  • Immunotherapy with anti-GD2 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) provides some benefits for patients with neuroblastoma (NB). However, the therapeutic efficacy remains limited, and treatment is associated with significant neuropathic pain. Targeting O-acetylated GD2 (OAcGD2) by 8B6 mAb has been proposed to avoid pain by more selective tumor cell targeting. Thorough understanding of its mode of action is necessary to optimize this treatment strategy. Here, we found that 8B6-mediated antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP) performed by macrophages is a key effector mechanism. These results identify ADCP as a critical mechanism for tumor cytolysis by anti-disialoganglioside mAb and support a combination with SIRPα blocking agents for effective neuroblastoma therapy.The aim of the article was to evaluate the role of electromyography and the value of Awaji criteria for the diagnosis of ALS in the early stage. The study involves 48 patients (27 male and 21 females from 41 to 84 years old) who went to **** Mai Hospital and Dong Do Clinic in Hanoi and were diagnosed with ALS according to Awaji criteria. All patients underwent clinical examination for ALS. The patients were examined for nerve conduction (motor and sensory conduction) using needle electromyography (EMG). Upper motor neuron (UMN) signs and lower motor neuron (LMN) signs were most common in the cervical region (89.58%), the lumbosacral region (70.83%), and the bulbar region (56.25%). The sensory nerve conduction was normal. The spontaneous activities (fasciculation, fibrillation, positive wave) accounted for more than 50% in all 4 regions bulbar, cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral regions. The abnormality of both clinical and electrodiagnosis was seen in the cervical region (87.5%) and lumbosacral one (70.83%) while the bulbar region and thoracic one usually had abnormal electrodiagnosis before clinical. There were 60.42% of patients with "definite ALS" by Awaji criteria. It allowed to make an earlier diagnosis cause the sensitivity of Awaji criteria (93.75%) was higher than the revised El Escorial criteria (85.42%) (p less then 0.05). In the evaluation of target models using test data B, model T25 showed improved detection performance (recall of 0.967). The diagnostic performance of model T50 for maxillary sinusitis exceeded 0.9 in sensitivity. For statistical analysis, Chi-square, the two-factor repeated-measures ANOVA, and correlation tests were used. At baseline, mean global OHQoL and OIDP scores were similar for both groups (p > 0.05). At 6 months, OSFMD resulted in OHQoL and OIDP global scores improvements in both groups (p  less then  0.05), with no significant difference between groups. The most impaired activity at baseline was eating and cleaning teeth for both groups.

    The aim of this prospective follow-up study was to investigate the difference before and after surgery in the six-minute walking distance (6MD) of lung cancer patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to examine the long-term effect of the change in 6MD in the early postoperative period.

    This was a retrospective analysis of 25 COPD patients who underwent lung cancer surgery and perioperative rehabilitation in our department. Assessments of 6WD were carried out preoperatively and at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. The changes in 6MD at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively compared with the preoperative value were designated the 1-month Δ6MD, the 3-month Δ6MD, and the 6-month Δ6MD, and the associations between them were investigated.

    The mean 6MD distance was 412.0±27.3 m (95% confidence interval) preoperatively, 369.0±33.8 m at 1 month, 395.6±32.2 m at 3 months, and 400.0±38.2 m at 6 months, with a significant difference between the preoperative and 1-month values (P<0.01). There were strong correlations between 1-month and 3-month Δ6MDs (
    =0.74, P<0.0001) and between 1-month and 6-month Δ6MDs (

The present evidence shows that non-human mammals and birds, regardless of their limitations, are capable of performing memory strategies, although there seem to be some differences between their ability and that of humans in terms of flexibility and efficiency. These findings have several implications relevant to the psychology of memory and cognition, and are likely to explain differences between higher cognitive abilities of humans and non-humans. This study analyzed 36 effect sizes from 29 primary studies identified from ERIC documents, Sage Publishing, Google Scholar, and repositories from 2010 to 2020, and a total of 2111 students. In order to support calculation accuracy, a Comprehensive Meta-analysis (CMA) software was used. The effect size is determined using the Hedges equation, with an acceptable confidence level of 95%. It is known that the overall effect size of using GeoGebra software on the mathematical abilities of students is 0.96 based on the estimation of the random-effect model, and the standard error is 0.08. These findings indicate that, on average, students exposed to GeoGebra-based learning outperformed math abilities, which was initially equivalent to 82% of students in traditional classrooms. This study considers the five characteristics of the study. It showed that the GeoGebra software used was more effective in sample conditions less than or equal to 30. Providing classrooms with sufficient numbers of computers allowed students to use them individually, which was necessary to achieve a higher level of effectiveness. GeoGebra software is more effective when the treatment duration is set to less than or equal to four weeks.     Experimental study with 20 normophonic adult women. They emitted the sustained vowel / a / and then it was applied to FES during emission of the same vowel. There were five series with three minutes of emission each, interspersed with passive rest. The electrical stimulus was at the MSI by the participant, adjusted by series. Before and after the emissions the voices were recorded and the MPT and the intensity of the stimuli were collected. The vocal quality was rated by judges. Statistical analysis made it possible to compare pre and post emission / electrostimulation data in each phase. Qualitative analysis was performed based on self-reported symptoms.

    We retrospectively reviewed the medical history, imaging studies and urodynamic findings in a series of 87 consecutive patients with inflammatory encephalomyelopathy. Age at disease onset ranged from 3 to 76 years with an average of 35.4 years. The type of bladder dysfunction, neurological impairment and spinal magnetic resonance imaging were assessed. Upper urinary tract was evaluated. The urological complications and subsequent management were reported.

    The mean follow-up was 3.0 years (range from 0.5 to 6.6 yrs). Initial evaluation revealed detrusor overactivity in 53 patients (61.1%), detrusor underactivity in 34 patients (39.1%), detrusor leak point pressure greater than 40 cm water and decreased compliance in 29.9% of patients. At the latest follow-up, a total of 64 patients (73.6%) had persistent bladder dysfunction requiring treatment, mainly presenting as urinary incontinence and incomplefunction.

Additionally, the operational stability of the system and the evolution of its microbial community under microaerobic conditions were evaluated. Microaeration was demonstrated to be an effective strategy to improve the limited removal/biotransformation of the evaluated OMPs in short-HRT anaerobic wastewater treatment systems. The rise in the airflow rate considerably increased the removal efficiencies of all OMPs. However, there seems to be a saturation limit for the biochemical reactions. Then, the best results were obtained with 4 mL air min-1 (0.101 L O2 L-1 feed) (~90%) because, above this flow rate, the efficiency increase was negligible. The long-term exposure to microaerobic conditions (249 days) led the microbiota to a gradual evolution. The triply coordinated hydroxyl groups (μ3-OH) associated with AF and CF appeared at different positions as shown in the diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) analyses, confirming that AF contains more adsorption reactive sites (μ3-OH). Mechanisms for monodentate formations and a stable six-member ring structure were proposed. The X-ray absorption near the edge structure (XANES) and XPS results suggested that the iron valence in AF was dominated by Fe (III). XANES also demonstrated that the amorphous structure found in the AF was caused by the disordered tetrahedron and octahedron alignments, leading to a higher phosphate adsorption.

  • Emilia sonchifolia is a medical plant belonging to the family of Asteraceae, mainly used as a traditional Chinese medicine with the function of anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial and so on. During October to November 2020, the plants showing abnormal symptoms including witches'-broom, internode shortening, leaf chlorosis and leaflet were found in Hainan province, a tropical island of China. The total DNA of the plant samples were extracted using 0.10 g fresh plant leaves using CTAB method. PCR reactions were performed using primers R16mF2/R16mR1 and secAfor1/secArev3 specific for phytoplasma 16S rRNA and secA gene fragments. The target productions of the two gene fragments of phytoplasma were detected in the DNA from three symptomatic plant samples whereas not in the DNA from the symptomless plant samples. The two gene fragments of the DNA extracted from the symptomatic plant samples were all identical, with the length of 1324 bp 16S rRNA and 760 bp secA gene sequence fragments, putatively encoding 253 (secA) amino acids sequence. The phytoplasma strain was named as Emilia sonchifolia witches'-broom (EsWB) phytoplasma, EsWB-hnda strain. To our knowledge, this was the first report that Emilia sonchifolia witches'-broom disease was caused by the phytoplasma belonging to16SrII-V subgroup in Hainan island of China, with close relationship to 16SrII peanut witches'-broom group phytoplasma strains infecting the plants like peanut, Desmodium ovalifolium and cleome from the same island of China and cassava from Viet Nam.In November 2020, leaf sheath on maize (Zea mays) was detected in southeastern Jiangsu (Nantong municipality; 120.54° E, 31.58° N) in China. Physiologically mature plants, 13 weeks of cultivation (at the harvest stage), exhibited red-brown lesions in stem and leaves, and dried-up stem (Figure 1). The symptoms were observed on approximately 95% of the maize plants in a 0.8 ha maize field surrounded by old sorghum fields and the crop yield was decreased by 70-85% with respect previous years, when no disease symptoms were detected. Small pieces, approximately 0.3 cm2 in size, of symptomatic tissue were surface sterilized in 1.5% NaOCl for 1 min, and washed twice with sterile ddH2O. The pathogen was also reported to cause leaf spot on maize in Brazil in 2004 (Do Amaral et al. 2004); however, this is the first report of E. sorghinum causing leaf sheath and leaf spot on maize in China.     Emilia sonchifolia is a medical plant belonging to the family of Asteraceae, mainly used as a traditional Chinese medicine with the function of anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial and so on. During October to November 2020, the plants showing abnormal symptoms including witches'-broom, internode shortening, leaf chlorosis and leaflet were found in Hainan province, a tropical island of China. The total DNA of the plant samples were extracted using 0.10 g fresh plant leaves using CTAB method. PCR reactions were performed using primers R16mF2/R16mR1 and secAfor1/secArev3 specific for phytoplasma 16S rRNA and secA gene fragments. The target productions of the two gene fragments of phytoplasma were detected in the DNA from three symptomatic plant samples whereas not in the DNA from the symptomless plant samples. The two gene fragments of the DNA extracted from the symptomatic plant samples were all identical, with the length of 1324 bp 16S rRNA and 760 bp secA gene sequence fragments, putatively encoding 253 (secA) amino acids sequence. All VR experiences were 360-degree video based. Consumer level of engagement in the different contextual settings was also investigated. The results showed that VR had a significant effect on participants' hedonic responses to the food products. Beef was rated significantly higher in terms of liking for all sensory attributes when consumed in the VR restaurant. While for chocolate, the VR countryside context generated significantly higher hedonic scores for flavour and overall liking in comparison to the sensory booth. Tissue and blood samples were collected from patients suffering from chronic rhinosinusitis with (CRSwNP) and without nasal polyps (CRSsNP), and from healthy controls. A peptide pool derived from C. albicans antigen was added to tissue and blood samples. After 6 days, lymphocytes were analyzed by multicolor flow cytometry. Activation was assessed by the intracellular marker Ki-67, and the cytokine secretion was measured. Tissue CD8+ T cells of CRSsNP patients showed a significantly higher proportion of Ki-67+ cells after activation with C. albicans antigen compared to peripheral blood CD8+ T cells. Cytokine secretion in response to C. albicans antigen was similar for all study groups. In this study, C. albicans-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were detected in peripheral blood and mucosal tissue in all study groups.   • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune and inflammatory disease worldwide, but understanding its pathogenesis is still limited. In this study, plasma untargeted metabolomics of a discovery cohort and targeted analysis of a verification cohort were performed by gas chromatograph mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Univariate and multivariate statistical analysis were utilized to reveal differential metabolites, followed by the construction of biomarker panel through random forest (RF) algorithm. The pathways involved in RA were enriched by differential metabolites using Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) suite. Untargeted metabolomics revealed eighteen significantly altered metabolites in RA. Among these metabolites, a three-metabolite marker panel consisting of L-cysteine, citric acid and L-glutamine was constructed, using random forest algorithm that could predict RA with high accuracy, sensitivity and specificity based on a multivariate exploratory receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The panel was further validated by support vector machine (SVM) and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) algorithms, and also verified with targeted metabolomics using a verification cohort. Additionally, the dysregulated taurine biosynthesis pathway in RA was revealed by an integrated analysis of metabolomics and transcriptomics. Our findings in this study not only provided a mechanism underlying RA pathogenesis, but also offered alternative therapeutic targets for RA.

    Retrospective study. Dogs diagnosed with clinically relevant proteinuria (nonazotemic dogs with a urine protein-to-creatinine ratio [UPC] ≥2 and azotemic dogs with UPC ≥0.5) were separated into 3 groups telmisartan alone, with benazepril, or with mycophenolate. The UPC was recorded before treatment and at subsequent follow-ups (1, 3, 6, and 12 months, as available). Response to treatment was categorized as complete (UPC ˂0.5), partial (UPC decreased by ≥50% but still ≥0.5), or no response (UPC decreased by <50%). Serum creatinine and potassium concentrations and arterial pressure also were recorded.

    In the telmisartan group, treatment response (UPC ˂0.5 or decreased by ≥50%) was observed in 70%, 68%, 80%, and 60% of dogs at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months follow-up, respectively. No significant changes were noted in serum creatinine or potassium concentrations, or in arterial blood pressure at all follow-up times. Adverse effects consisted of mild self-limiting gastrointestinal signs in 5 dogs. Two dogs developed clinically relevant azotemia that required discontinuation of the treatment before the first follow-up.

    Lidocaine is commonly applied to improve the tolerance of esophageal manometry (EM) and ambulatory pH monitoring (PM). We recently published data suggesting a benefit to this practice and we aimed to confirm these findings in a randomized trial.

    We conducted a double-blind, randomized trial of lidocaine nasal spray versus placebo (saline) before EM and PM. Patients referred to our center who met inclusion criteria were enrolled. Patients were asked to fill a questionnaire after their test and patient-reported adverse effects were compared.

    Three hundred and four patients were enrolled in our trial. Lidocaine and placebo groups were demographically similar. The primary outcome, pain during catheter insertion, occurred in 60/148 (40.5%) patients in the lidocaine group versus in 72/152 (47.4%) patients in the placebo group (OR 0.76 [95% CI 0.48-1.20]; p=0.23). Patients receiving lidocaine were less likely to report nausea during test recording (OR 0.48 [95% CI 0.24-0.91]; p=0.02) and reported slightly lower intensity of pain during both catheter insertion and test recording (4.68±2.06 versus 5.41±2.24 on 10; p=0.048 and 3.71±2.00 versus 4.93±2.55 on 10; p=0.03, respectively). Furthermore, patients receiving lidocaine were less likely to report their test as globally uncomfortable and painful (57% vs. 75%; p=0.003 and 14% vs. 21%; p=0.02, respectively). No events of systemic lidocaine toxicity occurred during the study period.

In this study, plasma untargeted metabolomics of a discovery cohort and targeted analysis of a verification cohort were performed by gas chromatograph mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Univariate and multivariate statistical analysis were utilized to reveal differential metabolites, followed by the construction of biomarker panel through random forest (RF) algorithm. The pathways involved in RA were enriched by differential metabolites using Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) suite. Untargeted metabolomics revealed eighteen significantly altered metabolites in RA. Among these metabolites, a three-metabolite marker panel consisting of L-cysteine, citric acid and L-glutamine was constructed, using random forest algorithm that could predict RA with high accuracy, sensitivity and specificity based on a multivariate exploratory receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The panel was further validated by support vector machine (SVM) and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) algorithms, and also verified with targeted metabolomics using a verification cohort. Additionally, the dysregulated taurine biosynthesis pathway in RA was revealed by an integrated analysis of metabolomics and transcriptomics. Our findings in this study not only provided a mechanism underlying RA pathogenesis, but also offered alternative therapeutic targets for RA. Lidocaine is commonly applied to improve the tolerance of esophageal manometry (EM) and ambulatory pH monitoring (PM). We recently published data suggesting a benefit to this practice and we aimed to confirm these findings in a randomized trial. We conducted a double-blind, randomized trial of lidocaine nasal spray versus placebo (saline) before EM and PM. Patients referred to our center who met inclusion criteria were enrolled. Patients were asked to fill a questionnaire after their test and patient-reported adverse effects were compared. Three hundred and four patients were enrolled in our trial. Lidocaine and placebo groups were demographically similar. The primary outcome, pain during catheter insertion, occurred in 60/148 (40.5%) patients in the lidocaine group versus in 72/152 (47.4%) patients in the placebo group (OR 0.76 [95% CI 0.48-1.20]; p=0.23). Patients receiving lidocaine were less likely to report nausea during test recording (OR 0.48 [95% CI 0.24-0.91]; p=0.02) and reported slightly lower intensity of pain during both catheter insertion and test recording (4.68±2.06 versus 5.41±2.24 on 10; p=0.048 and 3.71±2.00 versus 4.93±2.55 on 10; p=0.03, respectively).   • To evaluate how transtibial amputation (TT) affects bodyweight distribution, voluntary knee joint position sense (JPS), and quadriceps (QUA) and hamstrings (HAM) strength in prosthetized patients.

    Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in China. Intensity-modulated radiation therapy and volume-modulated arc therapy have become the main treatments for esophageal carcinoma; however, side effects caused by radiotherapy greatly impact the quality of life in these patients. This study aimed to explore the impact of serum superoxide dismutase (***) levels on the prognosis of patients with ESCC undergoing radiotherapy.

    Patients aged between 18 and 80 years with lower-middle ESCC who underwent radiotherapy were eligible for this assessment. Adverse events, responses, treatment outcomes, and overall survival (OS) were assessed. Between 2012 and 2014, 195 patients were enrolled, of which 65 were assigned to the low- and high-*** groups based on their serum *** values.

Moreover, the phylogeny of Gonyaulacales was inferred based on 329 rRNA sequence accessions compiled in a curated sequence data base, with as **** as possible type material equivalents included. Gonyaulacales were monophyletic and segregated into seven lineages at high systematic level, of which †Lingulodiniaceae constituted the first branch of the Gonyaulacales. Their type species had a plate formula APC (Po, X, cp), 3', 3a, 6'' 6c, 6s, 6''', 2'''' and is taxonomically clarified by epitypification. Recommendations for this important taxonomic tool are provided, with a focus on microorganisms. Most gonyaulacalean taxa established at generic rank are monophyletic, with Alexandrium, Coolia and Gonyaulax as notable exceptions. From an evolutionary perspective, gonyaulacalean dinophytes with quinqueform hypotheca are monophyletic and derive from a paraphyletic group showing the sexiform configuration.Macroalgal samples were collected from coastal waters in subboreal to subtropical zones in Japan ( less then 3-30 m depths) and 32 clonal strains of non-motile dinoflagellate-like protists were established. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of the LSU rDNA D1/D2, SSU rDNA, ITS region, and concatenated SSU rDNA + LSU rDNA D1/D2 sequences revealed that the strains nested within the genus Alexandrium. They were separated into three novel phylotypes Alexandrium spp. type 1, type 2, and type 3. Type 1 and type 2 were widely distributed in Japan from the temperate to subtropical zones, whereas type 3 was restricted to the temperate zone. Growth experiments in strains belonging to the three phylotypes revealed that the occurrence ratios of motile cells were very low (≤ 1.1% of the total cells). The production of paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins, tetrodotoxin, and cyclic imines was assessed in strains belonging to the three phylotypes by LC/MS/MS analysis. From an evolutionary perspective, gonyaulacalean dinophytes with quinqueform hypotheca are monophyletic and derive from a paraphyletic group showing the sexiform configuration.Macroalgal samples were collected from coastal waters in subboreal to subtropical zones in Japan ( less then 3-30 m depths) and 32 clonal strains of non-motile dinoflagellate-like protists were established. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of the LSU rDNA D1/D2, SSU rDNA, ITS region, and concatenated SSU rDNA + LSU rDNA D1/D2 sequences revealed that the strains nested within the genus Alexandrium. They were separated into three novel phylotypes Alexandrium spp. type 1, type 2, and type 3. Analysis of the concatenated sequences revealed that the most closely related species for the three phylotypes was A. ostenfeldii. Most cells from strains of the three phylotypes were non-motile and hemispherical to spherical in shape. The average diameters of the non-motile cells were between 35 and 39 µm. Type 1 and type 2 were widely distributed in Japan from the temperate to subtropical zones, whereas type 3 was restricted to the temperate zone. Furthermore, type 2 was widespread from shallow to deep waters, whereas type 1 and type 3 were restricted to deep waters. Growth experiments in strains belonging to the three phylotypes revealed that the occurrence ratios of motile cells were very low (≤ 1.1% of the total cells). The production of paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins, tetrodotoxin, and cyclic imines was assessed in strains belonging to the three phylotypes by LC/MS/MS analysis. The strains did not produce any of the toxins tested. The strains of the three phylotypes showed lethal toxicity to mice by intraperitoneal administration.
