This weight recidivism is often attributed to the lack of compliance with appropriate food habits and exercise. On the contrary, it is known that body weight and fat mass are regulated by numerous physiological mechanisms, far beyond voluntary food intake and physical exercise. Thus, the aim of this paper is to review the main peripheral and central mechanisms involved in weight regain. Gut hormone secretion profiles impact upon predisposition to weight regain according to an individual variability, although it is recognised a usual pattern of compensatory changes a reduction in anorectic hormones secretion and an increase in orexigenic hormone. These changes lead to both increased appetite and reward value of food leading to increased energye intake. In addition, resting energy expenditure after weight loss is lower than expected according to body composition changes. This gap between observed and predicted energy expenditure following weight loss is named metabolic adaptation, which has been suggested to explain partly weight regain. This complicated scenario, beyond patient motivation, makes weight regain a challenge in long-term management interventions in patients with obesity.A single-isocenter half-beam technique is commonly used when irradiating the chest wall and supraclavicular regions in patients with high-risk breast cancer. However, several studies have reported that underdosage can occur at the junction of the chest wall and supraclavicular regions due to a "tongue-and-groove" effect. This study verified the efficacy of an open leaf technique (OL-tech) that involves placing a multileaf collimator 5 mm outside from the beam central axis to remove the effect of the multileaf collimator in a single-isocenter half-beam technique. We compared the junction doses of the OL-tech with those of a conventional technique (C-tech) in square and clinical plans, using 4 and 10 MV x-rays in the Clinac iX and 6 and 10 MV x-rays in the Trilogy accelerators (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, CA). EBT3 radiochromic films were used for measurements. Measurements were performed at a depth of 3 cm when verifying field matching. The EBT3 films in the square plan indicated junction doses for the C-tech of 78.3% with the Clinac iX accelerator and 73.6% with the Trilogy accelerator. By contrast, the corresponding doses for the OL-tech were 107.2% and 99.8%, respectively. In the clinical plan, the junction doses for the C-tech were 76.5% with the Clinac iX accelerator and 72.6% with the Trilogy accelerator; the corresponding doses for the OL-tech were 108.3% and 101.7%, respectively. As with the square plan, variations in the junction dose were **** smaller using the OL-tech than using the C-tech. The film-treatment reduced significantly (p less then 0,05) the 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA) content of initial wine. This decrease became more noticeable as the contact time film-wine increased. Chromatic characteristics, phenolic and proanthocyanidin contents, and woody aroma profile did not change because of the film-treatment. A significant sorption of certain esters was observed, but as HAs were removed under detection thresholds, fruity perception of wines was improved. The profiles of H. bakeri and G. thoracica honey were close to each other, but clearly separated from T. binghami honey, consistent with their phylogenetic relationship. T. binghami honey is marked by significantly higher electrical conductivity, moisture and ash content, and high abundance of 2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexene-1-carboxaldehyde, 2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexene-1-acetaldehyde and ethyl 2-(5-methyl-5-vinyltetrahydrofuran-2-yl)propan-2-yl carbonate. Copaene was proposed as chemical marker for G. thoracica honey. The potential of different parameters that aid in honey authentication was highlighted.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are the two most prevalent age-related neurodegenerative diseases, and currently no effective clinical treatments exist for either, despite decades of clinical trials. The failure to translate preclinical findings into effective treatments is indicative of a problem in the current evaluation pipeline for potential therapeutics. At present, there are no useful animal models for AD and PD research that reflect the entire biology of the diseases, specifically, the more common non-Mendelian forms. Whereas the field continues to seek suitable rodent models for investigating potential therapeutics for these diseases, rodent models have still been used primarily for preclinical studies. Here, we advocate for a paradigm shift toward the application of human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived systems for PD and AD modeling and the development of improved human-based models in a dish for drug discovery and preclinical assessment of therapeutic targets.We evaluated the cardiac function recovery following skeletal myoblast cell-sheet transplantation and the long-term outcomes after applying this treatment in 23 patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy. We defined patients as "responders" when their left ventricular ejection fraction remained unchanged or improved at 6 months after treatment. At 6 months, 16 (69.6%) patients were defined as responders, and the average increase in left ventricular ejection fraction was 4.9%. The responders achieved greater improvement degrees in left ventricular and hemodynamic function parameters, and they presented improved exercise capacity. During the follow-up period (56 ± 28 months), there were four deaths and the overall 5-year survival rate was 95%. Although the responders showed higher freedom from mortality and/or heart failure admission (5-year, 81% versus 0%; p = 0.0002), both groups presented an excellent 5-year survival rate (5-year, 93% versus 100%; p = 0.297) that was higher than that predicted using the Seattle Heart Failure Model. The stepwise logistic regression analysis showed that the preoperative estimated glomerular filtration rate and the left ventricular end-systolic volume index were independently associated with the recovery progress. Approximately 70% of patients with "no-option" ischemic cardiomyopathy responded well to the cell-sheet transplantation. Preoperative renal and left ventricular function might predict the patients' response to this treatment.

Based on a systematic literature search we analyzed the absolute and risk-adjusted in-house lethality as well as the rate of complications and the failure to rescue after abdominal surgery in Germany. The hospitals were grouped in quintiles according to the volume of treatment.
11 studies including more than 2 million patients were identified and surgeries for the treatment of 9 disease conditions were studied. The meta-analysis shows a significantly lower absolute and risk-adjusted in-house mortality for surgery in hospitals with high treatment volumes compared to low volume hospitals. In the context of subgroup analysis, this effect is demonstrated especially for complex surgical procedures. The failure to rescue in patients suffering from sepsis is significantly lower in high volume centers compared to low volume centers.

Few studies have investigated the learning curves of minimally invasive donor nephrectomy (MIDN) using the cumulative sum (CUSUM) analysis. In addition, no study has compared the learning curves of the different surgical MIDN techniques in one cohort study using the CUSUM analysis. This study aims to evaluate and compare learning curves for several MIDN using the CUSUM analysis.
A retrospective review of consecutive donors, who underwent MIDN between 1997 and 2019, was conducted. Three laparoscopic-assisted techniques were applied in our institution and included for analysis laparoscopic (LDN), hand-assisted retroperitoneoscopic (HARP), and robot-assisted laparoscopic (RADN) donor nephrectomy. The outcomes were compared based on surgeon volume to develop learning curves for the operative time per surgeon.
Out of 1895 MIDN, 1365 (72.0%) were LDN, 427 (22.5%) were HARP, and 103 (5.4%) were RADN. The median operative time and median blood loss were 179 (IQR, 139-230) minutes and 100 (IQR, 40-200) mL, respectively. The incidence of major complication was 1.2% with no mortality, and the median hospital stay was three (IQR, 3-4) days. The CUSUM analysis resulted in learning curves, defined by decreased operative time, of 23 cases in LDN, 45 cases in HARP, and 26 cases in RADN.
Our study shows different learning curves in three MIDN techniques with equal post-operative complications. The LDN and RADN learning curves are shorter than that of the hand-assisted donor nephrectomy. Our observations can be helpful for informing the development of teaching requirements for fellows to be trained in MIDN.

In order to explore the role of membrane cholesterol (an essential and important lipid in higher eukaryotes) in GPCR endocytosis, we monitored the effect of acute cholesterol depletion using methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD) on endocytosis and intracellular trafficking of the serotonin1A receptor, an important neurotransmitter GPCR. Our results show that the serotonin1A receptor exhibits agonist-induced clathrin-mediated endocytosis with a concentration-dependent inhibition in internalization with increasing concentrations of MβCD, which was restored upon cholesterol replenishment.

The purpose of this study was to examine measurement invariance of the Subjective Happiness Scale across countries, gender, and age groups and across time by multigroup confirmatory factor analysis. Altogether, 4,977 participants from nine European, American, and Australian countries were included in the study. Our results revealed that both configural and metric invariance held across countries, but scalar invariance was only partially confirmed with one item yielding varying intercepts in different countries. Measurement invariance was also confirmed across gender and age groups. Longitudinal measurement invariance was examined on a subsample of 478 English-speaking participants and was fully confirmed across five consecutive assessment points. Factor means were compared between groups and across time, and good convergent validity of the Subjective Happiness Scale was found in relation to a measure of temporal satisfaction with life. Overall, our results demonstrate that self-reported happiness was measured similarly in nine different countries, gender and age groups and over time, and provide a solid foundation for meaningful cross-group and cross-time comparisons in subjective happiness.The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a major public health concern. Depression, anxiety and reduced self-efficacy are common psychological problems experienced by people living with HIV. We investigated the effects of a four-week, supervised aerobic exercise programme on depression, anxiety and self-efficacy of people living with HIV on HAART in Ibadan, Nigeria. A quasi-experimental design was used. Fifty-three eligible participants completed the study and only their data were analysed. The experimental subjects received aerobic exercise training for thirty minutes, three times per week for four weeks, alongside HAART, while control subjects were only on HAART. Depression, anxiety and self-efficacy scores were assessed at baseline and after the fourth week. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to summarise data, and inferential statistics of independent t-test was used to compare data between groups. At the end of the aerobic exercise programme, there was significant improvement in depression (p less then 0.001), anxiety (p less then 0.001) and self-efficacy scores (p = 0.042) in the experimental group, compared to the control group. More attention should be given to the prevention and management of psychological problems in people living with HIV through the use of aerobic exercise.The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of chlamydia or gonorrhea and factors associated with the diagnoses among people with HIV (PHIV) in the Ryan White Program Part A (RWP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida. We used 2017 calendar year data to identify factors associated with a chlamydia or gonorrhea diagnoses using logistic regression. About 50% of the 7110 PHIV who were ≥18 years old in active Ryan White care in 2017 reported being screened for chlamydia or gonorrhea. Of those screened, 2.3% reported diagnoses of chlamydia, gonorrhea or both. In the adjusted model, compared to PHIV ≥40 years-old, PHIV aged 18-24 and 25-39 years reported higher odds of diagnoses (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 4.29; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.73-10.63 and aOR 4.58; 95% CI; 2.62-7.99 respectively). The purpose of this study was to examine measurement invariance of the Subjective Happiness Scale across countries, gender, and age groups and across time by multigroup confirmatory factor analysis. Altogether, 4,977 participants from nine European, American, and Australian countries were included in the study. Our results revealed that both configural and metric invariance held across countries, but scalar invariance was only partially confirmed with one item yielding varying intercepts in different countries. Measurement invariance was also confirmed across gender and age groups. Longitudinal measurement invariance was examined on a subsample of 478 English-speaking participants and was fully confirmed across five consecutive assessment points. Factor means were compared between groups and across time, and good convergent validity of the Subjective Happiness Scale was found in relation to a measure of temporal satisfaction with life. Overall, our results demonstrate that self-reported happiness was measured similarly in nine different countries, gender and age groups and over time, and provide a solid foundation for meaningful cross-group and cross-time comparisons in subjective happiness.The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a major public health concern. Depression, anxiety and reduced self-efficacy are common psychological problems experienced by people living with HIV. We investigated the effects of a four-week, supervised aerobic exercise programme on depression, anxiety and self-efficacy of people living with HIV on HAART in Ibadan, Nigeria. A quasi-experimental design was used. Fifty-three eligible participants completed the study and only their data were analysed. The experimental subjects received aerobic exercise training for thirty minutes, three times per week for four weeks, alongside HAART, while control subjects were only on HAART. Depression, anxiety and self-efficacy scores were assessed at baseline and after the fourth week. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to summarise data, and inferential statistics of independent t-test was used to compare data between groups. At the end of the aerobic exercise programme, there was significant improvement in depression (p less then 0.001), anxiety (p less then 0.001) and self-efficacy scores (p = 0.042) in the experimental group, compared to the control group. More attention should be given to the prevention and management of psychological problems in people living with HIV through the use of aerobic exercise.The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of chlamydia or gonorrhea and factors associated with the diagnoses among people with HIV (PHIV) in the Ryan White Program Part A (RWP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida. We used 2017 calendar year data to identify factors associated with a chlamydia or gonorrhea diagnoses using logistic regression. About 50% of the 7110 PHIV who were ≥18 years old in active Ryan White care in 2017 reported being screened for chlamydia or gonorrhea. Of those screened, 2.3% reported diagnoses of chlamydia, gonorrhea or both. In the adjusted model, compared to PHIV ≥40 years-old, PHIV aged 18-24 and 25-39 years reported higher odds of diagnoses (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 4.29; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.73-10.63 and aOR 4.58; 95% CI; 2.62-7.99 respectively). Lateral flow immunoassays (LFIs) can be used to detect intact bacteria or spores; when gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are used as the signal reporters, the detection limits are very low. Spore-based surface display has been widely studied for enzyme immobilization and live-nontoxic oral vaccines. In this study, recombinant spores were used to improve the sensitivity of a LFI. We developed a test kit that combines streptavidin-displayed spores with a LFI assay for rapid protein detection. The recombinant spores served as a signal amplifier and AuNPs were used as the signal reporters. For detection of β-galactosidase, which was used as the model protein, the detection limit was about 10-15 mol, while that of the conventional LFI is about 10-12 mol. In both methods, nanogold was used as the colorimetric signal and could be observed with the naked eye. This method improved LFI sensitivity without sacrificing its advantages. Furthermore, enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP) was also displayed on the surface of the streptavidin-displayed spores. Without AuNPs, the fluorescent recombinant spores acted as the signal, which could be detected by a fluorescence detector, such as a fluorescence microscope. The detection limit was 10-16 mol under fluorescence microscopy whose magnification was 25-fold. Therefore, in conclusion, in this proof of concept study, the detection limits of both proposed methods were far superior to those of traditional LFI assay.A simple fluorescence detection platform has been established for acetamiprid assay based on DNA three-way junctions (TWJs), which can triple the fluorescence signal without any other amplification. Upon the addition of acetamiprid, the conformation of the aptamer-containing double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) changes from its original conformation and releases a strand of ssDNA. This ssDNA, with the other two ssDNAs, can assemble into DNA TWJs, and the three pairs of the branched ends of the DNA TWJs are adjacent to each other, allowing them to form three units of G-quadruplexes. Hence, the fluorescence of N-methyl mesoporphyrin IX (NMM) is lighted by the nascent G-quadruplexes. Graphene oxide (GO) is then added to minimize the detection background by absorbing the free NMM and non-target-induced ssDNA. The proposed strategy can assay acetamiprid in a wide linear range of 0-500 nM with a detection limit of 5.73 nM. More importantly, this assay platform demonstrates high potential for acetamiprid assay in food control and environmental monitoring.
Two chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies have been approved in the United States (USA) in 2017 and Europe (EU) in 2018 axicabtagene ciloleucel and tisagenlecleucel. They contain the patient's own T cells, which are extracted, genetically modified, and reinfused. Alongside the good efficacy results, the assessment of safety profile of these new therapies represents a great challenge. Our aim was to analyze the reports of the adverse drug reactions (ADR) after CAR-T administration as occurred in the real clinical setting.
We performed a retrospective observational study, collecting all the reports in EU (EudraVigilance, EV) and US (FAERS) databases of ADRs regarding axicabtagene ciloleucel and tisagenlecleucel. Both descriptive and statistical analyses were performed, the latter by using Reporting Odds Ratio (ROR).
A total number of 1426 reports of suspected ADRs were retrieved in EudraVigilance and FAERS. Patients' reported age reflected the age range for which the drugs are approved (18-64 years for axicabtagene ciloleucel and patients aged under 25 years for tisagenlecleucel). The most reported event was cytokine release syndrome (CRS), 185 events for tisagenlecleucel and 462 for axicabtagene ciloleucel in FAERS and 137 and 498, respectively, in EudraVigilance. A disproportionality was found comparing axicabtagene ciloleucel with tisagenlecleucel for the above-mentioned event EV ROR 2.47, 95% CI 2.22-2.74, FAERS 1.89, 1.70-2.10.

To investigate whether a newly developed dental composite with quaternary ammonium silica dioxide (QASi) nanoparticles incorporated with other fillers into the restorative material demonstrates antibacterial activity by reducing enamel demineralization in an in situ gap model.
Twenty subjects wearing a lower removable partial denture (RPD) with acrylic flanges on both sides of the mouth were recruited into the 4-week in situ study. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/8-bromo-camp.html The gap model consisted of an enamel slab placed next to a composite, separated by a 38-μm space. In the split-mouth design on one side of the RPD, the composite was the Nobio Infinix composite (Nobio Ltd., Kadima, Israel), and the contralateral side used a control composite. Each participant received enamel slabs from one tooth. The gap model was recessed into the RPD buccal flange, allowing microbial plaque to accumulate within the gap. After 4 weeks of continuous wearing, decalcification (∆Z mineral loss) of the enamel slabs adjacent to the gap was determined by cross-sectional microhardness testing in the laboratory.
The ∆Z for the antibacterial composite test side was 235±354 (mean±standard deviation [SD]; data reported from 17 participants) and statistically significantly lower compared to ∆Z of the control side (774±556; mean±SD) (paired t-test, P<0.0001; mean of test minus control -539 (SD=392), 95% confidence interval of difference -741, -338).
This in situ clinical study showed that composites with QASi antibacterial particles significantly reduced demineralization in enamel adjacent to a 38-μm gap over a 4-week period in comparison to a conventional composite.

Nevertheless, the current data provide a biological basis to the body of evidence demonstrating that the targeted marketing (real life palatable food cues) of SSB and other unhealthy foods to vulnerable populations, including children and people of color and low socioeconomic status, is increasing their risk for obesity. While the mechanisms for the association between SSB consumption and body weight gain cannot be identified, current scientific evidence strongly suggests that proactive environmental measures to reduce exposure to palatable food cues in the form of targeting marketing will decrease the risk of obesity in vulnerable populations.A network data envelopment analysis slack-based measure (NSBM) was applied to explore the thermal power generation environmental governance efficiency (TGGE) of 30 provinces in China except Tibet from 2006 to 2015, and then the threshold panel data model was established to study the nonlinear impact of cost-based environmental regulation (CER) on TGGE. The results show that (1) thermal power generation efficiency (TGE) is relatively low but shows a fluctuation growth trend, and TGGE is lower than thermal power generation production efficiency (TGPE); (2) CER has a significant single-threshold effect on the TGGE in China. When the proportion of CER to gross domestic production (GDP) is less than 3.023, the regulation has a significant positive effect on TGGE, while when the proportion of CER to GDP is larger than 3.023, the positive effect is greatly reduced from 0.073 to 0.002. The same conclusion can be obtained using the ratio of CER to gross industrial output value as the threshold variable, although with a different threshold value. From the average value of the sample period, for the vast majority of provinces, the effects of CER on TGGE are not significant. Based on these, relevant policy implications are presented to further promote TGGE.Despite the growing interest in researches on the impact of technological development on carbon emissions, the effect of technological innovation on the other indicators of environmental degradation is of little interest. In order to close this gap, the aim of this study is to determine the effects of technological innovation on both carbon emission and ecological footprint for big emerging markets (BEM) countries. In doing so, the environmental impacts of the financialization process are also explored, in line with the fact that these countries face constraints in financing technological developments. In this context, the effects of technological development, financialization, renewable energy consumption, and non-renewable energy consumption on environmental degradation are examined through the second-generation panel data methods for the period 1995-2016. The findings indicate that technological innovation is effective in reducing carbon emissions, but does not have a significant impact on the ecological footprint, namely a 1% increase in technological innovations reduces carbon emission by 0.082-0.088%. Moreover, it is found that financialization harms environmental quality for both indicators of the environment because a 1% increase in financialization increases carbon emissions by 0.203-0.222% and increases ecological footprint by 0.069-0.071%.Emissions from coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) have a negative impact on the environment and metals are one of the categories of substances that have received considerable attention. In the present study, atmospheric zinc (Zn) emissions from eight CFPPs with different kinds of boilers and air pollution control devices (APCDs) in Guizhou Province, Southwest China, were investigated as well as the partitioning of this metal among boilers and APCDs. During the investigation of a CFPP, samples were taken of input and output materials during the same period. Our results give a Zn content of 32-165 mg kg-1 for feed coal, 52-237 mg kg-1 for bottom ash, 108-725 mg kg-1 for fly ash, 1.2-6.0 mg kg-1 for limestone, 1.6-7.3 mg kg-1 for gypsum, and 1.39-7.06 μg Nm-3 for stack gas. Most of the zinc content in the feed coal goes with the flue gas after combustion and amounts to 94.2-96.1% and 60.5-78.1% for pulverized coal-fired boilers (PC) and circulating fluidized bed boilers (CFB), respectively. Based on input Zn, a larger share (80.8-96.4%) ends up the captured fly ash of PC boilers than the case of CFB boilers (66.1-73.6%). In turn, a minor portion is captured into the flue gas desulfurization gypsum, while we found a maximum of 0.05‰ is emitted into the atmosphere. The atmospheric emission factors (EMFs) of Zn for the eight CFPPs are 7.55-57.22 mg ton-1 coal, 4.17-22.75 μg (kWh)-1, or 0.39-2.36 g TJ-1 using different benchmarks. Overall, the calculated emission factors here are distinctively low with the upgrading of APCDs in recent years. While the mechanisms for the association between SSB consumption and body weight gain cannot be identified, current scientific evidence strongly suggests that proactive environmental measures to reduce exposure to palatable food cues in the form of targeting marketing will decrease the risk of obesity in vulnerable populations.A network data envelopment analysis slack-based measure (NSBM) was applied to explore the thermal power generation environmental governance efficiency (TGGE) of 30 provinces in China except Tibet from 2006 to 2015, and then the threshold panel data model was established to study the nonlinear impact of cost-based environmental regulation (CER) on TGGE. The results show that (1) thermal power generation efficiency (TGE) is relatively low but shows a fluctuation growth trend, and TGGE is lower than thermal power generation production efficiency (TGPE); (2) CER has a significant single-threshold effect on the TGGE in China. When the proportion of CER to gross domestic production (GDP) is less than 3.023, the regulation has a significant positive effect on TGGE, while when the proportion of CER to GDP is larger than 3.023, the positive effect is greatly reduced from 0.073 to 0.002. The same conclusion can be obtained using the ratio of CER to gross industrial output value as the threshold variable, although with a different threshold value. From the average value of the sample period, for the vast majority of provinces, the effects of CER on TGGE are not significant. Based on these, relevant policy implications are presented to further promote TGGE.Despite the growing interest in researches on the impact of technological development on carbon emissions, the effect of technological innovation on the other indicators of environmental degradation is of little interest. In order to close this gap, the aim of this study is to determine the effects of technological innovation on both carbon emission and ecological footprint for big emerging markets (BEM) countries. In doing so, the environmental impacts of the financialization process are also explored, in line with the fact that these countries face constraints in financing technological developments. In this context, the effects of technological development, financialization, renewable energy consumption, and non-renewable energy consumption on environmental degradation are examined through the second-generation panel data methods for the period 1995-2016. The findings indicate that technological innovation is effective in reducing carbon emissions, but does not have a significant impact on the ecological footprint, namely a 1% increase in technological innovations reduces carbon emission by 0.082-0.088%. Moreover, it is found that financialization harms environmental quality for both indicators of the environment because a 1% increase in financialization increases carbon emissions by 0.203-0.222% and increases ecological footprint by 0.069-0.071%.Emissions from coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) have a negative impact on the environment and metals are one of the categories of substances that have received considerable attention. In the present study, atmospheric zinc (Zn) emissions from eight CFPPs with different kinds of boilers and air pollution control devices (APCDs) in Guizhou Province, Southwest China, were investigated as well as the partitioning of this metal among boilers and APCDs. During the investigation of a CFPP, samples were taken of input and output materials during the same period. Our results give a Zn content of 32-165 mg kg-1 for feed coal, 52-237 mg kg-1 for bottom ash, 108-725 mg kg-1 for fly ash, 1.2-6.0 mg kg-1 for limestone, 1.6-7.3 mg kg-1 for gypsum, and 1.39-7.06 μg Nm-3 for stack gas. Most of the zinc content in the feed coal goes with the flue gas after combustion and amounts to 94.2-96.1% and 60.5-78.1% for pulverized coal-fired boilers (PC) and circulating fluidized bed boilers (CFB), respectively. Based on input Zn, a larger share (80.8-96.4%) ends up the captured fly ash of PC boilers than the case of CFB boilers (66.1-73.6%). In turn, a minor portion is captured into the flue gas desulfurization gypsum, while we found a maximum of 0.05‰ is emitted into the atmosphere. The atmospheric emission factors (EMFs) of Zn for the eight CFPPs are 7.55-57.22 mg ton-1 coal, 4.17-22.75 μg (kWh)-1, or 0.39-2.36 g TJ-1 using different benchmarks. Overall, the calculated emission factors here are distinctively low with the upgrading of APCDs in recent years. An estimation of 1276 ± 1047 kg year-1 (range 498-3777 kg year-1) of Zn is emitted into the atmosphere from the CFPPs of Guizhou Province in 2017 by coupling the EMFs obtained from this study and the coal consumption by this category of power plants.In order to calculate the spatial distribution of high-resolution air-pollutant levels, the land use regression (LUR) model can be an effective method due to the comprehensive consideration of various factors. Following transfection of the cells with miR-330 mimic, cell proliferation using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, cell migration by wound healing assay, and apoptosis by flow cytometry were evaluated. Quantitative real-time PCR was conducted to assess expression levels of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), MMP9, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS), Kirsten rat sarcoma virus (K-Ras), cellular Myc (c-Myc), and C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR-4) as metastatic genes in the progression of RCC. Results showed that miR-330 was downregulated in the Caki-1 cells compared with HK-2 cells (p less then 0.001). Upregulation of miR-330 obstructed in vitro expansion and migration, while it intensified apoptosis rate in the Caki-1 cells. Moreover, it was found that miR-330 transfection negatively modulated the expression of MMP2, MMP9, ADAMTS, K-Ras, c-Myc, and CXCR-4 in the Caki-1 cells. Our findings revealed that overexpression of miR-330 might provide an auxiliary treatment approach for overcoming invasion, progression, and metastasis in patients with RCC by enhancing cell apoptosis.
The 5-hydroxytryptamine type 3B receptor (HTR3B) is involved in postoperative vomiting. We aimed to investigate whether genomic variations of rs1176744 and rs1672717 in HTR3B are associated with postoperative vomiting (POV) in the Chinese Han female population after surgery.
Five hundred and sixty-eight female patients classified as ASA I-II undergoing breast surgery under standard general anaesthesia were enrolled in the study. Episodes of POV in the first 24h after surgery were recorded. Targeted single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the HTR3B gene were identified by genotyping using the SNPscan
technique. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to investigate the association between SNPs and POV.
We eventually analysed 407 subjects undergoing breast surgery under general anaesthesia. Of these, 104(25.6%) patients suffered POV within 24h after surgery. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, we found that age≥50years (p=0.012) and longer duration of surgery (p=0.019) were independent risk factors for POV. Simultaneously, in the dominant model of rs1672717, compared with the AA genotype, GG+GA carriers suffered more POV (OR=1.669, p=0.038). However, the use of atropine reduced the incidence of POV in our study (p=0.019).
Our investigation demonstrated that polymorphism of rs1672717 (HTR3B) may be a genetic risk factor for developing POV.

We tested the hypotheses that (a) hyperglycemia suppresses the metabolic rates of CTB and SCT; and (b) low placental metabolic activity from GDM placentas is due to decreased oxygen consumption of CTB. Trophoblast cells isolated from GDM and non-GDM term placentas were cultured for 8-hour (CTB) and following syncytialization at 72-hour (SCT) in 5 mM of glucose or 25 mM of glucose. Oxygen consumption rates, glycolysis, ATP levels, and lipid droplet morphometries were determined in CTB and SCT. In CTB from GDM placentas compared to control CTB (a) oxidative phosphorylation was decreased by 44% (41.8 vs 74.2 pmol O2 /min/100 ng DNA, P = .002); (b) ATP content was 39% lower (1.1 × 10-7 vs 1.8 × 10-7 nM/ng DNA, P = .046); and (c) lipid droplets were two times larger (31.0 vs 14.4 µm2 /cell, P less then .001) and 1.7 times more numerous (13.5 vs 7.9 lipid droplets/cell, P less then .001). Hyperglycemia suppressed CTB glycolysis by 55%-60% (mean difference 20.4 [GDM, P = .008] and 15.4 [non-GDM, P = .029] mpH/min/100 ng DNA). GDM SCT was not metabolically different from non-GDM SCT. However, GDM SCT had significantly decreased expression of genes associated with differentiation including hCG, GCM1, and syncytin-1. We conclude that suppressed metabolic activity by the GDM placenta is attributable to metabolic dysfunction of CTB, not SCT. We tested whether autistic adults would show selective difficulties across several tests of inferencing and social understanding in the context of average-range core language ability. One-hundred and ninety-one participants completed an online battery, and data were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis. Results showed that vocabulary knowledge was separate from other measures, which collectively formed a 'receptive communication' factor. Autistic people underperformed on the 'receptive communication' factor but showed more advanced vocabulary knowledge than non-autistic participants. Lower performance among autistic adults on the test battery predicted face-to-face communication difficulties measured by self-report and researcher ratings, with moderate effect sizes. Follow-up analysis indicated three further findings. We hypothesized that differences would arise from an isolated 'theory of mind' difficulty in autistic people, but instead the data suggested more general information-processing differences when making judgements about communicative stimuli. Second, substantial group differences on a test of implied meaning were only partly explained at the factor level, suggesting that multiple cognitive influences underpinned these differences. Finally, autistic women tended to perform better than autistic men. Our results support the idea of a subtle domain-level difference in pragmatics in autistic people, while questioning the basis of this difference and highlighting substantial variability in skills across groups.Removal of sulfur compounds from liquid fuel is one of the important issues in the field of energy and environment. Among the available methods, extractive desulfurization (EDS) is of great interest due to its convenient operating conditions. In this study, EDS performance of 4,7,10-trioxatridecane-1,13-diamine (TTD), a very low vapour pressure diamine-terminated oligomeric polyethylene glycol (PEG), was studied. Effect of the influencing factors, as well as multiple extraction, mutual solubility, reusability and regeneration of TTD were investigated. Results showed that the TTD/fuel volume ratio of 0.5 could extract benzothiophene, dibenzothiophene and dimethyl dibenzothiophene with the efficiencies 67%, 74% and 53%, respectively, in less than 1 min at ambient temperature. The distribution coefficient (KN ) value for removal of dibenzothiophene by TTD was 3.66 higher than that of PEG, and it is similar to KN values (approx. 4) for polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether (as a modified PEG) and Lewis acid-containing ionic liquids. It was observed that spent TTD after five cycles could be regenerated using the ****-extraction method. Also, deep EDS was achievable after three times extraction using fresh TTD. Finally, the extraction mechanism was studied using 1H-NMR. The developed hydrogel beads were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Effect of palygorskite (PGS) content on the swelling properties of hydrogel beads and BH cumulative release were discussed. The pH responsiveness of hydrogel beads was also investigated in different media. Results illustrated that swelling of hydrogel beads and BH cumulative release from hydrogel beads were obviously affected by PGS content. The swelling ratio and BH cumulative release of composite hydrogel beads remarkably slowed down with PGS content increasing in the range from 10 to 40 wt%. The composite hydrogel beads were pH-responsive. At pH 7.4, the swelling ratio and BH cumulative release from composite hydrogel beads were the fastest among the dissolution media of pH 1.2, pH 6.8 and pH 7.4. The BH cumulative release from hydrogel beads was related to the swelling and relaxation of composite hydrogel beads and could be fitted better by the Higuchi model. The present study investigated the post-breeding behaviour of three distant populations (Kerguelen Archipelago, southeastern Australia, New Zealand) of the common diving petrel (CDP) (Pelecanoides urinatrix), an abundant, widely distributed zooplanktivorous seabird breeding throughout the southern Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. The timing, geographical destination and activity pattern of birds were quantified through geolocator deployments during the post-breeding migration, while moult pattern of body feathers was investigated using stable isotope analysis. Despite the high energetic cost of flapping flight, all the individuals quickly travelled long distances (greater than approx. 2500 km) after the end of the breeding season, targeting oceanic frontal systems.

Results showed that vocabulary knowledge was separate from other measures, which collectively formed a 'receptive communication' factor. Autistic people underperformed on the 'receptive communication' factor but showed more advanced vocabulary knowledge than non-autistic participants. Lower performance among autistic adults on the test battery predicted face-to-face communication difficulties measured by self-report and researcher ratings, with moderate effect sizes. Follow-up analysis indicated three further findings. We hypothesized that differences would arise from an isolated 'theory of mind' difficulty in autistic people, but instead the data suggested more general information-processing differences when making judgements about communicative stimuli. Second, substantial group differences on a test of implied meaning were only partly explained at the factor level, suggesting that multiple cognitive influences underpinned these differences. Finally, autistic women tended to perform better than autistic men. Our results support the idea of a subtle domain-level difference in pragmatics in autistic people, while questioning the basis of this difference and highlighting substantial variability in skills across groups.Removal of sulfur compounds from liquid fuel is one of the important issues in the field of energy and environment. Among the available methods, extractive desulfurization (EDS) is of great interest due to its convenient operating conditions. In this study, EDS performance of 4,7,10-trioxatridecane-1,13-diamine (TTD), a very low vapour pressure diamine-terminated oligomeric polyethylene glycol (PEG), was studied. Effect of the influencing factors, as well as multiple extraction, mutual solubility, reusability and regeneration of TTD were investigated. Results showed that the TTD/fuel volume ratio of 0.5 could extract benzothiophene, dibenzothiophene and dimethyl dibenzothiophene with the efficiencies 67%, 74% and 53%, respectively, in less than 1 min at ambient temperature. The distribution coefficient (KN ) value for removal of dibenzothiophene by TTD was 3.66 higher than that of PEG, and it is similar to KN values (approx. 4) for polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether (as a modified PEG) and Lewis acid-containing ionic liquids. It was observed that spent TTD after five cycles could be regenerated using the back-extraction method. Also, deep EDS was achievable after three times extraction using fresh TTD. Finally, the extraction mechanism was studied using 1H-NMR. The developed hydrogel beads were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Effect of palygorskite (PGS) content on the swelling properties of hydrogel beads and BH cumulative release were discussed. The pH responsiveness of hydrogel beads was also investigated in different media. Results illustrated that swelling of hydrogel beads and BH cumulative release from hydrogel beads were obviously affected by PGS content. The swelling ratio and BH cumulative release of composite hydrogel beads remarkably slowed down with PGS content increasing in the range from 10 to 40 wt%. The composite hydrogel beads were pH-responsive. At pH 7.4, the swelling ratio and BH cumulative release from composite hydrogel beads were the fastest among the dissolution media of pH 1.2, pH 6.8 and pH 7.4. Data from the EpiDerm model showed positive micronucleus responses for all aneugens tested following topical or direct media dosing with similar sensitivity when adjusted for applied dose. Quantitative benchmark dose-response analysis exhibited increases in the mitotic index biomarkers phospho-H3 and MPM2 for tubulin binders and polyploidy for aurora kinase inhibitors are at least as sensitive as the micronucleus endpoint. By comparison, the aneugens tested did not induce histopathological changes, increases in Ki-67 immunolabeling or nuclear area in skin sections from the in vivo minipig study at doses in significant excess of those eliciting a response in vitro. Results indicate the EpiDerm in vitro micronucleus assay is suitable for the hazard identification of aneugens. The lack of response in the minipig studies indicates that the barrier function of the minipig skin, which is comparable to human skin, protects from the effects of aneugens in vivo. These results provide a basis for conducting additional studies in the future to further refine this understanding.
Knowledge of HIV/AIDS among the younger population is crucial for long-term control. Little research has been done on which groups of young women (aged 15-24 years) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have been left behind with respect to obtaining this knowledge.
To provide an up-to-date assessment of the levels of and changes in knowledge of HIV/AIDS and its associations with socioeconomic disparity among young women in LMICs.
This cross-sectional study used nationally representative Demographic and Health Surveys with available data on HIV/AIDS knowledge in 51 LMICs between 2003 and 2018. The final data set contained 282 757 young women. For 40 LMICs with multiple surveys available, we examined changes in knowledge and socioeconomic disparities. Analyses of the survey data were conducted between December 1, 2019, and July 31, 2020.
The percentage of young women who were able to (1) correctly identify the 2 major ways of preventing the sexual transmission of HIV, (2) reject the 2 most commonted that there was a significant increase in knowledge of HIV/AIDS among young women in 24 countries (60.0%), but a significant decrease in 10 countries (25.0%). Less than half of countries experienced significant reductions in disparities associated with residential area (8 countries [20.0%]), wealth (5 countries [12.5%]), or education (17 countries [42.5%]).

To assess the performance of an RCT-derived prognostic model that predicts survival among patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) when the model is applied to real-world data from electronic health records (EHRs).
The RCT-trained model and patient data from the RCTs were obtained from the Dialogue for Reverse Engineering Assessments and Methods (DREAM) challenge for prostate cancer, which occurred from March 16 to July 27, 2015. This challenge included 4 phase 3 clinical trials of patients with metastatic CRPC. Real-world data were obtained from the EHRs of a tertiary care academic medical center that includes a comprehensive cancer center. In this study, the DREAM challenge RCT-trained model was applied to real-world data from January 1, 2008, to December 31, 2019; the model was then retrained using EHR data with optimized feature selection.

Monitoring the residual toxicant concentrations in foods is the key step for minimizing potential hazards. The huge interest about food contamination and exposure to endocrine disruptors such as bisphenol A has emerged the development of sensitive analytical methodologies to guarantee the safety and quality of foods. In this work, a green molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction protocol coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection was optimized following the principles of green analytical chemistry. An imprinted sol-gel silica-based hybrid inorganic-organic polymeric sorbent was used to monitor the leaching of bisphenol A from different packaging materials (glass vessels, cans, and polypropylene containers) in walnuts stored within a period of 6 months at 25 and 4°C. Extraction parameters including loading time (5-20 min), solvent type (acetonitrile, ethanol, methanol, acetone, acetonitrilemethanol, 5050, v/v), and elution flow rate (0.2-1 mL/min) were optimized with one-factor-at-a-time method. Normalized peak areas derived from solid phase micro extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS) analysis, indicated that initial carbon content had a significant influence on the biosynthesis of ethanol and alcohols with greater than three carbon atoms. This result suggests a dominant activity of the A. pullulans anabolic pathway to biosynthesize three higher alcohols via de novo biosynthesis of amino acids from sugar metabolism. Low concentrations of carbon (3-13 g l-1 ) with nitrogen as both ammonium and amino acids in the growth medium resulted in a higher number of significant linear and quadratic relationships. Nitrogen availability and growth temperature had significant negative linear and quadratic correlations with VOCs biosynthesis in most instances. Isolate-dependant metabolic response was evident for all abiotic parameters tested on alcohol production. The findings of this study offer new perspectives to improve the production of key antifungal compounds by antagonists in biological control systems.
Clinicopathological features of cutaneous neurofibromas presenting as large irregularly shaped congenital café-au-lait macules (CALM) in Neurofibromatosis type1 (NF1) patients have not been well characterized. We aimed to analyze the histopathological findings of large "atypical" CALM in children with NF1.
In this retrospective observational study we analyzed histopathological and immunostaining features of 21 biopsy specimens from 18 large hyperpigmented macules with irregular borders with or without hypertrichosis present during the first months of life in NF1 diagnosed children.
Of the 21 biopsies, ten showed a diffuse neurofibroma pattern and four exhibited characteristics of plexiform neurofibroma (PNF). In twelve specimens we observed groups of fusiform cells arranged linearly mimicking a small caliber nerve trunk with abnormal morphology. Repeated biopsies from two of these lesions performed at different ages showed transformation to a plexiform pattern. An increased interstitial cellularity was observed in 17 samples that was more evident around eccrine glands in 16 or accompanying hair follicles and vascular structures in twelve samples. All these cells had immunoreactivity for S100-protein, CD68 and were Melan-A positive in 15 samples.

This study aimed to investigate the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in insulin-treated type1 diabetes patients administered sodium-glucose cotransporter2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in real-world clinical practice.
We carried out a real-world, retrospective, observational cohort study using Japanese Medical Data Vision, a diagnosis procedure combination database. We identified insulin-treated adult type1 diabetes patients enrolled from December 2018 to October 2019. We assessed the incidence and risk of DKA in type1 diabetes patients using SGLT2 inhibitors in an 'on-label' manner. Cox multivariate regression analyses were carried out to determine clinical factors linked to SGLT2 inhibitor-associated DKA.
Of 11,475 type1 diabetes patients, 1,898 (16.5%) were prescribed SGLT2 inhibitors. DKA occurred in 139 (7.3%) of these patients, with 20.2 incidences per 100 person-years. Normalized peak areas derived from solid phase micro extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS) analysis, indicated that initial carbon content had a significant influence on the biosynthesis of ethanol and alcohols with greater than three carbon atoms. This result suggests a dominant activity of the A. pullulans anabolic pathway to biosynthesize three higher alcohols via de novo biosynthesis of amino acids from sugar metabolism. Low concentrations of carbon (3-13 g l-1 ) with nitrogen as both ammonium and amino acids in the growth medium resulted in a higher number of significant linear and quadratic relationships. Nitrogen availability and growth temperature had significant negative linear and quadratic correlations with VOCs biosynthesis in most instances. Isolate-dependant metabolic response was evident for all abiotic parameters tested on alcohol production. The findings of this study offer new perspectives to improve the production of key antifungal compounds by antagonists in biological control systems. Clinicopathological features of cutaneous neurofibromas presenting as large irregularly shaped congenital café-au-lait macules (CALM) in Neurofibromatosis type1 (NF1) patients have not been well characterized. We aimed to analyze the histopathological findings of large "atypical" CALM in children with NF1. In this retrospective observational study we analyzed histopathological and immunostaining features of 21 biopsy specimens from 18 large hyperpigmented macules with irregular borders with or without hypertrichosis present during the first months of life in NF1 diagnosed children. Of the 21 biopsies, ten showed a diffuse neurofibroma pattern and four exhibited characteristics of plexiform neurofibroma (PNF). In twelve specimens we observed groups of fusiform cells arranged linearly mimicking a small caliber nerve trunk with abnormal morphology. Repeated biopsies from two of these lesions performed at different ages showed transformation to a plexiform pattern. An increased interstitial cellularity was observed in 17 samples that was more evident around eccrine glands in 16 or accompanying hair follicles and vascular structures in twelve samples. All these cells had immunoreactivity for S100-protein, CD68 and were Melan-A positive in 15 samples. This study aimed to investigate the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in insulin-treated type1 diabetes patients administered sodium-glucose cotransporter2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in real-world clinical practice. We carried out a real-world, retrospective, observational cohort study using Japanese Medical Data Vision, a diagnosis procedure combination database. We identified insulin-treated adult type1 diabetes patients enrolled from December 2018 to October 2019. We assessed the incidence and risk of DKA in type1 diabetes patients using SGLT2 inhibitors in an 'on-label' manner. Cox multivariate regression analyses were carried out to determine clinical factors linked to SGLT2 inhibitor-associated DKA. Of 11,475 type1 diabetes patients, 1,898 (16.5%) were prescribed SGLT2 inhibitors. DKA occurred in 139 (7.3%) of these patients, with 20.2 incidences per 100 person-years. Recently, 2D Pd-based nanomaterials with single or few atom thickness have attracted increasing interest as potential candidates for both the ORR and FOR, owing to their remarkable advantages, including high intrinsic activity, high electron mobility, and straightforward surface functionalization. In this review, the recent advances in 2D Pd-based nanomaterials for the FOR and ORR are summarized. A fundamental understanding of the FOR and ORR is elaborated.
