Moreover, given limitations associated with cognitive testing in isolation, there is a potential role for comprehensive neuropsychological assessment to identify cognitive changes in physicians and provide a supportive pathway to preserve physicians' ability to practice medicine.Little evidence is available about structural factors associated with the retention in care for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) in Vietnam. This retrospective longitudinal study was conducted among PLWH initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) in 62 ART clinics from 15 provinces, to estimate retention rates and identify specific related structural factors. Facility-related factors such as location, duration of HIV service implantation, level of healthcare facility, frequency of drugs dispensed, integration of HIV care were examined. Cox proportional hazard model was employed to estimate the retention rate and association between facility-level factors and loss-to-follow up (LTFU). Among 20,119 patients, the retention rates after 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months were 96.5% (95% CI = 96.2%-96.7%), 93.6% (95% CI = 93.2%-93.9%), 90.2% (95% CI = 89.8%-90.6%), 87.9% (95% CI = 87.4%-88.4%) and 86.0% (95% CI = 85.4%-86.5%), respectively. Facility-level factors associated with increased risk of LTFU included duration of HIV service implementation, frequency of drug dispensed per month, integration of HIV care and of treatment procedures into general care, clinics at central or provincial level and in the Middle region of Vietnam. Such association should be addressed in future care planning and HIV/AIDS management to ensure greater coverage of therapy in Vietnam.
Evaluation over time is important in assessing the reduction of the syndesmosis after suture-button fixation for ankle malleolar fractures. The purposes of this study were to evaluate time-dependent change in the syndesmotic reduction immediately after suture-button fixation for ankle malleolus fractures and 1 year after surgery using computed tomography, and to investigate the reliability of the measurement values to evaluate the reduction of syndesmosis.
We assessed 28 patients who underwent suture-button fixation for ankle fractures. Syndesmotic reduction was assessed within 2 weeks of the fracture surgery and 1 year after surgery using axial computer tomographic images. Side-to-side differences in the anterior, central, and posterior tibiofibular distances, anteroposterior fibular translation, fibular rotation, and syndesmosis area were measured.
The mean anterior tibiofibular distance and anteroposterior fibular translation were 1.8 mm and 1.5 mm, respectively, after syndesmotic fixation. They decreased to 1.2 mm and 0.6 mm, respectively, at 1 year after surgery (
= .03 and
= .01, respectively). The other measurement values did not change over time. The minimum detectable change in the distance of measurements was 1 mm or less.
The anterior tibiofibular distance and anteroposterior fibular translation had decreased 1 year after fixation in ankle malleolar fractures with syndesmotic suture button. Even if the fibula is posteriorly malreduced by the time computed tomography is performed immediately after surgery, the fibula may return to a good position 1 year after surgery.

For very young candidates ( less then 35 years old), participants favored women over men. However, participants' intention to vote for male candidates increased with age until candidates were about 45 years old and then slightly decreased. In contrast, participants' intention to vote for female candidates consistently decreased with candidates' age. Perceived attractiveness and warmth accounted for some of the gender differences in the effect of candidates' perceived age.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer for Chinese Americans. Family history (FH) plays an important role in clinical practice for CRC prevention. Nevertheless, Chinese Americans' FH of CRC communication with primary care physicians (PCPs) are still unknown.
This study examined Chinese Americans' behavior and the underlying psychological factors for FH of CRC communication with PCPs.
A total number of 742 Chinese Americans completed a survey developed based on the health belief model, the theory of planned behavior, and the social cognitive theory. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling.
Majority of the Chinese American participants (75.3%) had never discussed FH of CRC with their PCPs. Living patients were contacted and interviewed to determine the status of their implant (revised or unrevised) and to answer a simple questionnaire concerning overall satisfaction, pain, and functional improvement, as in a previous study. Thirty-three (26.2%) patients with 33 (25%) ankles of the original series were alive at a minimum of 20 years postoperatively, with a median follow-up of 22 years. They were asked to return to the office for standing anteroposterior and lateral ankle and foot radiographs or to send these radiographs if performed elsewhere. Specifically, the presence of argon helped to improve the plasma uniformity, making the reaction system more energy efficient by operating at a low specific energy input range allowing abundant formation of nitrogen vibrational species.Conductive hydrogels can be used in wearable electronics integrated with skin, but the bulk structure of existing hydrogel-based temperature sensors limits the wearing comfort, response/recovery speeds, and sensitivity. Here, stretchable and transparent temperature sensors based on a novel thin-film sandwich structure (TFSS) are designed, which display unprecedented thermal sensitivity (24.54%/°C), fast response time (0.19 s) and recovery time (0.08 s), a broad detection range (from -28 to 95.3 °C), high resolution (0.8 °C), and high stability. The thin hydrogel layer (12.15 μm) is encapsulated by two thin elastomer layers, which prevent the water evaporation and enhance the heat transfer, leading to the boosted stability and accelerated response/recovery speeds. The nondrying and antifreezing capabilities are further promoted by the hydratable lithium bromide (LiBr) incorporated in the hydrogel, enabling it to avoid dehydration in an extremely arid environment and freeze below subzero temperatures (freezing point below -120 °C). A comparative study reveals that the thermal sensitivity displayed by the TFSS sensor in capacitance mode is several times higher than that in conventional conductance/resistance mode above room temperature. Importantly, a new mechanism based on a horizontal plate capacitance model is proposed to understand the high sensitivity by considering the permittivity and geometry variations of TFSS. The thin TFSS, stretchability and transparency enable the sensor to be conformally and comfortably attached to human skin for real-time and reliable monitoring of various human motions, physical states, skin temperature, etc., without affecting the appearance.

50 subjects of both genders in the age range of 19-36 years with a diagnosis of acute operculitis comprised the group for study. After thorough clinical examination, uniform orthopantomograms (Rotograph 230 eur, Villa Italy) for each of the individual subject participating in the study was made. Four parameters were evaluated as plausible prognostic factors for the progression of acute operculitis. Chi-square test was used to foretell the role of individual factors studied in the progression of acute operculitis. Significance was set at p less than equal to 0.05. For all statistical analysis, the SPSS (version 16) software was used.

To make a quantitative assessment of the impact of predatory publishing has on a single author over a year, analyzing the number of invitations, the subject areas of the inviting journals and their characteristics.
An analysis of all invitations to publication, received during 12 months, was carried out in order to analyze their number, the area of specialization, the presence in reputable databases, publication criteria and presence in the Beall's list.
A total of 864 invitations had been received at the end of the 12 months, all with open access policies. Ninety-nine were from journals not on Beall's list. Eight were indexed on reputable databases. The thematic areas were distributed as follows 370 dental, 346 medical, 122 unspecified subject, 26 non-medical.

The aim of this study is to determine the knowledge of periodontal health and prevention of periodontal diseases of a pool of pharmacists working in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
A 22 questions questionnaire about oral health was sent by mail to all the pharmacies working in Friuli Venezia Giulia and to the most known associations of pharmacists. The data were collected and analysed by Google Forms software.
164 questionnaires were analysed. 91% of the pharmacists assert to give advices about prevention and treatment of oral affection during professional practice but 97% never attended university courses about it. Only 21% took part in post graduate courses about oral health. Most of them have not enough notions about periodontal disease.
The findings from this study highlight that pharmacists have not enough knowledge about periodontal disease and its treatment but every day they provide advices about oral health. It would be appropriate a better organization of post-graduate courses about oral health and prevention of periodontal diseases.

The aim of this analytic observational study is to define the effects of clenching and swallowing on pupil diameter, and how an oral appliance can affect the outcome of these tasks, to establish their influence on the sympathetic-parasympathetic balance.

Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) is a signaling molecule involved in angiogenesis and is upregulated in response to tissue hypoxia. We aimed to assess the association of Ang-2 with (1) PE severity, (2) echocardiographic and invasive hemodynamic markers of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction, and (3) need for intensive treatment. Patients presenting to our institution with acute PE were included in a prospective database and blood samples were collected and stored for later analysis. A total of 65 patients were included in the study. Ang-2 correlated with PE risk stratification and echocardiographic and invasive hemodynamic markers of RV dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension. An Ang-2 level of > 4101 pg/mL had an odds ratio of 7.4 (95% CI 1.53-12.5, p less then 0.01) for intensive care unit (ICU) admission. In conclusion, Ang-2 correlates with PE severity, RV dysfunction, and need for ICU admission. Nowadays, scientists are keener exploring marine bioactive peptides precisely due to their unique structural and biological properties. These MBAs have reported ameliorating potential against different diseases like hypertension, diabetes, obesity, HIV, cancer, oxidation, and inflammation. Furthermore, MBAs isolated from various marine organisms may also have a beneficial role in the cosmetic, nutraceutical, and food industries. Few marine peptides and their derivative are approved for commercial use, while many MBAs are in various pre-clinical and clinical trials. This review mainly focuses on the diversity of marine bioactive peptides in marine organisms and their production procedures, such as chemical and enzymatic hydrolysis. Female Wistar albino rats were divided randomly into six groups ischemia-reperfusion (IRG); ischemia-reperfusion + 0.2 mg/kg JWH-133 (JIRG1), ischemia-reperfusion + 1 mg/kg JWH-133 (JIRG2); ischemia-reperfusion + 5 mg/kg JWH-133 (JIRG3); solvent control, and sham control. Administration of JWH-133 synthetic cannabinoid reduced nuclear factor kappa-B immunoreactivity as well as TUNEL positivity scores and malondialdehyde levels. These reductions were significant in all cases except for the malondialdehyde levels in the 1 mg/kg JWH-133 group. This manuscript aims to provide brief but comprehensive manuscript summaries highlighting the conclusions and scientific importance of seven exceptional manuscripts published in recent years within the field of drug metabolism. Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) is a signaling molecule involved in angiogenesis and is upregulated in response to tissue hypoxia. We aimed to assess the association of Ang-2 with (1) PE severity, (2) echocardiographic and invasive hemodynamic markers of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction, and (3) need for intensive treatment. Patients presenting to our institution with acute PE were included in a prospective database and blood samples were collected and stored for later analysis. A total of 65 patients were included in the study. Ang-2 correlated with PE risk stratification and echocardiographic and invasive hemodynamic markers of RV dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension. An Ang-2 level of > 4101 pg/mL had an odds ratio of 7.4 (95% CI 1.53-12.5, p less then 0.01) for intensive care unit (ICU) admission. In conclusion, Ang-2 correlates with PE severity, RV dysfunction, and need for ICU admission. Furthermore, MBAs isolated from various marine organisms may also have a beneficial role in the cosmetic, nutraceutical, and food industries. Few marine peptides and their derivative are approved for commercial use, while many MBAs are in various pre-clinical and clinical trials. This review mainly focuses on the diversity of marine bioactive peptides in marine organisms and their production procedures, such as chemical and enzymatic hydrolysis. Female Wistar albino rats were divided randomly into six groups ischemia-reperfusion (IRG); ischemia-reperfusion + 0.2 mg/kg JWH-133 (JIRG1), ischemia-reperfusion + 1 mg/kg JWH-133 (JIRG2); ischemia-reperfusion + 5 mg/kg JWH-133 (JIRG3); solvent control, and sham control. Ovarian ischemia was established for 3 h followed by reperfusion for 3 h. Ovarian tissue was investigated using histology, immunohistochemistry and biochemistry. Administration of JWH-133 synthetic cannabinoid reduced nuclear factor kappa-B immunoreactivity as well as TUNEL positivity scores and malondialdehyde levels. These reductions were significant in all cases except for the malondialdehyde levels in the 1 mg/kg JWH-133 group. According to medical experience, traditional Chinese exercises (TCE) have been applied for COVID-19 prevention, adjuvant treatment or rehabilitation, and achieved some curative effects. They can enhance the body immunity, improve the function of organs, especially cardiopulmonary function, promote physical and mental rehabilitation by adjusting the body, regulating the breath, regulating the mind. This paper aims to investigate the potential value of TCE for health preservation in the prevention and adjuvant treatment for COVID-19 according to an overview of application and analysis of existing evidence. On this basis, this review proposed the TCE plan by visiting clinical and practice experts, so as to provide some references for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 with TCE in the world.The pathophysiology of neurological diseases related to potassium-channel dysfunction such as epilepsy is increasingly linked to immune system modulation. However, there are limited reports of which interleukin-4 (IL-4) can act on the neuroinflammatory response after seizure. Hence, we evaluated the effect of IL-4 in murine model of neuroexcitotoxcity using kaliotoxin (KTx), a potassium-channel blocker. Results showed that IL-4 treatment can significantly reduce the neuronal death induced by KTx. Probably by decreasing mitochondria swelling, reversing oxidative damage and enhancing Bcl-2 expression. Furthermore, IL-4 treatment significantly reduced TNF-α expression and enhanced GFAP and IL-10 expressions in the brain. IL-4 can be neuroprotective in epileptogenesis.Here we describe the structure elucidation and quantification of six glucosinolates (GSLs) from the roots of the desert plant Ochradenus baccatus, Delile 1813 (family Resedaceae; order Brassicales). To develop an improved interictal electroencephalogram (EEG) grading scale for children with infantile spasms founded on elements with adequate inter-rater reliability (IRR) to justify its further study for clinical and research purposes.
Three blinded reviewers assessed five-minute sleep epochs in 93 EEGs from 62 children (31 consecutive controls, 31 consecutive infantile spasms [pretreatment and posttreatment studies]) using a longitudinal bipolar montage. We determined the IRR of background amplitude, epileptiform discharges, >3 spike foci (including <50 % or >50 %), grouped multifocal spikes, paroxysmal voltage attenuations, and symmetry of sleep spindles. Data were used to finalize the 2021 BASED (Burden of AmplitudeS and Epileptiform Discharges) score.
All elements included in the 2021 BASED score had moderate to near perfect IRR. Among controls, >200 μv background waves occurred commonly in the bilateral posterior temporal (T3-T5, T4-T6) and midline (Fz-Cz, Cz-Pz) regions. Excluding mels of IRR and correlates well with the presence or absence of infantile spasms.
Evidence exists for the role of the hypothalamic hamartoma's topography as a determinant for the clinical presentation. How the hamartoma relation to the hypothalamic structures can make clinical presentations, severity and surgery outcomes different from patient to patient is largely unknown. Our aim was to analyze the effect of fine anatomical topography on clinical spectrum and radiosurgery outcome.
Forty-eight epileptic patients with hypothalamic hamartoma were treated by Gamma Knife Surgery and were reviewed for fine topography and morphology using magnetic resonance neuroimaging. We evaluated different topographic patterns; contact to prominent structures (the mammillary body, tuber cinereum and pituitary stalk), the degree of involvement within sagittally-oriented regions, (mammillary, tuberal, and supra optic) coronally-oriented zones (periventricular, medial, and lateral), lesion dimensions (length, width, and height),and volumes (total, intra-hypothalamic, and extra-hypothalamic volumes). This data were statistically analysed for correlation with all clinical variables and epilepsy surgery outcome.

This study shows that clinicians recognise the on-going need for training in prescribing, but the lack of training is one of the factors contributing to errors, which suggests that more education is needed, not just for GPs in training, but for qualified GPs as well.Objective This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of episodic primary headaches (EPH) and temporomandibular dysfunction's (TMD) effect in experienced scuba divers.Methods A form consisting of the Fonseca Anamnestic Index and a structured headache questionnaire was sent to individuals using social media platforms.Results A total of 132 divers and 104 non-divers were included the study. In male divers, EPH and TMD were not different from the non-diver group (p = 0.1, p = 0.1), and TMD had an effect on increasing the possibility of migraine (OR = 2.5, p = 0.04). In female divers, the possibility of EPH and TMD were also lower (OR = 0.1, p less then 0.001, OR = 0.2, p = 0.01).Conclusion Scuba diving does not pose a risk for EPH or TMD in either gender. TMD treatment in male divers is important for uncontrolled migraine attacks.Objectives. Fire departments train divers for search, rescue and recovery in and under water. Their tasks likely exert major physical and psychological stress. This study hypothesizes that training is well balanced, following a learning spiral. Methods. Seven firefighters participated, performing 272 dives in different waters. Measurements included pulmonary function (body plethysmography); heart rate (HR) and air consumption during dives; personality variables with the state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI) and psychological stress with the task load index (NASA-TLX). Results. Pulmonary function was maintained at the end of training dives. Conclusion. Physiological values remained unaltered throughout training, i.e. workload and increase in competence properly matched. Cochlear implant (CI) requires lifelong financial commitments to ensure that the devices always operate optimally.
We estimated the long-term maintenance costs of CI including repair of speech processors, replacement of damaged parts, and battery requirements.
Forty-one parents of children who received CIs in Malaysian government hospitals were enrolled. The first 2 years of CI usage were covered by warranty. The cost increased three-fold from by 4 years of CI usage and then doubled by 8 years of usage. About 75% of parents commented that the costs were burdensome.
Our findings will be useful for parents whose children receive CI and will allow medical personnel to counsel the parents about the costs.

As the global prevalence of cardiovascular disorders rises, so does the role of nurses in cardiovascular health promotion. This review applies Pender's Health Promotion Model (HPM) to an evaluation of the current research on the role of nursing assessment as an intervention to impact cardiovascular health.
This scoping review was conducted using the PRISMA-ScR framework for scoping reviews. A search of electronic databases (CINAHL, psychINFO, Medline) resulted in 335 records, which were then screened for eligibility for inclusion using the criteria (a) English language, (b) publication between 2009 and 2019, and (c) nursing intervention studies. A total of ten articles met criteria and are included in this scoping review.
Half (
= 5) of the articles cited a theoretical framework. We also present new evidence that lipo-chitooligosaccharides produced by both ectomycorrhizal fungi and various species of rhizobia that do not associate with Populus sp. can induce nuclear calcium spiking in the roots of Populus sp. Thus, we argue Populus sp. already possesses the molecular machinery necessary for perceiving rhizobia, and the next step in engineering symbiosis with rhizobia should be focused on inducing bacterial accommodation and nodule organogenesis.
This study shows that clinicians recognise the on-going need for training in prescribing, but the lack of training is one of the factors contributing to errors, which suggests that more education is needed, not just for GPs in training, but for qualified GPs as well.Objective This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of episodic primary headaches (EPH) and temporomandibular dysfunction's (TMD) effect in experienced scuba divers.Methods A form consisting of the Fonseca Anamnestic Index and a structured headache questionnaire was sent to individuals using social media platforms.Results A total of 132 divers and 104 non-divers were included the study. In male divers, EPH and TMD were not different from the non-diver group (p = 0.1, p = 0.1), and TMD had an effect on increasing the possibility of migraine (OR = 2.5, p = 0.04). In female divers, the possibility of EPH and TMD were also lower (OR = 0.1, p less then 0.001, OR = 0.2, p = 0.01).Conclusion Scuba diving does not pose a risk for EPH or TMD in either gender. TMD treatment in male divers is important for uncontrolled migraine attacks.Objectives. Fire departments train divers for search, rescue and recovery in and under water. Their tasks likely exert major physical and psychological stress. This study hypothesizes that training is well balanced, following a learning spiral. Methods. Seven firefighters participated, performing 272 dives in different waters. Measurements included pulmonary function (body plethysmography); heart rate (HR) and air consumption during dives; personality variables with the state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI) and psychological stress with the task load index (NASA-TLX). Results. Pulmonary function was maintained at the end of training dives. Cochlear implant (CI) requires lifelong financial commitments to ensure that the devices always operate optimally. We estimated the long-term maintenance costs of CI including repair of speech processors, replacement of damaged parts, and battery requirements. Forty-one parents of children who received CIs in Malaysian government hospitals were enrolled. The first 2 years of CI usage were covered by warranty. The cost increased three-fold from by 4 years of CI usage and then doubled by 8 years of usage. About 75% of parents commented that the costs were burdensome. Our findings will be useful for parents whose children receive CI and will allow medical personnel to counsel the parents about the costs. The purpose of this study was to compare intra-tumoral drug delivery, pharmacokinetics, and treatment response after doxorubicin (DOX) conventional (c-) versus drug-eluting embolic (DEE-) transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in a rabbit VX2 liver tumor model. Twenty-four rabbits with solitary liver tumors underwent c-TACE (n = 12) (12 water-in-oil emulsion, 0.6 mL volume, 2 mg DOX) or DEE-TACE (n = 12) (130,000 70-150 µm 2 mg DOX-loaded microspheres). Systemic, intra-tumoral, and liver DOX levels were measured using mass spectrometry up to 7-day post-procedure. Intra-tumoral DOX distribution was quantified using fluorescence imaging. Percent tumor necrosis was quantified by a pathologist blinded to treatment group. Lobar TACE was successfully performed in all cases. Peak concentration (CMAX, µg/mL) for plasma, tumor tissue, and liver were 0.666, 4.232, and 0.270 for c-TACE versus 0.103, 8.988, and 0.610 for DEE-TACE. Area under the concentration versus time curve (AUC, µg/mL ∗ min) for plasma, tumor tissue, and liver were 18.3, 27,078.8, and 1339.1 for c-TACE versus 16.4, 26,204.8, and 1969.6 for DEE-TACE. A single dose of intra-tumoral DOX maintained cytotoxic levels through 7-day post-procedure for both TACE varieties, with a half-life of 1.8 (c-TACE) and 0.8 (DEE-TACE) days. Tumor-to-normal liver DOX ratio was high (c-TACE, 20.2; DEE-TACE, 13.3). c-TACE achieved significantly higher DOX coverage of tumor vs. DEE-TACE (10.8% vs. 2.3%; P = 0.003). Percent tumor necrosis was similar (39% vs. 37%; P = 0.806). There are some obstacles to anesthesia when dealing with cancer treatment, such as physiological disturbances, tumor-related symptoms, and toxicity in traditional chemotherapy treatment. Therefore, it is important that a multisystemic, multidisciplinary and patient-centered approach is used to preserve perioperative homeostasis and immune function integrity. Adding adjuvants can help increase patient safety and satisfaction and improve clinical efficacy. Correctly paired anesthetic procedures and medications will reduce perioperative inflammatory and immune changes that could potentially contribute to improved results for future cancer patients. Further research into best practice strategies is required which will help to enhance the acute and long-term effects of cancer care in clinical practice.Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most common benign vascular tumor resulting from the hyper-proliferation of vascular endothelial cells. In treatment of various tumors including IH, β-elemene, a compound extracted from Rhizoma zedoariae, has been reported to have anti-tumor effect. However, the underlying mechanisms of β-elemene in hemangioma have remained uninvestigated. In this presented study, functional analysis showed that low concentrations of β-elemene promoted the proliferation, migration and tube formation of human hemangioma endothelial cells (HemECs), while high concentrations of β-elemene produced inhibitory effects. Further, we also found that angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) expression was down-regulated at both mRNA and protein levels, while hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1-α) was up-regulated in infantile hemangiomas tissues and HemECs at both mRNA and protein levels. This result suggested that ACE2 and HIF-1-α play roles in IH. ACE2 expression was down-regulated with the treatment of β-elemene at different dosage point. Interestingly, the expression of Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGFA) increased with treatment of low concentrations of β-elemene in HemECs, in contrary, the expression of VEGFA expression decreased with treatment of high concentrations of β-elemene. Despite the intriguing potential of physical exercise being able to preserve or even restore brain volume (grey matter volume in particular)-a tissue essential for both cognitive and physical function-no reviews have so far synthesized the existing knowledge from randomized controlled trials investigating exercise-induced changes of the brain's grey matter volume in populations at risk of neurodegeneration. Our objective was to critically review the existing evidence regarding this topic.
A systematic search was carried out in MEDLINE and EMBASE databases primo April 2020, to identify randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of aerobic training, resistance training or concurrent training on brain grey volume changes (by MRI) in adult clinical or healthy elderly populations.
A total of 20 articles (from 19 RCTs) evaluating 3-12months of aerobic, resistance, or concurrent training were identified and included, involving a total of 1662 participants (populations healthy older adults, older adults with mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease, adults with schizophrenia or multiple sclerosis or major depression).

We found higher values of BMI, BF, and WC, in the miners' population but observed no significant difference between populations. We found a decrease in VO2 of 11.6% at 1,600 m and 25.9% at 2,500 m compared to miners at sea level. An increase in (hsCRP) at 1,600 and 2,500 m regards sea level. We observed a high prevalence of overweight and obese subjects, which was related to the ad libitum availability of food and low physical activity (sedentarism). We found that work capacity was maintained despite a decreased VO2 max at moderate altitude. However, overweight and obesity support an increased risk of cardiometabolic disease in miner's which is unrelated to altitude. In contrast, an increased hsCRP level could be associated with increased inflammatory mechanisms at 1,600 and 2,500 m.It is supposed that the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) in the dorsal medulla includes gas sensor cells responsive to hypercapnia or hypoxia in the central nervous system. In the present study, we analyzed cellular responses to hypercapnia and hypoxia in the NTS region of newborn rat in vitro preparation. The brainstem and spinal cord were isolated from newborn rat (P0-P4) and were transversely cut at the level of the rostral area postrema. To detect cellular responses, calcium indicator Oregon Green was pressure-injected into the NTS just beneath the cut surface of either the caudal or rostral block of the medulla, and the preparation was superfused with artificial cerebrospinal fluid (25-26°C). We examined cellular responses initially to hypercapnic stimulation (to 8% CO2 from 2% CO2) and then to hypoxic stimulation (to 0% O2 from 95% O2 at 5% CO2). We tested these responses in standard solution and in two different synapse blockade solutions (1) cocktail blockers solution including bicuculline, strychnther conditions. This is the first study to reveal that the NTS includes hypercapnia and hypoxia dual-sensitive cells. Zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) is a protein that modulates intestinal TJs, and serum levels of ZO-1 has been suggested as a biomarker of disrupted barrier function in humans. Previous studies suggested that increased intestinal permeability was associated with evidence of TJ abnormalities. However, there is limited information on the serological measurement of ZO-1 and its relation to other tests of barrier function in healthy subjects. We investigated the correlation of serum ZO-1, with physiologic measures of intestinal permeability (as the ratio of the fractional excretion of lactulose-mannitol or LMR) in a cohort of 39 healthy FDRs of Crohn's disease (CD) patients. No significant correlation was found between LMR and ZO-1 levels (r2 = 0.004, P less then 0.71), or intestinal fatty acid binding proteins (I-FABP) (r2 = 0.004, P less then 0.71). The clinical benefit results from removing the primary site of destruction, thereby improving RBC survival. But whether changes in RBC properties contribute to the clinical benefit of splenectomy is unknown. In this study we used ektacytometry to investigate the longitudinal effects of splenectomy on RBC properties in five well-characterized HS patients at four different time points and in a case-control cohort of 26 HS patients. Osmotic gradient ektacytometry showed that splenectomy resulted in improved intracellular viscosity (hydration state) whereas total surface area and surface-to-volume ratio remained essentially unchanged. Previous studies have demonstrated the anti-hypertensive effect of chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (CIHH) in hypertensive rats. The present study investigated the anti-hypertensive effect of CIHH in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and the role of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in anti-hypertensive effect of CIHH.

We found higher values of BMI, BF, and WC, in the miners' population but observed no significant difference between populations. Transcriptomics and methylation data of AF patients were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially methylated sites between AF and normal samples were screened. Then, highly expressed and hypomethylated and lowly expressed and hypermethylated genes were identified for AF. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was presented to construct AF-related coexpression networks. 52 AF blood samples were used for whole exome sequence. The mutation was visualized by the maftools package in R. Key genes were validated in AF using independent datasets.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and correlated structural alterations in sheep erythrocytes were investigated in vitro. Blood samples from four ewes were collected at fasting from the jugular vein using vacuum collection tubes containing EDTA. For ROS assay in erythrocytes, blood was properly diluted and BPA or BPS was added to obtain final bisphenol concentrations in the range between 1 and 300 μM. 2',7'-Dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (H2DCF-DA) 3 μM was added to the samples, and fluorescence was read in four replicates using a microplate reader. To evaluate erythrocyte shape, blood smears of blood treated with the different concentrations of BPS and BPA were prepared. A significant increase in ROS production was observed when concentrations of BPS and BPA increased from 1 to 100 μM (p less then 0.05). At the higher concentrations of the two studied BPs (300 μM of BPS and 200-300 μM of BPA), a ROS decrease was observed when compared to the control group (p less then 0.01). Erythrocytes' shape alterations were observed in cells treated with BPS and BPA 200-300 μM 4 hours after the beginning of the treatment. This study confirms that BPA and BPS exhibit oxidative effects on sheep erythrocytes. This correlational study was performed on 293 chronic patients admitted to coronary care units (CCUs) in one of the hospitals in Rafsanjan. The Patient Activation Measure (PAM), Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), and Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 Items (DASS-21) were used to collect data. The data were then analyzed using SPSS 22. A significant positive correlation was observed between general QOL and PAM (P less then 0.001). In addition, a significant negative correlation was found between PAM, stress (P = 0.032), and depression (P = 0.025). The results of multivariate linear regression indicated that only physical and psychological subscales of QOL significantly predicted PAM (B = 0.24; 95% confidence interval; P value less then 0.05). Owing to the fact that some subscales of QOL have a determinant role in the PAM of chronic patients, healthcare providers are recommended to plan and implement the necessary interventions to improve the QOL and the health outcomes of chronic patients.

We had a case in which three consecutive pregnancies resulted in birth of three children with an orofacial cleft. Their mother suffered from bronchial asthma and was treated using symbicort (corticosteroid budesonide plus bronchodilator formoterol) during her pregnancies. A hypothesis was assessed these anti-asthmatics can induce an orofacial cleft in experimental model.
A single administration of one of five increasing doses (including therapeutically used ones) of Symbicort, budesonide or formoterol was injected into the amnion of a chick embryo on day 4 or 5 of incubation. The teratogenic/lethal effects of the anti-asthmatics were assessed on a total of 600 embryos.
For budesonide, the teratogenic/lethal effect started at a dose 0.003 μg per embryo, for formoterol at 0.3 μg and for Symbicort 0.03 μg. Orofacial clefts and gastroschisis after exposure were found for all three anti-asthmatics. Heart septum defects occurred after exposure to formoterol.
The present results support those clinical/epidemiological studies pointing out that anti-asthmatics have the potential to induce orofacial clefts, gastroschisis and heart malformations during prenatal development in human.

Curcumin is a natural compound of turmeric, which inhibits prostate cancer cell proliferation. This study examined whether treatment of LNCaP prostate cancer cells with the combination of curcumin and dutasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, affect proliferation and the amount of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone.
LNCaP Cells were incubated with curcumin or the combination of curcumin and dutasteride and cell proliferation was measured at 72 h. LC-MS/MS was used to determine testosterone and dihydrotestosterone concentrations in prostate cancer cells.
Curcumin combined with dutasteride suppressed proliferation and affected apoptosis of LNCaP cells. The combination of curcumin and dutasteride also reduced the amount of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in LNCaP cells. The secretion of prostate-specific antigen was inhibited by the combination treatment in a dose-dependent manner.
Treatment with the combination of curcumin and dutasteride may interfere with the intra-tumoral androgen activity.

Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a recalcitrant disease with liver and other metastasis. The present study evaluated the efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicine Brucea javanica oil (BJO) combined with anlotinib, a multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitor with anti-angiogenic activity, on a nude-mouse model of SCLC liver metastasis.
The mouse model was established by injecting NCI-H446 cells (1×10
) in Matrigel (20 μl) into the upper liver lobe. All animals were randomized and assigned to three groups Control (n=8); anlotinib alone (n=8; 3 mg/kg, qd×14+7-day interval with two cycles, oral); anlotinib plus BJO (n=8; 3 mg/kg anlotinib qd×14+7-day interval with two cycles, orally; BJO 1 g/kg, qd×6 weeks, orally). Body weight was determined every week. Six weeks after initial treatment, tumors were collected for analysis of angiogenesis using immunohistochemistry.
The combination of anlotinib and BJO significantly inhibited growth of SCLC liver metastases and angiogenesis more than anlotinib monotherapy (p=0.043). In addition, BJO alleviated body-weight loss associated with anlotinib therapy, including general mouse condition.

Thus far, comorbidity of allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis do not seem to be a major risk factor for severe COVID-19. However, we should develop strategies in clinical practice for treatment of nasal diseases during the pandemic. In this article, we reviewed current evidence of the relationship between COVID-19 and nasal conditions, such as COVID-19-related olfactory dysfunction, allergic rhinitis, and chronic rhinosinusitis.
Fluoxetine had an anti-apoptotic effect with upregulation of BDNF expression in retina of rats with STZ-induced diabetes. We had a case in which three consecutive pregnancies resulted in birth of three children with an orofacial cleft. Their mother suffered from bronchial asthma and was treated using symbicort (corticosteroid budesonide plus bronchodilator formoterol) during her pregnancies. A hypothesis was assessed these anti-asthmatics can induce an orofacial cleft in experimental model. A single administration of one of five increasing doses (including therapeutically used ones) of Symbicort, budesonide or formoterol was injected into the amnion of a chick embryo on day 4 or 5 of incubation. The teratogenic/lethal effects of the anti-asthmatics were assessed on a total of 600 embryos. For budesonide, the teratogenic/lethal effect started at a dose 0.003 μg per embryo, for formoterol at 0.3 μg and for Symbicort 0.03 μg. Orofacial clefts and gastroschisis after exposure were found for all three anti-asthmatics. Heart septum defects occurred after exposure to formoterol. The present results support those clinical/epidemiological studies pointing out that anti-asthmatics have the potential to induce orofacial clefts, gastroschisis and heart malformations during prenatal development in human. Curcumin is a natural compound of turmeric, which inhibits prostate cancer cell proliferation. This study examined whether treatment of LNCaP prostate cancer cells with the combination of curcumin and dutasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, affect proliferation and the amount of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. LNCaP Cells were incubated with curcumin or the combination of curcumin and dutasteride and cell proliferation was measured at 72 h. LC-MS/MS was used to determine testosterone and dihydrotestosterone concentrations in prostate cancer cells. Curcumin combined with dutasteride suppressed proliferation and affected apoptosis of LNCaP cells. The combination of curcumin and dutasteride also reduced the amount of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in LNCaP cells. The secretion of prostate-specific antigen was inhibited by the combination treatment in a dose-dependent manner. The present study evaluated the efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicine Brucea javanica oil (BJO) combined with anlotinib, a multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitor with anti-angiogenic activity, on a nude-mouse model of SCLC liver metastasis. The mouse model was established by injecting NCI-H446 cells (1×10 ) in Matrigel (20 μl) into the upper liver lobe. All animals were randomized and assigned to three groups Control (n=8); anlotinib alone (n=8; 3 mg/kg, qd×14+7-day interval with two cycles, oral); anlotinib plus BJO (n=8; 3 mg/kg anlotinib qd×14+7-day interval with two cycles, orally; BJO 1 g/kg, qd×6 weeks, orally). Body weight was determined every week. Six weeks after initial treatment, tumors were collected for analysis of angiogenesis using immunohistochemistry. The combination of anlotinib and BJO significantly inhibited growth of SCLC liver metastases and angiogenesis more than anlotinib monotherapy (p=0.043). Amongst, compound 9r displayed the best inhibitory activity towards HDAC6 (IC50 = 30.6 nM), with 128-fold selectivity over HDAC1. Further BLI and CETSA assay proved the high affinity of 9r to HDAC6. In addition, 9r could dose-dependently upregulate the levels of acetylated α-tubulin, without significant effect on acetylated histone H3 in MGC803 cells. Besides, 9r exhibited potent antiproliferative effect on MGC803 cells, and promoted apoptosis and suppressed the metastasis without obvious toxicity, suggesting 9r would serve as a potential lead compound for the development of novel therapeutic agents of gastric cancer.

To identify published literature regarding cancer survivorship education programs for primary care providers (PCPs) and assess their outcomes.
PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL databases were searched between January 2005 and September 2020. The Quality of Cancer Survivorship Care Framework and Kirkpatrick's 4-level evaluation model were used to summarize program content and outcomes, respectively. Data extraction and critical appraisal were conducted by two authors.
Twenty-one studies were included, describing self-directed online courses (n=4), presentations (n=2), workshops and training sessions (n=6), placement programs (n=3), a live webinar, a fellowship program, a referral program, a survivorship conference, a dual in-person workshop and webinar, and an in-person seminar and online webinar series. Eight studies described the use of a learner framework or theory to guide program development. All 21 programs were generally beneficial to PCP learners (e.g., increased confidence, knowledge, behavior change);tive impact on health outcomes among cancer survivors.
Work-related issues have become increasingly relevant for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients, since the cancer is detected at an earlier age due to screening. The aim was to evaluate work participation up to 10 years after colon or rectal cancer diagnosis compared between diagnosis and to a matched cancer-free population.
In this national register-based cohort study, all first-time CRC patients in the period 2000-2015 with no previous cancer, between 20 and 60 years, were identified in the Danish Cancer Registry. A control group with no previous cancer was matched on gender, age, education, and income. For each year a mean Work Participation Score (WPS) was calculated (a percentage of weeks working) for individuals part of the labour market.
A total of 5625 colon cancer patients and 3856 rectal cancer patients and 25,341 and 17,256 matched controls were included in the study, respectively. The WPS increased for colon cancer patients from 45.69% after 1 year to 83.94% after 4 years, while rectal cancer patients had a score of 38.07% after 1 year and 80.07% after 4 years. The WPS was lower for cancer patients compared with controls, but the difference decreased after 4 years.
CRC patients had a lowerwork participation up to 10 years after diagnosis compared with controls, while rectal cancer patients had a lower participation the first 7 years after diagnosis compared with colon cancer patients.

In this study, we quantified the endogenous melatonin levels in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The melatonin concentrations in root, stem, and leaf were 150.60, 37.92, and 40.58 ng g fresh weight- 1, respectively. The effects of exogenous melatonin (1 µM) on plant growth, photosynthesis, antioxidant enzyme activity, and ion homeostasis in upland cotton seedlings exposed to 100 mM NaCl treatment were determined. Pretreatment (prior to exposure to salt stress) of seedlings with exogenous melatonin significantly alleviated plant growth inhibition by salt stress and maintained an improved photosynthetic capacity. The present study was aimed at investigating the experiences of fetishization of transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) people. Participants in the current study represent a sample of 142 TGNB volunteers from the community who answered the prompt "If you feel comfortable, could you describe your experience of being fetishized?" Using thematic analysis, we developed three overarching themes relevant to the experiences of fetishization of TGNB participants (1) context of fetishization; (2) negative experiences of fetishization; and (3) positive or ambiguous experiences of fetishization. The results demonstrated that, in most cases, fetishization was understood by TGNB people as a negative experience of sexual objectification, although some individuals experienced fetishization as a positive experience, perceiving the sexual desire of the other person or living it as a kink. Consistent with the integrated theory of dehumanization, the results demonstrated that both sexual objectification and minority stress contributed to participants' understanding of fetishization for TGNB individuals. To identify published literature regarding cancer survivorship education programs for primary care providers (PCPs) and assess their outcomes. PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL databases were searched between January 2005 and September 2020. The Quality of Cancer Survivorship Care Framework and Kirkpatrick's 4-level evaluation model were used to summarize program content and outcomes, respectively. Data extraction and critical appraisal were conducted by two authors. Twenty-one studies were included, describing self-directed online courses (n=4), presentations (n=2), workshops and training sessions (n=6), placement programs (n=3), a live webinar, a fellowship program, a referral program, a survivorship conference, a dual in-person workshop and webinar, and an in-person seminar and online webinar series. Eight studies described the use of a learner framework or theory to guide program development. All 21 programs were generally beneficial to PCP learners (e.g., increased confidence, knowledge, behavior change);tive impact on health outcomes among cancer survivors. The aim was to evaluate work participation up to 10 years after colon or rectal cancer diagnosis compared between diagnosis and to a matched cancer-free population. In this national register-based cohort study, all first-time CRC patients in the period 2000-2015 with no previous cancer, between 20 and 60 years, were identified in the Danish Cancer Registry. A control group with no previous cancer was matched on gender, age, education, and income. For each year a mean Work Participation Score (WPS) was calculated (a percentage of weeks working) for individuals part of the labour market. A total of 5625 colon cancer patients and 3856 rectal cancer patients and 25,341 and 17,256 matched controls were included in the study, respectively. The WPS increased for colon cancer patients from 45.69% after 1 year to 83.94% after 4 years, while rectal cancer patients had a score of 38.07% after 1 year and 80.07% after 4 years. The WPS was lower for cancer patients compared with controls, but the difference decreased after 4 years. CRC patients had a lowerwork participation up to 10 years after diagnosis compared with controls, while rectal cancer patients had a lower participation the first 7 years after diagnosis compared with colon cancer patients. In this study, we quantified the endogenous melatonin levels in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The melatonin concentrations in root, stem, and leaf were 150.60, 37.92, and 40.58 ng g fresh weight- 1, respectively. The effects of exogenous melatonin (1 µM) on plant growth, photosynthesis, antioxidant enzyme activity, and ion homeostasis in upland cotton seedlings exposed to 100 mM NaCl treatment were determined. Pretreatment (prior to exposure to salt stress) of seedlings with exogenous melatonin significantly alleviated plant growth inhibition by salt stress and maintained an improved photosynthetic capacity. The present study was aimed at investigating the experiences of fetishization of transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) people. Participants in the current study represent a sample of 142 TGNB volunteers from the community who answered the prompt "If you feel comfortable, could you describe your experience of being fetishized?" Using thematic analysis, we developed three overarching themes relevant to the experiences of fetishization of TGNB participants (1) context of fetishization; (2) negative experiences of fetishization; and (3) positive or ambiguous experiences of fetishization. The results demonstrated that, in most cases, fetishization was understood by TGNB people as a negative experience of sexual objectification, although some individuals experienced fetishization as a positive experience, perceiving the sexual desire of the other person or living it as a kink. Consistent with the integrated theory of dehumanization, the results demonstrated that both sexual objectification and minority stress contributed to participants' understanding of fetishization for TGNB individuals.
