38 and 32 QTLs with 89 and 82 alleles and 2-4 and 2-6 alleles per locus were identified for NDVI and CHL, respectively, which explained 48.36% and 51.35% of the phenotypic variation for NDVI and CHL, respectively. The QTL-allele matrices were established and separated into WA, LR, and RC submatrices. From WA to LR + RC, 4 alleles and 2 new loci emerged, and 1 allele was excluded for NDVI, whereas 6 alleles emerged, and no alleles were excluded, in LR + RC for CHL. The inclusion of strepsirrhine zinc fingers completes the PRDM9 primate phylogeny. Moreover, the updated phylogeny of PRDM9 zinc fingers showed distinct clusters of strepsirrhine, tarsier, and anthropoid degenerated zinc fingers. A better characterization of the complexities between multiple exposures and their biological responses can provide the evidence needed to inform public health policy and strengthen preventative population-level interventions. In order to achieve this, we encourage the establishment of an interdisciplinary data science framework that integrates epidemiology, toxicology and bioinformatics with biomarker-based research to better define how population-level exposures contribute to these adverse birth outcomes. In this work, α-Bi2O3/g-C3N4 composite was prepared and coupled with H2O2 for the rapid and efficient degradation of doxycycline (DOX) in water under visible light irradiation. The composite exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity and 80.5% of DOX could be degraded in 120 min. The addition of H2O2 significantly improved the degradation efficiency of DOX under visible light, resulting in 79.0% of it degraded within 30 min, and the degradation rate constant of DOX was 3.6 times than that without H2O2. On the one hand, the Z-scheme heterojunction of α-Bi2O3/g-C3N4 promoted the separation rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, thereby enhancing the photocatalytic activity of the composite. On the other hand, the improvement of photocatalytic efficiency also benefited from the extra hydroxyl radicals generated by the reaction of photogenerated electrons with H2O2 in the photocatalytic system. Free radicals trapping experiments and electron spin resonance tests proved that played prominent role in the degradation process. After adding H2O2, OH also became important active species. Cyclic degradation experiments demonstrated the recyclability of the composite photocatalyst in DOX elimination applications. A vast amount of research has focused on the effects of physical fitness (PF) on mortality, with little research evaluating the effects of PF on future expected health related quality of life (HRQoL).
To evaluate how current PF influences future HRQoL measured in a prospective 8-year study in older adults.
A total of 617 (157 males) older adults (>65y) participated in the study. PF was assessed with the EXERNET battery in 2008-2009 (baseline) and 2016-2017 (follow-up). HRQoL was assessed using the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire in both evaluations. PF tertiles were developed from baseline PF variables FIT (highest PF values), REGULAR and UNFIT (lowest PF values) taking into account age and sex. Follow-up HRQoL values were compared to sex and age-specific expected values. Logistic regressions were performed to test differences between PF tertiles regarding future expected quality of life. Linear regressions were developed to test whether baseline PF could predict future HRQoL scores.
The FIT group showed higher probabilities of an improved HRQoL when compared to the UNFIT group. All PF variables seemed to be important at some point of the study except upper extremities flexibility. Aerobic endurance was the variable that showed to be significant for most of the HRQoL predictions.

In this work, α-Bi2O3/g-C3N4 composite was prepared and coupled with H2O2 for the rapid and efficient degradation of doxycycline (DOX) in water under visible light irradiation. The composite exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity and 80.5% of DOX could be degraded in 120 min. The addition of H2O2 significantly improved the degradation efficiency of DOX under visible light, resulting in 79.0% of it degraded within 30 min, and the degradation rate constant of DOX was 3.6 times than that without H2O2. On the one hand, the Z-scheme heterojunction of α-Bi2O3/g-C3N4 promoted the separation rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, thereby enhancing the photocatalytic activity of the composite. On the other hand, the improvement of photocatalytic efficiency also benefited from the extra hydroxyl radicals generated by the reaction of photogenerated electrons with H2O2 in the photocatalytic system. To evaluate how current PF influences future HRQoL measured in a prospective 8-year study in older adults. A total of 617 (157 males) older adults (>65y) participated in the study. PF was assessed with the EXERNET battery in 2008-2009 (baseline) and 2016-2017 (follow-up). HRQoL was assessed using the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire in both evaluations. PF tertiles were developed from baseline PF variables FIT (highest PF values), REGULAR and UNFIT (lowest PF values) taking into account age and sex. Follow-up HRQoL values were compared to sex and age-specific expected values. Logistic regressions were performed to test differences between PF tertiles regarding future expected quality of life. Linear regressions were developed to test whether baseline PF could predict future HRQoL scores. The FIT group showed higher probabilities of an improved HRQoL when compared to the UNFIT group. All PF variables seemed to be important at some point of the study except upper extremities flexibility. CD4+ T-cell decline and increasing virus levels are considered hallmarks of HIV/AIDS pathogenesis but we previously demonstrated in rhesus macaques that tissue macrophage destruction by simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infection associated with increased monocyte turnover also appear to impact pathogenesis. It remains unclear, however, which factors best predict onset of terminal disease progression and survival time. The objective of this study, therefore, was to directly compare these co-variates of infection for predicting survival times in retrospective studies of SIV/simian-HIV (SHIV)-infected adult rhesus macaques.

Among 27 085 patients (122 566 person-years), 80% were cisgender men, 1% transgender, 43% White, 33% Black, 17% Hispanic of any race, and 1% Indigenous. Unadjusted all-cause hospitalization rates were higher for Black [IRR 1.46, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.32-1.61] and Indigenous (1.99, 1.44-2.74) versus White cisgender men, and for Indigenous versuss and cisgender men, respectively. Disparities likely have several causes, including differences in virologic suppression and chronic conditions such as diabetes and renal disease.
We examined relationships between plasma biomarkers and neurodevelopment in children from Sub-Saharan Africa with perinatal HIV (PHIV) with controlled viremia on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
Longitudinal retrospective cohort study of children with controlled blood HIV replication.
Children (N = 213; 57% female) started ART at <3 years old, had neurodevelopmental assessments (cognition, attention/impulsivity, motor proficiency, global executive functions) at 5-11 years, and achieved controlled viremia (HIV-1 RNA <400 copies/mL for ≥9 months before initial assessment). Twenty-three plasma biomarkers were measured at onset of controlled viremia, week 0 (first neurodevelopmental assessment), and week 48 (second neurodevelopmental assessment). Factor analysis was conducted at each time point. Multivariable linear regressions assessed associations between factors and neurodevelopmental scores.
Median age at week 0 was 7.0 years. Nineteen biomarkers loaded on 6 factors A (L-10, IFNγ, IFNα2, IL-1β, IL-ligand and HIV entry blocker MIP-1β and angiogenesis stimulant VEGF concentrations on the neurodevelopment of children with PHIV. The model that emerges is of vascular inflammation leading to neurodevelopmental deficits. The role of persistent HIV replication in the central nervous system also needs to be further explored.

However, the role of SEZ6L2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still unclear. We obtained data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) to investigate SEZ6L2 expression and regulation in HCC. Then, HCC tissue samples were collected to verify SEZ6L2 by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and immunohistochemical staining (IHC). Patient information was collected for survival and prognosis analysis. qRT-PCR, IHC, and bioinformatics analysis showed that the SEZ6L2 protein was highly expressed in HCC samples. Clinical data showed that high SEZ6L2 protein expression was correlated with tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stages (P = 0.046), tumor number (P = 0.016), and tumor size (P = 0.029). Meanwhile, SEZ6L2 overexpression was closely associated with poor overall survival and disease-free survival in HCC patients. Moreover, SEZ6L2 is an independent prognostic predictor for the survival of HCC patients. This study suggests a significant correlation between SEZ6L2 and HCC, which means that SEZ6L2 may potentially serve as a useful prognostic biomarker for HCC patients. In part I, 20 male SD rats were randomly divided into control group (CG) and NB-lesion group (NG, ibotenic acid-induced NB lesion). In part II, 30 male SD rats were treated with saline (0.9% NaCl, SG group), muscimol (a GABA-A receptor agonist, MG group), and gabazine (a GABA-A receptor antagonist, GG group) in NB, respectively. Two weeks later, the activity of the rats was measured between CG and NG groups. The rats were intravenously injected with propofol (50 mg/kg/h) to test the time of loss of righting reflex (LORR) in all rats. To describe and explain these distortions, we offer a review to synthesize current knowledge on false memory in AD into a framework allowing for better understanding of the taxonomy and phenomenology of false memories and of the cognitive mechanisms that may underlie false memory formation in AD. According to this review, certain phenomenological characteristics of memories (e.g., high emotional load, high vividness, or high familiarity) result in misattributions in AD. More specifically, this review proposes that generalized decline in cognitive control and inhibition in AD may result in difficulties in suppressing irrelevant information during memory monitoring, especially when irrelevant (i.e., false) information is characterized by high emotion, vividness, or familiarity. This review also proposes that binding deficits in AD decrease the ability to retrieve relevant contextual details, leading to source monitoring errors and false memories. In short, this review depicts how phenomenological characteristics of memories and failures of monitoring during retrieval contribute to the occurrence of false memory in AD. SCD has been associated with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD). Neuroticism and openness personality dimensions have also been associated with SCD and AD. From the aforementioned, we aimed to ascertain whether the dimensions and traits defined by the Zuckerman-Kuhlman Personality Questionnaire (ZKPQ) differentiate between individuals with SCD and the general population (GP). A total of 187 participants with SCD and mild affective symptomatology recruited from the Fundació ACE Health Brain Initiative (FACEHBI) project completed the ZKPQ. Each SCD participant was matched by sex and age to an individual from the GP. Both samples included 71 men and 116 women with a mean age of 65.9 years. Results indicated that the SCD group scored significantly lower in Neuroticism-Anxiety and Activity than the GP group. Only Activity remained statistically significant in a multivariate analysis.

Propofol may mediate righting reflex by affecting GABA-A receptor in NB. Methods Fifty male SD rats (250-350 g) were divided into parts I and II. In part I, 20 male SD rats were randomly divided into control group (CG) and NB-lesion group (NG, ibotenic acid-induced NB lesion). In part II, 30 male SD rats were treated with saline (0.9% NaCl, SG group), muscimol (a GABA-A receptor agonist, MG group), and gabazine (a GABA-A receptor antagonist, GG group) in NB, respectively. Two weeks later, the activity of the rats was measured between CG and NG groups. The rats were intravenously injected with propofol (50 mg/kg/h) to test the time of loss of righting reflex (LORR) in all rats. Copyright © 2020 Yunlong Xing et al.Patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) not only are suffering from amnesia but also are prone to memory distortions, such as experiencing detailed and vivid recollections of episodic events that have never been encountered (i.e., false memories). To describe and explain these distortions, we offer a review to synthesize current knowledge on false memory in AD into a framework allowing for better understanding of the taxonomy and phenomenology of false memories and of the cognitive mechanisms that may underlie false memory formation in AD. According to this review, certain phenomenological characteristics of memories (e.g., high emotional load, high vividness, or high familiarity) result in misattributions in AD. More specifically, this review proposes that generalized decline in cognitive control and inhibition in AD may result in difficulties in suppressing irrelevant information during memory monitoring, especially when irrelevant (i.e., false) information is characterized by high emotion, vividness, or familiarity. This review also proposes that binding deficits in AD decrease the ability to retrieve relevant contextual details, leading to source monitoring errors and false memories. In short, this review depicts how phenomenological characteristics of memories and failures of monitoring during retrieval contribute to the occurrence of false memory in AD. SCD has been associated with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD). Neuroticism and openness personality dimensions have also been associated with SCD and AD. From the aforementioned, we aimed to ascertain whether the dimensions and traits defined by the Zuckerman-Kuhlman Personality Questionnaire (ZKPQ) differentiate between individuals with SCD and the general population (GP). A total of 187 participants with SCD and mild affective symptomatology recruited from the Fundació ACE Health Brain Initiative (FACEHBI) project completed the ZKPQ. Each SCD participant was matched by sex and age to an individual from the GP. Both samples included 71 men and 116 women with a mean age of 65.9 years. Results indicated that the SCD group scored significantly lower in Neuroticism-Anxiety and Activity than the GP group.
