We estimated that a 1 standard deviation increase in the school average social capital for grade 5 is associated with an odds ratio of .86 (95% credible interval .75-.98) for school-level smoking in grade 10. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that school social capital in late elementary years is associated with reduced smoking behaviors among adolescents in the U.S. Influencing school social capital through enrichment of positive social norms and parent/teacher expectations may be a useful strategy to reduce adolescent smoking, with long-term implications for adult health. BACKGROUND Preoperative chemotherapy has shown benefits for locally advanced and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has also been attempted in resectable pancreatic cancer (RPC); however, its role remains controversial. Eleven studies were included in the final meta-analysis. The quality assessment of the included studies was based on the Newcastle-Ottawa quality scale. Data of the unresectable rate, R0 resection rate, and positive lymph node rate were also extracted in each study for further analysis. Pooled hazard ratio (HR), odds ratio (OR), andy be associated with a lower resection rate; however, it is associated with an increased R0 resection rate and lymph node negative rate. Although overall survival was similar in patients with or without NAC, gemcitabine-based NAC might provide longer overall survival. Further large-volume, randomized controlled trials are needed to validate the improved prognosis of patients undergoing NAC. Drugs acting on the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) may have beneficial effects on mental health. We investigated whether use of drugs acting on the RAS, as add-on to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), was associated with a reduced risk of psychiatric hospital contacts. We identified all individuals initiating treatment with an SSRI between 1997 and 2012. Individuals using an SSRI without concomitant use of a RAS drug (SSRI-only users) were propensity score matched 11 to individuals using both an SSRI and a drug acting on the RAS (SSRI+RAS users). The SSRI-only and SSRI+RAS users were followed for up to three years or until December 31, 2013. We performed Cox proportional hazard regression analyses to calculate risks for psychiatric hospital contacts, hospital contacts due to depression, suicidal behavior, and all-cause mortality. The hybridized target molecules were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HRMS spectra. Some of the developed target compounds exerted promising antimicrobial activity in comparison with the reference drugs norfloxacin and fluconazole. Noticeably, sulfanilamide hybrid 5c with pyrimidine and indole could effectively inhibit the growth of E. faecalis with ****value of 1 μg/mL. The active molecule 5c showed low cell toxicity and did not obviously trigger the development of resistance towards the tested bacteria strains. Structure-activity relationship studies of these compounds led to the identification of the most potent compound, 3-(3-methoxybenzyl)-6-(1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-4-yl)thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-one (8k), which showed IC50 values of 0.004 μM and 0.001 μM against ROCK Ⅰ and ROCK Ⅱ, respectively. We recently reported the synthesis of a new series of 2-O-butyl-8-oxoadenines substituted at the 9-position with various linkers and N-heterocycles, and showed that TLR7/8 selectivity, potency and cytokine induction could be modulated by varying the alkyl linker length and the N-heterocyclic ring. In the present study, we further optimized the oxoadenine scaffold by investigating the effect of different substituents at the 2-position of the oxoadenine on TLR7/8 potency/selectivity, cytokine induction and DC maturation in human PBMCs. The results show that introducing a 1-(S)-methylbutoxy group at the 2-position of the oxoadenine significantly increased potency for TLR7/8 activity, cytokine induction and DC maturation.

Spatholobi Caulis had high quality from early November to early December, which is consistent with the local tradi-tional harvest period. This study reveals the rule of the dynamic accumulation of 21 components in Spatholobi Caulis and provides basic information for the suitable harvest time. At the same time, it provides a new method reference for the comprehensive evaluation of the internal quality of Spatholobi Caulis.This study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the whole plant Corydalis edulis. The chemical constituents were separated and purified by macroporous resin D101, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS, and semi-preparative HPLC. Their structures were determined by physicochemical properties and spectroscopic data. Four compounds were isolated from the dichloromethane and water extracts of the whole plant C. edulis, and identified as 6'-β-D-xylosylicariside B2(1),(3S,5R,6S,7E)-5,6-epoxy-3-hydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one(2), loliolide(3), and 5,5'-dimethoxybiphenyl-2,2'-diol(4), respectively. Compound 1 is a new compound, of which the absolute configuration was established by electronic circular dichroism(ECD) calculations. Compound 4 is obtained from the plants of Papaveraceae family for the first time. Compounds 2 and 3 are firstly isolated from the Corydalis genus.Famous traditional formula Sanpian Decoction(SPD)comes from Dialectical Records of Chen Shiduo of the Qing Dynasty,and ranks among 100 classic prescriptions of Classic Famous Traditional Formula catalogue(the First Batch). SPD was prepared according to Management Standards for Traditional Chinese Medicine Decoction Room in Medical Institutions. According to the polarity of different components in SPD,two HPLC fingerprints were established, in which six herbs, namely Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Paeoniae Randix Alba, Sinapis Semen, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Pruni Semen, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix,are all reflected in the fingerprints; The dry extract rate, transfer rate and similarities of fingerprints were used as indicators to study the relationship between the quality value transmitting of medicinal herbs-decoction pieces-whole decoction of Chuanxiong Rhizoma. Experiment result shows that,the transfer rate of ferulic acid from medicinal herbs to decoction pieces is between 72.00% and 108.36%; the transfer rate of ferulic acid from decoction pieces to SPD is between 31.76% and 64.09%; the dry extract rate of the whole decoction is between 14.69% and 20.16%;The similarity range of fingerprint 1 of 15 batches of SPD is between 0.971 and 0.998, and the similarity range of fingerprint 2 is between 0.980 and 0.996. The analysis was performed on an Agilent Zorbax SB-C_(18)(4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 μm) and gradient elution was carried out with 0.05% formic acid solution-acetonitrile as mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.6 mL·min~(-1) and a column temperature of 30 ℃. Mass spectrometry data of the components in SMI were collected in negative ion mode. The structures of components were speculated and identified by analyzing mass spectrometry data, comparing with standards, and referring to related literature. A total of 64 components in SMI were estimated, and the structures were confirmed in 16 of them by comparison with standards. Fifty-six compounds derived from Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma Rubra included 34 protopanaxadiol ginsenosides, 19 protopanaxatriol ginsenosides, 1 oleanane ginsenosides and 2 other glycosides. Eight compounds derived from Ophiopogonis Radix included 7 steroidal saponins, and 1 monoterpene glycoside. The structural composition of multi-components was analyzed by three different batches of Danshen Dizhuye before and after ultrafiltration of the two membranes. The results showed that 9 phenolic active ingredients in Danshen Dizhuye did not change significantly after ultrafiltration through PES membrane. However, after ultrafiltration through PS membrane, the content of sodium danshensu, protocatechualdehyde, caffeic acid, 3-hydroxy-4-methoxycinnamic acid and rosmarinic acid in Danshen Dizhuye did not change significantly, while salvianolic acid D, salvianolic acid B and lithospermic acid decreased by about 20%, and the content of salvianolic acid A decreased significantly. Flow cytometric analysis demonstrated that RMI2 overexpression enhanced G1-S phase transition and decreased apoptosis. Moreover, the protein expression of key effector molecules in the p53 signaling pathway was reduced following RMI2 overexpression. In summary, these results indicate that RMI2 promotes the growth of HCC cells and suppresses their apoptosis by inhibiting the p53 signaling pathway. Gelatin is a relatively cheap material characterized by temperature-sensitivity and abundant amino acid groups, which makes it suitable for the storage and controlled release of pesticides. In this study, gelatin microspheres were prepared by emulsion and cross-linking, then they were loaded with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid sodium (2,4-D Na) as a model herbicide. Methods In this study, primary human chondrocytes were stimulated with IL-1β prior to baicalein application to evaluate the therapeutic effect of post-treatment. Results Post-treatment baicalein alleviated cell death and partially restored mitochondrial viability, while the senescence-associated secretory phenotype was not improved in IL-1β-stimulated chondrocytes. Post-treatment baicalein down-regulated the expressions of IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, MMP-3, MMP-9, and MMP-13 mRNA as well as the protein production in stimulated cells. Even so, the levels of these factors were relative higher than those in un-treated chondrocytes. Moreover, iNOS, IL-6, IL-8, and COL1A1 expressions were consistently high, and IL-10 protein synthesis steadily increased in IL-1β-treated chondrocytes under baicalein treated status. Moreover, Western blot analyses showed that post-treatment baicalein suppressed nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells and p50 production while downstream cyclooxygenase-2 was still highly expressed. Here, we assessed the clinical course of elderly patients with dementia using PICCs. Methods This retrospective observational study was conducted at a single dementia treatment center. PICCs were used in elderly inpatients with dementia who required (a) intravenous therapy, supplemental parenteral nutrition, and dysphagia rehabilitation during acute illness; (b) end-of-life care; (c) total parenteral nutrition (TPN); or (d) an alternative to peripheral vascular (PV) access. Results Fifty-nine patients were enrolled (83.5 ± 6.9 years) 61% were in the acute treatment group, and 17% were in the end-of-life care group. The median catheter lifespan was 42 (23-87.5) days. The incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infection was 0.22 per 1,000 PICC-days, and that of deep venous thrombosis was 0.66 per 1,000 PICC-days. Among the patients in acute treatment group, 19% resumed sufficient oral intake after the treatment using PICC, and 36% resumed oral intake of gelatin-like food. Among the patients in the end-of-life care group, 91% received intravenous fluids continuously until death by initially inserted PICC. Recently, animal-borne video cameras have revealed the diet of marine mammals that make short foraging trips. However, novel approaches that allocate video time to target prey capture events is required to obtain diet information for species that make long foraging trips over great distances. We combined satellite telemetry and depth recorders with newly developed date-/time-, depth- and acceleration-triggered animal-borne video cameras to examine the diet of female northern elephant seals during their foraging migrations across the eastern North Pacific. We obtained 48.2 h of underwater video, from cameras mounted on the head (n=12) and jaw (n=3) of seals. Fish dominated the diet (78% of 697 prey items recorded) across all foraging locations (range 37-55°N, 122-152°W), diving depths (range 238-1167 m) and water temperatures (range 3.2-7.4°C), while squid comprised only 7% of the diet. Identified prey included fish such as myctophids, Merluccius sp. and Icosteus aenigmaticus, and squid such as Histioteuthis sp., Octopoteuthis sp. and Taningia danae Our results corroborate fatty acid analysis, which also found that fish are more important in the diet, and are in contrast to stomach content analyses that found cephalopods to be the most important component of the diet. Our work shows that in situ video observation is a useful method for studying the at-sea diet of long-ranging marine predators. © 2020. Significant ethical controversies remain, and there are many practical questions left to address, including appropriate procedures for returning results and the potential burden to clinicians when patients seek guidance about the clinical implications of research results. In this review, we describe current views regarding the return of genetic research results, including controversies and practical challenges, and consider the application of these issues to research on apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1), a gene recently associated with health disparities in kidney disease. Lysozyme hydrolyzes peptidoglycan, leading to bacterial lysis. Gc expresses two proteins, SliC and NgACP, that bind and inhibit the enzymatic activity of lysozyme. SliC is a surface-exposed lipoprotein, while NgACP is found in the periplasm and also released extracellularly. Purified SliC and NgACP similarly inhibit lysozyme. However, whereas mutation of ngACP increases Gc susceptibility to lysozyme, the sliC mutant is only susceptible to lysozyme when ngACP is inactivated. In this work, we examined how lipidation contributes to SliC expression, cellular localization, and resistance of Gc to killing by lysozyme. To do so, we mutated the conserved cysteine residue (C18) in the N-terminal lipobox motif of SliC, the site for lipid anchor attachment, to alanine. SliC (C18A) localized to soluble rather than membrane fractions in Gc and was not displayed on the bacterial surface. Less SliC (C18A) was detected in Gc lysatipidation was required for surface exposure of SliC, yet was dispensable for protecting the gonococcus from killing by lysozyme. To our knowledge, this is the first time the role of lipid anchoring of a lysozyme inhibitor has been investigated. Recently, animal-borne video cameras have revealed the diet of marine mammals that make short foraging trips. However, novel approaches that allocate video time to target prey capture events is required to obtain diet information for species that make long foraging trips over great distances. We combined satellite telemetry and depth recorders with newly developed date-/time-, depth- and acceleration-triggered animal-borne video cameras to examine the diet of female northern elephant seals during their foraging migrations across the eastern North Pacific. We obtained 48.2 h of underwater video, from cameras mounted on the head (n=12) and jaw (n=3) of seals. Fish dominated the diet (78% of 697 prey items recorded) across all foraging locations (range 37-55°N, 122-152°W), diving depths (range 238-1167 m) and water temperatures (range 3.2-7.4°C), while squid comprised only 7% of the diet. Identified prey included fish such as myctophids, Merluccius sp. and Icosteus aenigmaticus, and squid such as Histioteuthis sp., Octopoteuthis sp. and Taningia danae Our results corroborate fatty acid analysis, which also found that fish are more important in the diet, and are in contrast to stomach content analyses that found cephalopods to be the most important component of the diet. Our work shows that in situ video observation is a useful method for studying the at-sea diet of long-ranging marine predators. © 2020. Previously, the prevailing expert view discouraged the return of individual research results to participants because of the potential lack of analytic validity, questionable clinical validity and medical actionability, and questions about whether it is the role of research to provide participants with their data. With additional knowledge of participant perspectives and shifting views about the benefits of research and respect for participants, current expert consensus is moving toward support of returning such results. Significant ethical controversies remain, and there are many practical questions left to address, including appropriate procedures for returning results and the potential burden to clinicians when patients seek guidance about the clinical implications of research results. In this review, we describe current views regarding the return of genetic research results, including controversies and practical challenges, and consider the application of these issues to research on apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1), a gene recently associated with health disparities in kidney disease. Lysozyme hydrolyzes peptidoglycan, leading to bacterial lysis. Gc expresses two proteins, SliC and NgACP, that bind and inhibit the enzymatic activity of lysozyme. SliC is a surface-exposed lipoprotein, while NgACP is found in the periplasm and also released extracellularly. Purified SliC and NgACP similarly inhibit lysozyme. However, whereas mutation of ngACP increases Gc susceptibility to lysozyme, the sliC mutant is only susceptible to lysozyme when ngACP is inactivated. In this work, we examined how lipidation contributes to SliC expression, cellular localization, and resistance of Gc to killing by lysozyme. To do so, we mutated the conserved cysteine residue (C18) in the N-terminal lipobox motif of SliC, the site for lipid anchor attachment, to alanine. SliC (C18A) localized to soluble rather than membrane fractions in Gc and was not displayed on the bacterial surface. Less SliC (C18A) was detected in Gc lysatipidation was required for surface exposure of SliC, yet was dispensable for protecting the gonococcus from killing by lysozyme. To our knowledge, this is the first time the role of lipid anchoring of a lysozyme inhibitor has been investigated. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the prevalence of smoking among youth in China. STUDY DESIGN This is a meta-analysis study. METHODS English (PubMed, EMBASE) and Chinese (China National Knowledge Internet, WANFANG Data, and CBM) databases were independently searched by two investigators from inception to May 2019. Random effects meta-analysis was conducted to estimate the pooled prevalence of smoking. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were performed to investigate sources of heterogeneity. This study is registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42019130803. RESULTS In total, 131 articles were included in the meta-analysis, with a total of 146 studies, involving 684,370 Chinese participants. The total prevalence of smoking among youth in mainland China was 8.17% (95% confidence interval 6.97-9.45). Subgroup analysis showed that the geographic location and gender could significantly influence the prevalence of smoking. Meta-regression analyses revealed study year, sex ratio (male, %), and response rates did not contribute to the heterogeneity of the results (P-value >0.05). Sensitivity analysis showed that the results were statistically stable. CONCLUSION This meta-analysis indicates that smoking is common among adolescents in China, and the rate varies between different regions. More practical and effective policies targeting adolescents are urgently needed. As shown in our previous study, IQGAP1, a scaffolding protein of MAPK, is involved in fear memory through interactions with GluN2A-containing NMDA receptors and the ERK1/2 cascade. However, researchers have not determined whether histone posttranslational modifications are regulated by the IQGAP1/ERK signaling pathway. We performed in vivo studies using IQGAP1-/- and IQGAP1+/+ **** to provide insights into the specific functions of IQGAP1 in memory processes and the precise mechanisms underlying its regulatory effects. IQGAP1-/- **** exhibited impaired fear memory, decreased levels of phosphorylated ERK1/2 and histone H3S10, decreased acetylation of H3K14, and decreased c-Fos expression in the hippocampus compared to IQGAP1+/+ **** after fear conditioning. HDAC2 was significantly enriched at the c-fos gene promoter in IQGAP1-/- ****. Correspondingly, the disruption of the epigenetic regulation induced by ERK1/2 signaling through an intra-hippocampal injection of the MEK antagonist U0126 or GluN2A-selective pharmacological antagonist NVP-AAM077 blocked context-dependent memory formation, while no changes were observed after treatment with the GluN2B-selective antagonist Ro25-6981. The administration of SAHA, a non-specific HDAC inhibitor, or knock-down of HDAC2 with shHDAC2-AAV in the dorsal hippocampus significantly rescued the impaired fear memory formation, H3S10 phosphorylation, H3K14 acetylation, and c-Fos expression in IQGAP1-/- ****. Thus, we postulated that the IQGAP1/ERK-dependent mechanism regulating histone posttranslational modifications via HDAC2 potentially underlies memory formation. Poor sleep in college students compromises the memory consolidation processes necessary to retain course materials. A solution may lie in targeting reactivation of memories during sleep (TMR). Fifty undergraduate students completed a college-level microeconomics lecture (mathematics-based) while listening to distinctive classical music (Chopin, Beethoven, and Vivaldi). After they fell asleep, we re-played the classical music songs (TMR) or a control noise during slow wave sleep. Relative to the control condition, the TMR condition showed an 18% improvement for knowledge transfer items that measured concept integration (d=0.63), increasing the probability of "passing" the test with a grade of 70 or above (OR=4.68, 95%CI1.21,18.04). The benefits of TMR did not extend to a 9-month follow-up test when performance dropped to floor levels, demonstrating that long-term-forgetting curves are largely resistant to experimentally-consolidated memories. Spectral analyses revealed greater frontal theta activity during slow wave sleep in the TMR condition than the control condition (d=.87), and greater frontal theta activity across conditions was associated with protection against long-term-forgetting at the next-day and 9-month follow-up tests (rs=.42), at least in female students. Thus, students can leverage instrumental music-which they already commonly pair with studying-to help prepare for academic tests, an approach that may promote course success and persistence. Targeted training of working memory (WM) may improve performance and modulate brain function in untrained cognitive modalities. An accuracy analysis indicated a beneficial effect of sleep on location memory regardless of age and valence. In addition, in a more fine-grained analysis, the drift rate from diffusion modeling showed that sleep facilitated the consolidation of negative stimuli in young adults, while this emotion bias shifted to positive stimuli in older adults. Moreover, negative correlations were observed between the change of memory performance and sleep characteristics in older adults, indicating that more sleep results in fewer negative memories.

Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to determine prognostic factors. Accuracy of prognostic parameters was evaluated by using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results Among 430 patients (mean age, 38 years; range, 18-67 years) including 328 men anion and normal levels of alanine aminotransferase (AUC 0.97 and 0.94, respectively). Failing and insufficient tutelage owing to the migration of parents into cities and the distinctive rural living environment (e.g. drab and enclosed habitats) are the major causes of the high incidence of sexual abuse against left-behind children. We have applied the concept of "ritualized law" (lihua de fa) to delineate the powerless position of the state legal system vis-á-vis the sexual assaults committed against left-behind children in rural China. Pervasive and ingrained traditional customs and rituals, and the intermediary relationships between familiar people, have restricted the reach of the judicial system in rural areas. Moreover, deeply rooted traditional beliefs and the primacy of interpersonal (and inter-familiar) harmony over legal and formal institutions have weakened the legal system and, in many cases, allowed sexual offenders to avoid prosecution.Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is among the most common cardiac diseases in dogs. Its pathogenesis is not fully understood, but myocardial remodeling and inflammation are suspected to be involved. The present study aimed to characterize the pathological processes in canine DCM, investigating morphological changes in association with the expression of relevant cytokines and remodeling markers. The myocardium of 17 dogs with DCM and 6 dogs without cardiac diseases was histologically evaluated, and selected cases were further examined by immunohistochemistry, morphometry, and reverse transcription quantitative PCR. In DCM, the myocardium exhibited subtle but statistically significant diffuse quantitative changes. These comprised increased interstitial collagen deposition and macrophage numbers, as well as an overall reduced proportion of contractile tissue. This was accompanied by a significant increase in myocardial transcription of intracellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) 1, inflammatory cytokines, and remodeling enzymes. Laser microdissection showed that cardiomyocytes transcribed most relevant markers including ICAM-1, tumor necrosis factor α, transforming growth factor β (TGF-β), matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2), tissue inhibitor of MMP (TIMP) 1 and TIMP-2. In addition, there were multifocal cell-rich lesions characterized by fibrosis, neovascularization, macrophage infiltration, and cardiomyocyte degeneration. In these, macrophages were often found to express ICAM-1, TGF-β, and vascular endothelial growth factor; the former two were also expressed by cardiomyocytes. These results characterize the diffuse myocardial remodeling processes that occur in DCM. The observed multifocal cell-rich lesions might result from reduced tissue perfusion. Macrophages and cardiomyocytes seem to actively contribute to the remodeling processes, which ultimately lead to cardiac dilation and dysfunction. Failing and insufficient tutelage owing to the migration of parents into cities and the distinctive rural living environment (e.g. drab and enclosed habitats) are the major causes of the high incidence of sexual abuse against left-behind children. We have applied the concept of "ritualized law" (lihua de fa) to delineate the powerless position of the state legal system vis-á-vis the sexual assaults committed against left-behind children in rural China. Pervasive and ingrained traditional customs and rituals, and the intermediary relationships between familiar people, have restricted the reach of the judicial system in rural areas. Moreover, deeply rooted traditional beliefs and the primacy of interpersonal (and inter-familiar) harmony over legal and formal institutions have weakened the legal system and, in many cases, allowed sexual offenders to avoid prosecution.Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is among the most common cardiac diseases in dogs. Its pathogenesis is not fully understood, but myocardial remodeling and inflammation are suspected to be involved. The present study aimed to characterize the pathological processes in canine DCM, investigating morphological changes in association with the expression of relevant cytokines and remodeling markers. The myocardium of 17 dogs with DCM and 6 dogs without cardiac diseases was histologically evaluated, and selected cases were further examined by immunohistochemistry, morphometry, and reverse transcription quantitative PCR. In DCM, the myocardium exhibited subtle but statistically significant diffuse quantitative changes. These comprised increased interstitial collagen deposition and macrophage numbers, as well as an overall reduced proportion of contractile tissue. This was accompanied by a significant increase in myocardial transcription of intracellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) 1, inflammatory cytokines, and remodeling enzymes. Laser microdissection showed that cardiomyocytes transcribed most relevant markers including ICAM-1, tumor necrosis factor α, transforming growth factor β (TGF-β), matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2), tissue inhibitor of MMP (TIMP) 1 and TIMP-2. In addition, there were multifocal cell-rich lesions characterized by fibrosis, neovascularization, macrophage infiltration, and cardiomyocyte degeneration. In these, macrophages were often found to express ICAM-1, TGF-β, and vascular endothelial growth factor; the former two were also expressed by cardiomyocytes. These results characterize the diffuse myocardial remodeling processes that occur in DCM. The observed multifocal cell-rich lesions might result from reduced tissue perfusion. Macrophages and cardiomyocytes seem to actively contribute to the remodeling processes, which ultimately lead to cardiac dilation and dysfunction. The precise role of the involved cells and the factors initiating the remodeling process still needs to be identified.Maternal support and abuse severity are often considered to be vital factors in predicting children's functioning following childhood sexual abuse (CSA); however, much of the prior research has examined support and abuse severity as main effects, without consideration of how these factors may interrelate to predict children's post-CSA functioning. The initial screening involved 1,749 college students. The modified Korean version of Prodromal Questionnaire-16 item (mKPQ-16) was also administered. The criteria for ultra-high risk (UHR) of psychosis in the Comprehensive Assessment of At-Risk Mental States (CAARMS) were the gold standard for diagnosis. RESULTS Twelve of the interviewed subjects met the CAARMS criteria for UHR of psychosis. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was highest (0.936) for the CAPE-15 distress score (p less then 0.001). The use of 6 as the cutoff for the CAPE-15 distress score resulted in the best balance of sensitivity (91.7%) and specificity (85.2%), with a favorable positive predictive value of 32.4%. The coefficients of correlation between the CAPE-15 and mKPQ-16 were significant. CONCLUSION The Korean version of the CAPE-15 is a good instrument for screening for psychosis risk in collegiate settings. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of the MHO phenotype and its relationship with beta cell dysfunction by measuring C-peptide and proinsulin, anthropometric-, metabolic- and lipid appearance, as well as lifestyle behaviors and self-rated health in a cohort of 64-year-old Swedish women. Methods The National Cholesterol Education Program definition was used to assess MetS. We defined normal weight as body mass index (BMI) 18.5-24.9 kg/m2 and obesity as BMI ≥30 kg/m2 to categorize participants as metabolically healthy normal weight, MHO, and metabolically unhealthy obese. Results The MHO phenotype represented 36.3% of obese participants and 16.3% of total participants. The MHO group were at greater risk of having proinsulin levels >11 pmol/L, indicating impaired beta cell function. Further, homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance, fasting plasma levels of insulin, and C-peptide showed significant trends, with the MHO phenotype group having intermediate levels among three groups. Health behaviors such as leisure time physical activity and alcohol intake were also intermediate in individuals with the MHO phenotype. Conclusion In this study, we demonstrate that over a third of the obese women in our sample were MHO. Further, women with the MHO phenotype showed intermediate profiles considering beta cell function and insulin resistance, as well as metabolic variables, and tended to rate their general health as worse than otherwise similar individuals of normal weight.Background It has recently been proposed that a key motivation for joining groups is the protection from consequences of negative behaviours, such as norm violations. Here we empirically test this claim by investigating whether cooperative decisions and the punishment of associated fairness-based norm violations are different in individuals vs. collectives in economic games. Methods In the ultimatum game, participants made or received offers that they could reject at a cost to their outcome, a form of social punishment. In the dictator game with third-party punishment, participants made offers to a receiver while being observed by a punisher, or could themselves punish unfair offers. Results Participants made lower offers when making their decision as part of a group as compared to alone. This difference correlated with participants' overall mean offers those who were generally less generous were even less so in a group, suggesting that the collective structure was compatible with their intention. Participants were slower when punishing vs not punishing an unfair offer. Importantly here, they were slower when deciding whether to punish or not to punish groups as compared to individuals, only when the offer concerned them directly in second party punishment. Participants thus take more time to punish others, and to make their mind on whether to punish or not when facing a group of proposers. Conclusions Together, these results show that people behave differently in a group, both in their willingness to share with others and in their punishment of norm violations. This could be explained by the fact that being in a collective structure allows to share responsibility with others, thereby protecting from negative consequences of norm violations. The emission peaks occurred around 0 to 3 weeks after starting irrigation, then gradually decreased. This suggests that methane was generated by the soil organic matter, because the small rice plants provide little carbon for methanogenesis. In general, the main source of emitted methane is rice-derived carbon by current-season photosynthates and the emission peaks at the rice heading stage. However, the contribution of the rice-derived carbon is negligible in the hotspot paddies while total emission is high. The increase in emission levels from the first to the third crop can be explained by the accumulation of rice residue from the preceding crops, especially rice straw incorporated into the soil.

Here, the naturally occurring polysaccharide hyaluronic acid (HA) was used to prepare an injectable hydrogel and simultaneously deliver 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), cisplatin (DDP) and paclitaxel (PTX) microspheres for intraperitoneal CRPC chemotherapy. The drug-loaded HA hydrogel released the drugs in a sustained manner, and showed low toxicity both in vitro and in a mouse model of CRPC. Furthermore, direct injection of the drug-loaded HA hydrogel in the abdominal cavity of tumor-bearing **** significantly decreased tumor growth and liver/lung metastasis, along with decreasing the volume of ascites and inhibiting local intestinal infiltration of the tumor cells. The SEM envisaged the average particle size as 40 nm, whereas EDS interpreted the compositional analysis of the nanocomposite. XRD analysis illustrated the crystallinity and hexagonal crystal structure of the CS-ZnS-NPs. The photocatalytic efficiency of CS-ZnS-NPs was evaluated using two carcinogenic azo dyes, Acid Brown 98 and Acid Black 234. A UV lamp (254 nm) was used as an irradiation source during the photocatalytic degradation of dyes. At the optimum conditions, the synthesized CS-ZnS-NPs showed 96.7% degradation for Acid Black 234 in 100 min and 92.6% for Acid Brown 98 in 165 min. The degradation phenomena followed pseudo-first-order kinetics. The values of rate constant (k) were 0.01464 and 0.04096 min-1 with correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.98891 and 0.99406 for Acid Brown 98 and Acid Black 234, respectively. The CS-ZnS-NPs were easily recovered and recycled for four successive batches. The results showed that CS-ZnS-NPs are considered as highly productive, cost-effective and promising photocatalyst in degrading pollutants in several consecutive cycles. Furthermore, we identified that VSV G protein suppressed nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)-mediated pro-inflammatory pathways in a dose-dependent manner. It is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder, and available treatments offer little benefit. Here, we show that genetically reducing the protein tau prevents behavioral signs of autism in two mouse models simulating distinct causes of this condition. Similar to a proportion of people with autism, both models have epilepsy, abnormally enlarged brains, and overactivation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt (protein kinase B)/ mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway. All of these abnormalities were prevented or markedly diminished by partial or complete genetic removal of tau. We identify disinhibition of phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN), a negative PI3K regulator that tau controls, as a plausible mechanism and demonstrate that tau interacts with PTEN via tau's proline-rich domain. Our findings suggest an enabling role of tau in the pathogenesis of autism and identify tau reduction as a potential therapeutic strategy for some of the disorders that cause this condition.
