There was one task exception, the 2-**** task, which showed no sex differences. Due to methodological variability and the involvement of multiple neural networks, a simple overarching statement with regard to gender differences during executive control cannot be provided. As such, we discuss limitations within the current literature and methodological considerations that should be employed in future research. In our centre, predonation counselling of obese donors concentrates on lifestyle modifications, particularly weight loss and exercise. Whether these recommendations have a sustainable effect after donation remains unknown. We conducted a retrospective analysis of all donors who proceeded to donation between 2012 and 2016. Donors' body mass index (BMI) was compared between predefined time points using matched pair analysis. Among 303 donors included, 15% were obese at initial assessment. Obese donors were observed to lose weight by the time of donation (mean BMI difference 1.32 kg/m2 , P less then 0.001), but bounced **** to their initial weight at one-year postdonation (mean BMI difference + 1.47 kg/m2 , P less then 0.001), which was maintained at two-year postdonation. While 71% of obese donors lost weight by the time of donation, 56% of them gained that weight **** at one year. Our findings underline the success of predonation counselling on lifestyle modification in highly motivated obese donors, although additional strategies are required to sustain weight loss. The impact of weight gain on long-term risk needs further evaluation. Living donor programmes should provide continued support with lifestyle modifications after donation.
Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein-antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is an inflammatory autoimmune condition of the central nervous system. However, data on pain and depression have remained scarce. The aim of this study was to assess features of chronic pain and depression as well as their impact on health-related quality of life (hr-QoL) in MOGAD.
Patients with MOGAD were identified in the Neuromyelitis Optica Study Group registry. Data were acquired by a questionnaire, including clinical, demographic, pain (PainDetect, Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form, McGill Pain Questionnaire-Short Form), depression (**** Depression Inventory-II), and hr-QoL (Short Form-36 Health Survey) items.
Twenty-two of 43 patients suffered from MOGAD-related pain (11 nociceptive, eight definite neuropathic, three possible neuropathic) and 18 from depression. Patients with neuropathic pain had the highest pain intensity and most profound activities of daily living (ADL) impairment. Fifteen patients reported spasticity-associated pain, including four with short-lasting painful tonic spasms. Later disease onset, profound physical impairment, and depression were associated with chronic pain. Physical QoL was more affected in pain sufferers (p<0.001) than in pain-free patients, being most severely reduced by neuropathic pain (p=0.016). Pain severity, visual impairment, and gait impairment independently predicted lower physical QoL. Depression was the only factor reducing mental QoL. Twelve patients still suffering from moderate pain (pain severity 4.6±2.3) received pain medication. Only four out of 10 patients with moderate to severe depression took antidepressants.

Previously, our reports identified ceramide as an anti-metastatic lipid. In the present study, we investigated the biochemical alterations in ceramide-centered metabolism of sphingolipids that were associated with metastatic potential. We established metastasis-prone sublines of SKOV3 ovarian cancer cells using an in vivo selection method. These cells showed decreases in ceramide levels and ceramide synthase (CerS) 2 expression. Moreover, CerS2 downregulation in ovarian cancer cells promoted metastasis in vivo and potentiated cell motility and invasiveness. Moreover, CerS2 knock-in suppressed the formation of lamellipodia required for cell motility in this cell line. In order to define specific roles of ceramide species in cell motility controlled by CerS2, the effect of exogenous long- and very long-chain ceramide species on the formation of lamellipodia was evaluated.

In the future, as well as using the PDFitc applications for data analysis, it is hoped that the community will contribute their own codes and software to the platform.Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) a thrombolytic agent is commonly used for digesting the blood clot. tPA half-life is low (4-6 min) and its administration needs a prolonged continuous infusion. Improving tPA half-life could reduce enzyme dosage and enhance patient compliance. Nano-carries could be used as delivery systems for the protection of enzymes physically, enhancing half-life and increasing the stability of them. In this study, chitosan (CS) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were used for the preparation of CS-g-PEG/tPA nanoparticles (NPs) via the ion gelation method. Particles' size and loading capacity were optimised by central composite design. Then, NPs cytotoxicity, release profile, enzyme activity and in vivo half-life and coagulation time were investigated. The results showed that NPs does not have significant cytotoxicity. Release study revealed that a burst effect happened in the first 5 min and resulted in releasing 30% of tPA. Loading tPA in NPs could decrease 25% of its activity but the half-life of it increases in comparison to free tPA in vivo. Also, blood coagulation time has significantly affected (p-value = 0.041) by encapsulated tPA in comparison to free tPA. So, CS-g-PEG/tPA could increase enzyme half-life during the time and could be used as a non-toxic candidate delivery system for tPA.Green synthesis of organic Pt-nanocomposite was accomplished using carboplatin as a precursor and novel biopolymer - gum kondagogu (GK) as a reducing agent. The synthesised GK stabilised organic Pt-nanocomposite (GKCPt NC) was characterised by different analytical techniques such as ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, nanoparticle analyser, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrophotometer. The XRD pattern established the amorphous nature of GKCPt NC. TEM analysis revealed the homogeneous, monodisperse and spherical nature, with Pt metal size of 3.08 ± 0.62 nm. The binding energy at 71.2 and 74.6 eV show the presence of metallic platinum, Pt(0) confirmed by XPS studies. Further, in vitro radical scavenging and antitumour activity of GKCPt NC have been investigated. In comparison to GK and carboplatin, GKCPt NC showed superior 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyle activity of 87.82%, whereas 2, 2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthinzoline-6-sulphonic acid) activity was 38.50%, respectively. In vitro studies of the antitumour property of GK, GKCPt NC and carboplatin were evaluated by potato disc tumour bioassay model. The efficacy of synthesised GKCPt NC concentration (IC50) on tumour inhibition was found to be 2.04-fold lower as compared to carboplatin. Overall, the synthesised GKCPt NC shows both antitumour and antioxidant properties when compared to the original drug - carboplatin and might have promising applications in cancer therapy.Effective and targeted delivery of the antitumour drugs towards the specific cancer spot is the major motive of drug delivery. Herein, the authors reported the preparation of multifunctional polyethyleneglycol-diamine functionalised mesoporous superparamagnetic iron oxide NPs (SPION) prepared by a facile solvothermal method for biomedical applications. To endow targeting ability towards tumour site, folic acid (FA) is attached to the amine groups which are present on the NPs surface by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride/N-hydroxysuccinimide chemistry. FA attached SPION shows good colloidal stability and possesses high drug-loading efficiency of ∼ 96% owing to its mesoporous nature and the electrostatic attachment of daunosamine (NH3+) group of doxorubicin (DOX) towards the negative surface charge of carboxyl and hydroxyl group. The NPs possess superior magnetic properties in result endowed with high hyperthermic ability under alternating magnetic field reaching the hyperthermic temperature of 43°C within 223 s at NP's concentration of 1 mg/ml. The authors have chosen biological approach to explain the process of synthesis of metal NP using inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectroscopy that directly analyses the concentration of metal NPs. Alpha-amylase solution, when incubated with silver nitrate solution, turned brown at a specific concentration of enzyme and substrate, which shows the formation of silver NPs. Inductively coupled plasma data and dynamic light scattering spectra were studied to understand the kinetics and the kinetics model was obtained.

Assim, compara dois momentos históricos distintos entre 1979 e 1981 (pré-epidemia) e 2015 a 2017 (pós-epidemia). No primeiro período, a fonte incorporou 120 classificados recolhidos do jornal Lampião da Esquina e no segundo período, foram analisadas as preferências e os critérios acionados na busca por parceiros realizada com o uso de aplicativos geolocalizados, a partir de 120 perfis on-line. Os dados permitem afirmar que, já na virada da década de 1970 para a de 1980, existia a busca pelo “discreto” enquanto o pânico sexual criado em meio ao período mais mortal da epidemia de AIDS impulsionou o uso de Internet por homossexuais em busca de parceiros com menor probabilidade de estarem contaminados com o HIV, o “fora do meio (gay)”. Assim, compara dois momentos históricos distintos entre 1979 e 1981 (pré-epidemia) e 2015 a 2017 (pós-epidemia). No primeiro período, a fonte incorporou 120 classificados recolhidos do jornal Lampião da Esquina e no segundo período, foram analisadas as preferências e os critérios acionados na busca por parceiros realizada com o uso de aplicativos geolocalizados, a partir de 120 perfis on-line. Os dados permitem afirmar que, já na virada da década de 1970 para a de 1980, existia a busca pelo “discreto” enquanto o pânico sexual criado em meio ao período mais mortal da epidemia de AIDS impulsionou o uso de Internet por homossexuais em busca de parceiros com menor probabilidade de estarem contaminados com o HIV, o “fora do meio (gay)”. Bioactive molecules might contribute to the immune-enhancing effects of whey protein concentrate.In this report, layer by layer (LBL) fire retardant coatings were produced on wood ply and Polypropylene Homopolymer/Flax fiber composites. FE-SEM and EDAX analysis was carried out to analyze the surface morphology, thickness, growth rate and elemental composition of the samples. Coatings with a high degree of uniformity were formed on Polypropylene composite (PP/flax), while coatings with highest thickness were obtained on wood ply (wood). FTIR and Raman spectroscopy were further used for the molecular identifications of the coatings, which confirmed the maximum deposition of the solution components on the wood substrate. A physiochemical analysis and model was proposed to explain the forces of adhesion between the substrate and solution molecules. Fire protection and thermal properties were studied using TGA and UL-94 tests. It was explored, that the degradation of the coated substrates was highly protected by the coatings as follows wood > PP/flax > PP. From the UL-94 test, it was further discovered that more than 83% of the coated wood substrate was protected from burning, compared to the 0% of the uncoated substrate. There were four categories of standards that were the most significantly lacking across the country-(a) proceimely feedback to the surgeons. In this study, a protocol of consensus is discussed in CIoT with dual abnormality mode that combines dormant abnormality and malicious abnormality. The protocol proposed in this research not only allows all normal components in CIoT to reach a consensus with the minimum times of data exchange, but also allows the maximum number of dormant and malicious abnormal components in CIoT. However, in urban areas, the degradation of the GNSS signal environment poses a challenge. Multipath noise caused by surrounding tall buildings degrades the positioning accuracy. This leads to large errors in the fix solution, which is used as a measure of reliability. We propose a novel position reliability estimation method by considering two factors; one is that GNSS errors are more likely to occur in the height than in the plane direction; the other is that the height variation of the actual vehicle travel path is small compared to the amount of movement in the horizontal directions.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains a highly aggressive disease, with a 5-year relative survival rate of 10%. Numerous barriers to treatment exist, such as dense desmoplasia, infiltration of immune suppressor cells, inhibitory cytokines, low effector T-cell infiltration, and low tumor mutational burden. These factors help form a highly suppressive tumor microenvironment unique to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. This review outlines barriers to treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma by discussing the unique characteristics of the pancreatic tumor microenvironment and the factors that contribute to making pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma such a challenging disease to treat.Patients with glioblastoma have poor overall survival and experience significant burden from neurologic decline and adverse treatment effects. Despite the well-known benefits of early palliative care integration with oncology care, utilization of palliative care is low. The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) project is to investigate the feasibility, value, and effectiveness of using an adapted palliative care screening tool to improve outpatient palliative care screening and referral of glioblastoma patients. This QI project was conducted over a 10-week period. A glioma palliative care screening tool was developed and integrated into outpatient visits. Providers were required to use the screening tool during each patient visit. Patients 18 years or older who were diagnosed with a World Health Organization grade IV glioma and returning to the neuro-oncology clinic for a brain MRI evaluation were targeted. Screening, palliative care discussion, and referral rates were evaluated. Among 530 eligible patients who returned to the clinic over a 10-week period, the tool was available for 433 patients. Fifty-six percent (n = 294/530) of the patients were screened. Nine percent (n = 27) of screened patients were identified as candidates for a palliative care referral (score ≥ 5 on the screening tool). Of these 27 patients, the proportion of patients who had a palliative care discussion was 63% (n = 17). Overall, 71% (n = 12) of patients who had a palliative care discussion were referred to a palliative care provider. Integrating a glioma palliative care screening tool with outpatient visits can draw attention to palliative care needs and lead to a referral to palliative care.
Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is frequently used to manage caloric needs during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Previous studies in transplant patients who received TPN have reported widely discordant results with regard to infection and mortality, and risk factors for TPN-related infection remain unclear.
We conducted a retrospective study of all HSCT recipients treated with TPN between 2005 to 2014 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to determine the incidence and epidemiology of infections. Electronic records were used to identify patients treated with TPN for at least 2 days who developed infection.
Among 198 patients treated with TPN, 30% developed documented infection. Total parenteral nutrition treatment duration (13 vs. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/urmc-099.html 7 days;

To overcome the mentioned problems, a novel method has been developed for the CSIA-Cl of eight organochlorine pesticides using gas chromatography-negative chemical ionization mass spectrometry (GC-NCI-qMS) in this study. A serological indoor allergy panel (IgE) was obtained for seven dogs at day 0 and repeated 12 months later in five dogs to assess potential cross-reactivity between S. scabiei and environmental allergens. Lotilaner was administered to each dog according to the manufacturer's instructions and was repeated after one and two months without any concurrent therapeutic measure or modification of the husbandry conditions. Pruritus ceased after two weeks. The cutaneous score was reduced by 47%, and skin scrapings were negative for all but three animals.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains a highly aggressive disease, with a 5-year relative survival rate of 10%. Numerous barriers to treatment exist, such as dense desmoplasia, infiltration of immune suppressor cells, inhibitory cytokines, low effector T-cell infiltration, and low tumor mutational burden. These factors help form a highly suppressive tumor microenvironment unique to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. This review outlines barriers to treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma by discussing the unique characteristics of the pancreatic tumor microenvironment and the factors that contribute to making pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma such a challenging disease to treat.Patients with glioblastoma have poor overall survival and experience significant burden from neurologic decline and adverse treatment effects. Despite the well-known benefits of early palliative care integration with oncology care, utilization of palliative care is low. The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) project is to investigate the feasibility, value, and effectiveness of using an adapted palliative care screening tool to improve outpatient palliative care screening and referral of glioblastoma patients. This QI project was conducted over a 10-week period. A glioma palliative care screening tool was developed and integrated into outpatient visits. Providers were required to use the screening tool during each patient visit. Patients 18 years or older who were diagnosed with a World Health Organization grade IV glioma and returning to the neuro-oncology clinic for a brain MRI evaluation were targeted. Screening, palliative care discussion, and referral rates were evaluated. Among 530 eligible patients who returned to the clinic over a 10-week period, the tool was available for 433 patients. Fifty-six percent (n = 294/530) of the patients were screened. Nine percent (n = 27) of screened patients were identified as candidates for a palliative care referral (score ≥ 5 on the screening tool). Of these 27 patients, the proportion of patients who had a palliative care discussion was 63% (n = 17). Overall, 71% (n = 12) of patients who had a palliative care discussion were referred to a palliative care provider. Integrating a glioma palliative care screening tool with outpatient visits can draw attention to palliative care needs and lead to a referral to palliative care. Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is frequently used to manage caloric needs during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Previous studies in transplant patients who received TPN have reported widely discordant results with regard to infection and mortality, and risk factors for TPN-related infection remain unclear. We conducted a retrospective study of all HSCT recipients treated with TPN between 2005 to 2014 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to determine the incidence and epidemiology of infections. Electronic records were used to identify patients treated with TPN for at least 2 days who developed infection. Among 198 patients treated with TPN, 30% developed documented infection. Abstract Despite significant gains in survival rates for pediatric patients and adolescents/young adults (AYA) with chronic illness, patients in this vulnerable age group are also at an increased risk for developing one or more adverse effects related to their disease, treatment, or maladaptive health behaviors. Maladaptive health behaviors ultimately increase the risk for developing adverse effects, including increased rates of morbidity and mortality, impaired physical functioning, increased fatigue, obesity, increased psychological distress, and poor quality of life. With close attention including participation in preventive and therapeutic health promotion interventions, problematic health behaviors can be mitigated and ultimately prevented over time. It is well known that improved psychological functioning and adaptive coping can result in improved health status. The present paper provides four case examples illustrating various psychological interventions in pediatric chronic illness. As evidenced in the four case examples, pediatric psychologists provide comprehensive interventions for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions through the use of health promotion interventions, adherence and self-management promotion, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral therapy, medical coping, parent training, and motivational interviewing. Our case series demonstrates that for the most impactful behavior change to occur, a combination of interventions is often the most effective.In plants, the first asymmetrical division of a zygote leads to the formation of two cells with different developmental fates. Thus, local auxin maxima and minima which are provided by polar auxin transport underlie cell fate specification. Diverse auxin concentrations in various regions of an embryo would easily explain distinct cell identities, however the question about the mechanism of cellular patterning in cells exposed to similar auxin concentrations still remains open. Thus, specification of cell fate might result not only from the cell position within an embryo but also from events occurring before and during mitosis. This review presents the impact of auxin on the orientation of the cell division plane and discusses the mechanism of auxin-dependent cytoskeleton alignment. Furthermore, close attention is paid to auxin-induced calcium fluxes, which regulate the activity of MAPKs during postembryonic development and which possibly might also underlie cellular patterning during embryogenesis.Three types of graphene oxide/silver nanoparticles (GO/AgNPs) composite membranes were prepared to investigate size-effect of AgNPs on nanofiltration ability. The size of AgNPs was 8, 20, and 33 nm, which was characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The morphology and structure of GO and GO/AgNPs composite membranes were characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The filtration performance of membranes were evaluated on a dead-end filtration device. When the size of AgNPs is 20 nm, the GO/AgNPs composite membrane has the highest water flux (106.1 L m-2 h-1 bar-1) and rejection of Rhodamine B (RhB) (97.73%) among three types of composite membranes. The effect of feed concentration of dye solution and the flux of common solvent was also investigated. The results of the one-way ANOVAs that were computed revealed statistically significant differences among cohorts, albeit of no practical importance, in PA, ST and FA. According to the regressions calculated, neither BMI nor the educational level was related to membership in ST and PA guidelines groups. ST was a significant predictor of children's PA in all week periods (school-time, leisure-time, weekend), whereas FA was not such a strong predictor. Exposure to hypoxia increased miR-24-3p in ECs but not in pericytes. Transfection with a miR-24-3p precursor (pre-miR-24-3p) increased miR-24-3p expression in ECs, reducing the cell survival, proliferation, and angiogenic capacity.

Our findings suggest that OHS impacts are sector-specific, influenced by social and economic factors, and can be mitigated through workplace controls designed and implemented by a trained OHS workforce. The findings from this work should inform future educational and training programming and additional research and translation activities in the region, while our approach can inform other regions as they develop regionally specific OHS climate change training and programming.Exercise programs are considered an effective (add-on) treatment option for depressive disorders. However, little is known about the acute effects of exercise on affective responses in in-patient settings. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to compare the effects of a single 30-min bout of walking on affective responses to a passive control condition in patients with major depressive disorder during treatment in a mental health center. In total, 23 in-patients were exposed to two conditions (duration 30 min) using a within-subject design an exercise (light-moderate walking outdoors) and a passive control condition (sitting and reading). Affective responses were assessed based on the Circumplex Model in four phases pre, during, post, and two hours following the conditions. The main results include a significantly larger pre-post increase in energetic arousal in the exercise condition compared to the control condition, p = 0.012, ηp² = 0.25, but no significantly different pre-follow-up change between conditions, p = 0.093, ηp² = 0.12. Negatively valenced affective responses showed significantly stronger pre-post decreases after the exercise condition compared to the passive control condition, p 0.18. Positively valenced affective response activity showed a pre-post increase in the exercise condition and a pre-post decrease in the passive control condition, p = 0.017, ηp² = 0.23. The higher-activated, positively valenced immediate response of light- to moderate-intensity walking may serve as an acute emotion regulation in patients with major depressive disorder and provide a favorable state for adherence to exercise programs.In this work, the series of Tb3+/Eu3+ co-doped xerogels and derivative glass-ceramics containing CaF2 nanocrystals were prepared and characterized. The in situ formation of fluoride crystals was verified by an X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The studies of the Tb3+/Eu3+ energy transfer (ET) process were performed based on excitation and emission spectra along with luminescence decay analysis. According to emission spectra recorded under near-ultraviolet (NUV) excitation (351 nm, 7F6 → 5L9 transition of Tb3+), the mutual coexistence of the 5D4 → 7FJ (J = 6-3) (Tb3+) and the 5D0 → 7FJ (J = 0-4) (Eu3+) luminescence bands was clearly observed. The co-doping also resulted in gradual shortening of a lifetime from the 5D4 state of Tb3+ ions, and the ET efficiencies were varied from ηET = 11.9% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 10.5) to ηET = 22.9% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 12) for xerogels, and from ηET = 25.7% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 10.5) up to ηET = 67.4% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 12) for glass-ceramics. Performed decay analysis from the 5D0 (Eu3+) and the 5D4 (Tb3+) state revealed a correlation with the change in Tb3+-Eu3+ and Eu3+-Eu3+ interionic distances resulting from both the variable Tb3+Eu3+ molar ratio and their partial segregation in CaF2 nanophase.Work-related musculoskeletal injuries are one of the major occupational health issues of the workers, especially low **** pain (LBP). The aim of this study was to survey the prevalence of LBP among manufacturing workers and to identify associations of individual and work-related factors with LBP. A cross-sectional questionnaire study was performed with 1173 participating manufacturing workers. The questionnaire included individual factors, psychosocial and physical exposures, and musculoskeletal discomfort. It was analyzed by logistic regression and structural equation modeling (SEM). The 1-year prevalence of LBP among Chinese manufacturing workers was 33.6%. Logistic regression analysis showed that job tenure, awkward postures, vibration and job demand were positively-while social support and job control were negatively associated with LBP (p less then 0.05). The SEM results indicated that, as shown in other studies, job types, job tenure, postural load, high job demand, low job control and vibration were directly associated with LBP, but also that job types, high job demand, low social support and vibration may have indirect effects on LBP-mediated by postural load.The search for selective heterogeneous catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of alcohols to ketones and aldehydes has drawn **** attention in the last decade. To that end, different palladium-based catalysts have been proposed that use various organic and inorganic supports. In addition, supports that originate from a biological and renewable source that is also nontoxic and biodegradable were found to be superior. Moreover, they were easily removed from the reaction mixture and recycled, yielding an increase in activity with each subsequent reuse. As determined by TEM and XPS, the reduction in palladium and the formation of nanoparticles during the reaction in ethanol yielded more active species and, therefore, higher conversion rates. A SEM-EDS analysis indicated that the palladium was thoroughly dispersed in the xerogel catalysts. Moreover, the xerogel catalyst was observed to undergo a structural change during the reaction. To conclude, the new heterogeneous catalyst was prepared by a simple and straightforward method that used a non-toxic, renewable and biodegradable support to yield an active, selective and recyclable heterogeneous system.

According to emission spectra recorded under near-ultraviolet (NUV) excitation (351 nm, 7F6 → 5L9 transition of Tb3+), the mutual coexistence of the 5D4 → 7FJ (J = 6-3) (Tb3+) and the 5D0 → 7FJ (J = 0-4) (Eu3+) luminescence bands was clearly observed. The co-doping also resulted in gradual shortening of a lifetime from the 5D4 state of Tb3+ ions, and the ET efficiencies were varied from ηET = 11.9% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 10.5) to ηET = 22.9% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 12) for xerogels, and from ηET = 25.7% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 10.5) up to ηET = 67.4% (Tb3+Eu3+ = 12) for glass-ceramics. The aim of this study was to survey the prevalence of LBP among manufacturing workers and to identify associations of individual and work-related factors with LBP. A cross-sectional questionnaire study was performed with 1173 participating manufacturing workers. The questionnaire included individual factors, psychosocial and physical exposures, and musculoskeletal discomfort. It was analyzed by logistic regression and structural equation modeling (SEM). The 1-year prevalence of LBP among Chinese manufacturing workers was 33.6%. Logistic regression analysis showed that job tenure, awkward postures, vibration and job demand were positively-while social support and job control were negatively associated with LBP (p less then 0.05). This article provides an African American-Native American analyst-in-training's first-hand reflections on Jung's firm depiction of Blacks of African descent and America's First Nations People (the Red man) as inferior, through a theory of primitivity that unveils Jung's belief in and support of White supremacy. With no intended disrespect or neglect intended toward America's First Nations, this article focuses primarily on Jung's apparent disdain for Blacks (the Negro). Utilizing writings from Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois and Na'im Akbar, this article highlights ways in which Jung's biases align with the White supremacist perspective of the Negro as a problem, detrimental to social order. The paper concludes with an Appendix which outlines a call to the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) to take corrective action and to publicly denounce those facets of Jung's writings that diverge from the core of his theory and that promote toxic attitudes of bigotry, perhaps discouraging many people of colour from enrolling in analytic training.In this paper I attempt to show how deep engagement, which is gradually developed within the relational container, can facilitate access to the psychoid dimension of the unconscious characterized by a quality of interconnectedness. The resulting synchronistic experiences can support and strengthen this container as well as having profound re-connecting impact on the people involved. With this in mind, I suggest that openness to this dimension can be very important in working with the issues of loss, abandonment, aloneness and mistrust in human connections - the symbolic domain of the orphan. Although none of the patients I describe in this paper were actual orphans, symbolically the orphan theme featured significantly in their processes, in that early relational trauma left them feeling profoundly alone and unable to trust human contact. Twenty-two articles were included in our review. HrQol was assessed in N = 18 publications, most frequently using SF-36 (N = 10), followed by EQ5D-5L (N = 4), EORTC-QLQ (N = 4), and the FACT questionnaire (N = 2). The assessment of FD was reported in N = 11 publications, mostly using the KPS (N = 8). The Barthel index was used in N = 2 publications. Follow-up was reported in N = 12 publications, ranging from 6 months to 9 years. Scientific publications assessing long-term postoperative HrQol and FD in patients undergoing meningioma surgery are scarce and the data are heterogeneously reported, using various scales and follow-up protocols. Efforts should be undertaken to uniformly assess long-term post-operative functional outcomes in meningioma patients.

Multivariable adjusted hazard ratios (HR) were calculated to estimate the risk for drug discontinuation in the ixekizumab group relative to the other drugs. Among the 1604 drug initiations, 552 initiated ixekizumab, 450 initiated TNFi, and 602 initiated other IL-17i. Mean age was 51 years, 49% were women, and 52% were obese (BMI > 30). Ixekizumab patients had a higher proportion of patients with PASI >12 at drug initiation (24%) than TNFi (15%) and other IL-17i (19%). Over a median of 11 months of follow-up, 723/1604 (45%) drug discontinuations occurred. Persistence of ixekizumab, TNFi, and other IL-17i at 24-months were 68%, 33%, and 46%, among biologic-naïve patients (n = 543), and 46%, 23%, and 36%, for biologic-experienced patients (n = 1061), respectively. Ixekizumab patients had a 64% lower risk of discontinuation vs TNFi (HR = 0.36; 95% CI 0.27-0.47) and a 31% lower risk vs other IL-17i (HR = 0.69, 95% CI 0.55-0.87) after adjustment for biologic experience and other covariates. HRs were similar when limited to patients with moderate-to-severe PsO (BSA > 3, PASI > 3, and IGA > 1, n = 1076) at initiation. Dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) is related to the occurrence of osteoarthritis (OA). In the present study, we explored the role of LINC02288 and its regulatory mechanism in OA development.
GSE113825 was obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and analyzed to identify the differentially expressed lncRNAs in OA. Gene enrichment analyses and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes biological process analysis were performed through Metascape (http//metascape.org/gp). The interactions among LINC02288, miR-374a-3p and RTN3 were determined using RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays and dual luciferase reporter assays. Chondrocyte apoptosis was examined using flow cytometry. Western blot assays were conducted to assess the pro-apoptotic and anti-apoptotic markers.
We identified a total of 4,491 differentially expressed lncRNAs. We focused on LINC02288 as the top-ranked up-regulated lncRNA in OA as indicated by a significant p-value. LINC02288 was significantly up-regulated, which was further verified by a real-time polymerase chain reaction. Down-regulation of LINC02288 significantly reduced the apoptosis of OA chondrocytes induced by interleukin-1β and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. These effects were further verified in an OA rat model. An RIP assay and dual luciferase assay further confirmed that LINC02288 served as a sponge of miR-374a-3p. Moreover, the overexpression of RTN3 could partially reverse the effects of LINC02288 knockdown, mediating inhibitory effects on chondrocyte apoptosis and the inflammatory response. Down-regulation of LINC02288 alleviated OA development in an in vivo OA animal model.

Interleukins play an important role in the development of autoimmune disorders. The aim of this study was to compare the concentration of interleukin-29 (IL-29) between healthy controls (CS) and patients with selected thyroid disorders Graves' disease (GD), Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and subacute thyroiditis (SAT).
The following parameters were examined in the group of 95 individuals (45 with GD, 22 with HT, 28 with SAT) and 72 CS thyroid hormones and autoantibodies, inflammatory markers and the concentration of IL-29 in serum.
The concentration of IL-29 in the GD subgroup was higher than that in the CS subgroup [264.0 (62.5-1018.0) vs. 62.5 (62.5-217.0) pg/mL, P=.001]. We found no differences in IL-29 concentrations between the CS and HT or SAT subgroups. Multivariable linear regression analysis indicated that IL-29 was a statistically significant independent predictor of GD presence (r=0.24; P=.003) after adjustment for TRAb (R
=0.45; P<.001). The ROC analysis of IL-29 at GD diagnosis revealed an IL-29 cut-off of 123pg/mL (sensitivity 0.689 and specificity 0.625) as the best value, which significantly indicated the presence of GD [area under the ROC curve (AUC) 0.676; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.574-0.778, P<.001].

To compare systematically the alcohol-attributable mortality and burden of disease estimates for 2016 from a recent study by Shield and colleagues and the Global Burden of Disease study 2017 (GBD).
This study compared estimates of alcohol-attributable mortality and disability adjusted life years (DALYs) lost for 2016 with regards to absolute and relative differences, by region and by cause of disease or injury. Relative differences between the two studies are reported herein as percentage (%) differences. A difference of 10% or more was considered meaningful.
The studies estimated similar global levels of overall alcohol-attributable mortality for 2016 (Shield and colleagues estimated 5.1% more alcohol-attributable mortality than the GBD study) but not alcohol-attributable DALYs lost (18.3% difference). Paroxysmal dyskinesias (PxDs) are characterized by involuntary movements and altered pre-motor circuit activity. Causative mutations provide a means to understand the molecular basis of PxDs. Yet in many cases, animal models harboring corresponding mutations are lacking. Here we utilize the fruit fly, Drosophila, to study a PxD linked to a gain-of-function (GOF) mutation in the KCNMA1/hSlo1 BK potassium channel.
We aimed to recreate the equivalent BK (big potassium) channel mutation in Drosophila. We sought to determine how this mutation altered action potentials (APs) and synaptic release in vivo; to test whether this mutation disrupted pre-motor circuit function and locomotion; and to define neural circuits involved in locomotor disruption.
We generated a knock-in Drosophila model using homologous recombination. We used electrophysiological recordings and calcium-imaging to assess AP shape, neurotransmission, and the activity of the larval pre-motor central pattern generator (CPG). CREB-binding protein (CBP) promotes transcription through hundreds of different transcription factors and is also important for reward-related behavior. To identify transcription factors regulated by dopamine signaling in MSNs, we performed a phosphoproteomic analysis using affinity beads coated with CBP. We obtained approximately 40 novel candidate proteins in the striatum of the C57BL/6 mouse brain after cocaine administration. Among them, the megakaryoblastic leukemia-2 (MKL2) protein, a transcriptional coactivator of serum response factor (SRF), was our focus. We found that the interaction between CBP and MKL2 was increased by cocaine administration. Additionally, MKL2, CBP and SRF formed a ternary complex in vivo. The C-terminal domain of MKL2 interacted with CBP-KIX and was phosphorylated by MAPK in COS7 cells. The activation of PKA-MAPK signaling induced the nuclear localization of MKL2 and increased SRF-dependent transcriptional activity in neurons. These results demonstrate that dopamine signaling regulates the interaction of MKL2 with CBP in a phosphorylation-dependent manner and thereby controls SRF-dependent gene expression. Rhodopsin is the light receptor required for the function and health of photoreceptor cells. Mutations in rhodopsin can cause misfolding and aggregation of the receptor, which leads to retinal degeneration. Bovine rhodopsin is often used as a model to understand the effect of pathogenic mutations in rhodopsin due to the abundance of structural information on the bovine form of the receptor. It is unclear whether or not the bovine rhodopsin template is adequate in predicting the effect of these mutations occurring in human retinal disease or in predicting the efficacy of therapeutic strategies. To better understand the extent to which bovine rhodopsin can serve as a model, human and bovine P23H rhodopsin mutants expressed heterologously in cells were examined. The aggregation properties and cellular localization of the mutant receptors were determined by Förster resonance energy transfer and confocal microscopy. The potential therapeutic effects of the pharmacological compounds 9-cis retinal and metformin were also examined. Human and bovine P23H rhodopsin mutants exhibited different aggregation properties and responses to the pharmacological compounds tested. These observations would lead to different predictions on the severity of the phenotype and divergent predictions on the benefit of the therapeutic compounds tested. To develop an efficient lysosomotropic compound screening system, we introduced an imidazole group to iridium-based complexes and designed a long-lifetime lysosomal probe to monitor lysosomal activity in living cells. By integrating time-resolved emission spectroscopy (TRES) with the novel iridium-based lysosomal probe, a high-throughput screening platform capable of overcoming background fluorescent interference in living cells was developed for discovering lysosomotropic drugs. As a proof-of-concept, 400 FDA/EMA-approved drugs were screened using the TRES system, revealing five compounds as potential lysosomotropic agents. Significantly, the most promising potent lysosomotropic compound (mitoxantrone) identified in this work would have showed less activity if screened using a commercial lysosomal probe because of interference from the intrinsic fluorescence of mitoxantrone. We identified specific mutants that have resistance to isopropanol and isobutanol. Notably, the WAR1_K110N variant improved tolerance to both isopropanol and isobutanol. In addition, we investigated the mechanisms for improvement of isopropanol and isobutanol stress tolerance and found that genes related to glycolysis play a role in tolerance to isobutanol, while changes in ATP synthesis and mitochondrial respiration play a role in tolerance to both isobutanol and isopropanol. Failure to accurately replicate the native anatomy and biomechanics of the knee has been suggested to contribute to dissatisfaction after TKA. Custom implants promise a personalized surgical approach, with the aim of improving patient satisfaction and pain as well as lowering revision rates. However, some published research on custom TKA implants has found no clinically important improvements in postoperative validated outcomes scores, risks of revision or reoperation, and implant alignment. In the interest of helping to settle this controversy, a systematic review seems warranted.
In this systematic review, we asked whether custom implants result in clinically important improvements over conventional off-the-shelf implants for anatomically uncomplicated primary TKA in terms of (1) validated outcomes scores, (2) the risk of revision or reoperation, and (3) implant alignment.
The US National Library of Medicine (PubMed/Medline), Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were sysall benefit to alignment, custom implants for primary TKA for the general population currently appear to be inferior to standard implants. Whether the slight reduction in the proportion of patients with alignment outliers observed in a minority of studies will result in a substantial reduction in revision risk over time must be addressed by future studies. However, until or unless such a reduction is proven, we recommend against the routine use of custom implants in practice because of increased costs and the risks associated with their novelty.

Slit-lamp photography and Fourier domain optical coherence tomography were used to document the clinical course and appearance of the corneas in a patient with genetically determined GCD2 who underwent unilateral SMILE in the right eye.
Slit-lamp examination of a 23-year-old woman revealed 2 faint opacities at the surgical interface approximately 2 months after the SMILE procedure had been performed on her right eye. Nine and 3 typical GCD2 deposits located immediately beneath the Bowman layer were observed in the right and left corneas, respectively. Over time, the deposits at the interface increased in size, density, and number in the right eye. Fourier domain optical coherence tomography performed 33 months after the SMILE procedure revealed deposits at the SMILE interface that were distinct from those located immediately beneath the Bowman layer. The severity of disease exacerbation was less in this patient than what is typically observed in others who have undergone laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis or photorefractive keratectomy.
SMILE is contraindicated in patients with GCD2, as are other corneal refractive surgical procedures. This case highlights the importance of genetic testing before the performance of refractive corneal procedures-especially for patients with corneal opacities on preoperative slit-lamp examination or a family history of corneal disease compatible with that of a corneal dystrophy.

This study characterized ocular pain symptoms in individuals with and without a history of refractive surgery (RS) using a cross-sectional survey of individuals with ocular pain.
A link to an anonymous survey was posted on a corneal neuralgia Facebook group that included individuals with ocular pain from any etiology and sent to individuals seen in our clinic with ocular pain. The survey asked about medical history, ocular pain symptoms (using standardized questionnaires), and treatment responses. Respondents were split into 2 groups based on a history of RS.
One hundred one individuals responded to the survey. The mean age for all respondents was 41.6 ± 15.6 years, and 50% reported a history of RS. A total of 46% of individuals with a history of RS reported that their ocular pain started within 1 month of surgery, with median pain duration of 36 (interquartile range 22-84) months. The median Dry Eye Questionnaire-5 (range 0-22) scores were 16 and 15 for the RS and no-RS groups, respectively. Most individuals in both groups characterized their pain as burning (score ≥1 RS, 86%; no-RS, 80%) and reported evoked pain to wind, light, or temperature (score ≥1 RS, 97%; no-RS, 85%). Fifty-nine of 101 individuals responded to treatment questions. Individuals in both groups reported >30% improvement in pain symptoms with some topical and systemic approaches.
