    To evaluate feasibility, safety, and results of endovenous mechanochemical ablation (****) for treatment of persistent embryonic and dysplastic veins in pediatric patients with Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome (KTS).

  • Osteosarcoma is a severe malignant tumor. Several studies indicated that lncRNA prostate cancer‑associated transcript 6 (PCAT6) promoted the development of multiple types of cancers. Studies have also revealed that MDM2 could aggravate tumor symptoms inhibiting P53 expression. However, whether lncRNA PCAT6 could affect the proliferation and metastasis of osteosarcoma cells by regulating P53 expression is unclear. The present study established lncRNA PCAT6‑overexpressing osteosarcoma cells. Cell Counting Kit‑8, wound healing and Transwell assays were performed to detect the change in proliferation, migration and invasion of these cells, respectively. Subsequently, E3 ubiquitin‑protein ligase Mdm2 (MDM2), P53 and P21 expression were determined using western blotting. Finally, MDM2 expression was inhibited and the proliferation, migration and invasion of these cells was determined again. The present study found that the proliferation, migration and invasion of osteosarcoma cells increased following overexpression of lncRNA PCAT6. MDM2 expression was upregulated while the levels of P53 and P21 decreased following overexpression of lncRNA PCAT6.     Osteosarcoma is a severe malignant tumor. Several studies indicated that lncRNA prostate cancer‑associated transcript 6 (PCAT6) promoted the development of multiple types of cancers. Studies have also revealed that MDM2 could aggravate tumor symptoms inhibiting P53 expression. However, whether lncRNA PCAT6 could affect the proliferation and metastasis of osteosarcoma cells by regulating P53 expression is unclear. The present study established lncRNA PCAT6‑overexpressing osteosarcoma cells. Cell Counting Kit‑8, wound healing and Transwell assays were performed to detect the change in proliferation, migration and invasion of these cells, respectively. Subsequently, E3 ubiquitin‑protein ligase Mdm2 (MDM2), P53 and P21 expression were determined using western blotting. Finally, MDM2 expression was inhibited and the proliferation, migration and invasion of these cells was determined again. The present study found that the proliferation, migration and invasion of osteosarcoma cells increased following overexpression of lncRNA PCAT6. MDM2 expression was upregulated while the levels of P53 and P21 decreased following overexpression of lncRNA PCAT6. However, the proliferation, migration and invasion of osteosarcoma cells were inhibited following MDM2 knockdown. Additionally, P53 and P21 was rescued following MDM2 knockdown. Here, we demonstrate that both the shorter transcript (Tet1S ) encoding an N-terminally truncated TET1 protein and a full-length Tet1 (Tet1FL ) transcript encoding canonical TET1 are co-expressed in the adult mouse brain. We show that Tet1S is the predominantly expressed isoform and is highly enriched in neurons, whereas Tet1FL is generally expressed at lower levels and more abundant in glia, suggesting their roles are at least partially cell type-spoval of DNA methyl marks, is expressed as two separate isoforms in the adult mouse brain and that each differentially regulates gene expression, synaptic transmission and memory formation.   • The CI change generally exhibited a more significant decreasing trend than did PCI in LPNS and GZP due to AO slowly increasing over time, with a spatially weak layered or radial north-south decay, and an insignificant increasing trend in QDM impacted by the enhancing WPSH, with an obvious layered or radial spatial distribution. The spatiotemporal pattern of PCI variation represented similar characteristics in attribution with CI, but an inverse spatial distribution due to the phase difference (positive and negative effects) of AO and WPSH influencing seasonal precipitation. To support the development of macrofilaricidal drugs that target the adult worm to further support the elimination of onchocerciasis, an in-depth understanding of O. volvulus biology especially the factors that support the longevity of these worms in the human host (>10 years) is required. However, research is hampered by a lack of access to adult worms. O. volvulus is an obligatory human parasite and no small animal models that can propagate this parasite were successfully developed. Here, we report MD simulations at time scales overlapping with in vitro single-molecule Förster (fluorescence) resonance energy transfer (smFRET) measurements of the amino acid binding protein LIV-BPSS at sub-millisecond resolution. Computationally efficient all-atom structure-based simulations, calibrated against explicit solvent simulations, were employed for sampling multiple cycles of LIV-BPSS clamshell-like conformational changes on the time scale of seconds, examining the relationship between these events and those observed by smFRET. The MD simulations agree with the smFRET measurements and provide valuable information on local dynamics of fluorophores at their sites of attachment on LIV-BPSS and the correlations between fluorophore motions and large-scale conformational changes between LIV-BPSS domains. We further utilize the MD simulations to inform the interpretation of smFRET data, including Förster radius (R0) and fluorophore orientation factor (κ2) determinations. Seventeen midwife surveys (response rate 17%) and 113 parent surveys (response rate 31%) were returned. Most midwives and out-of-hospital-birth parents reported satisfactory knowledge scores about NBS. Only 5% of parents (n = 6) did not participate in NBS. Most midwives reported that NBS is important and encouraged patients to consider undergoing NBS. This can prevent or reduce the negative impact of trauma and improve the health and well-being of infants, mothers, and future generations. This clinical article outlines key strategies for implementation of patient-centered trauma-informed perinatal nursing care.Midwifery and nursing are collaborative partners in both education and practice. Understanding needs and barriers to clinical services such as newborn screening is essential. This study examined knowledge and attitudes of midwives and out-of-hospital-birth parents about newborn blood spot screening (NBS). Descriptive and cross-sectional surveys were distributed to midwives and out-of-hospital-birth parents from birth center registries and the Utah Health Department of Vital Records. Seventeen midwife surveys (response rate 17%) and 113 parent surveys (response rate 31%) were returned. Most midwives and out-of-hospital-birth parents reported satisfactory knowledge scores about NBS. Only 5% of parents (n = 6) did not participate in NBS. Most midwives reported that NBS is important and encouraged patients to consider undergoing NBS. Some concerns included the lack of education for both midwives and out-of-hospital patients and the trauma and accuracy of the heel prick soon after birth. Both midwives and out-of-hospital-birth parents expressed a need for improved NBS education. Additional studies are needed to ascertain whether this trend is seen with similar populations throughout the United States, to further elucidate the factors that drive NBS nonparticipation, and to develop educational resources for midwives and their patients.The Score for Neonatal Acute Physiology (SNAP) is a physiological-based illness severity tool developed in 1993, and since that time, it has been revised to include SNAP-II Perinatal Extension (SNAPPE-II) for mortality risk assessment and SNAP-II to assess severity of illness. The purpose of this methodologically based article is to provide an overview of SNAP methodology and then to critically evaluate the feasibility and utility of SNAP-II in neonatal nursing research. The SNAP-II scoring measure is parsimonious and has been utilized in a variety of retrospective and prospective medical research with good results; yet, it is not often employed in nursing studies. For research purposes, the required data are readily obtainable from medical records, calculations can be performed via computer to reduce errors, and the resultant score is parsimonious and reproducible. SNAP-II has some limitations, however, and additional research is needed to further refine the scoring system. This methodological article outlines the strengths and limitations of SNAP-II and recommends the use of a severity score to better describe research samples for clinical benchmarking and comparative research. There is extensive interest in validating acuity scores for appropriate patient assignments. Rather than having established ratios, often established by law, nurses are interested in measuring patient acuity and appropriately assigning ratios based on patient needs.Late preterm (LPT) infants are at an increased risk for hyperbilirubinemia. Accurate identification and early treatment are needed for optimal health outcomes. In a newborn nursery at an academic medical center, bilirubin levels were drawn at 24 hours of life, per protocol. These infants were rarely treated at this time. Rather, predischarge bilirubin levels (at about 48 hours of life) would indicate treatment, often leading to increased length of hospital stay. The practice change evaluation was conducted using retrospective medical record review. Practice change to test serum bilirubin levels at 36 hours of life rather than 24 hours of life. Compliance with the practice change was achieved (P less then .05). More LPT infants were identified and treated for hyperbilirubinemia without an increase in length of stay. Readmissions for hyperbilirubinemia and blood draw rates also declined. Although more LPT infants were identified and treated for hyperbilirubinemia, there is room for improvement, and increased adherence to the policy might yield an even greater impact on quality and safety of care surrounding bilirubin management.The aim of this study was to identify comfort with touch (CT) and influencing factors among Chinese midwives. Midwives (N = 252) from 7 hospitals in Guangdong, China, were asked to complete a self-report questionnaire between November 2018 and April 2019. The questionnaire included the Nurses' Comfort with Touch Scale (NCTS), the Nurses' Perceived Professional Benefits (NPPB) Scale, the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS), and a self-designed demographic questionnaire. Multivariate linear regression was used to identify influencing factors for CT. Mean NCTS total score was 88.90 ± 14.40, and the mean item score was 5.23 ± 0.91, which indicated a respectable score. Within the NCTS, CT was highest in the comfort support category (5.32 ± 0.29) whereas CT was lowest in the physical comfort category (4.28 ± 0.28).     Substantial evidence supports a bidirectional relationship between diabetes and clinical depression. However, little is known about the effect of treating one condition on the control of the other. Thus, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression among Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and to assess the efficacy and feasibility of escitalopram treatment of depression on their metabolic control parameters.

    T2DM patients attending primary care clinics in the North of Jordan were enrolled in a cross-sectional study during the period from February to December 2019 (n=157). Depressive symptoms were screened utilising the patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) tool. Metabolic control was assessed by measurement of glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), triglycerides, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Patients with moderate to severe depressive symptoms by PHQ-9 (n=58) were interviewed by a psychiatrist to confirm a clinical diagnosis of depression. Elinship between depression and T2DM in the context of metabolic syndrome is plausible. However, our results show that escitalopram treatment may not be associated with significant improvement in metabolic control parameters among these patients. Our study has laid the groundwork for future randomised clinical trials with larger sample size and longer follow-up.Traumatic events may lead to post-traumatic growth (PTG). The findings showed that world assumptions were positive and were positively associated with meaning in life and PTG and negatively associated with PTSS. The results of the multiple mediation model suggest that meaning in life and PTSS partially mediated the relations between world assumptions and PTG. Positive world assumptions were associated with higher meaning in life, which was associated with higher PTG. In contrast, despite the direct association between PTSS and PTG, the mediating effect of PTSS was negative, thus the more positive the world assumptions, the higher the PTG mediated by lower PTSS. The results suggest that the relationship between world assumptions and PTG may be direct and indirect. We studied 176 Child A cirrhotic HCV patients who achieved SVR after DAAs treatment and had a history of endoscopic oesophageal varices obliteration and were on maximum tolerated propranolol dose. They were subjected to follow-up upper gastrointestinal endoscopy repeated every 6 months for 4 years. Fifty-two patients (29.5%) had recurrence of oesophageal varices observed during the 4-years follow-up upper *** endoscopy. On multivariate analysis, platelet count was the only significant variable, P-value = .007*. HbA1C, HOMA IR, BMI 1 and BMI 2 showed non-significant differences between the studied groups. By ROC analysis, we identified baseline platelet count of 96 000/µL with 100% sensitivity (95% confidence interval [CI] [91%-100%]) and 74% specificity (95% CI [65%-81%]).   • The microbial electrosynthesis is a platform to supply protons and electrons to improve the conversion efficiency and production rate for the valorization of C1 gas. This study examined proton migration and electron transfer of the electrode and microbe by using various external parameters in the electrosynthesis of CO. The CO electrosynthesis achieved almost double of coulombic efficiency than the conventional CO2 electrosynthesis. The maximum volumetric acetate production rate was 0.71 g/L/day in the BES, which was 2-6 times higher than reported elsewhere. These results show that the efficient proton migration and electron transfer can enhance the productivity and conversion efficiency of the biological CO conversion in a bioelectrochemical system.

However, these applications require strong and discriminant neural patterns for which extensive experience in MI may be necessary. Inspired by the field of rehabilitation where embodiment is a key element for improving cortical activity, our study proposes a novel control scheme in which virtually embodiable feedback is provided during control to enhance performance.

    Subjects underwent two immersive virtual reality control scenarios in which they controlled the two-dimensional movement of a device using electroencephalography (EEG). The two scenarios only differ on whether embodiable feedback, which mirrors the movement of the classified intention, is provided. After undergoing each scenario, subjects also answered a questionnaire in which they rated how immersive the scenario and embodiable the feedback were.

Further, miRNA-mRNA-lncRNA triad classification was performed using social network analysis from subnetworks and visualized using Cytoscape. Survival analysis of the RNA hubs, oncoprint analysis for mRNAs and pathway analysis of the lncRNAs were also performed. Results indicated that two lncRNAs (NEAT1 and CASC7) and four miRNAs (hsa-miR-106b-5p, hsa-miR-148a-3p, hsa-miR-25-3p and hsa-let-7i-5p) were common between hubs identified in TNBC and TNBC associated metastasis. The exclusive hubs for TNBC associated metastasis were hsa-miR-200b-3p, SP1, HSPA4 and RAB1B. HMGA1 was the top ranked hub in mesenchymal subtype associated lung metastasis, while hsa-miR-27a-3p was identified as the top ranked hub mRNA in luminal androgen receptor subtype associated bone metastasis. The envelope (E) protein encoded by coronaviruses is a viroporin with ion channel activity and has been shown to be crucial for the assembly and pathophysiology of coronaviruses. We used a combination of virtual database screening, molecular docking, all-atom molecular dynamics simulation and MM-PBSA analysis to test four FDA approved drugs - Tretinoin, Mefenamic Acid, Ondansetron and Artemether - as potential inhibitors of ion channels formed by SARS-CoV-2 E protein. Interaction and binding energy analysis showed that electrostatic interactions and polar solvation energy were the major driving forces for binding of the drugs, with Tretinoin being the most promising inhibitor. Tretinoin bound within the lumen of the channel formed by E protein, which is lined by hydrophobic residues like Phe, Val and Ala, indicating its potential for blocking the channel and inhibiting the viroporin functionality of E. In control simulations, tretinoin demonstrated a lower binding energy with a known target as compared to SARS-CoV-2 E protein. This work thus highlights the possibility of exploring Tretinoin as a potential SARS-CoV-2 E protein ion channel blocker and virus assembly inhibitor, which could be an important therapeutic strategy in the treatment for coronaviruses.Spectrophotometry is an indirect non-invasive and quantitative method for specifying materials with unknown contents based on absorption behavior. This paper presents the first application of artificial neural network in spectrophotometry for quantification of human sperm concentration. A well-trained full spectrum neural network (FSNN) model is developed by examining the absorption response of sperm samples from 41 human subjects to different light spectra (wavelength from 390 to 1100 nm). It is shown that this FSNN accurately estimates sperm concentration based on the full absorption spectrum with over 93% prediction accuracy, and provides 100% agreement with clinical assessments in differentiating the samples of healthy donor from patient samples. We suggest the machine learning-based spectrophotometry approach with the trained FSNN model as a rapid, low-cost, and powerful technique to quantify sperm concentration. The performance of this technique is superior to available spectrophotometry methods currently used for semen analysis and will provide novel research and clinical opportunities for tackling male infertility.

The envelope (E) protein encoded by coronaviruses is a viroporin with ion channel activity and has been shown to be crucial for the assembly and pathophysiology of coronaviruses. We used a combination of virtual database screening, molecular docking, all-atom molecular dynamics simulation and MM-PBSA analysis to test four FDA approved drugs - Tretinoin, Mefenamic Acid, Ondansetron and Artemether - as potential inhibitors of ion channels formed by SARS-CoV-2 E protein. Interaction and binding energy analysis showed that electrostatic interactions and polar solvation energy were the major driving forces for binding of the drugs, with Tretinoin being the most promising inhibitor. Tretinoin bound within the lumen of the channel formed by E protein, which is lined by hydrophobic residues like Phe, Val and Ala, indicating its potential for blocking the channel and inhibiting the viroporin functionality of E. In control simulations, tretinoin demonstrated a lower binding energy with a known target as compared to SARS-CoV-2 E protein. This work thus highlights the possibility of exploring Tretinoin as a potential SARS-CoV-2 E protein ion channel blocker and virus assembly inhibitor, which could be an important therapeutic strategy in the treatment for coronaviruses.Spectrophotometry is an indirect non-invasive and quantitative method for specifying materials with unknown contents based on absorption behavior. This paper presents the first application of artificial neural network in spectrophotometry for quantification of human sperm concentration. A well-trained full spectrum neural network (FSNN) model is developed by examining the absorption response of sperm samples from 41 human subjects to different light spectra (wavelength from 390 to 1100 nm). It is shown that this FSNN accurately estimates sperm concentration based on the full absorption spectrum with over 93% prediction accuracy, and provides 100% agreement with clinical assessments in differentiating the samples of healthy donor from patient samples. We suggest the machine learning-based spectrophotometry approach with the trained FSNN model as a rapid, low-cost, and powerful technique to quantify sperm concentration. The performance of this technique is superior to available spectrophotometry methods currently used for semen analysis and will provide novel research and clinical opportunities for tackling male infertility.

In particular, emphasis is placed on how HIV testing programs, which are supported by systematic peer outreach, are being disrupted at a time when global policymakers call for expanded HIV testing and treatment targets among key populations. While COVID 19 measures have greatly undermined local efforts to deliver health services to members and strengthen existing HIV testing programs, each of the three CBOs has taken innovative steps to adapt to the restrictions and to the COVID-19 pandemic itself. Although HIV testing in clinical spaces among those who were once regular and occasional program attendees dropped off noticeably in the early months of the COVID-19 lockdown, the program eventually began to rebound as outreach approaches shifted to virtual platforms and strategies. Up to 80% of NMOSD patients have a circulating pathogenic autoantibody that targets the water channel aquaporin-4 (AQP4-IgG). The discovery of AQP4-IgG transformed our understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease and its possible treatment targets. Monoclonal antibodies targeting terminal complement (eculizumab), CD19 (inebilizumab), and the interleukin-6 receptor (satralizumab) have demonstrated efficacy in NMOSD attack prevention in recent phase 3 trials and have gained subsequent regulatory approval in the USA and other countries.   • Cervical spinal cord injury (cSCI) can cause paralysis and impair hand function. Existing assessments in clinical settings do not reflect an individual's performance in their daily environment. Videos from wearable cameras (egocentric video) provide a novel avenue to analyze hand function in non-clinical settings. Due to the large amounts of video data generated by this approach, automated analysis methods are necessary. We propose to employ an unsupervised learning process to produce a summary of the grasping strategies used in an egocentric video. To this end, an approach was developed consisting of hand detection, pose estimation, and clustering algorithms. The performance of the method was examined with external evaluation indicators and internal evaluation indicators for an uninjured and injured participant, respectively. The results demonstrated that a Gaussian mixture model obtained the highest accuracy in terms of the maximum match, 0.63, and the **** index, 0.26, for the uninjured participant, and a silhouette score of 0.13 for the injured participant.Preterm newborns are prone to late-onset sepsis, leading to a high risk of mortality. Video-based analysis of motion is a promising non-invasive approach because the behavior of the newborn is related to his physiological state. But it is needed to analyze only images where the newborn is solely present in incubator. In this context, we propose a method for video-based detection of newborn presence. We use deep transfer learning bottleneck features are extracted from a pre-trained deep neural network and then a classifier is trained with these features on our database. Moreover, we propose a strategy that allows to take advantage of temporal consistency. On a database of 11 newborns with 56 days of video recordings, the results show a balanced accuracy of 80%.Block matching techniques have been studied exhaustively for motion estimation in Ultrasound (US) images. Exhaustive Search (ES) is the most commonly used search algorithm for block matching in US images. However, ES can be computationally expensive and slow. In this paper, a faster search algorithm called the Adaptive Rood Pattern Search (ARPS) is adopted to US images along with subpixel matching to reduce the computational cost and enhance block matching. Both ES and ARPS were applied in the context of block matching based 2D speckle tracking and were compared using Number of Computations per Frame (NCF), Computational Time per Frame (CTF) and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) as metrics. Our simulations and experimental results proved that ARPS outperformed ES by a substantial margin. Kriging interpolation, however, is a stochastic approach that uses statistical data to calculate interpolated data points as opposed to the purely mathematical methods of more traditional interpolators. This analysis tests the efficacy of one variety of Kriging interpolation, called Simple Kriging, on ultrasound data. Simple Kriging is tested on its accuracy to interpolate a sparse ultrasound image frame, as well as its usefulness in interpolating the correlation map to estimate subsample displacement. The applied bias of the estimation using Simple Kriging is also tested by interpolating the autocorrelation map where displacement is zero. Simple Kriging is an alternative interpolation scheme that could be used with image data and its accuracy is comparable to the accuracy of using the cubic interpolation.The Uterine Junctional Zone (JZ) is identified as an important anatomical region in the implantation process during assisted reproduction. The state-of-the-art method to assess the JZ is largely manual, which is time consuming, depends on operator experience, and often introduces subjective bias in assessment. In this paper, we present methods for automated visualization and quantification of the JZ in three-dimensional transvaginal ultrasound imaging (3D-TVUS). JZ is best visualized in the midcoronal plane of the 3D-TVUS uterus acquisition. We propose an algorithm pipeline, which uses a deep learning model to generate a point cloud representing the surface of the endometrium. A regularized midcoronal surface passing through the point cloud is rendered to obtain the midcoronal plane. The automated solution is designed to accommodate multiple structural deformations and pathologies in the uterus. An expert assisted reproduction clinician on 136 3D-TVUS volumes evaluated the results, and reliable performance was observed in more than 89% cases where the automated solution is able to reproduce, and sometimes even outperform the manual workflow. Automation speeds up the clinical workflow approximately by a factor of ten and reduces operator bias.Cardiovascular diseases are the biggest threat to human being's health all over the world, and carotid atherosclerotic plaque is the leading cause of ischemic cardiovascular diseases. To determine the location and shape of the plaque, it is of great significance to detect the intima-media (IM). In this paper, a new IM detection method based on convolution neural network (IMD-CNN) is proposed for the detection of IM of blood vessels in longitudinal ultrasonic images. In IMD-CNN, firstly the region of interest (ROI) is automatically extracted by morphological processing, then the patch-wise training data are constructed, and finally a simple CNN is trained to detect the IM. The experimental results obtained on 23 images show that the test accuracy of IMD-CNN is over 86% and the performance of IMD-CNN is also visually proved to be effective.
    Cervical spinal cord injury (cSCI) can cause paralysis and impair hand function. Existing assessments in clinical settings do not reflect an individual's performance in their daily environment. Videos from wearable cameras (egocentric video) provide a novel avenue to analyze hand function in non-clinical settings. Due to the large amounts of video data generated by this approach, automated analysis methods are necessary. We propose to employ an unsupervised learning process to produce a summary of the grasping strategies used in an egocentric video. To this end, an approach was developed consisting of hand detection, pose estimation, and clustering algorithms. The performance of the method was examined with external evaluation indicators and internal evaluation indicators for an uninjured and injured participant, respectively. The results demonstrated that a Gaussian mixture model obtained the highest accuracy in terms of the maximum match, 0.63, and the Rand index, 0.26, for the uninjured participant, and a silhouette score of 0.13 for the injured participant.Preterm newborns are prone to late-onset sepsis, leading to a high risk of mortality. Video-based analysis of motion is a promising non-invasive approach because the behavior of the newborn is related to his physiological state. But it is needed to analyze only images where the newborn is solely present in incubator. In this context, we propose a method for video-based detection of newborn presence. We use deep transfer learning bottleneck features are extracted from a pre-trained deep neural network and then a classifier is trained with these features on our database. Moreover, we propose a strategy that allows to take advantage of temporal consistency. On a database of 11 newborns with 56 days of video recordings, the results show a balanced accuracy of 80%.Block matching techniques have been studied exhaustively for motion estimation in Ultrasound (US) images. Exhaustive Search (ES) is the most commonly used search algorithm for block matching in US images. However, ES can be computationally expensive and slow. In this paper, a faster search algorithm called the Adaptive Rood Pattern Search (ARPS) is adopted to US images along with subpixel matching to reduce the computational cost and enhance block matching. Both ES and ARPS were applied in the context of block matching based 2D speckle tracking and were compared using Number of Computations per Frame (NCF), Computational Time per Frame (CTF) and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) as metrics. Our simulations and experimental results proved that ARPS outperformed ES by a substantial margin.
