The nanocomposites were incorporated into gelatin methacryloyl hydrogel and exposed to UV light for photopolymerization. The volume of the formulation and the UV exposition time were also analyzed. The CN characterization showed that formononetin acted as a functionalization agent. The functionalized CN showed safe characteristics and can be incorporated in photocrosslinkable formulation. The UV exposition time for the formulation photopolymerization was compatible with the cell viability and also occurred in the injury site.

Digital mental health interventions offer a scalable solution that reduces barriers to seeking care for clinical depression and anxiety.
We aimed to examine the effectiveness of a 12-week therapist supported, app-based cognitive behavioral therapy program in improving symptoms of depression and anxiety within 9 months.
A total of 323 participants with mild to moderately severe depression or anxiety were enrolled in a 12-week digital cognitive behavior therapy program. The analysis was restricted to participants who provided at least one follow-up assessment after baseline. As a result, 146 participants (45.2%) were included in the analysis-74 (50.7%) participants completed assessments at 3 months, 31 participants (21.2%) completed assessments at 6 months, and 21 participants (14.4%) completed assessments at 9 months. Although several models of empowerment exist, a comprehensive and pragmatic framework is lacking for the development of such interventions.
This study proposes a framework for digital interventions aiming to empower patients that includes a methodology that links objectives, strategies, and evaluation.
This study is based on a literature review and iterated expert discussions including a focus group to formulate the proposed model. Our model is based on a review of various models of empowerment and models of technology intervention.

Motion-based technologies (MBTs), also called sensor-based technologies or virtual reality, have the potential for assisting physical exercise and training as a part of a disease management and rehabilitation program, but little is known about its' use for people with dementia.
The purpose of this pilot study was to investigate the feasibility and efficacy of MBT physical training at home for people with dementia.
A 3-phase pilot study (1) baseline start-up, (2) 15 weeks of group training at a local care center twice a week, and (3) 12 weeks of group training reduced to once a week, supplemented with individual MBT training twice a week at home. A total of 26 people with dementia from a municipality in Southern Denmark were eligible and agreed to participate in this study. Three withdrew from the study, leaving 23 participants for the final analysisted.
eHealth can help reduce social health inequalities (SHIs); at the same time, it also has the potential to increase them. Several conversion factors can be integrated into the development of an eHealth tool to make it inclusive (1) providing physical, technical, and financial access to eHealth; (2) enabling the integration of people at risk of SHIs into the research and development of digital projects targeting such populations (co-design or participatory research); (3) promoting consistency between the digital health literacy level of future users (FUs) and the eHealth tool; (4) developing an eHealth tool that is consistent with the technological skills of FUs; (5) ensuring that the eHealth tool is consistent with the help-seeking process of FUs; (6) respecting the learning capacities of FUs; and (7) being sensitive to FUs' cultural context. However, only little empirical evidence pointing out how these conversion factors can be integrated into an effective eHealth tool is available.

Event-related potentials (ERPs) are widely used in brain-computer interface (BCI) systems to detect sensitive targets. However, asynchronous BCI systems based on video-target-evoked ERPs can pose a challenge in real-world applications due to the absence of an explicit target onset time and the time jitter of the detection latency. To address this challenge, we developed an asynchronous detection framework for video target detection. In this framework, an ERP alignment method based on the principle of iterative minimum distance square error (MDSE) was proposed for constructing an ERP template and aligning signals on the same base to compensate for possible time jitter. Using this method, ERP response characteristics induced by video targets were estimated. Online video target detection results indicated that alignment methods reduced the false alarm more effectively than non-alignment methods. The false alarm of the proposed Aligned-MDSE method was one-third lower than that of existing alignment methods under the same right hit level using limited individual samples. Furthermore, cross-subject results indicated that untrained subjects could directly perform online detection tasks and achieve excellent performance by a general model trained from more than 10 subjects. The proposed asynchronous video target detection framework can thus have a significant impact on real-world BCI applications.Human operator control of brain-actuated robot steering based on electroencephalograph (EEG)-signals is a complex behavior consisting of surroundings perceiving, decision making, and commands issuing and differs among individual operators. However, no existing models allow decoupling the user from the loop to improve the system design and testing process, which can capture such behavior of a brain-actuated robot. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose an operator brain-controlled steering model consisting of an operator decision model based on the queuing network (QN) cognitive architecture and a brain-machine interface (BMI) performance model. The QN-based operator decision model can mimic the human decision process with the individual operator differences considered. The new BMI performance model is built to represent the varied accuracy of BMI during brain-controlled direction operations. Furthermore, the model is simulated and validated against the results of human operator-in-the-loop experiments. The results show that the proposed model can reproduce the behavior of human operators thanks to its similar direction control performance.Individuals with chronic hemiparesis post-stroke exhibit gait impairments that require functional rehabilitation through training. Exoskeletal robotic assistive devices can provide a user with continuous assistance but impose movement restrictions. There are currently devices that allow unrestricted movement but provide assistance only intermittently at specific points of the gait cycle. Our design, a cable-driven active leg exoskeleton (C-ALEX), allows the user both unrestricted movement and continuous force assistance throughout the gait cycle to assist the user in new walking patterns. In this study, we assessed the ability of C-ALEX to induce a change in the walking patterns of ten post-stroke participants using a single-session training protocol. The ability of C-ALEX to accurately provide forces and torques in the desired directions was also evaluated to compare its design performance to traditional rigid-link designs. Event-related potentials (ERPs) are widely used in brain-computer interface (BCI) systems to detect sensitive targets. However, asynchronous BCI systems based on video-target-evoked ERPs can pose a challenge in real-world applications due to the absence of an explicit target onset time and the time jitter of the detection latency. To address this challenge, we developed an asynchronous detection framework for video target detection. In this framework, an ERP alignment method based on the principle of iterative minimum distance square error (MDSE) was proposed for constructing an ERP template and aligning signals on the same base to compensate for possible time jitter. Using this method, ERP response characteristics induced by video targets were estimated. Online video target detection results indicated that alignment methods reduced the false alarm more effectively than non-alignment methods. The false alarm of the proposed Aligned-MDSE method was one-third lower than that of existing alignment methods under the same right hit level using limited individual samples. Furthermore, cross-subject results indicated that untrained subjects could directly perform online detection tasks and achieve excellent performance by a general model trained from more than 10 subjects. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose an operator brain-controlled steering model consisting of an operator decision model based on the queuing network (QN) cognitive architecture and a brain-machine interface (BMI) performance model. The QN-based operator decision model can mimic the human decision process with the individual operator differences considered. The new BMI performance model is built to represent the varied accuracy of BMI during brain-controlled direction operations. Furthermore, the model is simulated and validated against the results of human operator-in-the-loop experiments. The results show that the proposed model can reproduce the behavior of human operators thanks to its similar direction control performance.Individuals with chronic hemiparesis post-stroke exhibit gait impairments that require functional rehabilitation through training. In this study, we assessed the ability of C-ALEX to induce a change in the walking patterns of ten post-stroke participants using a single-session training protocol. To investigate this, we examined the IgAN expression profile of metalloproteinases, enzymes involved in the remodelling of ECM proteins, and noted that the proteoglycanase ADAMTS5 was upregulated in IgAN kidneys. ADAMTS5 accumulated in areas of inflammation, and ADAMTS5+ cells were seen in the tubulointerstitium and glomeruli. To assess the effects of non-calcium-based phosphate binders on intermediate cardiovascular markers, we conducted a multicenter, double-blind trial, randomizing 278 participants with stage 3b or 4 CKD and serum phosphate >1.00 mmol/L (3.10 mg/dl) to 500 mg lanthanum carbonate or matched placebo thrice daily for 96 weeks. We analyzed the primary outcome, carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity, using a linear mixed effects model for repeated measures. Secondary outcomes included abdominal aortic calcification and serum and urine markers of mineral metabolism.

Our cohort included 258,510 patients receiving chronic hemodialysis in 2005-2013. Median age at dialysis initiation was 64 years, 45% were female, 32% were Black, and 15% were Hispanic. Within their residential zip code, patients had a median of 25 "less-healthy" food outlets (interquartile range, 11-40) available to them compared with a median of four "healthy" food outlets (interquartile range, 2-6).

In this study, qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the expression of SNAI3-AS1 was elevated and was correlated with the levels of PEG10 in HCC tissues. Through functional experiments, we determined that knockdown of SNAI3-AS1 and PEG10 inhibited the proliferation and metastasis, whereas overexpression of SNAI3-AS1 and PEG10 promoted the proliferation and metastasis of HCC cells. In addition, rescue experiments confirmed that upregulation of PEG10 partially restored cell function inhibition induced by SNAI3-AS1 knockdown. Therefore, we hypothesized that PEG10 may be regulated by SNAI3-AS1, which in turn mediates the malignant biological processes of HCC cells regulated by PEG10. Further bioinformatics analysis and mechanistic experiments showed that SNAI3-AS1 functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to activate PEG10 by acting as a sponge for miR-27-3p and miR-34a-5p. In summary, our study revealed that SNAI3-AS1 is a tumor regulator of PEG10 in the progression of HCC, and may contribute to the improvement of HCC diagnosis and therapy.

Through functional experiments, we determined that knockdown of SNAI3-AS1 and PEG10 inhibited the proliferation and metastasis, whereas overexpression of SNAI3-AS1 and PEG10 promoted the proliferation and metastasis of HCC cells. In addition, rescue experiments confirmed that upregulation of PEG10 partially restored cell function inhibition induced by SNAI3-AS1 knockdown. Therefore, we hypothesized that PEG10 may be regulated by SNAI3-AS1, which in turn mediates the malignant biological processes of HCC cells regulated by PEG10. Here, we screened commercially available antiviral compound libraries against ZIKV E protein, using a structure-based drug discovery approach. The antiviral efficacy of the top ten screened compounds were experimentally validated for inhibition of ZIKV replication in Vero Cells. Compound F1065-0358 was observed to inhibit ZIKV replication with an IC50 of 14.0 μM. Ligand-protein complex molecular dynamic simulations confirmed the stability of ligand binding up to 100 ns. The PYGL gene is the only established gene known to cause glycogen storage disease type VI (GSD6), which is a rare autosomal recessive disorder associated with hepatomegaly, elevated levels of hepatic transaminases, and hypoglycemia. Extended bioinformatics analysis was performed on the exome sequencing data of 5 patients who were clinically diagnosed as having or highly suspected of having GSD, and a single heterozygous pathogenic or likely pathogenic or rare variant of uncertain significance single-nucleotide variant was identified on the PYGL gene. A recurrent, novel, 3.6-kb deletion involving exons 14 to 17 of PYGL was identified in three of the five patients. Together with the two novel and one established stop-gain SNVs, they were diagnosed as compounds heterozygous of PYGL variants and confirmed as GSD6. The detected 3.6-kb deletion was further screened in a Chinese cohort of 31,317 individuals without hepatic abnormalities, and 10 carriers were identified, showing an allele frequency of 0.016%. Compared with the previously established 47 PYGL pathogenic or likely pathogenic SNVs, the novel pathogenic deletion had the second highest allele frequency among the population. This recurrent, novel, 3.6-kb deletion improved the molecular diagnostic rate of the GSD6. Because severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs), such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) rarely occur,clinical data based on large-scale studies are still lacking.
To provide information on culprit drugs and clinical characteristics, including morbidity and mortality of SCARs based on a nationwide registry.
SCAR cases that occurred from 2010 to 2015 were recruited to the Korean SCAR registry from 34 tertiary referral hospitals. Demographics, causative drugs, causality, and clinical outcomes were collected by reviewing the medical record.
A total of 745 SCAR cases (384 SJS/TEN cases and 361 DRESS cases) due to 149 drugs were registered. The main causative drugs were allopurinol (14.0%), carbamazepine (9.5%), vancomycin (4.7%), and antituberculous agents (6.3%). A strong preference for SJS/TEN was observed in carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (100%), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (84%), and acetaminophen (83%), whereas dapsone (100%), antituberculous agents (81%), and glycopeptide antibacterials (78%) were more likely to cause DRESS. The mortality rate was 6.6% (SJS/TEN 8.9% and DRESS 4.2%). The median time to death was 19 days and 29 days in SJS/TEN and DRESS respectively, and 89.8% of deaths occurred within 60 days after the onset of the skin symptoms.

Relevant literature published until August 2020 was searched using the terms "vibratory urticaria," "vibratory angioedema," "vibratory-induced angioedema," and "vibratory-induced urticaria." Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis recommendations were applied to this systematic review.
On the basis of review of 22 studies (16 case reports, 4 case series, and 2 cohort studies) that had a combined total of 83 patients, we propose that VA be classified as hereditary VA (33.7%) and acquired VA (66.3%). Vibration-induced itching was frequent in both subgroups. Patients with hereditary VA more commonly had wheals and systemic symptoms, whereas patients with acquired VA more frequently had angioedema, burning, pain, or tingling.
The PYGL gene is the only established gene known to cause glycogen storage disease type VI (GSD6), which is a rare autosomal recessive disorder associated with hepatomegaly, elevated levels of hepatic transaminases, and hypoglycemia. Extended bioinformatics analysis was performed on the exome sequencing data of 5 patients who were clinically diagnosed as having or highly suspected of having GSD, and a single heterozygous pathogenic or likely pathogenic or rare variant of uncertain significance single-nucleotide variant was identified on the PYGL gene. A recurrent, novel, 3.6-kb deletion involving exons 14 to 17 of PYGL was identified in three of the five patients. Together with the two novel and one established stop-gain SNVs, they were diagnosed as compounds heterozygous of PYGL variants and confirmed as GSD6. The detected 3.6-kb deletion was further screened in a Chinese cohort of 31,317 individuals without hepatic abnormalities, and 10 carriers were identified, showing an allele frequency of 0.016%. Compared with the previously established 47 PYGL pathogenic or likely pathogenic SNVs, the novel pathogenic deletion had the second highest allele frequency among the population. This recurrent, novel, 3.6-kb deletion improved the molecular diagnostic rate of the GSD6. SCAR cases that occurred from 2010 to 2015 were recruited to the Korean SCAR registry from 34 tertiary referral hospitals. Demographics, causative drugs, causality, and clinical outcomes were collected by reviewing the medical record. A total of 745 SCAR cases (384 SJS/TEN cases and 361 DRESS cases) due to 149 drugs were registered. The main causative drugs were allopurinol (14.0%), carbamazepine (9.5%), vancomycin (4.7%), and antituberculous agents (6.3%). A strong preference for SJS/TEN was observed in carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (100%), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (84%), and acetaminophen (83%), whereas dapsone (100%), antituberculous agents (81%), and glycopeptide antibacterials (78%) were more likely to cause DRESS. The mortality rate was 6.6% (SJS/TEN 8.9% and DRESS 4.2%). The rising prevalence of allergies can substantially impact the skin, which is one of the largest targets for allergic and immunologic responses.We present the results of an online survey assessing self-reported allergy prevalence in Russians, outline the populations who report allergies and characterize the skin conditions associated with allergy.
An online survey was conducted in Russia of 2010 adults as a representative sample of the general Russian population.
A total of 34.9% of Russian adults (mean age 41.3 ± 14.4 years old) reported having allergies. Reported allergies included skin allergies (73.3%), food allergies (53.9%) and respiratory allergies (43.4%), and 65.9% reported their allergies had been diagnosed by a doctor. In total, 75.1% of those who reported allergies also reported experiencing associated skin reactions, they were 1.5-5.5 times more likely to report a cutaneous disease and were 1.5 times to report sensitive skin compared to those who did not report allergies. In addition, those that reported allergies were also 2 times more likely to report experiencing skin reactions when using skincare products.
It is estimated that over 35 million Russian adults have allergies. These results will help raise awareness about the burden of allergies and the need to develop solutions to mitigate their impact on health.

This study assesses to what extent the Mini-Mental State Exam and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores may predict the presence of dementia in a sample of typical old age psychiatric patients who may or may not have temporally or permanently reduced cognitive abilities.
A total of 141 inpatients completed the Mini-Mental State Exam and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment at arrival. All patients were subsequently diagnosed during their stay at the age-psychiatric unit. Receiver operating characteristics and analysis of variance were used to compare the results of the two tests for different patient groups.
The Montreal Cognitive Assessment is slightly more sensitive and specific than the Mini-Mental State Exam for dementia prediction. Age, sex, and education only account for approximately 2% of the variance in both tests. Patients with more than one diagnosis across the diagnostic groups included in this study (dementia, psychoses, affective disorder, and depression) performed significantly poorer on both tests than patients with a single diagnosis.

This retrospective study of 74 AEG patients compared two surgical procedures, PG-TVT (n=44) and TG (n=30), in terms of surgical outcomes, postoperative complications and nutritional status. The Reflux Disease Questionnaire (RDQ) was used to evaluate reflux esophagitis, and patients with an RDQ score of ≥12 points were diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The mean operative time was significantly shorter in the PG-TVT group (242.6 min) compared with that in the TG group (288.1 min). The overall postoperative complication rate did not differ significantly between the PG-TVT and TG groups. All the patients were followed up for 6 months, and none developed cancer recurrence in distant organs, gastric remnant, or lymph nodes.

This article examines how the emergence of mass incarceration in the United States affected public perceptions of its judicial institutions. Analyses of General Social Survey data collected between 1974 and 2018 indicate that the rising incarceration rate was associated with distinctive changes to Blacks' and Whites' views of courts. As the incarceration rate increased, Blacks' confidence in courts and the legal system fell while Whites' confidence grew. The rising incarceration rate was also associated with a growing Black-White fissure in confidence in the Supreme Court. Finally, although Blacks and Whites each became more likely to believe that courts are too punitive as incarceration increased, the change in these attitudes was twice as large among Blacks than Whites. Overall these results suggest that mass incarceration contributed to a rift in Blacks' and Whites' support for judicial institutions. This article also underscores the importance of macro-level institutional contexts for understanding individuals' perceptions of institutional authorities.Decades of research illuminates how status beliefs about socially significant characteristics, like gender, fundamentally alter expectations about individual's competence and worth. This process biases opportunity structures and resource distributions, thereby recreating social inequalities in a self-fulfilling fashion. Many social and organizational policies attempt to reduce inequality by increasing disadvantaged groups' access to valued rewards, such as prestigious alma maters, awards, and valued positions. In addition to meaningfully increasing resources, the status these rewards convey should also theoretically increase the status of the particular people who come to possess them. To know whether inversions to reward structures reduce social inequality, however, we must first demonstrate that the status value of rewards alone is an effective intervention. In an experimental test of interventions to gender status inequality, reward markers with relatively higher or lower status value were consistently or inconsistently associated with the gender of the participants' task partners. Results indicate that rewards intervened in the groups' gendered status hierarchy as participants were more likely to be influenced by their partners' rewards than their gender.Thousands of preventable deaths are attributed to obesity in the United States. However, the harmfulness of obesity varies across the population; individuals' education determines access to healthful resources and exposure to competing risks, dampening/amplifying obesity-associated mortality risk. Using restricted U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data (N = 40,058; 1988-2015), this study estimates educational differences in mortality attributable to central obesity (waist-to-height ratio ≥0.5) - a dangerous form of abdominal adiposity. Over 30% of excess deaths are attributable to central obesity among college-educated adults, compared to 1-10% among their less-educated counterparts. This difference is larger for cardiometabolic-related mortality, as central obesity may explain 60-70% of excess deaths among college-educated adults. Decomposition analyses show differences are driven by greater obesity-associated risk among college-educated adults, rather than prevalence. Policies targeting health disparities should recognize central obesity as a key risk among highly-educated adults, but only one of many encountered by those with less education.This study examines the association between individuals' educational assortative mating and time spent on child care and housework. Focus is put on hypogamous couples, or couples in which wives have more education than their husbands. Relative resources and gender revolution frameworks are considered as contexts to explain why hypogamous couples may share their time differently than other couples. A series of ordinary least squares regressions with population and sampling weights are employed using American Time Use Survey data from 2003 to 2018. Three, separate analyses using relative education, gender, and all educational pairings as the independent variables of interest are presented with child care and housework as the dependent variables. The current findings show that men in hypogamous marriages perform about 10 min more of child care per day on average than their peers in hypergamous and homogamous marriages, and that this comes primarily from basic care activities. This accounts for approximately 43% of the difference between men and women in the average amount of time spent on child care. No clear pattern of significance is apparent comparing individuals' time spent on housework by relative education, suggesting that housework and child care have evolved differently in the context of gendered domestic responsibilities. Men in hypogamous marriages are more egalitarian in their sharing of child care. However, this is only true for couples in which men have at least a high school diploma and women are highly educated.In most mid- and high-income countries, there have been significant demographic, structural, and cultural changes in the past decades. However, we know little about how these changes have shaped women's work patterns during a key life stage the transition to motherhood. Using longitudinal data from Chile, covering over 30 years of employment histories and three periods of first births (1980-2010), I conduct sequence analysis to identify women's work-care trajectories during an eight-year period of the transition to motherhood. Over time, I find that continuous care work at home has declined, for which education plays a key role, while the chances of working continuously have not changed over time. Instead, I find an increasing trend of unsteady paths that combine paid work with either caretaking or unemployment. I discuss how these changes, as well as their association with education, have important implications for both gender and social inequality.Using nationally representative data from the High School Longitudinal Study (HSLS), I assess the oppositional culture explanation for Mexican students. First, I examine if there are differences between Mexican and White students in their academic behaviors, attitudes, and friends' academic orientation. Second, I examine if these measures account for the racial disparity in academic outcomes between Mexican and White students. Relative resources and gender revolution frameworks are considered as contexts to explain why hypogamous couples may share their time differently than other couples. A series of ordinary least squares regressions with population and sampling weights are employed using American Time Use Survey data from 2003 to 2018. Three, separate analyses using relative education, gender, and all educational pairings as the independent variables of interest are presented with child care and housework as the dependent variables. The current findings show that men in hypogamous marriages perform about 10 min more of child care per day on average than their peers in hypergamous and homogamous marriages, and that this comes primarily from basic care activities. This accounts for approximately 43% of the difference between men and women in the average amount of time spent on child care. No clear pattern of significance is apparent comparing individuals' time spent on housework by relative education, suggesting that housework and child care have evolved differently in the context of gendered domestic responsibilities. Men in hypogamous marriages are more egalitarian in their sharing of child care. However, this is only true for couples in which men have at least a high school diploma and women are highly educated.In most mid- and high-income countries, there have been significant demographic, structural, and cultural changes in the past decades. However, we know little about how these changes have shaped women's work patterns during a key life stage the transition to motherhood. Using longitudinal data from Chile, covering over 30 years of employment histories and three periods of first births (1980-2010), I conduct sequence analysis to identify women's work-care trajectories during an eight-year period of the transition to motherhood. Over time, I find that continuous care work at home has declined, for which education plays a key role, while the chances of working continuously have not changed over time. Instead, I find an increasing trend of unsteady paths that combine paid work with either caretaking or unemployment. I discuss how these changes, as well as their association with education, have important implications for both gender and social inequality.Using nationally representative data from the High School Longitudinal Study (HSLS), I assess the oppositional culture explanation for Mexican students. First, I examine if there are differences between Mexican and White students in their academic behaviors, attitudes, and friends' academic orientation. Second, I examine if these measures account for the racial disparity in academic outcomes between Mexican and White students.
