    Increased risk of schistosomiasis in peri-urban and urban towns is not uncommon. An epidemiological survey was carried out in the Tiko Health District (THD), an unmapped transmission focus for urogenital schistosomiasis (UGS), to assess the distribution, intensity, and risk factors associated with the occurrence of UGS.

FXR (Farnesoid X receptor), a ligand-activated transcription factor, has several anti-tumor effects and has been shown to target CSCs. Here, we aimed at evaluating the role of FXR in the regulation of the cell division of CSCs.

To understand the association between formaldehyde exposure and leukemia, we explored biological networks based on formaldehyde-related genes retrieved from public and commercial databases. Through the literature-based network approach, we summarized qualitative associations between formaldehyde exposure and leukemia. Our results indicate that oxidative stress-mediated genetic changes induced by formaldehyde could disturb the hematopoietic system, possibly leading to leukemia. Furthermore, we suggested major genes that are thought to be affected by formaldehyde exposure and associated with leukemia development. Our suggestions can be used to complement experimental data for understanding and identifying the leukemogenic mechanism of formaldehyde.

  • Biochar prepared by co-pyrolysis of nano-zero-valent iron and sewage sludge (nZVISB) was used to remove As(Ⅴ) from aqueous solution. When the initial pH was 2, the initial As(Ⅴ) concentration was 20 mg L-1, the dose of nZVISB was 10 g L-1, the contact time was 24 h, and the adsorption temperature was 298K, the removal efficiency of As(Ⅴ) was greater than 99%. The isothermal removal of As(Ⅴ) followed the Freundlich model better, and the maximum adsorption capacity of As(Ⅴ) was 60.61 mg g-1. The removal process of As(Ⅴ) could be better described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the rate-controlling step should be liquid film diffusion and chemical reaction. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the removal of As(Ⅴ) was a spontaneous and endothermic process dominated by chemical adsorption. The water-resistant properties of many plant-based straws, however, may be attributed to the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) during manufacturing. Among methods of oil spill recovery, porous materials have emerged as potential absorbents possessing the capacity of absorbing spilled oil at a fast rate, high adsorption capacity, good selectivity, and high reusability. In this review paper, two types of polymer-based porous absorbents modified surface and structure were introduced for the treatment strategy of the oil-polluted water. In addition, the absorption mechanism and factors affecting the adsorption capacity for oils and organic solvents were thoroughly analyzed. More importantly, characteristics of polymer-based porous materials were discussed in detail based on microstructure analysis, absorption efficiency, and reusability.
    Biochar prepared by co-pyrolysis of nano-zero-valent iron and sewage sludge (nZVISB) was used to remove As(Ⅴ) from aqueous solution. When the initial pH was 2, the initial As(Ⅴ) concentration was 20 mg L-1, the dose of nZVISB was 10 g L-1, the contact time was 24 h, and the adsorption temperature was 298K, the removal efficiency of As(Ⅴ) was greater than 99%. The isothermal removal of As(Ⅴ) followed the Freundlich model better, and the maximum adsorption capacity of As(Ⅴ) was 60.61 mg g-1. The removal process of As(Ⅴ) could be better described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the rate-controlling step should be liquid film diffusion and chemical reaction. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the removal of As(Ⅴ) was a spontaneous and endothermic process dominated by chemical adsorption. Patient-centered strategies for type 2 diabetes mellitus care must consider these psychosocial factors to improve disease control and quality of life.Foreign body aspiration is a rare but life-threatening event. Most accidental aspiration events occur in children. In adults, it can represent up to 25% of cases. Bronchoscopy remains the gold standard for diagnosing and treating foreign body aspiration from the lower respiratory tract. A 63-year-old female smoker with a history of chronic alcoholism and exposure to pyrotechnic smoke presented a productive cough, with whitish expectoration, dyspnea and pleuritic chest pain on the right side. On chest X-ray, she presented opacity in 2/3 of the right hemithorax. Computed axial tomography revealed consolidation with an air bronchogram on the right hemithorax, cylindrical bronchiectasis, ground glass pattern and centrilobular nodules. Bronchoscopic examination revealed a foreign body covered with granulation tissue in the right segmental bronchus (B6). The granulation tissue was integrated into the foreign body. In a second attempt, the foreign body could be removed, which was of bone consistency, seemingly a bird bone, confirmed by pathological anatomy results. After further questioning, the patient reported that two years before, she had choked when eating chicken. She had a cough and an episode of hemoptysis, but she chose not to ask for medical advice.
    This living systematic review aims to provide a timely, rigorous, and continuously updated summary of the evidence available on the role of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) in the treatment of patients with COVID-19.

    We conducted searches in PubMed/Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), grey literature and in a centralized repository in L·OVE (Living OVerview of Evidence), which retrieves articles from multiple sources such as PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, among other pre-print and protocols repositories. In response to the COVID-19 emergency, L·OVE (Living OVerview of Evidence) was adapted to expand the range of evidence and customized to group all COVID-19 evidence in one place on a daily search basis. The search covered a period of time up to July 31, 2020.

    We adapted an already published standard protocol for multiple parallel living systematic reviews to this questptor blockers for patients with COVID-19.

    We did not find a randomized clinical trial meeting our inclusion criteria, and hence there is no evidence for supporting the role of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers in the treatment of patients with COVID-19. The factors that can increase the certainty of the evidence are dose-response gradient, large magnitude of an effect, and effect of plausible residual confounding. Finally, the Summary of Findings tables summarize the process in a simplified way and with controlled language.     Lymphomatosis cerebri is a rare form of primary central nervous system lymphoma characterized by an atypical clinical presentation and neuroimaging, with a poor short-term prognosis.

    A 51-year-old woman began with clinical manifestations characterized by rapidly progressing cognitive impairment associated with a behavioral disorder, myoclonus, and gait disturbance. The brain magnetic resonance image showed extensive signaling in the bilateral periventricular white matter. The 18F-FDG PET-CT showed severe dorsolateral neocortical hypometabolism in the absence of focal hypermetabolic lesion, a metabolic pattern indicative of cerebri lymphomatosis. A brain biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. The patient started chemotherapy achieving complete remission. Eighteen months after diagnosis, the patient had improved clinically and neuroimaging.

    This is the first report in Peru of an entity that should be considered in rapidly progressive dementia and leukoencephalopathy cases. Timely diagnosis and appropriate chemotherapy management can increase patient survival.

  • Contradicting expectations, a non-medical journal received increasing submissions during the pandemic, even though laboratories remained closed.Peer reviewers and handling editors were both more responsive and provided faster turnaround times during 2020.The reasons for increased submission to the journal may have been due to reanalysis of older data or extracting more findings from research done pre-pandemic.The global pandemic caused by the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) has led to a dramatic increase in medical waste worldwide. This tremendous increase in medical waste is an important transmission medium for the virus and thus poses new and serious challenges to urban medical waste management. This study investigates the response of medical waste management to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent changes in Wuhan City based on the most detailed data available, including waste generation, storage, transportation, and disposal. The results show that despite a 5-fold increase in the demand for daily medical waste disposal in the peak period, the quick responses in the storage, transportation, and disposal sectors during the pandemic ensured that all medical waste was disposed of within 24 hours of generation. Furthermore, this paper discusses medical waste management during future emergencies in Wuhan. The ability of the medical waste management system in Wuhan to successfully cope with the rapid increase in medical waste caused by major public health emergencies has important implications for other cities suffering from the pandemic and demonstrates the need to establish resilient medical emergency systems in urban areas.Based on the supernetwork theory, a two-step rumor detection model was proposed. The first step was the classification of users on the basis of user-based features. In the second step, non-user-based features, including psychology-based features, content-based features, and parts of supernetwork-based features, were used to detect rumors posted by different types of users.     Contradicting expectations, a non-medical journal received increasing submissions during the pandemic, even though laboratories remained closed.Peer reviewers and handling editors were both more responsive and provided faster turnaround times during 2020.The reasons for increased submission to the journal may have been due to reanalysis of older data or extracting more findings from research done pre-pandemic.The global pandemic caused by the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) has led to a dramatic increase in medical waste worldwide. This tremendous increase in medical waste is an important transmission medium for the virus and thus poses new and serious challenges to urban medical waste management. This study investigates the response of medical waste management to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent changes in Wuhan City based on the most detailed data available, including waste generation, storage, transportation, and disposal. The results show that despite a 5-fold increase in the demand for daily medical waste disposal in the peak period, the quick responses in the storage, transportation, and disposal sectors during the pandemic ensured that all medical waste was disposed of within 24 hours of generation. Furthermore, this paper discusses medical waste management during future emergencies in Wuhan. The ability of the medical waste management system in Wuhan to successfully cope with the rapid increase in medical waste caused by major public health emergencies has important implications for other cities suffering from the pandemic and demonstrates the need to establish resilient medical emergency systems in urban areas.Based on the supernetwork theory, a two-step rumor detection model was proposed. The first step was the classification of users on the basis of user-based features. In the second step, non-user-based features, including psychology-based features, content-based features, and parts of supernetwork-based features, were used to detect rumors posted by different types of users. Four machine learning methods, namely, Naive Bayes, Neural Network, Support Vector Machine, and Logistic Regression, were applied to train the classifier. Then, visual vocabulary is built by reducing the number of feature descriptors via quantization of feature space using the K-means clustering algorithm.   • In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, replicative life span (RLS) is primarily affected by the stability of ribosomal DNA (rDNA). The stability of the highly repetitive rDNA array is maintained through transcriptional silencing by the NAD+-dependent histone deacetylase Sir2. Recently, the loss of Smi1, a protein of unknown molecular function that has been proposed to be involved in cell wall synthesis, has been demonstrated to extend RLS in S. cerevisiae, but the mechanism by which Smi1 regulates RLS has not been elucidated. In this study, we determined that the loss of Smi1 extends RLS in a Sir2-dependent manner. We observed that the smi1Δ mutation enhances transcriptional silencing at the rDNA locus and promotes rDNA stability. In the absence of Smi1, the stress-responsive transcription factor Msn2 translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, and nuclear-accumulated Msn2 stimulates the expression of nicotinamidase Pnc1, which serves as an activator of Sir2. In addition, we observed that the MAP kinase Hog1 is activated in smi1Δ cells and that the activation of Hog1 induces the translocation of Msn2 into the nucleus. We showed that GPR56 overexpression in 293T cells leads to increased phosphorylation of Src, Fak, and paxillin adhesion proteins and activation of the Gα12/13-RhoA-mediated serum response factor (SRF) pathway. Treatment with the mAb potentiated Src-Fak phosphorylation, RhoA-SRF signaling, and cell adhesion. The core of innovation is the creation of new ideas and use of existing ideas in new ways or in new settings. Today, innovation and fresh thinking are more important than ever as the world is changing rapidly and complexity is the norm. Nurse leaders are called to action to create the insights, cultures, structures and methodologies needed to promote the development and uptake of innovative ideas in nursing practice and interdisciplinary team work. This paper highlights three successful examples of nursing leadership in the development of a culture of innovation at the national (SE Health), provincial (Registered Nurses Foundation of Ontario's Nurse Innovator Awards) and local (Sinai Health) levels. The goal of these initiatives is to cultivate innovation as a way of being, thinking and doing, ensuring that it is inherent in nursing culture and visible in nursing practice, education and research that enhances patients' and care partners' experiences.

  • Agarose is a linear polysaccharide composed of D-galactose and 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose (AHG). It is a major component of the red algal cell wall and is gaining attention as an abundant marine biomass. However, the inability to ferment AHG is considered an obstacle in the large-scale use of agarose and could be addressed by understanding AHG catabolism in agarolytic microorganisms. Since AHG catabolism was uniquely confirmed in Vibrio sp. EJY3, a gram-negative marine bacterial species, we investigated AHG metabolism in Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2), an agarolytic gram-positive soil bacterium. Based on genomic data, the SCO3486 protein (492 amino acids) and the SCO3480 protein (361 amino acids) of S. coelicolor A3(2) showed identity with H2IFE7.1 (40% identity) encoding AHG dehydrogenase and H2IFX0.1 (42% identity) encoding 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate cycloisomerase, respectively, which are involved in the initial catabolism of AHG in Vibrio sp. EJY3. Thin layer chromatography and mass spectrometry of the bioconversion products catalyzed by recombinant SCO3486 and SCO3480 proteins, revealed that SCO3486 is an AHG dehydrogenase that oxidizes AHG to 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate, and SCO3480 is a 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate cycloisomerase that converts 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate to 2-keto-3-deoxygalactonate. SCO3486 showed maximum activity at pH 6.0 at 50°C, increased activity in the presence of iron ions, and activity against various aldehyde substrates, which is quite distinct from AHG-specific H2IFE7.1 in Vibrio sp. EJY3. Therefore, the catabolic pathway of AHG seems to be similar in most agar-degrading microorganisms, but the enzymes involved appear to be very diverse.Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients with diabetes constitute a subgroup of patients with a high rate of liver-related complications. However, its role in esophageal carcinoma carcinogenesis remains unclear. In this study, MT1M expression was correlated with tumor type, stage, drinking and smoking history, as well as patient survival. We also studied the regulation and biological function of MT1M in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). We have found that MT1M is significantly downregulated in ESCC tissues compared with adjacent non-cancer tissues. Furthermore, restoration of expression by treatment with the demethylation agent A + T showed that MT1M downregulation might be closely related to hypermethylation in its promoter region. Over-expression of MT1M in ESCC cells significantly altered cell morphology, induced apoptosis, and reduced colony formation, cell viability, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Moreover, based on reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, a superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) activity assay and protein analysis, we verified that the tumor-suppressive function of MT1M was at least partially caused by its upregulation of ROS levels, downregulation of SOD1 activity and phosphorylation of the SOD1 downstream pathway PI3K/AKT. Based on genomic data, the SCO3486 protein (492 amino acids) and the SCO3480 protein (361 amino acids) of S. coelicolor A3(2) showed identity with H2IFE7.1 (40% identity) encoding AHG dehydrogenase and H2IFX0.1 (42% identity) encoding 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate cycloisomerase, respectively, which are involved in the initial catabolism of AHG in Vibrio sp. EJY3. Thin layer chromatography and mass spectrometry of the bioconversion products catalyzed by recombinant SCO3486 and SCO3480 proteins, revealed that SCO3486 is an AHG dehydrogenase that oxidizes AHG to 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate, and SCO3480 is a 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate cycloisomerase that converts 3,6-anhydro-L-galactonate to 2-keto-3-deoxygalactonate.   • Integration of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) into a simultaneous device calls for adaptations of the radio frequency (RF) shielding concept. Conventional PET module housings fully encase the entire PET detector to reduce mutual interference. Excluding passive components, i.e. scintillators, from the housings, offers integration advantages, e.g. by reducing the overall housing volume or utilizing bigger scintillators. However, locating the scintillator outside of the RF shielding requires an optically transparent RF shielding interface between the scintillators and the photodetector to close the aperture. Therefore, a careful evaluation and selection of RF materials is essential to ensure an excellent PET/MRI system performance. To this end, we examined 10 materials (coated glasses, coated foils, meshes). The shielding effectiveness (SE) was evaluated at 100 and 300 MHz. PET performance was tested for single event registration and coincident events by integrating the material into the PET detector stack between the digital silicon photomultiplier photodetector array and one-to-one coupled scintillator. We determined photon attenuation (PA), energy resolution (dE/E), and coincidence resolving time (CRT) and compared to reference measurements for each material group. MRI compatibility was assessed by analyzing the material influence on the main magnetic field (B0) homogeneity. The coated glasses and foils exhibited SEs of up to 25 dB at 300 MHz. Both had a PA 58% with a higher impact on dE/E and CRT. Only one mesh affected B0homogeneity. Overall, we recommend the coated foil HS 9400 for integration concepts as it exhibited a good performance with SE = 25 dB, PA = 22%, resulting in a PET performance of dE/E = 12% and CRT = 274 ps.Objective.Developments in electroencephalography (EEG) technology have allowed the use of the brain-computer interface (BCI) outside dedicated labratories. Here, based on previous modeling studies, we develop an improved device with smaller microwell dimensions, decreased spacing between the microwells and reduced membrane thickness and investigate its performancein vitroandin vivo. This improved device allows for encapsulating higher islet numbers without islet aggregation and by applying anin vivoimaging system we demonstrate very good perfusion of the device when implanted intraperitoneally in ****. Besides, when it is implanted subcutaneously in ****, islet viability is maintained and a vascular network in close proximity to the device is developed.

Regarding reliability, we applied traditional (i.e., internal consistency at each week) and novel methods that allow for examination of the reliability of both within- and between-person change (i.e., variance partitioning based on generalizability theory). We examined longitudinal concurrent validity by correlating per-person slopes of obsessive-compulsive and depression symptom measures obtained via mixed-effects models. Within-person change reliability was acceptable or good for the YBOCS and DOCS total scores (.77, .83), suggesting that these measures are capable of capturing meaningful changes that exist within persons over time, and between-person change reliability was excellent (.99-1.0). Per-person slopes analyses supported the longitudinal concurrent validity of both measures. Our data support the continued use of the YBOCS and DOCS as measures of obsessive-compulsive symptoms for the purpose of many longitudinal research questions. Regarding reliability, we applied traditional (i.e., internal consistency at each week) and novel methods that allow for examination of the reliability of both within- and between-person change (i.e., variance partitioning based on generalizability theory). We examined longitudinal concurrent validity by correlating per-person slopes of obsessive-compulsive and depression symptom measures obtained via mixed-effects models. Within-person change reliability was acceptable or good for the YBOCS and DOCS total scores (.77, .83), suggesting that these measures are capable of capturing meaningful changes that exist within persons over time, and between-person change reliability was excellent (.99-1.0). Per-person slopes analyses supported the longitudinal concurrent validity of both measures. Our data support the continued use of the YBOCS and DOCS as measures of obsessive-compulsive symptoms for the purpose of many longitudinal research questions. The current study provides a template for reestablishing the psychometric properties of other commonly used measures in the context of longitudinal investigations.
