The oral experiments showed CdTe QD exposure led to a decrease of the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio of gut microbiota, which highly negatively correlated with the low-density lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels in serum. In addition, the low-dose (0.2 and 2 μm) CdTe QDs significantly increased the diversity of gut microbiota, and did not elevate the LDL, TG and TC levels in serum. The medium dose (20 μm) of CdTe QDs caused the biggest decrease of the F/B ratio, so it significantly increased the LDL, TG and TC levels compared with the control. We report a case of ICI-induced late-onset Raynaud's-like phenomenon in a patient receiving combination immunotherapy. A 53-year-old woman with advanced non-small lung cancer received combination anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 and anti-programmed death 1 ICI therapy. She developed early (hypophysitis at 4 months) and late (Raynaud's at >20 months) irAEs. Longitudinal assessment of 124 autoantibodies was correlated with toxicity. Although autoantibody levels were generally stable for the first 18 months of therapy, shortly before the development of Raynaud's, a marked increase in multiple autoantibodies was observed. This case highlights the potential for delayed autoimmune toxicities and provides potential biologic insights into the dynamic nature of these events.

    This article presents an integrative review of the literature with the aim of identifying instruments already in existence for measuring neonatal infant pain with a view to exploring possibilities of applying them in clinical practice in Croatia.

    An integrative review.

    The databases searched included MEDLINE, Cinahl Cochrane Library, and Science Direct. The search was limited to available full-text articles in English published between 1990 and 2020. The studies were selected according to the PRISMA strategy and evaluated based on the methodologic framework proposed by Whittemore and Knafl.

    The research identified 13 scales for assessing pain in neonatal infants, including 5 one-dimensional and 8 multidimensional scales that assess acute and prolonged pain in preterm and full-term infants.

    Overall, the articles in this review confirm that pain is a multidimensional phenomenon and that professionals should consider other specific characteristics of the neonatal infant population while measuring pain.

    Our review showed that various tools exist assessing pain in neonatal infants that could be used in clinical practice in Croatia. However, it is difficult to determine the most appropriate instrument at this stage, as the choice depends on various factors that still need to be considered. The decision on which pain scale to use or which is more appropriate should be based on further psychometric tests, its accuracy, and ease of use.

    The demand for gender-affirming hormone therapy is increasing worldwide prompting a growing requirement for solid evidence for efficacy and safety.

    We aimed to report on the organization of transgender care and the current clinical practice of feminizing hormone therapy in specialized clinics in the Nordic countries.

    This study was a cross-sectional study performed as a questionnaire survey. A quantitative questionnaire was sent to 15 specialized clinics prescribing feminizing hormone therapy in the Nordic countries.

    Twelve clinics responded to the inquiry.

    The answers showed great variance in both number of clinics in each country as well as number of doctors responsible for prescribing gender-affirming hormone therapy. There was great difference in the width of the target ranges for estrogen plasma concentrations and in preferred route of administration for estrogens. Likewise, the risk assessment and monitoring of side effects were diverse.

    /Objectives Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) metastatic to the leptomeninges is a rare and lethal event. Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) research is limited in PDAC, and insights into clinical descriptors, possible disease predictors, and treatment strategies is necessitated.

    Memorial Sloan Kettering databases were queried with Institutional Review Board approval to identify patients with LMD and PDAC treated between January 2000 and June 2020. Medical record review was used to abstract clinical, genomic, pathologic, and radiographic data. Overall survival was calculated from date of PDAC diagnosis to date of death. Previously published literature on LMD from PDAC was reviewed.

    Four patients with LMD from PDAC were identified, two males and two females. Age at diagnosis ranged from 57 to 68 years. All four patients had predominant lung metastasis and a relatively low burden of intra-abdominal disease. Somatic testing indicated alterations typical of PDAC and no PDAC defining pathogenic germline mutations were identified. An extended clinical course prior to LMD diagnosis was observed in all patients, ranging from 16 to 148 months. Conceptualizing the brain as a complex adaptive system and applying the tools that are used in addressing such systems provides an opportunity for expanding the space in which to search for new therapies. Epilepsy has long been considered a network disease at the level of whole brain connectivity, but the application of the concepts to gene and protein expression networks as well as to the dynamic behaviors of microcircuits has been underexplored. These levels of the brain complex adaptive system will be reviewed and a case made for the epilepsy community to embrace these concepts in order to reap to enormous potential rewards.

  • Critically, atypical fixation behavior did not explain the body posture recognition deficits observed in CD. Our findings suggest that CD-related impairments in recognition of body postures of emotion are not due to attentional issues. Training programmes designed to ameliorate the emotion recognition difficulties associated with CD may need to incorporate a body posture component.
    The optimal pain management strategy for postoperative pain after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) remains unclear. This study compared femoral nerve block (FNB) and adductor canal block (ACB) for pain management of early postoperative pain, knee function, and recovery of activity of daily living (ADL) after ACLR using hamstring autografts.

    In this prospective, single-blind, randomised controlled trial, 64 patients aged 12-56years who underwent anatomical double-bundle ACLR with a hamstring autograft between August 2019 and May 2020 were randomised to undergo preoperative FNB (n = 32) or ACB (n = 32). The peripheral nerve block was performed by a single experienced anaesthesiologist under ultrasound guidance.     FNB and ACB provided comparable outcomes related to early postoperative pain, knee function, and ADL after double-bundle ACLR using hamstring autografts. Further research is necessary to evaluate the mid- to long-term effect of each block on recovery of knee function and ADL.

    I.Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is used to remove cutaneous tumors in cosmetically sensitive anatomic areas. Surgeons can provide several reconstructive options to patients following tumor removal, including primary closure, skin grafts, local, regional or free *****, and secondary intention healing (SIH). Notably, with the advancement of surgical and reconstructive techniques, the use of second intention healing has declined and may be underutilized. This review aims to critically evaluate the literature regarding indications, anatomical considerations, advantages, and complications of second intention wound healing following Mohs surgery. We also offer reappraisal of SIH following MMS to promote evidence-based postoperative care.No data on real-life experiences of risankizumab efficacy and safety are reported, apart from two isolated case reports. We carried out a single-centre, prospective study to assess the efficacy and safety of risankizumab. Fourteen patients were included (mean age 44.5 ± 14.2 years). Mean PASI decreased from 12.3 ± 5.2 (baseline) to 4.4 ± 2.7 at week 4 (p  less then  0.01), and to 2.7 ± 1.7 at week 16 (p  less then  0.001). A similar trend was observed for BSA. Mean BSA was higher in multifailure (23.5 ± 11.8 vs 15.5 ± 11.8). At 4 and 16 weeks, a significant improvement in PASI and BSA was observed in both groups. The Akt signaling inhibitors wortmannin and LY294002 could block the cardioprotective effect of apelin, which could be relieved by ERS inhibitor 4-phenyl butyric acid (4-PBA). The aforementioned beneficial effects of apelin could all be blocked by APJ receptor antagonist F13A. 4-PBA and SC79, an Akt activator, can restore the ameliorative effect of apelin on AHF blocked by F13A. Apelin treatment dramatically ameliorated cardiac impairment caused by AHF, which might be mediated by APJ/Akt/ERS signaling pathway. These results will shed new light on AHF therapy.
    Odontogenic sinusitis (ODS) is underrepresented in the literature compared to other forms of rhinosinusitis, specifically in sinusitis guidelines and position statements. ODS publication characteristics could help explain why ODS has received less attention in sinusitis guidelines and position statements. The purpose of this study was to explore trends in the quantity and quality of ODS studies over 3 decades from 1990 to 2019.

    A systematic review was performed to identify all ODS studies from 1990 to 2019. The following variables from all ODS studies were compared between and across the 3 decades authors' specialties, journal specialties, authors' geographic origins (continents), study topics, study designs, and evidence levels.

    From 1990 to 2019, there were 254 ODS studies that met inclusion criteria. Numbers of publications increased each decade, with 161 being published from 2010 to 2019. Otolaryngologists and dental authors published over 75% of ODS studies each decade, with 60-75% of ODS articles being published in otolaryngology or dental journals.
    Critically, atypical fixation behavior did not explain the body posture recognition deficits observed in CD. Our findings suggest that CD-related impairments in recognition of body postures of emotion are not due to attentional issues. Training programmes designed to ameliorate the emotion recognition difficulties associated with CD may need to incorporate a body posture component. This study compared femoral nerve block (FNB) and adductor canal block (ACB) for pain management of early postoperative pain, knee function, and recovery of activity of daily living (ADL) after ACLR using hamstring autografts. In this prospective, single-blind, randomised controlled trial, 64 patients aged 12-56years who underwent anatomical double-bundle ACLR with a hamstring autograft between August 2019 and May 2020 were randomised to undergo preoperative FNB (n = 32) or ACB (n = 32). This review aims to critically evaluate the literature regarding indications, anatomical considerations, advantages, and complications of second intention wound healing following Mohs surgery. We also offer reappraisal of SIH following MMS to promote evidence-based postoperative care.No data on real-life experiences of risankizumab efficacy and safety are reported, apart from two isolated case reports. We carried out a single-centre, prospective study to assess the efficacy and safety of risankizumab. Fourteen patients were included (mean age 44.5 ± 14.2 years). Mean PASI decreased from 12.3 ± 5.2 (baseline) to 4.4 ± 2.7 at week 4 (p  less then  0.01), and to 2.7 ± 1.7 at week 16 (p  less then  0.001). A similar trend was observed for BSA. DESIGN This was a mixed-method, pre-post quasi-experimental study informed by the Practical, Robust Implementation and Sustainability Model for implementation science. SETTING Program activities took place in San Diego County, mainly within clients' homes or community, with some activities in-office. PARTICIPANTS Participants were aged 60 years or older, met eligibility for Medi-Cal or were uninsured, and met criteria for HD. INTERVENTION A manualized, mobile protocol that incorporated CREST was utilized. MEASUREMENTS The Clutter Image Rating and Hoarding Rating Scale were used as effectiveness outcomes. An investigator-created staff questionnaire was used to evaluate implementation. RESULTS Thirty-seven clients were reached and enrolled in treatment and 15 completed treatment during the initial 2 years of the program. There were significant changes in hoarding severity and clutter volume. Based on the initial 2 years of the program, funding was provided for expansion to cover additional San Diego County regions and hire more staff clinicians in year three. CONCLUSION Preliminary data suggest that the CREST intervention can be successfully implemented in a community setting with positive results for older adults with HD.OBJECTIVE The Apolipoprotein (APOE) ε4 allele increases the risk for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia, but not all carriers develop MCI/dementia. The purpose of this exploratory study was to determine if early and subtle preclinical signs of cognitive dysfunction and medial temporal lobe atrophy are observed in cognitively intact ε4 carriers who subsequently develop MCI. METHODS Twenty-nine healthy, cognitively intact ε4 carriers (ε3/ε4 heterozygotes; ages 65-85) underwent neuropsychological testing and MRI-based measurements of medial temporal volumes over a 5-year follow-up interval; data were converted to z-scores based on a non-carrier group consisting of 17 ε3/ε3 homozygotes. RESULTS At follow-up, 11 ε4 carriers (38%) converted to a diagnosis of MCI. At study entry, the MCI converters had significantly lower scores on the Mini-Mental State Examination, Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) Trials 1-5, and RAVLT Immediate Recall compared to non-converters. MCI converters also had smaller MRI volumes in the left subiculum than non-converters. Follow-up logistic regressions revealed that left subiculum volumes and RAVLT Trials 1-5 scores were significant predictors of MCI conversion. INTERVENTION The intervention group (n = 100) received 11 individual weekly sessions of the CORDIAL program. This intervention includes elements from CBT, cognitive rehabilitation, and reminiscence therapy. The control group (n = 98) received treatment-as-usual. MEASUREMENTS We assessed Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) (main outcome), Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire, and Quality of Life in Alzheimer's disease (secondary outcomes) over the course of 4 months and at a 10-month follow-up visit.

  • Exhaled breath test is a typical disease monitoring method for replacing of blood and urine samples that may create discomfort for patients. To monitor exhaled breath markers, gas biomedical sensors have undergone rapid progresses for non-invasive and point-of-care diagnostic devices. Among gas sensors, metal oxide-based biomedical gas sensors have received remarkable attentions owing to their unique properties, such as high sensitivity, simple fabrication, miniaturization, portability, and real-time monitoring. Herein, we reviewed the recent advances in chemoresistive metal oxide-based gas sensors with ZnO, SnO2, and In2O3 as sensing materials for monitoring a range of exhaled breath markers (i.e., NO, H2, H2S, acetone, isoprene, and formaldehyde). We focused on the strategies that improve the sensitivity and selectivity of metal oxide-based gas sensors. The challenges to fabricate a functional gas sensor with high sensing performance along with suggestions are outlined.The nutritional status at diagnosis, as well as weight loss during chemotherapy, are important factors for morbidity and mortality in cancer patients. They might also influence outcomes in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) receiving allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). We evaluated the body mass index (BMI) at diagnosis, prior to HSCT, and the BMI difference (ΔBMI = BMIHSCT-BMIdiagnosis) in 662 AML patients undergoing allogeneic HSCT. Patients being obese at AML diagnosis had significantly higher nonrelapse mortality (NRM) and shorter overall survival (OS) after HSCT, but no distinct cumulative incidence of relapse than nonobese patients. Weight loss during chemotherapy (ΔBMI > -2) was a strong predictor for higher NRM and shorter OS in univariate and multivariate analyses. These results were observed across all European LeukemiaNet (ELN) 2017 risk groups but especially in patients with favorable or intermediate ELN2017 risk and patients transplanted in morphologic complete remission. Only in patients being obese at AML diagnosis, weight loss did not result in adverse outcomes. ΔBMI > -2 represents a strong, independent, and modifiable risk factor for AML patients treated with HSCT. We evaluated the current and future impact of this program to see if it is effective in preventing new HIV infections. Methods The Thembisa, Goals and Epidemiological Modeling Software (EMOD) HIV transmission models were calibrated to South Africa's HIV epidemic, fitting to household survey data on HIV prevalence, risk behaviors, and proportions of men circumcised, and to programmatic data on intervention roll-out including program-reported **** over 2009-2017. We compared the actual program accomplishments through 2017 and program targets through 2021 with a counterfactual scenario of no ****program. Results The ****program averted 71,000-83,000 new HIV infections from 2010 to 2017. The future benefit of the circumcision already conducted will grow to 496,000-518,000 infections (6-7% of all new infections) by 2030. If program targets are met by 2021 the benefits will increase to 723,000-760,000 infections averted by 2030. The cost would be $1,070-1,220 per infection averted relative to no MMC. The savings from averted treatment needs would become larger than the costs of the ****program around 2034-2039. In the Thembisa model, when modelling South Africa's 9 provinces individually, the 9-provinces-aggregate results were similar to those of the single national model. Across provinces, projected long-term impacts were largest in Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga (23-27% reduction over 2017-2030), reflecting these provinces' greater ****scale-up. It has only further exacerbated the stress on human resources for health (HRH) in many unanticipated ways. We explored the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the health workforce in India, and analytically extrapolated the learnings to draw critical components to be addressed in the HRH policies, which can further be used to develop a detailed 'health workforce resilience' policy. We examined the existing literature and media reports published during the pandemic period, covering the gaps and challenges that impeded the performance of the health workers. Recommendations were designed by studying the learnings from various measures taken within India and in some other countries. We identified seven key areas that could be leveraged and improved for strengthening resilience among the health workforce. The system-level factors (at macro level) include developing a health workforce resilience policy, planning and funding for emergency preparedness, stakeholder engagement and incentivization mechanisms; the organization-level factors (meso level) include identifying HRH bench strength, mobilizing the health workforce, psycho-social support, protection from disease; and the individual-level factors (micro level) include measures around self-care by health workers. In keeping with the interdisciplinary nature of the associated factors, we emphasize on developing a future-ready health workforce using a multi-sectoral approach for building its strength and resilience.Pandemics are nothing unusual but indeed lead to devastating effects that play a pivotal role in reshaping human history. To monitor exhaled breath markers, gas biomedical sensors have undergone rapid progresses for non-invasive and point-of-care diagnostic devices. Among gas sensors, metal oxide-based biomedical gas sensors have received remarkable attentions owing to their unique properties, such as high sensitivity, simple fabrication, miniaturization, portability, and real-time monitoring. Herein, we reviewed the recent advances in chemoresistive metal oxide-based gas sensors with ZnO, SnO2, and In2O3 as sensing materials for monitoring a range of exhaled breath markers (i.e., NO, H2, H2S, acetone, isoprene, and formaldehyde). If program targets are met by 2021 the benefits will increase to 723,000-760,000 infections averted by 2030. The cost would be $1,070-1,220 per infection averted relative to no MMC. We examined the existing literature and media reports published during the pandemic period, covering the gaps and challenges that impeded the performance of the health workers. Recommendations were designed by studying the learnings from various measures taken within India and in some other countries. We identified seven key areas that could be leveraged and improved for strengthening resilience among the health workforce. The system-level factors (at macro level) include developing a health workforce resilience policy, planning and funding for emergency preparedness, stakeholder engagement and incentivization mechanisms; the organization-level factors (meso level) include identifying HRH bench strength, mobilizing the health workforce, psycho-social support, protection from disease; and the individual-level factors (micro level) include measures around self-care by health workers. Relationships between EPS, psychopathology and neurocognitive and SC measures were investigated by correlation tests. Moreover, a partial correlation network was computed by means of a network analysis. 256 patients were treated with FGAs alone or in combination with SGA and 619 with SGAs. EPS were significantly more frequent in FGA-treated group than in the SGA-treated one. Patients with EPS disclosed a more severe psychopathology and were more impaired in neurocognitive and SC measures compared to those without EPS. Disorganization, expressive deficit, and duration of illness were significantly associated to both neurocognitive and SC measures while EPS were associated to neurocognitive measures only. The network analysis showed that parkinsonism was the sole EPS directly connected to both psychopathological and neurocognitive indices whereas no direct connection emerged between EPS and SC measures. Present findings confirm that EPS are still present in the era of SGAs and contribute, together with other clinical variables, to the neurocognitive but not to the SC impairment of patients with schizophrenia.

The 78 accessions included 52 from ssp. mongolica, 6 from ssp. sinensis, and 20 hybrids. The objective of this systematic review (PROSPERO Registration No. CRD42016029347) and the meta-analyses was to assess the applications, indications, and the effects of WATSU to form a basis for further studies. METHODS A search for "WATSU OR watershiatsu OR (water AND shiatsu)" was conducted without any restrictions in 32 databases. Peer reviewed original articles addressing WATSU as a stand-alone hydrotherapy were assessed for risk of bias. Quantitative data of effects on pain, physical function, and mental issues were processed in random model meta-analyses with subgroup analyses by study design. Effect sizes were expressed as Hedges's g (± 95% confidence intervals). RESULTS Of 1,906 unique citations, 27 articles regardless of study design were assessed for risk of bias. WATSU has been applied to individuals of all ages. Indications covered acute (e.g. pregnancy related low **** pain) and chronic conditions (e.g. cerebral palsy) with beneficial effects of WATSU regarding e.g. relaxation or sleep quality. Meta-analyses suggest beneficial effect sizes of WATSU on pain (overall Hedges's g = -0.71, 95% CI = -0.91 to -0.51), physical function (overall Hedges's g = -0.76, 95% CI = -1.08 to -0.44), and mental issues (overall Hedges's g = -0.68, 95% CI = -1.02 to -0.35). Our goal was to quantify the increase in pine plantation, and concomitant loss of native forests, in central Chile since ca. 1960, and to identify in which settings native forests were lost most rapidly. We analyzed aerial photographs from 1955 and 1961, Landsat images from 1975 and 1998, and Google Earth high-resolution satellite images from 2014. To ensure high classification accuracy, we visually interpreted images for a systematic 3-km grid and assigned each point as either 'pine plantation', 'native forest', 'agricultural-livestock lands', or 'other'. We also calculated latitude, longitude, slope, Euclidean distance to the nearest road and to the nearest pulp mill, and the frequency of land use surrounding each point as potential variables to explain observed land use changes. Pine plantations expansion started even before 1960, when 12% of all points were already pine plantations, was particularly rapid from 1975 (18% of sample points) to 1998 (38%), and stabilized thereafter (37% by 2014).

According to the stress-dominance hypothesis (SDH), assembly mechanisms range from strong abiotic filtering to competition as the environment becomes more favourable. Most evidence for the SDH comes from studies in gradients of conditions (i.e. abiotic environmental factors that influence the functioning of organisms but are not consumed by them). However, we hypothesized that in resource gradients, competition increases as abiotic filtering becomes stronger. To test our hypothesis, we set up eight plots at different sites along an abiotic severity gradient in the Brazilian semi-arid region (BSAR). In each plot, we identified and measured each woody plant species found, and we recorded 11 functional traits of the main species, dividing the traits into alpha (competition effects) and beta (abiotic filtering effects). We investigated the presence of phylogenetic signal in the traits, the community phylogenetis.Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is an ecologically and economically important species. Here, we assessed the diversity of 78 accessions cultivated in northern China using 8 agronomic characteristics, oil traits (including oil content and fatty acid composition) in seeds and fruit pulp, and SSR markers at 23 loci. The 78 accessions included 52 from ssp. mongolica, 6 from ssp. sinensis, and 20 hybrids. To assess the phenotypic diversity of these accessions, 8 agronomic fruit traits were recorded and analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA). The first two PCs accounted for approximately 78% of the variation among accessions. It combines elements of myofascial stretching, joint mobilization, massage, and shiatsu and is reported to be used to address physical and mental issues. The objective of this systematic review (PROSPERO Registration No. CRD42016029347) and the meta-analyses was to assess the applications, indications, and the effects of WATSU to form a basis for further studies. METHODS A search for "WATSU OR watershiatsu OR (water AND shiatsu)" was conducted without any restrictions in 32 databases. Peer reviewed original articles addressing WATSU as a stand-alone hydrotherapy were assessed for risk of bias. Quantitative data of effects on pain, physical function, and mental issues were processed in random model meta-analyses with subgroup analyses by study design. Effect sizes were expressed as Hedges's g (± 95% confidence intervals). RESULTS Of 1,906 unique citations, 27 articles regardless of study design were assessed for risk of bias. WATSU has been applied to individuals of all ages. Indications covered acute (e.g. pregnancy related low back pain) and chronic conditions (e.g. cerebral palsy) with beneficial effects of WATSU regarding e.g. relaxation or sleep quality. Meta-analyses suggest beneficial effect sizes of WATSU on pain (overall Hedges's g = -0.71, 95% CI = -0.91 to -0.51), physical function (overall Hedges's g = -0.76, 95% CI = -1.08 to -0.44), and mental issues (overall Hedges's g = -0.68, 95% CI = -1.02 to -0.35). CONCLUSION Various applications, indications and beneficial effects of WATSU were identified. The grade of this evidence is estimated to be low to moderate at the best. To strengthen the findings of this study, high-quality RCTs are needed.The piRNA pathway protects germline genomes from selfish genetic elements (e.g. transposons) through their transcript cleavage in the cytoplasm and/or their transcriptional silencing in the nucleus. Here, we describe a mechanism by which the nuclear and cytoplasmic arms of the piRNA pathway are linked. We find that during mitosis of Drosophila spermatogonia, nuclear Piwi interacts with nuage, the compartment that mediates the cytoplasmic arm of the piRNA pathway. At the end of mitosis, Piwi leaves nuage to return to the nucleus. Dissociation of Piwi from nuage occurs at the depolymerizing microtubules of the central spindle, mediated by a microtubule-depolymerizing kinesin, Klp10A. Depletion of klp10A delays the return of Piwi to the nucleus and affects piRNA production, suggesting the role of nuclear-cytoplasmic communication in piRNA biogenesis. We propose that cell cycle-dependent communication between the nuclear and cytoplasmic arms of the piRNA pathway may play a previously unappreciated role in piRNA regulation.The expansion of forest plantations is cause for concern because of their environmental effects, and the loss of native forests and agricultural land. Our goal was to quantify the increase in pine plantation, and concomitant loss of native forests, in central Chile since ca. 1960, and to identify in which settings native forests were lost most rapidly. We analyzed aerial photographs from 1955 and 1961, Landsat images from 1975 and 1998, and Google Earth high-resolution satellite images from 2014. To ensure high classification accuracy, we visually interpreted images for a systematic 3-km grid and assigned each point as either 'pine plantation', 'native forest', 'agricultural-livestock lands', or 'other'. We also calculated latitude, longitude, slope, Euclidean distance to the nearest road and to the nearest pulp mill, and the frequency of land use surrounding each point as potential variables to explain observed land use changes. Pine plantations expansion started even before 1960, when 12% of all points were already pine plantations, was particularly rapid from 1975 (18% of sample points) to 1998 (38%), and stabilized thereafter (37% by 2014).

  • Antiretroviral therapy (ART) dispensing is strongly associated with treatment adherence. Among illicit drug-using populations, whom experience greater structural barriers to adherence, directly administered antiretroviral therapy (DAAT) is often regarded as a stronger predictor of optimal adherence over self-administered medications. In Vancouver, Canada, people living with HIV (PLHIV) who use drugs and live in low-income housing are a critical population for treatment support. This group is typically able to access two key DAAT models, daily delivery and daily pickup, in addition to ART self-administration. This ethno-epidemiological qualitative study explores how key dispensing models impact ART adherence among PLHIV who use drugs living in low-income housing, and how this is framed by structural vulnerability. Semi-structured interviews lasting 30-45 minutes were conducted between February and May 2018 with 31 PLHIV who use drugs recruited from an ongoing prospective cohort of PLHIV who use drugs. Intervied housing-based supports could be critical, but the impacts of such models on agency must be considered to ensure optimal adherence.
    Development of white spot lesions (WSLs) during orthodontic treatment is a common risk factor. Fixation of the orthodontic appliances with glass ionomer cements could reduce the prevalence of WSL's due to their fluoride release capacities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences of fluoride release properties from resin-modified and conventional glass ionomer cements (GICs).

    The resin-modified GICs Fuji ORTHO LC (GC Orthodontics), Meron Plus QM (VOCO), as well as the conventional GICs Fuji ORTHO (GC Orthodontics), Meron (VOCO) and Ketac Cem Easymix (3M ESPE) were tested in this study. The different types of GICs were applied to hydroxyapatite discs according to the manufacturer's instructions and stored in a solution of TISAB III (Total Ionic Strength Adjustment Buffer III) and fluoride-free water at 37°C. Fluoride measurements were made after 5 minutes, 2 hours, 24 hours, 14 days, 28 days, 2 months, 3 months and 6 months. One factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for the overall compo products from the same company (Fuji ORTHO LC vs. Fuji ORTHO from GC Orthodontics Europe GmbH and Meron Plus QM vs. Meron from VOCO GmbH, Mannheim, Germany), it can be said that the resin-modified GICs have a higher release than conventional GICs. The highest individual fluoride release of all GICs was at 24 hours. A general statement, whether resin-modified or conventional GICs have a higher release of fluoride cannot be made.

    Clinical sequencing using a panel of genes has recently been applied worldwide for patients with refractory solid tumors, but the significance of clinical sequencing using gene panel testing remains uncertain. Here we sought to clarify the feasibility and utility of clinical sequencing in the treatment of refractory tumors at our hospital.

    A total of 39 patients with advanced solid tumors treated at our hospital between 2018 and 2020 were enrolled in the clinical sequencing. Among them, we identified 36 patients whose tissue samples were of suitable quality for clinical sequencing, and we analyzed the genomic profiles of these tumors.

    Pathogenic alterations were detected in 28 (78%) of the 36 patients. The most common mutation was TP53 (55%), followed by KRAS (22%), and the highest frequency of gene amplification was ERBB2 (17%). Nine of the 36 patients were identified as candidates for novel molecular-targeted therapy based on their actionable gene alterations, but only one case ended up receiving noveconsensus about its off-label use might help patients receive greater benefit from clinical sequencing.The prevalence of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is gradually increasing, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is becoming increasingly common as a modality used to diagnose TMD. Edema and osteonecrosis in the bone marrow of the mandibular condyle have been considered to be precursors of osteoarthritis, but these changes are not evaluated accurately and quantitatively on routine MRI. The iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least-squares estimation (IDEAL-IQ) method, as a cutting-edge MRI technique, can separate fat and water using three asymmetric echo times and the three-point Dixon method. The purpose of this study was to analyze the quantitative fat fraction (FF) in the mandibular condyle head using the IDEAL-IQ method. Seventy-nine people who underwent MRI using IDEAL-IQ were investigated and divided into 1) the control group, without TMD symptoms, and 2) the TMD group, with unilateral temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. In both groups, the FF of the condyle head in the TMJ was analyzed by two oral and maxillofacial radiologists.
