    Lafora disease (LD) is characterized by progressive myoclonus, refractory epilepsy, and cognitive deterioration. A slower disease progression with preserved ambulation and speech after ≥4years of follow-up was observed in 1 (11%) out of the 9 (35%) EPM2A patients and in 6 (35%) out of the 17 (65%) EPM2B patients. Follow-up was >10years in 7 (41.2%) EPM2B individuals, including two harbouring the homozygous p.(D146N) pathogenic variant.

    Childhood obesity is a critical health issue. The etiology of childhood obesity is multifactorial, with age, gender, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status interacting to affect risk. Food insecurity is known to be associated with risk of childhood obesity, but the body of evidence regarding Koreans is lacking. This study investigated the association between childhood obesity and household food insecurity in Koreans. Other lifestyle and nutritional factors associated with obesity were also examined.

    Using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 1527 boys and 1366 girls. A comparison of general characteristics and nutritional intake between the groups was made using Student's t tests, χ
    tests, and general linear models. The association between childhood obesity and food insecurity was estimated with logistic regression models, and presented with odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals either with or without covariates.

Girls who were obese were less likely to have a caregiver and consumed a higher percentage of energy from protein. Through a review of the identified studies, it was found that spontaneous healing of the fetal membrane has not been successful. Several efforts have been made to seal membranes before or after rupture using different methods, including amniopatches, collagen, tissue patches, fibrin sealant, mussel-mimetic sealant, engineered cell matrix, and immunological supplements. However, most studies have been conducted in ex vivo or in vivo settings, so the safety and applicability of these techniques to spontaneous rupture of membranes in clinical settings have not been sufficiently tested. Here we present a collection of methods used in crystallographic studies of the single-stranded DNA-binding protein from the bacteriophage Enc34, from designing expression constructs through to protein production, purification, and crystallization, to determination and analysis of the protein's three-dimensional structure. The chapter aims to shed light on all the essential stages in a structural study of a single-stranded DNA-binding protein, with a spotlight on procedures specific to X-ray crystallography to aid those interested in venturing into structural biology.

  • BACKGROUND Non-adherence to immunosuppressant therapy (IST) is a major risk factor for graft rejection. Limited reports are available regarding the prevalence of non-adherence to IST in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) as well as the predictors and barriers of non-adherence. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included ambulatory KTRs, ≥18 years of age, with a functional kidney, from January 2017 to November 2018. The primary outcome was the prevalence of non-adherence, assessed with 1) A telephone interview to complete the Arabic-translated and validated Immunosuppressant Therapy Adherence Instrument Scale (ITAS) and 2) IST serum blood levels within therapeutic levels. The secondary outcomes were the barriers to adherence using the validated Immunosuppressant Therapy Barriers of Adherence Scale (ITBS). RESULTS We enrolled 102 of 141 patients screened. The mean±SD for age, body mass index, and the baseline of the estimated glomerular filtration rate were 45.5±15.6 years, 29.1±6 kg/m², and 72.7±21.9 ml/min/1.73 m², respectively. CONCLUSIONS The FEA showed that compared with the CS, the new BCLSC showed better performance in resisting shearing force for Pauwels III femoral neck fracture, with better mechanical properties.     BACKGROUND Non-adherence to immunosuppressant therapy (IST) is a major risk factor for graft rejection. Limited reports are available regarding the prevalence of non-adherence to IST in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) as well as the predictors and barriers of non-adherence. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included ambulatory KTRs, ≥18 years of age, with a functional kidney, from January 2017 to November 2018. The primary outcome was the prevalence of non-adherence, assessed with 1) A telephone interview to complete the Arabic-translated and validated Immunosuppressant Therapy Adherence Instrument Scale (ITAS) and 2) IST serum blood levels within therapeutic levels. The secondary outcomes were the barriers to adherence using the validated Immunosuppressant Therapy Barriers of Adherence Scale (ITBS). RESULTS We enrolled 102 of 141 patients screened. The mean±SD for age, body mass index, and the baseline of the estimated glomerular filtration rate were 45.5±15.6 years, 29.1±6 kg/m², and 72.7±21.9 ml/min/1.73 m², respectively. In this study, BV-2 microglial cell line was used to mimic primary microglia and the effects of CBD, DHA, the combination of CBD and DHA, as well as CBD-DHA conjugates on LPS-activated signaling molecules and pro-inflammatory factors were assessed. The interaction of CBD and DHA in inhibiting LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO) production was found to be additive. In contrast, DHA was found to synergize with CBD in inhibiting BV-2 cellular viability which implies that the combination of CBD and DHA amplifies their cytotoxicity. CBD-DHA conjugate C3D eliminated the cytotoxicity associated with single CBD/DHA use without significantly compromising the anti-neuroinflammation activity. The parallel architecture of EZcount makes it fast enough to process a sample in minutes using a standard workstation.

  • To explore the association of transthyretin (TRR) with colorectal cancer (CRC) development and progression.

    This study was conducted on 12 normal colorectal tissue samples, 15 colorectal adenomas, and 39 colorectal adenocarcinoma tissue specimens. TTR expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry, and the results were correlated to clinicopathological characteristics of CRC patients.

    TTR staining was detected in 16.7% (2/12) of normal colon tissues, 46.7% (7/15) of colorectal adenomas, and 89.7% (35/39) of colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues. TTR staining scores in normal colon tissues, adenoma, and adenocarcinoma were 0.58, 2.27, and 5.40, respectively. G3 grade adenocarcinoma had a higher TTR staining score compared with G2 and G1 grades (8.40, p = 0.0009). Lower TTR expression was significantly associated with metastasis (p = 0.043).

    Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer around the world. Since this cancer is highly resistant to the existing treatments, we used a novel method, which selectively targets HCC cancer cells to improve the treatment process. As normal cells are resistant to reovirus replication, we used oncolytic reoviruses, which can infect, replicate in, and destroy cancer cells. In this study, the effects of oncolytic human reoviruses on cancer cells, derived from HCC biopsies, were investigated.

    First, reoviruses were purified. Then a plaque assay was performed to estimate the number of viruses and determine the multiplicity of infection (MOI). To evaluate the effects of reoviruses on cancer cells derived from HCC biopsies, replication of reovirus RNA, viral protein production, cytopathic effects (CPE), and cancer cell viability were assessed at different intervals post-infection.

    Replication of reovirus RNA and viral protein production were detected in cancer cells. Also, different levels of viral protein production, CPE, cytotoxicity, and cancer cell viability were observed at different intervals post-infection with human reoviruses. In contrast, normal human fibroblasts, which were used as negative control, remained unchanged.

    As a measure for the analytical performance of the individual laboratories, we used the PT results (RIQAS, Randox international quality assessment scheme) of one year for 34 analytes. We calculated annual 'total scores' of each analyte for all participating laboratories and compared them statistically.

    In 2018, there was a highly significant difference between the seven laboratories in the 'total scores' for the 34 analytes (p < 0.001). The laboratories had a 'cumulative, annual total score' of 75 - 91% of the maximum achievable values. Essentially, two groups could be distinguished. Laboratories 1 - 3 achieved better results (90 - 91%) than laboratories 4 - 7 (77 - 82%). In particular, the non-participation of the laboratories 4 - 7 in several PT cycles in 2018 and the registration in the wrong homogeneous group for some analytes in the laboratories 4 and 5 seem to be responsible for the worse results.

    To explore the association of transthyretin (TRR) with colorectal cancer (CRC) development and progression. This study was conducted on 12 normal colorectal tissue samples, 15 colorectal adenomas, and 39 colorectal adenocarcinoma tissue specimens. TTR expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry, and the results were correlated to clinicopathological characteristics of CRC patients. TTR staining was detected in 16.7% (2/12) of normal colon tissues, 46.7% (7/15) of colorectal adenomas, and 89.7% (35/39) of colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues. Since this cancer is highly resistant to the existing treatments, we used a novel method, which selectively targets HCC cancer cells to improve the treatment process. As normal cells are resistant to reovirus replication, we used oncolytic reoviruses, which can infect, replicate in, and destroy cancer cells. In this study, the effects of oncolytic human reoviruses on cancer cells, derived from HCC biopsies, were investigated. First, reoviruses were purified. Then a plaque assay was performed to estimate the number of viruses and determine the multiplicity of infection (MOI). To evaluate the effects of reoviruses on cancer cells derived from HCC biopsies, replication of reovirus RNA, viral protein production, cytopathic effects (CPE), and cancer cell viability were assessed at different intervals post-infection.   • Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a chronic disease of the skin, for which the pathogenesis is not known. It can lead to various changes of the skin and the genital area, potentially leading to both functional as well as cosmetic problems for the patient, thus disrupting the quality of life. In this study; the purpose was to review the clinical characteristics and the treatments of the 15 pediatric patients under the age of 18 followed up in our out-patient clinic with a diagnosis of LS and to compare the findings with literature data.

    Between 2011 and 2017, the files of 15 patients diagnosed clinically and/or histologically with LS in our clinic were retrospectively examined. The demographic characteristics, clinic and laboratory findings, treatment options of the patients are reported.

    Of the patients included in the study 14 were girls and one was a boy. The average age was 11.6 years (5-17 years), the average age for the initial disease was 7.8 years (2-13 years). The average duration of the disease at the dxtragenital involvement was the most common on the trunk. Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up during childhood is highly important to prevent any possible future anatomical or psychological damage and genital malignancies.

    Previous studies demonstrated critical deficits in diagnosis and management of childhood food allergy (FA), and recent developments in FA research support adopting a proactive approach in FA management. Our objective was to describe FA knowledge and management patterns of pediatricians.

    We applied a 24-item survey to 170 general pediatricians, pediatric allergists and pediatric gastroenterologists practicing in Turkey.

    Some IgE-mediated symptoms of FA such as cough, urticaria, wheezing and anaphylaxis were falsely recognized as symptoms of non-IgE-mediated FA by 30%, 29%, 25% and 19% of the participants, respectively. By contrast, 50% of the participants falsely recognized ****** stool, a finding of IgE-mediated FA. Most frequently and least frequently used diagnostic tools were specific IgE (30.5%) and oral food challenge test (1.7%), respectively. Maternal diet restrictions and infant diet restrictions were advised by 82% and 82%, respectively. The control group consisted of 80 patients with no gastrointestinal disorders and chronic diseases. Glucose, amylase, lipase, pancreatic amylase, immunoreactive trypsinogen (IRT) and fecal elastase (FE-1) levels were examined for each patient.

    No significant difference was found between the two groups with regard to lipase, pancreatic amylase, IRT, and serum glucose levels. However, the amylase levels were significantly higher and the FE-1 levels were significantly lower in the study group compared to the control group (p=0.007 and p < 0.001). The cut-off value detected in in ROC analysis for the diagnostic value of FE-1 in predicting FAP-NOS was found to be 140.107 μg/g. Yet paucity of culturally adapted instruments to screen PTEs and related symptoms in preschool-aged children limits pediatric providers. This multicenter study aimed to screen the traumatic life events of preschool-aged children admitted to pediatric outpatient clinics at four different cities of Turkey and to determine the socio-demographic risk factors associated with PTEs. Moreover, it was also intended to develop the cultural adaptation of the Child and Adolescent Trauma Screen (CATS) Caregiver-report 3-6 Years version to Turkish and to analyze its reliability.

    Liver metastasis is a significant adverse predictor of overall survival (OS) among breast cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk and prognostic factors of breast cancer with liver metastases (BCLM).

    Data on 311,573 breast cancer patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and 1728 BCLM patients from Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (FUSCC) were included. Logistic regression was used to identify risk factors for liver metastasis. Cox proportional hazards regression model was adopted to determine independent prognostic factors in BCLM patients.

    Young age, invasive ductal carcinoma, higher pathological grade, and subtype of triple-negative and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 positive (HER2+) were risk factors for developing liver metastasis. The median OS after liver metastasis was 20.0 months in the SEER database and 27.3 months in the FUSCC dataset. Molecular subtypes also played a critical role in the survival of BCLM patientroduction of HER2-targeted therapy and therefore it should be recommended for HER2+ BCLM patients.
    Breast cancer patients at a high risk for developing liver metastasis deserve more attention during the follow-up. BCLM patients with HR+/HER2+ subtype displayed the longest median survival than HR+/HER2- and triple-negative patients due to the introduction of HER2-targeted therapy and therefore it should be recommended for HER2+ BCLM patients.

    Leucine-rich repeat-containing G-protein-coupled receptor 5 (LGR5) is an important cancer stem cell marker in gastric cancer. However, no detailed studies are available on LGR5 expression in poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma (PD-AC). Therefore, we investigated the relationship between LGR5 expression and clinicopathological data in PD-AC.

    LGR5 mRNA expression levels were quantified in 41 PD-AC specimens using a highly sensitive RNAscope in situ hybridization technique. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection was also detected by EBV in situ hybridization.

    LGR5 expression levels were measured in 38 of 41 PD-AC cases, and 17 cases were identified as LGR5 high. The frequency of EBV positivity tended to be higher in the LGR5-low group than in the LGR5-high group (P = 0.0764). Furthermore, the frequency of vascular invasion tended to be higher in the LGR5-high group than in the LGR5-low group (P = 0.0764). The overall survival of PD-AC patients in the LGR5-high group was significantly lower than in the LGR5-low group (log-rank test, P = 0.0108). The Cox proportional hazard regression model revealed that the LGR5-low group (HR = 0.29; 95% CI 0.11-0.74; P = 0.01) showed independently better OS for PD-AC.

    A recent study found an influence of organized mammography screening programmes (MSPs) on geographical and temporal variation of mastectomy rates. We aimed to quantify the effect on the example of one of the cantonal programmes in Switzerland.

    We used incidence data for the years 2010-2017 from the cancer registry of Eastern Switzerland. We included women with invasive-non-metastatic breast cancer (**) in the screening age group 50-69-year-olds in the canton of St.Gallen. We compared mastectomy rates among cancer patients detected through the organised screening programme (MSP) vs. otherwise detected by stage.

    MSP-detected patients in St.Gallen presented with lower stages. 95% of MSP-detected had stages I-II vs 76% of Non-MSP-detected. Within all non-metastatic stage, tumour size and nodal status groups, MSP-detected patients had lower mastectomy rates, overall 10% vs 24% in 50-69-year-old non-participants. Their odds of receiving a mastectomy are about half of the Non-MSP-detected (OR = 0.48, p= 0.002).

    Our study showed that MSPs have a positive effect on lowering mastectomy rates. Screening participants are significantly less likely to receive a mastectomy compared to non-participants, which must be attributed to additional factors than just lower stages. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk and prognostic factors of breast cancer with liver metastases (BCLM). Data on 311,573 breast cancer patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and 1728 BCLM patients from Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (FUSCC) were included. Logistic regression was used to identify risk factors for liver metastasis. Cox proportional hazards regression model was adopted to determine independent prognostic factors in BCLM patients. Young age, invasive ductal carcinoma, higher pathological grade, and subtype of triple-negative and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 positive (HER2+) were risk factors for developing liver metastasis. The median OS after liver metastasis was 20.0 months in the SEER database and 27.3 months in the FUSCC dataset. Molecular subtypes also played a critical role in the survival of BCLM patientroduction of HER2-targeted therapy and therefore it should be recommended for HER2+ BCLM patients. Breast cancer patients at a high risk for developing liver metastasis deserve more attention during the follow-up. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between LGR5 expression and clinicopathological data in PD-AC. LGR5 mRNA expression levels were quantified in 41 PD-AC specimens using a highly sensitive RNAscope in situ hybridization technique. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection was also detected by EBV in situ hybridization. LGR5 expression levels were measured in 38 of 41 PD-AC cases, and 17 cases were identified as LGR5 high. The frequency of EBV positivity tended to be higher in the LGR5-low group than in the LGR5-high group (P = 0.0764). Furthermore, the frequency of vascular invasion tended to be higher in the LGR5-high group than in the LGR5-low group (P = 0.0764). The overall survival of PD-AC patients in the LGR5-high group was significantly lower than in the LGR5-low group (log-rank test, P = 0.0108). The Cox proportional hazard regression model revealed that the LGR5-low group (HR = 0.29; 95% CI 0.11-0.74; P = 0.01) showed independently better OS for PD-AC. We aimed to quantify the effect on the example of one of the cantonal programmes in Switzerland. We used incidence data for the years 2010-2017 from the cancer registry of Eastern Switzerland. We included women with invasive-non-metastatic breast cancer (BC) in the screening age group 50-69-year-olds in the canton of St.Gallen. We compared mastectomy rates among cancer patients detected through the organised screening programme (MSP) vs. otherwise detected by stage. MSP-detected patients in St.Gallen presented with lower stages. 95% of MSP-detected had stages I-II vs 76% of Non-MSP-detected. Within all non-metastatic stage, tumour size and nodal status groups, MSP-detected patients had lower mastectomy rates, overall 10% vs 24% in 50-69-year-old non-participants. Their odds of receiving a mastectomy are about half of the Non-MSP-detected (OR = 0.48, p= 0.002). Our study showed that MSPs have a positive effect on lowering mastectomy rates.     The purpose of this study was to improve the interpretability of the Non-arthritic Hip Score (NAHS) by determining the minimal clinically important difference (MCID), patient acceptable symptomatic state (PASS), and substantial clinical benefit (SCB) after hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement. The secondary aim was to identify variables associated with achievement of the thresholds.

    Patients who underwent hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement and completed postoperative questionnaires between August 2019 and March 2020 were included. Patients were excluded if they underwent previous ipsilateral hip surgery, underwent gluteus medius repair, or had a previous hip condition. The MCID, PASS, and SCB thresholds were calculated for the NAHS at minimum 1-, 2-, and 5-year follow-up. Distribution- and anchor-based methods with receiver operating characteristic analysis were used to determine the thresholds. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to determine predictors of achieving tlue ranged from 91.9 to 94.4. The preoperative NAHS was found to be positively associated with achievement of the PASS and inversely related to achievement of the MCID.

Melanocortins and their receptors (MCRs) exert multiple beneficial effects in pulmonary inflammation. We tested the idea that treatment with the synthetic α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone analogue [Nle4,D-Phe7]-α-MSH (NDP-MSH) during ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) could exert positive influences in lungs exposed to different injuries. Rats were assigned to one of the following protocols (N = 10 each) 1) ischemia/reperfusion (IR) or 2) cardiac death (CD) followed by ex vivo perfusion. NDP-MSH treatment was performed in five rats of each protocol before lung procurement and during EVLP. Pulmonary function and perfusate concentration of gases, electrolytes, metabolites, nitric-oxide, mediators, and cells were assessed throughout EVLP. ATP content and specific MCR expression were investigated in perfused lungs and in biopsies collected from rats in resting conditions (Native, N = 5). Linear peptides were synthesized, folded, purified and then evaluated for their antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities against the bacterial pathogens, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter cloacae and Acinetobacter baumannii. The Am23SK variant (SCRFSGGYCIWNWERCRSGHFLVALCPFRKRCCK) from A. mississippiensis displayed promising activity against both planktonic cells and bacterial biofilms, outperforming the human β-defensin 3 under the experimental conditions. Moreover, Am23SK exhibited no cytotoxicity towards mammalian cells and exerted immunomodulatory effects in vitro, moderately suppressing the production of proinflammatory mediators from stimulated human bronchial epithelial cells.   • In this work, we report surface-modified nickel (Ni) wire/NiCo2O4/reduced graphene oxide (Ni/NCO/RGO) electrodes fabricated by a combination of facile solvothermal and hydrothermal deposition methods for wire-shaped supercapacitor application. The effect of Ni wire etching on the microstructural, surface morphological and electrochemical properties of Ni/NCO/RGO electrodes was investigated in detail. On account of the improved hybrid nanostructure and the synergistic effect between spinel-NiCo2O4 hollow microspheres and RGO nanoflakes, the electrode obtained from Ni wire etched for 10 min, i.e., Ni10/NCO/RGO exhibits the lowest initial equivalent resistance (1.68 Ω), and displays a good rate capability with a volumetric capacitance (2.64 F/cm3) and areal capacitance (25.3 mF/cm2). Additionally, the volumetric specific capacitance calculated by considering only active material volume was found to be as high as 253 F/cm3. It is revealed that the diffusion-controlled process related to faradaic volume processes (battery type) contributed significantly to the surface-controlled process of the Ni10/NCO/RGO electrode compared to other electrodes that led to the optimum electrochemical performance. Furthermore, the wire-shaped supercapacitor (WSC) was fabricated by assembling two optimum electrodes in-twisted structure with gel electrolyte and the device exhibited 10 μWh/cm3 (54 mWh/kg) energy density and 4.95 mW/cm3 (27 W/kg) power density at 200 μA. Finally, the repeatability, flexibility, and scalability of WSCs were successfully demonstrated at various device lengths and bending angles.Objectives To find an objective diagnostic tool for the superficial veins in legs. Methods This study included 137 patients who underwent TRANCE-MRI from 2017 to 2020 (IRB 202001570B0). Among them, 53 with unilateral leg venous diseases underwent a QFlow scan and were classified into the reflux and non-reflux groups according to the status of the great saphenous veins. Results The QFlow, namely stroke volume (SV), forward flow volume (FFV), mean flux (MF), stroke distance (SD), and mean velocity (MV) measured in the external iliac, femoral, popliteal, and great saphenous vein (GSV). The SV, FFV, SD, MF, SD, and MV in the GSV (morbid/non-morbid limbs) demonstrated a favorable ability to discriminate reflux from non-reflux in the ROC curve. The SD in the GSV and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.049 and 0.047/cutoff = 86 and 117.1) and the MV in the EIV/FV ratio, GSV, and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.035, 0.034, and 0.025/cutoff = 100.9, 86.1, and 122.9) exhibited the ability to discriminate between reflux and non-reflux group. The SD, MV, and FFV have better ability to discriminate a reflux from non-reflux group than the SV and MF. Conclusions QFlow may be used to verify the reflux of superficial veins in the legs. The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress responses in aged oocytes, embryonic lethality, and developmental growth of the offspring were examined with maternal NAM supplementation. Supplementation with NAM improved oocyte quality, decreased embryonic lethality, and promoted germ cell apoptosis. Furthermore, NAM supplementation in aged mothers reduced ROS accumulation and improved mitochondrial function in oocytes.

Furthermore, the wire-shaped supercapacitor (WSC) was fabricated by assembling two optimum electrodes in-twisted structure with gel electrolyte and the device exhibited 10 μWh/cm3 (54 mWh/kg) energy density and 4.95 mW/cm3 (27 W/kg) power density at 200 μA. Finally, the repeatability, flexibility, and scalability of WSCs were successfully demonstrated at various device lengths and bending angles.Objectives To find an objective diagnostic tool for the superficial veins in legs. Methods This study included 137 patients who underwent TRANCE-MRI from 2017 to 2020 (IRB 202001570B0). Among them, 53 with unilateral leg venous diseases underwent a QFlow scan and were classified into the reflux and non-reflux groups according to the status of the great saphenous veins. Results The QFlow, namely stroke volume (SV), forward flow volume (FFV), mean flux (MF), stroke distance (SD), and mean velocity (MV) measured in the external iliac, femoral, popliteal, and great saphenous vein (GSV). The SV, FFV, SD, MF, SD, and MV in the GSV (morbid/non-morbid limbs) demonstrated a favorable ability to discriminate reflux from non-reflux in the ROC curve. The SD in the GSV and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.049 and 0.047/cutoff = 86 and 117.1) and the MV in the EIV/FV ratio, GSV, and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.035, 0.034, and 0.025/cutoff = 100.9, 86.1, and 122.9) exhibited the ability to discriminate between reflux and non-reflux group. The SD, MV, and FFV have better ability to discriminate a reflux from non-reflux group than the SV and MF. Conclusions QFlow may be used to verify the reflux of superficial veins in the legs. An increasing GSV/PV ratio is a hallmark of reflux of superficial veins in the legs.Post-modification of a series of NCN-pincer platinum(II) complexes [PtX(NCN-R-4)] (NCN = [C6H2(CH2NMe2)2-2,6]-, R = C(O)H, C(O)Me and C(O)Et), X = Cl- or Br-) at the para-position using the McMurry reaction was studied. In the present study, we examined the role of nicotinamide (NAM) in oocyte quality and offspring development. The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress responses in aged oocytes, embryonic lethality, and developmental growth of the offspring were examined with maternal NAM supplementation. Supplementation with NAM improved oocyte quality, decreased embryonic lethality, and promoted germ cell apoptosis. Furthermore, NAM supplementation in aged mothers reduced ROS accumulation and improved mitochondrial function in oocytes.
