Algorithmic sentiment analysis was subsequently used on both the "Results" and the "Conclusions" paragraphs, resulting in a numerical output for polarity and subjectivity. The result of the human assessment was then compared to polarity and subjectivity. In addition, a neural network using the Keras platform built on Tensorflow and Python was trained to map the "Results" and "Conclusions" to the dichotomirent statistical approaches to text analysis can grasp the impact of scientific medical abstracts to a certain degree.   • To explore the impact of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) on aortic remodeling (AR) and the relationship between AR and complications after TEVAR.

    Standard treatment for venous thromboembolism is anticoagulation; vena cava filter placement is an alternative in special situations. We aimed to evaluate the outcomes in patients with cancer undergoing filter placement in a cancer center during a 10-year period and assess which preoperatory variables were associated with poorer survival.

    Retrospective unicenter analysis during a 10-year period was carried out in patients with cancer who had undergone placement of vena cava filter. Early deaths were those that occurred less than 30days after the filter placement or that occurred during the same hospital stay of the placement.

    About 250 patients were analyzed. About 51.6% were females; 77.2% had proximal lower limb deep vein thrombosis; 34.8% had contraindications to anticoagulation; 32.8% presented bleeding after the onset of anticoagulation; and 18.4% had the filter implanted because they were going to undergo surgery and could not be anticoagulated immediately after.     From June 2016 to May 2019, patients with atherosclerotic occlusion disease of the superficial femoral and popliteal arteries using the Smartflex stents were retrospectively analyzed in our institution. Patients were monitored at 1, 3, 6, and 12months and annually thereafter. The main characteristics of the diseased vessels, perioperative and follow-up outcome were evaluated. Kaplan-Meier method was used to assess patency rate and the rate of freedom from clinically driven target lesion revascularization (CD-TLR).

    A total of 50 limbs from 48 patients (mean age 69.4±8.95years; 38 men) were included. Eighty-eight Smartflex stents (1.76 stents per limb) were deployed successfully. Of the study patients, 82% had claudication (Rutherford III), 10% had rest pain (Rutherford IV), and 8% had tissue loss (Rutherford V). Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus II C and D lesions were 26% and 42%, respectively. The mean lesion length was 18.2±8.5cm and the mean stented length was 22.3±9.9cm. The average follow-up time was 16.4±8.2months. Of these lesions, 42 (94%) were chronic total occlusions and 16 (32%) were severely calcified. The primary patency rate at 1year per Kaplan-Meier estimating, the rate of freedom from CD-TLR at 1year, and the second patency rate was 83.3%, 88.1%, and 94%, respectively. Among them, 90% patients had improved ankle-brachial indexes (0.47±0.13 before and 0.84±0.16 after). No stent fractures and kinking were identified.

A systematic review of the literature following the Cochrane principles and methodology was performed. The authors resorted to MEDLINE, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science databases to select the 133 publications with evidence-based treatments for MCTs in companion animals. Results of the review suggest that the recommended treatment, prognosis and survival times for dogs and cats with MCTs depends at all times on the clinical staging, histological grade and location of the tumor.

A total of 432 thirteen-day-old male broiler chickens were randomly allocated to 6 treatments with 8 replicate cages of 9 birds per cage. All birds were fed with treatment diets from day 13 to 21. Birds in the challenge groups were gavaged with Eimeria maxima (50,000 oocysts per bird), Eimeria tenella (50,000 oocysts per bird), and Eimeria acervulina (250,000 oocysts per bird) on day 15. Growth performance was evaluated from day 13 to 21, and gut permeability was measured by fluorescein isothiocyanate dextran on day 20. The intestinal lesion, intestinal morphology, and oocysts shedding were determined at the end of the trial. The linear and quadratic orthogonal polynomial contrasts were used to evaluate the effects of increasing NP doses in responses to Eimeria challenge. The results showed that NP was not able to maintain efficient growth performance but improved gut leakage during Eimeria infection period.   • Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused a global pandemic associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Nasopharyngeal swabs and sputum samples are generally collected for serial viral load screening of respiratory contagions, but temporal profiles of these samples are not completely clear in patients with COVID-19. We performed an observational cohort study at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, which involved 31 patients with confirmed COVID-19 with or without underlying diseases. We obtained samples from each patient, and serial viral load was measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. We found that the viral load in the sputum was inclined to be higher than samples obtained from the nasopharyngeal swab at disease presentation. Moreover, the viral load in the sputum decreased more slowly over time than in the nasopharyngeal group as the disease progressed. Interestingly, even when samples in the nasopharyngeal swab turned negative, it was commonly observed that patients with underlying diseases, especially hypertension and diabetes, remained positive for COVID-19 and required a longer period for the sputum samples to turn negative. These combined findings emphasize the importance of tracking sputum samples even in patients with negative tests from nasopharyngeal swabs, especially for those with underlying conditions. In conclusion, this work reinforces the importance of sputum samples for SARS-CoV-2 detection to minimize transmission of COVID-19 within the community.Objectives Patients with osteoarthritis (OA) are more likely to develop coronary heart disease (CHD) than the general population. Five thousand forty-six of those who met study inclusion criteria had 11 frequency matching and were categorized as OA-acupuncture cohort (n = 1682), OA nonacupuncture cohort (n = 1682), and non-OA cohort (n = 1682). Cox proportional hazards regression analysis determined the risk of CHD, which was defined as the study main outcome. Fiber-optic laryngoscopy revealed a submucosal tumor involving the left aryepiglottic fold and the left false vocal fold. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 17 × 15 × 10 mm3 mass with homogenous isodensity, with regular, well-defined margins located on the left aryepiglottic fold and the left false vocal fold. Surgical resection was performed, and subsequently a diagnosis of intraductal papilloma was made by pathologic evaluation. During the follow-up period of over 3 years, the lesion has not recurred. In conclusion, intraductal papilloma of the minor salivary glands should be considered in the differential diagnosis of laryngeal submucosal tumors.Pituitary carcinomas are rare tumors with only 170 cases reported in the literature.1 They form a very small proportion of pituitary tumors, which are commonly benign adenomas. C-T-R experiences tended to consist of clusters of several different state variables, one of which was often but not always craving.

    Various parameters have been considered for predicting survival in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Information about western population is missing. The aim of this study is to assess the association between Glucose transporter type 1 (GLUT-1) expression and prognosis for patients with PDAC submitted for surgical resection in a European cohort.

    The study aimed to investigate the clinical features and prognosis factors of adult patients with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) with pulmonary involvement, especially multisystem (MS) LCH with pulmonary involvement.

    We retrospectively analyzed the demographic materials, clinical features and treatment outcomes of 119 adult LCH patients with pulmonary involvement at our center from January 1990 to November 2019.

    Among 119 patients, 13 (10.9%) had single-system (SS) LCH, and 106 (89.1%) had MS-LCH with pulmonary involvement. SS-LCH patients had higher smoking rate (84.6% vs 52.8%, P = 0.026) and smoking index (300 vs 200, P = 0.019) than MS-LCH patients. The percentage of respiratory symptoms of SS-LCH patients was higher than MS-LCH patients (84.6% vs 53.8%, P = 0.034).   • Urachal remnant anomalies are uncommon in adults and can be confused with a variety of clinical conditions when symptomatic or infected. Vesicourachal diverticulum is the rarest type, accounting for approximately 3% to 5% of congenital urachal anomalies. We report the case of a 42-year-old female patient, who presented to the emergency department with lower abdominal pain and a palpable abdominal mass. An infected vesicourachal diverticulum was diagnosed after imaging studies and was initially treated with intravenous antibiotic therapy and drainage of the urachal diverticulum to the urinary bladder through a JJ stent. Finally, the patient underwent open surgical excision of the urachal remnant. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of vesicourachal diverticulum. We recommend drainage of an infected vesicourachal diverticulum through the bladder by JJ stent placement inside its lumen during cystoscopy, as an alternative to percutaneous drainage reported in the literature.

We herein present the case of a female patient under dual antiplatelet therapy for coronary artery disease, with type IV blunt aortic injury (rupture) that was successfully repaired with Conformable Thoracic Endograft with Active Control System. This new device provides an intermediate deployment step at 50% and optional angulation control of the proximal part of the stent graft. These improvements are beneficial providing accurate device placement and maximum seal length in anatomies where the distal, as well as a proximal landing zone, is critical.The nonrecurrent laryngeal nerve (NRLN) is a rare anatomical variation of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) that may hinder the identification and preservation of this nerve during surgery and is associated with increased iatrogenic risks. The patient had normal thyroid-stimulating hormone and thyroxine levels, and aspiration biopsy was suspicious for follicular cancer. She was treated with total thyroidectomy after the intraoperative examination confirmed the presence of a papillary thyroid carcinoma. The standard approach to the RLN below the inferior thyroid artery was used on both sides. The nerve displayed anatomical variation in the nonrecurrent form (NRLN) on the right side and was associated with another variation that was not found in the consulted literature. It was completely surrounded by thyroid tissue in the region of ZT, and the surgeon was forced to remove it from within the thyroid tissue. This combination of anatomical variations seems to be quite rare. The current study investigated the underlying cause of motion sickness by testing postural instability theory.METHODS Subjects experienced realistic motion profiles while performing a virtual reality shooting task and reporting any motion sickness symptoms. Postural instability was manipulated within 20 subjects across 2 conditions. In one condition, subjects could readily adapt their posture to the motion profile by adjusting their feet on the platform (Free), and in the other condition, their feet were fixed in place on the moving platform (Fixed). This Free condition decreased postural instability by allowing adjustment, while the Fixed condition increased postural instability by restricting adjustment. The same subjects completed both conditions to control for individual differences in motion sickness susceptibility.RESULTS Overall, motion sickness was mild as measured by SSQ (M 14.41, Free; M 18.89, Fixed), and no statistically significant differences were observed between the conditions. Performance on the shooting task was reduced in accuracy by approximately 40%, although this result did not differ between conditions.DISCUSSION The results do not support postural instability as a contributing factor in motion sickness symptomology. This project evaluated the repeatability of Uca measurements to assess how many repeated measurements would be needed to detect significant urinary calcium elevations in space.METHODS A total of six subjects collected 24-h urine samples weekly for 8 wk and took 500 mg of oral calcium carbonate and 400 IU of vitamin D daily in week 7 and 8. Uca concentration was analyzed using a calcein-based system. The effect of the intake of calcium and vitamin D on Uca levels and the correlation between first void concentration and 24-h mass were assessed with linear mixed effect models. The current study investigated the underlying cause of motion sickness by testing postural instability theory.METHODS Subjects experienced realistic motion profiles while performing a virtual reality shooting task and reporting any motion sickness symptoms. Postural instability was manipulated within 20 subjects across 2 conditions. In one condition, subjects could readily adapt their posture to the motion profile by adjusting their feet on the platform (Free), and in the other condition, their feet were fixed in place on the moving platform (Fixed). This Free condition decreased postural instability by allowing adjustment, while the Fixed condition increased postural instability by restricting adjustment. The same subjects completed both conditions to control for individual differences in motion sickness susceptibility.RESULTS Overall, motion sickness was mild as measured by SSQ (M 14.41, Free; M 18.89, Fixed), and no statistically significant differences were observed between the conditions. Performance on the shooting task was reduced in accuracy by approximately 40%, although this result did not differ between conditions.DISCUSSION The results do not support postural instability as a contributing factor in motion sickness symptomology.   • We extend our analysis to 150 segments (similar to that of earthworms) to show that reducing COT is an alternate explanation for why earthworms have so few moving segments. The mathematical relationships developed here between structural properties, actuation power, and waveform shape will enable the design of future robots with more segments and limited onboard power.Deformation behavior of soft pneumatic actuators (SPAs) can mechanically be preprogrammed into their architecture during design. If this is true, how does spatial hearing develop in people lacking visual experience? We comprehensively addressed this question by investigating auditory-localization abilities in 17 congenitally blind and 17 sighted individuals using a psychophysical minimum-audible-angle task that lacked sensorimotor confounds. Participants were asked to compare the relative position of two sound sources located in central and peripheral, horizontal and vertical, or frontal and rear spaces. We observed unequivocal enhancement of spatial-hearing abilities in congenitally blind people, irrespective of the field of space that was assessed. Our results conclusively demonstrate that visual experience is not a prerequisite for developing optimal spatial-hearing abilities and that, in striking contrast, the lack of vision leads to a general enhancement of auditory-spatial skills.Background Carbohydrate counting and use of automated bolus calculators (ABCs) can help reduce HbA1c in type 1 diabetes but only limited evidence exists in type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods A 24-week open-label, randomized clinical study was conducted in 79 persons with type 2 diabetes treated with basal-bolus insulin (mean age 62.5 ± 9.6 years, HbA1c 8.7% ± 1.0% [72 ± 11 mmol/mol], diabetes duration 18.7 ± 7.6 years). Participants were randomized 11 into two groups ABC group received training in ACC and use of an ABC; ** group received training in ACC and manual calculation of insulin bolus. Participants wore blinded continuous glucose monitors for 6 days at baseline and at study end. Primary endpoint was change in HbA1c. Results After 24 weeks, HbA1c decreased 0.8% (8.8 mmol/mol) in ABC group and 0.8% (9.0 mmol/mol) in ** group with no between-group difference (P = 0.96) and without increase in time in hypoglycemic range (sensor glucose less then 3.9 mmol/L). Glycemic variability decreased significantly in both groups, whereas the total insulin dose and body mass index (BMI) remained unchanged during the study. Treatment satisfaction increased significantly in both groups after 24 weeks. Conclusion ACC is an effective, low-cost tool to reduce HbA1c and glycemic variability in persons with basal-bolus insulin-treated type 2 diabetes without increase in hypoglycemia or BMI. Surprisingly, many women report that they feel kick sensations long after the pregnancy; however, this experience has never been reported in the scientific literature. Materials and Methods We used a qualitative approach to survey n = 197 women who had previously been pregnant. We calculated the number of women who had experienced phantom kicks after their first pregnancy, and explored subjective experiences of kick-like sensations in the post-partum period. Results In this study, we show that almost 40% of women in our sample experienced phantom fetal kicks after their first pregnancy, up to 28 years (average 6.4 years) post-partum. Women described the phantom sensations as "convincing," "real kicks," or "flutters." Twenty-seven percent of women described the experience as nostalgic or comforting, and 25.7% reported felt confused or upset by the experience. Conclusions Our results demonstrate that phantom kicks in the postpartum period are a widely experienced sensation, which may have implications for a woman's postpartum mental health. The mechanism behind the phantom kick phenomenon is unknown, but may be related to changes in the somatosensory homunculus or proprioception during pregnancy.

  • The electrochemical synthesis of mesoporous ruthenium (Ru) films using sacrificial self-assembled block polymer micelles templates, and its electrochemical surface oxidation to RuOx is described. Unlike standard methods such as thermal oxidation, the electrochemical oxidation method described here retains the mesoporous structure. Ru oxide materials serve as high-performance supercapacitor electrodes due to their excellent pseudocapacitive behavior. The mesoporous architectured film shows superior specific capacitance (467 F g-1Ru ) versus a nonporous Ru/RuOx electrode (28 F g-1Ru ) that is prepared via the same method but omitting the pore-directing polymer. Ultrahigh surface area materials will play an essential role in increasing the capacitance of this class of energy storage devices because the pseudocapacitive redox reaction occurs on the surface of electrodes.Natural populations of ectothermic oviparous vertebrates typically experience thermal variability in their incubation environment. Yet an overwhelming number of laboratory studies incubate animals under constant thermal conditions that cannot capture natural thermal variability. Here, we systematically searched for studies that incubated eggs of ectothermic vertebrates, including both fishes and herpetofauna, under thermally variable regimes. We ultimately developed a compendium of 66 studies that used thermally variable conditions for egg incubation. In this review, we qualitatively discuss key findings from literature in the compendium, including the phenotypic effects resulting from different patterns of thermally variable incubation, as well as the ontogenetic persistence of these effects. We also describe a physiological framework for contextualizing some of these effects, based on thermal performance theory. Lastly, we highlight key gaps in our understanding of thermally variable incubation and offer suggestions for future studies.Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) causes hypoxic stress and can trigger uric acid (UA) overproduction. In 528 community-based males (mean [SD] age 46.2 [7.4] years), we cross-sectionally analysed measures of anthropometry; self-reported lifestyle habits; overnight sleep polysomnography data; cardiopulmonary exercise tests; and biomarkers of cardiometabolic, hepatic, and renal functions; and CSI, using structural equation modelling. Objective disrupted sleep, C-reactive protein, low physical fitness, and sedentary lifestyle were not related to UA levels in univariate analysis and were excluded. The latent variables (with corresponding manifest variables) obesity (body mass index, waist-hip ratio), hypertension (post-sleep systolic, diastolic bobesity confounds the SDB-hyperuricaemia relationship.
    Studies investigating rates and risk factors for serious safety events (SSEs) during rituximab treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), and related disorders are limited.

    Rituximab-treated patients with MS, NMOSD, or related disorders at the Rocky Mountain and New York University MS Care Centers were included. The follow-up period was defined as the time from the initial dose of rituximab up to 12months of last dose of rituximab or ocrelizumab (in patients who switched). Clinician-reported and laboratory data were retrospectively collected from electronic medical records.

    One-thousand patients were included comprising 907 MS, 77 NMOSD, and 16 related disorders. Patients had a mean follow-up of 31.1months and a mean cumulative rituximab dose of 4012mg. Of the 169 patients who switched to ocrelizumab, the mean ocrelizumab dose was 1141mg. The case presented here demonstrates that both iNPH and cervical myelopathy may present simultaneously and result in gait disturbances and imbalance in some patients. This systematic review explores this question. We searched online resources like PubMed, PubMed Central, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar for systematic reviews, traditional reviews, randomized controlled trials, and meta-analysis on cannabis and schizophrenia/ psychosis. We included human studies published in peer-reviewed journals in the English language in the last five years. We searched online resources like PubMed, PubMed Central, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar for systematic reviews, traditional reviews, randomized controlled trials, and meta-analysis on cannabis and schizophrenia/ psychosis. We included human studies published in peer-reviewed journals in the English language in the last five years. After reviewing 96 initial results of omain culprit causing psychosis and schizophrenia in the at-risk population. THC can also be the one exacerbating symptoms and causing an adverse prognosis in already diagnosed patients. Even though CBD shows therapeutic effects and THC opposing effects, the data is minimal and low safety and efficacy warrants more research. The relation between cannabis and schizophrenia needs further investigation. We need more case-control studies and clinical trials with a larger population to get conclusive data.Introduction Readmission within 30 days is used as a standard quality metric for hospitalized patients. We hypothesized that patients who get readmitted within 30 days may have higher short- and long-term mortality. Material and Methods Using administrative data, we retrospectively analyzed 2,353 patients admitted to inpatient medicine service over a period of one year. The patients were matched for diagnostic group (DRG) and severity index (SI) using nearest propensity scores in a 21 ratio between non-readmissions (NRA) to readmissions (RA) patients. Results There was no statistically significant difference in the groups between age, sex, length of stay (LOS), race, and ethnicity. The hazard model yielded a hazard ratio (HR) of 2.06 for 30-day readmissions (95% CI of 1.55, 2.74; p= less then 0.001). The survival probability at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months was consistently greater for NRA patients. Conclusions Thirty-day readmissions are an independent risk factor for all-cause mortality which persists for at least two years independent of DRG and SI.
