This pilot study aims to assess the influence of liver dysfunction, measured by the novel LiMAx test, on clinical outcomes in critically ill patients treated with linezolid.

This study aimed to evaluate the short-term effect of LSVT® BIG on QOL improvement and its retention in a patient with PD. Motor symptoms, walking ability, and walking speed were evaluated as factors associated with QOL.
A 63-year-old woman who was diagnosed with PD received a 4-week LSVT® BIG program under the supervision of certified LSVT® BIG physical therapists. The participant's disease severity was classified as Hoehn and Yahr stage 2. The Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39), Movement Disorder Society-sponsored Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) part 3, timed up-and-go test (TUG), and 10 m walk test (10 MWT) were evaluated before, after, and 1-year after the intervention.
The results indicated short-term improvements in the PDQ-39, MDS-UPDRS part 3, TUG, and 10 MWT which were retained for up to 1 year.

Mirror therapy (MT) has proven to be beneficial for treating patients suffering from motor aphasia after stroke. However, the impacts of MT on neuroplasticity remain unexplored.
In this paper we conducted a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the treatment using the MT on motor aphasia following acute cerebral infarction.
We randomly assigned 30 patients into test and control groups, with test group patients treated with MT, whereas control group patients were treated with sham MT. At 24 hours prior to and after the intervention, we obtained functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data from study subjects. At baseline, after treatment and 12-week follow-up, we additionally evaluated patients with the Modified Rankin Scale (mRS), the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and the aphasia quotient (AQ) in the western aphasia test.
After 2 weeks of treatment, the test group demonstrated significant improvements in AQ values, naming, repetition, spontaneous speech, and mRS scores comf MT and the application of this therapy as an adjunct rehabilitation technique in language recovery.

Adolescence is a period that is characterized by growth and development rapidly. They have only limited knowledge regarding sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Adolescents girls are more marginalized and face many problems in society. Owing to a lack of knowledge on SRH, they succumb to various situations such as unhealthy menstrual hygiene practices, unwanted sex, teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortions, reproductive tract infections (RTIs), and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV/AIDS. These have adverse effects on their mental health. This article reviews the literature to explore the knowledge, attitude, practices, and life skills regarding SRH among adolescent girls. Need for the inclusion of SRH and life skill education for adolescents in schools, strengthening health care programs, and involvement of various Non-Governmental organizations (NGO for adolescent wellbeing. A Search of relevant publications between 2011 and 2020 was done through multiple electronic databases such as MEDLINE, PUBMED, and Google scholar. A manual search on world health statistics, national programs regarding SRH was done.The whole world is in the grip of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. This pandemic brought visible changes in the life of humans around the globe. Likewise, the medical health sector is forced to use digital technology to continue to provide medical health services by preventing themselves. COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the significance of digitalization in every sphere of life. To highlight the epidemiology and pathophysiology of hypertension and obesity in COVID-19 infection RECENT FINDINGS Hypertension and obesity have emerged as significant risk factors for contracting the COVID-19 virus and the subsequent severity of illness. ACE2 receptor expression and dysregulation of the RAAS pathway play important roles in the pathophysiology of these associations, as do the pro-inflammatory state and cytokine dysregulation seen in obesity. Some of these patterns have also been seen historically in other viral illnesses. Understanding the mechanisms behind the associations between COVID-19, hypertension, and obesity is important in developing effective targeted therapies and monitoring vaccine response and efficacy. More research is needed to apply our growing knowledge of the pathophysiology of COVID-19, hypertension, and obesity to prevention and treatment. We used a chicken embryo model to investigate the effects of two different forms of iron oxide-NPs (IONPs) on the mRNA expression of HSPB1, HSPB5, HSPB8, and HSPB9 in cerebral tissue. Two hundred-ten fertilized eggs were randomly divided into seven groups (30 eggs/group; 10 eggs/replicate). Three groups received 100 ppm, 250 ppm, and 500 ppm of Fe2O3-NPs, respectively. Three other groups received 100 ppm, 250 ppm, and 500 ppm of Fe3O4-NPs, respectively, and one group remained untreated as a control. The NPs were given by in ovo method (0.3 ml/egg) only once on the first day of the embryonic period. Samples from cerebrums were collected on day 20 for gene expression analyses. HSPB1, HSPB5, HSPB8, and HSPB9 were all expressed in both normal and IONPs exposed cerebrums. SHSPs tested were differentially expressed in response to various concentrations of IONPs. The highest expression levels in response to Fe2O3-NPs and Fe3O4-NPs were observed for HSPB5 and HSPB9, respectively. The greatest gene expression changes due to the Fe2O3-NPs and Fe3O4-NPs exposure observed for HSPB1 and HSPB5, respectively. The results suggest a protective cellular mechanism against IONPs through SHSPs and recommend that expression profiling of SHSPs be included in the study of nanotoxicity.Concurrent exposure to a multitude of environmental toxicants pose serious health hazard to humans and animals. The present investigation was conceptualized to determine deleterious effects of concomitant subacute arsenic and quinalphos exposure on antioxidant responses of liver and erythrocytes of Wistar rats. Fifty-four Wistar rats were divided into nine groups with six animals in each. Animals were exposed to either quinalphos (1/100th and 1/10th of LD50) through oral gavage daily or arsenic (50 and 100 ppb) in drinking water alone and in combination for 28 days. While treatment with different toxicants alone also significantly reduced hemoglobin concentration, hepatic biomarkers and levels of antioxidant parameters as compared with control values, concomitant exposure significantly (P less then 0.05) elevated levels of hepatic transaminases and alkaline phosphatase. Moreover, along with significant depletion in activities of ***, CAT, TTH, AChE, and enzymes of glutathione complex, a significant enhancement of lipid peroxidation was also recorded in liver and erythrocytes in co-exposed animals in a dose-dependent manner when compared with exposure to individual toxicant. To highlight the epidemiology and pathophysiology of hypertension and obesity in COVID-19 infection RECENT FINDINGS Hypertension and obesity have emerged as significant risk factors for contracting the COVID-19 virus and the subsequent severity of illness. ACE2 receptor expression and dysregulation of the RAAS pathway play important roles in the pathophysiology of these associations, as do the pro-inflammatory state and cytokine dysregulation seen in obesity. Some of these patterns have also been seen historically in other viral illnesses. Understanding the mechanisms behind the associations between COVID-19, hypertension, and obesity is important in developing effective targeted therapies and monitoring vaccine response and efficacy. We used a chicken embryo model to investigate the effects of two different forms of iron oxide-NPs (IONPs) on the mRNA expression of HSPB1, HSPB5, HSPB8, and HSPB9 in cerebral tissue. Two hundred-ten fertilized eggs were randomly divided into seven groups (30 eggs/group; 10 eggs/replicate). Three groups received 100 ppm, 250 ppm, and 500 ppm of Fe2O3-NPs, respectively. Three other groups received 100 ppm, 250 ppm, and 500 ppm of Fe3O4-NPs, respectively, and one group remained untreated as a control. The NPs were given by in ovo method (0.3 ml/egg) only once on the first day of the embryonic period. Samples from cerebrums were collected on day 20 for gene expression analyses. HSPB1, HSPB5, HSPB8, and HSPB9 were all expressed in both normal and IONPs exposed cerebrums. SHSPs tested were differentially expressed in response to various concentrations of IONPs. The highest expression levels in response to Fe2O3-NPs and Fe3O4-NPs were observed for HSPB5 and HSPB9, respectively. The greatest gene expression changes due to the Fe2O3-NPs and Fe3O4-NPs exposure observed for HSPB1 and HSPB5, respectively. Animals were exposed to either quinalphos (1/100th and 1/10th of LD50) through oral gavage daily or arsenic (50 and 100 ppb) in drinking water alone and in combination for 28 days. While treatment with different toxicants alone also significantly reduced hemoglobin concentration, hepatic biomarkers and levels of antioxidant parameters as compared with control values, concomitant exposure significantly (P less then 0.05) elevated levels of hepatic transaminases and alkaline phosphatase. Moreover, along with significant depletion in activities of SOD, CAT, TTH, AChE, and enzymes of glutathione complex, a significant enhancement of lipid peroxidation was also recorded in liver and erythrocytes in co-exposed animals in a dose-dependent manner when compared with exposure to individual toxicant. Neonatal populations are quite susceptible to drug-related problems (DRPs) because of clinical heterogeneity and clinical practice trends. However, studies reporting DRPs in the neonatal population are quite limited.
This study aimed to assess the magnitude and types of DRPs and determinant factors among neonates admitted with neonatal sepsis at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Jimma University Medical Center (JUMC), Ethiopia.
A hospital-based prospective observational study was conducted involving 201 neonates with sepsis admitted to the NICU from May to August 30, 2018. DRPs were classified using Cipolle's classification method. Statistical Package for Social Science Version 22 was employed for data analysis. Logistical regression was carried out to determine the determinants of DRPs. A p-value < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.
Of 201 neonates with sepsis included in this study, 125 (62.2%) were males and the median age of the neonate was 5 days. The mean (±stanere dose too high and need additional drug therapy. Combined use of other medicines with antibiotics was a predictor of DRP occurrence. The innovative way to tackle the occurrence of DRPs, such as the incorporation of clinical pharmacy service provider into the neonatal care team, which will prevent, detect and/or minimize the occurrence of DRPs, is highly recommended.
Monitoring sodium intake through 24-h urine collection sample is recommended, but the implementation of this method can be difficult. The objective of this study was to develop and validate an equation using spot urine concentration to predict 24-h sodium excretion in the Malaysian population.
This was a Malaysian Community Salt Study (MyCoSS) sub-study, which was conducted from October 2017 to March 2018. Out of 798 participants in the MyCoSS study who completed 24-h urine collection, 768 of them have collected one-time spot urine the following morning. They were randomly assigned into two groups to form separate spot urine equations. The final spot urine equation was derived from the entire data set after confirming the stability of the equation by double cross-validation in both study groups. Newly derived spot urine equation was developed using the coefficients from the multiple linear regression test. A Bland-Altman plot was used to measure the mean bias and limits of agreement between estimated and measured 24-h urine sodium. The estimation of sodium intake using the new equation was compared with other established equations, namely Tanaka and INTERSALT.

People with serious mental illnesses (SMI) such as schizophrenia often also have physical health illnesses and interventions are needed to address the resultant multimorbidity and reduced life expectancy. Research has shown that volunteers can support people with SMI. This protocol describes a feasibility randomised controlled trial (RCT) of a novel intervention involving volunteer 'Health Champions' supporting people with SMI to manage and improve their physical health.
This is a feasibility hybrid II randomised effectiveness-implementation controlled trial. The intervention involves training volunteers to be 'Health Champions' to support individual people with SMI using mental health services. This face-to-face or remote support will take place weekly and last for up to 9 months following initial introduction. This study will recruit 120 participants to compare Health Champions to treatment as usual for people with SMI using secondary community mental health services in South London, UK. We will measure the clinical and cost effectiveness including quality of life. We will measure the implementation outcomes of acceptability, feasibility, appropriateness, fidelity, barriers and enablers, unintended consequences, adoption and sustainability.
There is a need for interventions to support people with SMI with their physical health. If this feasibility trial is successful, a definitive trial will follow to fully evaluate the clinical, cost and implementation effectiveness of Health Champions supporting people with SMI.

The report of a patient with blepharospasm during the COVID-19 pandemic suggested a potential ameliorating effect of wearing a face mask.
We prospectively evaluated a possible symptom change through wearing a face mask in all consecutive patients with craniofacial hyperkinesias in our botulinum toxin outpatient treatment cohort.
Patients with craniofacial hyperkinesia were asked to rate changes of symptoms between - 2 (markedly worsened), - 1 (slightly worsened), 0 (no change), + 1 (slightly improved) and + 2 (markedly improved).
Of 101 patients (19 with blepharospasm [BSP], 54 with cervical dystonia [CD], 6 with oromandibular dystonia [OMD], and 22 with hemifacial spasm [HFS]) 81 (80%) rated no symptom change, 11 (11%) symptom improvement, and 9 (9%) symptom worsening. Improvements in 9 of the 82 dystonia patients (BSP, CD, OMD) consisted of a perceived decrease in dystonic activity. 33% of dystonia patients had previously noticed or used a sensory trick. Its presence turned out to be a significant predictor of improvement during mask wearing.

The management is essentially non-interventional based on compression therapy (CT) with physical exercise adapted to the severity of venous disease and edema. In addition to open endoaneurysmorrhaphy (EA) for treating the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), other approaches such as endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is gaining attention. Renal dysfunction could be a complication of these surgical techniques. We decided to compare renal function in EVAR vs. EA in patients operated for infrarenal AAAs.
Two groups of patients with AAA were included in this retrospective study. The first group (28 cases) consisted of patients who underwent AAA repair by EA technique and the second group included 12 patients who underwent EVAR for AAA repair. Serum creatinine levels measured one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year after the surgeries were documented. Through calculating the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and scoring by the RIFLE criteria (Risk, Injury, Failure, Loss of kidney function, and End-stage kidney disease), the patients' renal function was evaluated.
Of 40 patients included, three cases had diabetes mellitus (7.5%), 16 cases had hyperturing one year. It may be necessary to follow patients undergoing these surgeries for a longer period to understand the prognosis of these patients better.
Although 2-min step test (2MST) has been useful in general population, no study has investigated its validity in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD).
To analyze the validity and reliability of the 2MST in patients with PAD and claudication symptoms.
Twenty-four patients with PAD and claudication symptoms were recruited and performed the 2MST comparing it to the six-minute walk test (6MWT). Test performance, step indicators, and heart rate were measured during the test. Validity was verified using Pearson correlation between the performance of 2MST (number of steps) and 6MWT (distance and number of steps). The reliability was analyzed by the intraclass correlation coefficient and by the limits of agreement of Bland and Altman.
A similar performance was observed between the two 2MST (65 ± 10 steps vs. 66 ± 10 steps, p = 0.43) with a significant intraclass coefficient correlation of 0.945. The bias between tests was of 0.79 steps with the limits of agreement between -9.6 and 11.2 steps. The 90% minimum detectable difference was 3.2 steps. The number of steps in 2MST was significantly correlated with the number of steps in 6MWT (r = 0.55, p<0.01). However, the number of steps in 2MST did not correlate with distance in the 6MWT (r = 0.26, p = 0.23). The peak heart rate was lower in 2MST compared to 6MWT (p<0.05).

In this randomized controlled trial, a total of 89 patients undergoing transradial coronary angiography were recruited using convenience sampling. Then, the patients were assigned to two groups of intervention and control using blocked randomization, as those in the intervention group received video-based patient education and those in the control group received no training. Data were collected using the Persian version of the patient satisfaction questionnaire and the visual analog scale. The variables were measured before, 2, 4, and 8 hours after the angiography. The results indicated that, after the intervention, the mean scores of satisfaction and comfort in the intervention group were higher than in the control group (P less then .001). In addition to open endoaneurysmorrhaphy (EA) for treating the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), other approaches such as endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is gaining attention. Renal dysfunction could be a complication of these surgical techniques. We decided to compare renal function in EVAR vs. EA in patients operated for infrarenal AAAs. Two groups of patients with AAA were included in this retrospective study. The first group (28 cases) consisted of patients who underwent AAA repair by EA technique and the second group included 12 patients who underwent EVAR for AAA repair. Serum creatinine levels measured one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year after the surgeries were documented. Through calculating the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and scoring by the RIFLE criteria (Risk, Injury, Failure, Loss of kidney function, and End-stage kidney disease), the patients' renal function was evaluated. Of 40 patients included, three cases had diabetes mellitus (7.5%), 16 cases had hyperturing one year. It may be necessary to follow patients undergoing these surgeries for a longer period to understand the prognosis of these patients better. Although 2-min step test (2MST) has been useful in general population, no study has investigated its validity in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). To analyze the validity and reliability of the 2MST in patients with PAD and claudication symptoms. Twenty-four patients with PAD and claudication symptoms were recruited and performed the 2MST comparing it to the six-minute walk test (6MWT). Test performance, step indicators, and heart rate were measured during the test. Validity was verified using Pearson correlation between the performance of 2MST (number of steps) and 6MWT (distance and number of steps). The reliability was analyzed by the intraclass correlation coefficient and by the limits of agreement of Bland and Altman. A similar performance was observed between the two 2MST (65 ± 10 steps vs. 66 ± 10 steps, p = 0.43) with a significant intraclass coefficient correlation of 0.945. The bias between tests was of 0.79 steps with the limits of agreement between -9.6 and 11.2 steps. The 90% minimum detectable difference was 3.2 steps. The number of steps in 2MST was significantly correlated with the number of steps in 6MWT (r = 0.55, p<0.01). However, the number of steps in 2MST did not correlate with distance in the 6MWT (r = 0.26, p = 0.23). The peak heart rate was lower in 2MST compared to 6MWT (p<0.05). Then, the patients were assigned to two groups of intervention and control using blocked randomization, as those in the intervention group received video-based patient education and those in the control group received no training. Data were collected using the Persian version of the patient satisfaction questionnaire and the visual analog scale. The variables were measured before, 2, 4, and 8 hours after the angiography. The results indicated that, after the intervention, the mean scores of satisfaction and comfort in the intervention group were higher than in the control group (P less then .001). Such trends were examined by distinguishing different periods according to changes in regulations (new approval, withdrawal, or dose reduction), and were combined with data on effective rainfall as a proxy for groundwater recharge, on aquifer lithology, and on sales of active substances as a proxy for actual applications. A review of monthly data shows that a rapid transfer of pesticides with contrasting physico-chemical properties can occur after application in many aquifers, regardless of their lithology. For substances such as metolachlor, showing a sharp increase in sales, a clear relationship exists between quantities sold and frequency of exceeding the reference value. For other active substances, such as isoproturon or chlortoluron, frequencies of exceedance are governed by both sales and effective rainfall. Finally, the occurrence of active substances in groundwater several years after their withdrawal from the market is explained by at least three major mechanisms the transfer time from soil into groundwater, processes of remobilization from soil and/or unsaturated zone, and no or low degradation in the saturated zone. While these processes are well documented for atrazine and different types of aquifers, they can be virtually unknown for other active substances.The objective of this study was to evaluate the spatiotemporal dynamics of large area mangrove deforestation, aquaculture pond building, and the subsequent abandonment of ponds in a large delta in Indonesia, namely the Mahakam Delta. So, we developed and applied a novel methodology for exploring the lifespan of aquaculture ponds. Using historical multispectral and radar data, the lifespans of aquaculture ponds across the delta were estimated via a chronological analysis of the landscape into four different states primary mangroves → deforested mangroves → ponds → abandoned/inactive ponds. Specifically, a combination of sequential classification and rule-based techniques were used to 1) produce a time series of land cover maps from 1994 to 2015 and 2) quantify lifespans of aquaculture ponds in the delta. Results show that of the 110,000 ha of primary mangrove forests in the delta in 1994, 62% had been deforested by 2015, with a 4.5% annual rate of loss on average. The lifespan of aquaculture ponds in the delta varied between 1 and 22+ years, with most of the ponds having productive lifespans of 10 to 13 years.

The Good Health & Great Hair program was developed by Kaiser Permanente in partnership with a network of trusted neighborhood barbershops and beauty salons in West Baltimore, Maryland.
The initiative aimed to increase health awareness and knowledge and reduce health disparities by making no-cost health care services available beyond traditional health care settings in predominantly Black, historically redlined neighborhoods in West Baltimore.
This initiative, established by an integrated health care system, is the first to utilize mobile health clinics into a holistic community health outreach program in partnership with barbershops and beauty salons to provide medical and social services to underserved populations. In addition to the mobile health clinics, key features of this program included lay first responder trainings on topics of physical and behavioral health, on-site medical and social services offered by community partners, and culturally relevant mental health programming. The majority of and lessons learned could inform the design of similar programs.
The initiative delivered critical health and social support services through a partnership with an established integrated health care system, community barbershops and beauty salons, a mobile health team, and social supports. This novel program utilized a mobile health clinic to provide extensive clinical services complemented by on-site social services. Patterns of service utilization and lessons learned could inform the design of similar programs.
The aim of this study was to identify patterns of palliative chemotherapy (CTh) and the associated overall survival (OS) in patients with pancreatic cancer, with specific focus on age.
Between May 1, 2011, and April 30, 2016, 4260 patients were registered in the Danish Pancreatic Cancer Database. The 1715 patients receiving palliative CTh were retrieved. Age was grouped into less than 70, 70 to less than 75, and 75 years or more.
Of the 1715 patients receiving first-line CTh, 586 (34%) underwent second-line CTh and 151 (9%) third-line CTh. First-line gemcitabine resulted in a significant worse survival compared with combination CTh, hazard ratio 1.51. For combination CTh, OS differed between the age groups, P < 0.01. The median OS in the less than 70 years (n = 547), 70 to less than 75 years (n = 163), and 75 years or more (n = 67) groups were 9.3, 9.6, and 7.2 months, respectively. No differences in survival were observed among patients receiving first-line gemcitabine (P = 0.35).
Our findings are useful in treatment-related decision making in patients with pancreatic cancer. Cannabis legalization has increased its use. The incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP) and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) has also increased. In this study, data on pancreatitis were obtained from 2 states before and after cannabis legalization and compared with 2 states without legalized cannabis.
Data were extracted from State Inpatient Databases from the states of Colorado and Washington before recreational cannabis legalization (2011) and after legalization (2015). Arizona and Florida were used as the nonlegalized cannabis states. Multivariable logistic regression models were fit for AP and SAP to determine a trend difference between legalized and nonlegalized cannabis states.
Cannabis use, AP, and SAP increased in all states. The increase in AP and SAP was not significantly different between the states that legalized cannabis use and those that did not. Legalized cannabis states had lower charges for AP and SAP and shorter length of hospitalizations.

The aim of this study was to characterize the tumor microenvironment of patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors relative to progression-free survival (PFS).
Immune profiling for CD3, CD8, programmed death-1/programmed death-ligand 1, and indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase expression in 2 cohorts of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors patients with short PFS (<4 years, n = 12) versus long PFS (≥4 years, n = 14) after surgery. Immune infiltrates in the tumor and interface were quantified. Programmed death-ligand 1 expression was determined within the tumor, stroma, and interface.
Patients with shorter PFS had larger tumors (P = 0.02), mostly in the pancreas (P = 0.04). We observed a higher mean expression of CD3+, CD8+, programmed death-1+ cells, and indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase at the interface compared with the tumor log 10 mean differences 0.56 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.43-0.68; P < 0.0001), 0.45 (95% CI, 0.32-0.59; P = 0.0002), 0.50 (95% CI, 0.40-0.61; P < 0.0001), and 0.24 (95% CI, 0.03-0.46; P = 0.046), respectively. Patients with longer PFS had higher intratumoral CD3+ T cells, log 10 mean difference 0.38 (95% CI, 0.19-0.57; P = 0.004). From emergency planners to healthcare workers on the front line, and everyone in between, the pandemic, and the uncertainty surrounding it, was likely to become a significant stressor, one with no immediate solution but with the potential to cause enduring distress beyond its conclusion. The UK Defence Medical Services recognised the need to provide an evidence-based programme of care intended to support personnel transitioning from assisting the national response **** to normal duties. To examine contributory factors behind postpartum return-to-running and return to pre-pregnancy running level, in addition to risk factors for postpartum running-related stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
881 postpartum women completed an online questionnaire. Clinically and empirically derived questions were created relating to running experiences and multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial contributory factors. Logistic regression was used to determine predictors for return-to-running, returning to pre-pregnancy level of running and running-related SUI.
Median time to first postpartum run was 12 weeks. Running during pregnancy (OR 2.81 (1.90 to 4.15)), a high weekly running volume (OR 1.79 (1.22 to 2.63)), lower fear of movement (OR 0.53 (0.43 to 0.64)) and not suffering vaginal heaviness (OR 0.52 (0.35-0.76)) increased the odds of return-to-running. Factors that increased the odds of returning to pre-pregnancy running level were a low weekly running volume (OR 0.38 (0.26 to 0.56)), having more than one child (OR 2.09 (1.43 to 3.05)), lower fear of movement (OR 0.78 (0.65 to 0.94)), being younger (OR 0.79 (0.65 to 0.96)) and shorter time to running after childbirth (OR 0.74 (0.60 to 0.90)). The participants were subsequently categorized by their number and type of TMD symptoms. Data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis/Mann-Whitney U test (α=.05).
The mean age of the participants (N=961) was 32.99 ± 13.14 years, and 79.2% were women. Participants with more and all types of TMD symptoms generally exhibited significantly higher levels of psychological distress and worse OHRQoL (P < .001). Those with TMD pain plus temporomandibular joint (TMJ) sounds/dysfunction had significantly greater psychological distress, whereas those with painful symptoms and TMJ dysfunction experienced significantly more impairment in OHRQoL than individuals with only TMJ sounds.

As part of the search for biochemical markers of somatic embryogenesis in tissue cultures of olive (Olea europaea L.), peroxidases (POXs) in both the soluble and ionically wall-bound fractions were studied in two reputed olive cultivars (cvs.) "Picholine Marocaine" and "Dahbia". In order to carry out embryogenesis induction, proximal cotyledons were cultured in modified olive medium (OMc) supplemented with 25 μM indole-3-butylic acid (IBA) and 2.5 μM 2-isopentenyladenine (2iP), while distal leaf fragments (somatic explants) were cultured in OMc supplemented with 4.56 µM zeatin riboside (ZR) and 10.25 µM 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). Regarding embryogenic potentials, the zygotic explants (cv. Picholine Marocaine 43.39%; cv. Dahbia 53.41%) were more regenerative than the somatic explants (cv. Picholine Marocaine 13.05%; cv. Dahbia 19.51%). The enzyme assay showed a higher POX activity in embryogenic calluses (ECs) than in nonembryogenic calluses (NECs) for the zygotic explants in both studied cultivars. When expressed as units per milligram of proteins (U mg-1 proteins), the highest total POXs activities (soluble POXs + ionically wall-bound POXs) were found in the ECs derived from the zygotic explants; for cv. Dahbia, 65% of the enzyme activities came from the ionically wall-bound fractions. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis showed that the ECs of the highly active cv. Dahbia were characterized by highly active isoperoxidases that were revealed in four migration zones, particularly a doublet in the A4 zone (Rf 0.70-0.73) present in the ionically wall-bound POXs. The fast-moving anodic POXs of the ionically wall-bound fractions could be adopted as an early electrophoretic test to determine the embryogenesis capacities in olive tissue culture materials. The average load values within the FRC retainer groups were higher than within the metal retainer groups. The load values for the groups loaded from the axial direction were higher than those loaded from the buccal direction. FRC retainers, which were located 1-2 mm from the incisal edge, showed higher load values than those located 4-5 mm from the incisal edge. There was a significant difference in load values between FRC retainers and metal retainers (p less then 0.01). The wire position and the direction of force also had significant effects (p less then 0.01). There were no significant differences between metal retainer groups. BEM can be more efficient than EM because BEM calculates the forward and backward Bellman equations instead of the forward-backward algorithm up to the infinite horizon. However, BEM cannot always be more efficient than EM when the size of problems is large because BEM calculates an inverse matrix. We circumvent this shortcoming in MBEM by calculating the forward and backward Bellman equations without the inverse matrix. The effects on cells were evaluated through Wharton's jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cell (WJ-MSC) viability, alignment and tenogenic differentiation. The PCL/GT nanofibers were aligned and had a mean fiber diameter within 200-800 nm. Increasing the GT concentration reduced the water contact angle of the nanofibers. GT nanofibers alone degraded fastest, observed only within 2 days. Chemical composition analysis confirmed the presence of PCL and GT in the nanofibers.

Free energy calculations indicate a favorable electron transfer from semiquinone occurring at low rates under normal circumstances. In this paper, the normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) and the correlation coefficient (CC) are compared between the joint angle prediction results of the Gaussian process autoregressive model prediction and the actual joint angle under three test scenarios speed-dependent, multi-speed and speed-independent. Results Most participants reported an increase in sedentary behavior due to limitations on leaving their home and increased free time to pursue seated hobbies (e.g., reading, knitting, tv). However, many participants also reported increased levels of intentional physical activity and exercise, particularly outdoors or online. Participants also reported high levels of stress and a large decrease in in-person social connection. Virtual connection with others through phone and video was commonly used to stay connected with friends and family, engage in community groups and activities, and cope with stress and social isolation. Maintenance of a positive attitude and perspective gained from past hardships was also an important coping strategy for many participants. Discussion The COVID-19 pandemic and associated social distancing measures have impacted older adults' perceived levels of activity, stress, and social isolation, but many leveraged technology and prior life experiences to cope. These themes could inform future interventions for older adults dealing with chronic stress and isolation.This study investigates the drivers of the Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 equity returns during the COVID-19 crisis era. The paper considers various determinants of the equity returns from December 31, 2019, to February 19, 2021. It is observed that the United States Dollar (USD) and the volatility indices (VIX) negatively affect the S&P 500 equity returns. However, the newspaper-based infectious disease "equity market volatility tracker" is positively associated with the stock market returns. These results are robust to consider both the ordinary least squares (OLS) and the least angle regression (LARS) estimators.
Much of the metabolic molecular machinery responsible for energy transduction processes in living organisms revolves around a series of electron and proton transfer processes. The highly redox active enzymes can, however, also pose a risk of unwanted side reactions leading to reactive oxygen species, which are harmful to cells and are a factor in aging and age-related diseases. Using extensive quantum and classical computational modeling, we here show evidence of a particular superoxide production mechanism through stray reactions between molecular oxygen and a semiquinone reaction intermediate bound in the mitochondrial complex III of the electron transport chain, also known as the cytochrome b c 1 complex. Free energy calculations indicate a favorable electron transfer from semiquinone occurring at low rates under normal circumstances. Furthermore, simulations of the product state reveal that superoxide formed at the Q o -site exclusively leaves the b c 1 complex at the positive side of the membrane and escapes into the intermembrane space of mitochondria, providing a critical clue in further studies of the harmful effects of mitochondrial superoxide production.Ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) are a growing class of natural products that benefited from genome sequencing technology in the past two decades. The optimum chemical venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylactic agents following total hip and knee replacement (THR and TKR) remain unknown. NICE recommends multiple agents, including direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), low-molecular weight heparin (LMWH), and aspirin. We assessed whether VTE prophylaxis affected the risk of VTE and adverse events following primary THR and TKR.
We reviewed 982 elective primary THRs (59%) and TKRs (41%) at a large tertiary centre during 2018. The primary outcome was any VTE (DVT and/or PE) within 90-days. Secondary outcomes were adverse events within 90-days (major bleeding and wound complications). The association between VTE prophylaxis and outcomes was assessed.
The overall prevalence of VTE and adverse events were 2.7% (n=27) and 15.2% (n=136) respectively. The most common agents used were DOAC±LMWH (50.7%, n=498), followed by aspirin±LMWH (35.5%, n=349) and LMWH alone (4.7%, n=46). The risk of VTE (aspirin±LMWH=3.7%, DOAC=2.0%, LMWH=2.2%) was not significantly different between agents (p=0.294). The risk of any adverse event was significantly higher (p<0.001) with aspirin±LMWH (16.1%; n=56) and LMWH (28.3%; n=13) compared with DOACs±LMWH (7.0%; n=35) in TKRs only, there was no differences between agents for adverse events in THRs (p=0.644).

The pain and limitations associated with osteoarthritis of the hip and knee have a notable variation that does not correspond directly with pathophysiology. The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of location of the arthritis on pain intensity and magnitude of limitations accounting for personal and psychological factors.
One hundred and fifty four patients with osteoarthritis of the hip (41 patients) or the knee (113 patients) were enrolled in this prospective cross sectional cohort study. Patients answered questionnaires which included demographics, site of arthritis (hip or knee), laterality (unilateral or bilateral), pain intensity, Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Physical Function Computer Adaptive Test (PROMIS PF CAT), and psychologic questionnaires including the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-4), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS-4), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-2) and Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Depression Computer Adaptive Tng and kinesiophobia in particular, than to pathological and anatomical factors such as location and severity of arthritis. Care that incorporates incremental correction of common misconceptions that accompany the nociception from osteoarthritis have the potential to improve function and comfort in people with osteoarthritis.

The aim of this study was to determine number and type of failures and revisions after usage of a constrained tripolar acetabular liner in patients with high risk of dislocation. Potential correlations between these failures and the factors included were analyzed.
In this retrospective study 55 participants in 68 cases were included after treatment with constrained tripolar acetabular liner. Patient specific data as well as surgery and implant specific data were collected. Radiological images were assessed. Furthermore, the gluteal function was analyzed. The parameters were statistically verified with regard to their influence on the failure of the constrained tripolar liner.
This study included 16 cases (in nine participants) of postoperative failure. This results in a survival rate of 76.5% regarding the number of cases after 17 months. The statistical analysis of the different parameters considered that the number of previous surgeries has a significant (p=0.027) influence on the failure.
This retrospective study shows that treatment with constrained tripolar acetabular liners is a satisfactory method of treatment in cases with a high risk of dislocation. Reducing chemical pressure on human and environmental health is an integral part of the global sustainability agenda. Guidelines for deriving globally applicable, life cycle based indicators are required to consistently quantify toxicity impacts from chemical emissions as well as from chemicals in consumer products. In response, we elaborate the methodological framework and present recommendations for advancing near-field/far-field exposure and toxicity characterization, and for implementing these recommendations in the scientific consensus model USEtox.
An expert taskforce was convened by the Life Cycle Initiative hosted by UN Environment to expand existing guidance for evaluating human toxicity impacts from exposure to chemical substances. This taskforce evaluated advances since the original release of USEtox. Based on these advances, the taskforce identified two major aspects that required refinement, namely integrating near-field and far-field exposure and improving human dose-response modeling. Dedicated efforts have led to a set of recommendations to address these aspects in an update of USEtox, while ensuring consistency with the boundary conditions for characterizing life cycle toxicity impacts and being aligned with recommendations from agencies that regulate chemical exposure.
