More than 2.8 million annually in the United States are afflicted with some form of traumatic brain injury (TBI), where 75% of victims have a mild form of TBI (MTBI). TBI risk is higher for individuals engaging in physical activities or involved in accidents. Although MTBI may not be initially life-threatening, a large number of these victims can develop cognitive and physical dysfunctions. These late clinical sequelae have been attributed to the development of secondary injuries that can occur minutes to days after the initial impact. To minimize brain damage from TBI, it is critical to diagnose and treat patients within the first or "golden" hour after TBI. Although it would be very helpful to quickly determine the TBI locations in the brain and direct the treatment selectively to the affected sites, this remains a challenge. Herein, we disclose our novel strategy to target cyclosporine A (CsA) into TBI sites, without the need to locate the exact location of the TBI lesion. Our approach is based on TBI treatment with a cyanine dye nanocage attached to CsA, a known therapeutic agent for TBI that is associated with unacceptable toxicities. We evaluated the photocatalytic H2 evolution performance of InP/CuZnS QDs under visible light, which showed outstanding photocatalytic H2 evolution activity and stability under visible light illumination. Flotation tests suggested that the detrimental effect of clay minerals on the flotation of pyrite increased as follows montmorillonite > kaolinite > illite. With the help of rheology measurements, it was found that montmorillonite significantly increased pulp viscosity, which in turn substantially reduced pyrite recovery and grade. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images suggested that montmorillonite formed the "house-of-cards" structure by edge-to-edge and edge-to-face contact, while kaolinite and illite platelets were associated mainly in the face-to-face mode. In addition, it was clearly observed by SEM-energy dispersive spectrometry that montmorillonite and kaolinite coat on the pyrite surfaces, which would lower the surface hydrophobicity of pyrite.

People experiencing homelessness have worse health outcomes than the general population and limited access to primary/preventative healthcare. This leads to high hospital readmission rates. Effective discharge planning can improve recovery rates and reduce hospital costs. However, most hospital discharge policies and best practice guidelines are not tailored to patients with no fixed address, contributing to inappropriate discharges and health inequities for people experiencing homelessness. We discuss the lack of discharge policies, identifiable processes or plans specifically tailored to this population as a healthcare and policy gap, and we identify key areas for better understanding and addressing this issue.Each of canada's provinces and territories needs to modernize its basket of insured health services to reflect a broader conceptualization of healthcare. The narrow focus on hospital and physician services excludes multidisciplinary care models, such as those reflected by Family Health Teams in Ontario, Groupe de médecine de famille in Qué****and primary care networks in Alberta. In these models, a wider range of services and supports is being used to respond to changing demographics and patterns of morbidity, and whose residents' care needs include social workers, mental health providers, personal support workers and dietitians.The association between suicide risk and sexual minority status can be understood from the perspective of the social determinants of health, an approach that requires the development of culturally sensitive knowledge. The aim of this study was to characterize young gay and lesbian people's subjective construction of their experience of having lived and survived a suicidal process. Qualitative interviews were conducted and analyzed as products based on life events. In the participants' accounts, we identified hostile contexts associated with suicide, trajectories associated with gay/lesbian identification processes, and milestones related to victimization experiences as part of the intentionality and rationality of suicide.

Using minority stress theory as a framework, this article aims to highlight the myriad negative mental and physical health outcomes related to body image concerns and eating disorder symptomatology in sexual minority men. Recommendations are provided to guide psychological practice related to body image concerns in sexual minority men.
To explore the prevalence and severity of smartphone addiction among a sample of Canadian university students.
A sample of 925 full-time university students enrolled at the host institution were recruited. Participants were primarily undergraduates (70.2%), women (77.1%), and owned an Apple smartphone (70.3%).
Participants completed an online questionnaire including a modified version of the Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS) and demographics (i.e., degree pursing, gender, type of phone, faculty). Descriptive statistics for SAS sum score were calculated. Univariate ANOVAs were performed to explore differences in smartphone addiction among demographics.
Mean SAS sum score was 92.00 (i.e., "moderate" addiction level), 95% CI [90.52, 93.49]. Significant ANOVAs were found for degree, phone type, and faculty. Post-hoc tests revealed undergraduates and Apple users reported significantly higher smartphone addiction.

Furthermore, we found five genes with potential for methylation biomarkers of poor prognosis in colorectal cancer patients.P2 × 4R is allosterically modulated by Zn(II), and despite the efforts to understand the mechanism, there is not a consensus proposal; C132 is a critical amino acid for the Zn(II) modulation, and this residue is located in the receptor head domain, forming disulfide SS3. To ascertain the role of the SS2/SS3 microenvironment on the rP2 × 4R Zn(II)-induced allosteric modulation, we investigated the contribution of each individual SS2/SS3 cysteine plus carboxylic acid residues E118, E160, and D170, located in the immediate vicinity of the SS2/SS3 disulfide bonds. To this aim, we combined electrophysiological recordings with protein chemical alkylation using thiol reagents such as N-ethylmaleimide or iodoacetamide, and a mutation of key amino acid residues together with P2 × 4 receptor bioinformatics. P2 × 4R alkylation in the presence of the metal obliterated the allosteric modulation, a finding supported by the site-directed mutagenesis of C132 and C149 by a corresponding alanine. In addition, while E118Q was sensitive to Zn(II) modulation, the wild type receptor, mutants E160Q and D170N, were not, suggesting that these acid residues participate in the modulatory mechanism. Poisson-Boltzmann analysis indicated that the E160Q and D170N mutants showed a shift towards more positive electrostatic potential in the SS2/SS3 microenvironment. Therefore, in the current study, we searched 'Google Trends' using the phytohormone search terms, abscisic acid, auxins, brassinosteroids, cytokinin, ethylene, gibberellins, jasmonic acid, salicylic acid, and strble factors for the search queries found for all the nine phytohormones in India and the United States of America.The benefits of thermal water in different diseases have been known since ancient times. Over the past decades, a re-assessment of the use of mineral water for the treatment of several pathologic conditions has taken place around the world. Today, water therapy is being practiced in many countries that have a variety of mineral springs considerably different in their hydrogeologic origin, temperature, and chemical composition. Thermal water and balneotherapy offer several advantages this approach needs no chemicals or potentially harmful drugs; there are almost no side effects during and after treatment, and there is a low risk to the patient's general health and well-being. However, it is difficult to evaluate the efficacy of this therapeutic approach in clinical practice due to the complexity of molecular mechanisms underlying its efficacy. To this aim, we combined electrophysiological recordings with protein chemical alkylation using thiol reagents such as N-ethylmaleimide or iodoacetamide, and a mutation of key amino acid residues together with P2 × 4 receptor bioinformatics. P2 × 4R alkylation in the presence of the metal obliterated the allosteric modulation, a finding supported by the site-directed mutagenesis of C132 and C149 by a corresponding alanine. In addition, while E118Q was sensitive to Zn(II) modulation, the wild type receptor, mutants E160Q and D170N, were not, suggesting that these acid residues participate in the modulatory mechanism. Poisson-Boltzmann analysis indicated that the E160Q and D170N mutants showed a shift towards more positive electrostatic potential in the SS2/SS3 microenvironment. We aimed to describe a practical classification system for PAAG migration after breast injection and evaluate the outcome of our management.
A retrospective review of medical records was conducted for patients who presented to our institution for the management of PAAG migration after injection augmentation mammaplasty from June 2013 to November 2018. PAAG migration was evaluated by MRI examination and classified based on the migrating direction outside the breast contour. Surgery was performed to remove the material completely through different incisions.
Seventy-eight women met the study criteria, with 106 breasts identified as showing PAAG migration. Patients were classified as having superior (22%), lateral (25%), inferior (34%), medial (10%) or complex (9%) PAAG displacement. The mean follow-up was 9months (range 3-18months). Despite the multi-extreme physic-chemical conditions of the sulphate soils (low pH, variable content of macro and micronutrients and organic matter), the fungal assemblages exhibited moderate diversity indices, which ranged according to the degree of soil development. Soils with more weathered and, consequently, with highest values of organic carbon shelter the most diverse fungal assemblages, which can be associated with the occurrence of sulphurisation and sulphide oxidation. Different taxa of Mortierella and Penicillium displayed broad pH (3-9) and temperature (5-35 °C) plasticity. The multi-extreme sulphite soils of Antarctica revealed the presence of moderate fungal diversity comprising cold cosmopolitan and psychrophilic endemic taxa.

This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy for the DL of gastric adenomas and well- differentiated adenocarcinomas using only magnifying blue laser imaging (M-BLI) compared to that using both M-BLI and biopsy confirmation.

We aimed to investigate the strength of different respiratory modulations and the accuracy of resultant RF estimations in different body sites and two breathing patterns.
PPG and reference respiratory signals were simultaneously measured over 60 s from 36 healthy subjects in six sites (arm, earlobe, finger, forehead, wrist-under (volar side), wrist-upper (dorsal side)). Respiratory signals were extracted from PPG recordings using four demodulation approaches amplitude modulation (AM), baseline wandering (BW), frequency modulation (FM) and filtering. RFs were calculated from the PPG-derived and reference respiratory signals. To investigate the strength of respiratory modulations, the energy proportion in the range that covers 75% of the total energy in the reference respiratory signal, with RF in the middle, was ccurate RF estimation from PPG signals recorded at different sites and for different breathing patterns.

In this work, we extensively study the impact of non-radiative defects on optical response of the plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy (PA-MBE) grown InGaN nanowires, emitting in the higher wavelength regime ([Formula see text] nm). Our analysis focuses into the effect of defect saturation on the optical output, manifested by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Defect saturation has not so far been thoroughly investigated in InGaN based systems at such a high wavelength, where defects play a key role in restraining efficient optical performance. We argue that with saturation of defect states by photo-generated carriers, the advantages of carrier localization can be employed to enhance the optical output. Carrier localization arises because of Indium phase segregation, which is confirmed from wide PL spectrum and analysis from transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A theoretical model has been proposed and solved using coupled differential rate equations in steady state to undertake different phenomena, occurred during PL measurements. Analysis of the model helps us understand the impact of non-radiative defects on PL response and identifying the origin of enhanced radiative recombination.The crystal structure of BiSbTeSe2 (Bi2-x Sb x Te3-y Se y (x = 1.0 and y = 2.0)) at 0-29 GPa is investigated through synchrotron x-ray diffraction (XRD) and two structural phase transitions are discovered. The superconducting transition temperature, T c, increased with pressure. The maximum T c value is 8.3 K at 19.1 GPa. The magnetic field dependence of T c in phase II of Bi1.19(4)Sb0.81(4)Te0.83(4)Se2.17(4) is proceeded by a p-wave polar model, indicating topologically nontrivial superconductivity. In addition, the emergence of superconductivity and the change in superconducting behavior are closely associated with the structural transitions.

Defect saturation has not so far been thoroughly investigated in InGaN based systems at such a high wavelength, where defects play a key role in restraining efficient optical performance. We argue that with saturation of defect states by photo-generated carriers, the advantages of carrier localization can be employed to enhance the optical output. Carrier localization arises because of Indium phase segregation, which is confirmed from wide PL spectrum and analysis from transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A theoretical model has been proposed and solved using coupled differential rate equations in steady state to undertake different phenomena, occurred during PL measurements. Analysis of the model helps us understand the impact of non-radiative defects on PL response and identifying the origin of enhanced radiative recombination.The crystal structure of BiSbTeSe2 (Bi2-x Sb x Te3-y Se y (x = 1.0 and y = 2.0)) at 0-29 GPa is investigated through synchrotron x-ray diffraction (XRD) and two structural phase transitions are discovered. The stoichiometry of BiSbTeSe2 employed in this study is Bi1.19(4)Sb0.81(4)Te0.83(4)Se2.17(4), as determined from energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. The sample demonstrated structural transitions, from a rhombohedral structure (space group no 166, R [Formula see text] m) (phase I) to a monoclinic structure (space group no 12, C2/m) (phase II), and from phase II to a 9/10-fold monoclinic structure (space group no 12, C2/m) (phase III). The superconducting transition temperature, T c, increased with pressure. The maximum T c value is 8.3 K at 19.1 GPa. The magnetic field dependence of T c in phase II of Bi1.19(4)Sb0.81(4)Te0.83(4)Se2.17(4) is proceeded by a p-wave polar model, indicating topologically nontrivial superconductivity. For this analysis, whole blood specimens from a longitudinal study in Bancoumana, Mali were used to evaluate the performance of the ultra-sensitive HRP2-based Alere™ Malaria Ag P.f RDT (uRDT). The samples were collected as part of a transmission-blocking vaccine trial in a high transmission region for Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Furthermore, antigen dynamics after successful anti-malarial drug treatment were evaluated in these samples using the Q-Plex Human Malaria Array (4-Plex) to quantify antigen concentrations.
The uRDT had a 50% probability of a positive result at 207pg/mL HRP2 [95% credible interval (CrI) 160-268]. Individuals with symptomatic infection remained positive by uRDT for a median of 33days [95% confostics to be helpful tools in distinguishing between active versus recently cleared malaria infections.

This study aimed to assess the needs for strengthening health economics capacity in Jordan, Lebanon, the occupied Palestinian territories and Turkey as part of the Research for Health in Conflict in theMiddle East and North Africa (R4HC) project.
We combined a bibliometric analysis of health economics outputs based on a literature search conducted across seven databaseswith an online survey of academic researchers and non-academic practitioners. The records included in the bibliometric analysiswere original studies and reviews with an explicit economic outcome related to health, disease or disability, had at least one author in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine or Turkey, and were published between January 2014 and December 2018. Many studies are available in the literature about e-health in Saudi Arabia, however, data is limited to a few organizations and does not necessarily reflect the current and potential use of e-health for health care organizations in the country. This study aimed to determine the level of awareness of Saudi medical students of the internet-based health-related information seeking and developing to support health services and significant predictors of their practice.
A cross-sectional survey of 440 medical students in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was conducted, during October/November 2019, using a previously validated questionnaire, to assess (1) knowledge in three domains; e-health definition (13 statements), fields of application of e-health (8 statements), methods of using e-health (7 statements), (2) attitude toward using e-health (8 statements) and (3) reported practice of e-health in medical training (5 statements). A scoring system was used to calculate the total and percentage score of knowledge, attitudeamily monthly income, good practice was significantly predicted with higher knowledge (t = 2.22, p = 0.03) and attitude (t = 2.11, p = 0.04) scores.
This study provides basic information regarding medical students' level of awareness of internet-based health-related information seeking and developing to support health services. More resources should be directed to elevate medical students' knowledge and to motivate them to practice e-health using the available tools.

Circumsporozoite surface protein (CSP) of malaria parasites has been recognized as one of the leading vaccine candidates. Clinical trials of vaccines for vivax malaria incorporating Plasmodium vivax CSP (PvCSP) have demonstrated their effectiveness in preventing malaria, at least in part. However, genetic diversity of pvcsp in the natural population remains a major concern.
A total of 171 blood samples collected from patients infected with Plasmodium vivax in Myanmar were analysed in this study. The pvcsp was amplified by polymerase chain reaction, followed by cloning and sequencing. Polymorphic characteristics and natural selection of pvcsp population in Myanmar were analysed using DNASTAR, MEGA6 and DnaSP programs. The polymorphic pattern and natural selection of publicly accessible global pvcsp sequences were also comparatively analysed.
Myanmar pvcsp sequences were divided into two subtypes VK210 and VK247 comprising 143 and 28 sequences, respectively. The VK210 subtypes showed higher levels of genetic diversity and polymorphism than the VK247 subtypes.

Baseline SEP measurements were recorded from each participant, followed by a mental recitation control task. Pre-test SEP measurements were then recorded, followed by the motor training task, and post-test SEP recordings. The participants completed the tracing with their right thumb, using glenohumeral rotation only to move their hand. Significant improvements in task accuracy were demonstrated, indicating that motor acquisition had occurred. Significant changes were also seen in the N11, N13, N20, N24, P25, and the N30 SEP peaks were seen following the motor training task. Conclusion Early SEPs appear to be a sensitive measure of changes in sensorimotor integration in response to novel motor skill acquisition within the proximal upper-limb muscles.Prickly pear cactus peels (Opuntia ficus-indica, PPCP) are sustainable byproducts available in arid regions and a rich source of antioxidants. Fifteen multiparous Barki ewes (2-3 years old, 46.94 ± 0.59 kg body weight, BW) at postpartum were individually distributed in three equal groups and fed diets supplemented with PPCP at doses of 0, 5 and 10 g/head/day. Lambs were individually distributed into three equal groups according to their mothers' groups to investigate the maternal effect on lambs' growth performance, hematology and serum metabolites. This trial lasted for 56 days from birth to weaning. Moreover, nine adult male Barki sheep with a live BW of 65.76 ± 0.54 kg were randomly allocated into three equal groups to determine the effect of PPCP on the nutrient digestibility of the experimental diets. The results indicate that supplementing PPCP at low levels (5 g/head/day) increased milk yield (p = 0.050), fat-corrected milk (p = 0.022), energy-corrected milk (p = 0.015) and the yield of milk constituentation characteristics of Barki sheep.
The cross-talk between the external and internal environment in the respiratory tract involves macrophage/dendritic cell (DC) transepithelial network. Epithelium triggers dendritic cell-mediated inflammation by producing thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), IL-33, and IL-17A. The study aimed to evaluate the expression of TSLP, IL-33, and IL-17A in human monocyte derived dendritic cells (moDCs) co-cultured with respiratory epithelium and monocyte derived macrophages (moMφs) in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and healthy controls.
The study used a triple-cell co-culture model, utilizing nasal epithelial cells, along with moMφs and moDCs. Cells were cultured in mono-, di-, and triple-co-cultures for 24 h.
Co-culture with epithelium and moMφs significantly increased TSLP in asthma and did not change IL-33 and IL-17A mRNA expression in moDCs. moDCs from asthmatics were characterized by the highest TSLP mRNA expression and the richest population of TSLPR, ST2, and IL17RA expressed cells. A high number of positive correlations between the assessed cytokines and CHI3L1, IL-12p40, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF in moDCs was observed in asthma and COPD.

Lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) are rare, chronic, progressive multisystem diseases implying severe medical issues and psychological burden. Some of these disorders are susceptible to a treatment, which is administered weekly or every other week, in a hospital. During the COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019) pandemic lockdown, patients with LSDs on enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) missed their scheduled access to the Day Hospital to get their treatment.
Based on the feeling that our patients were experiencing profound distress, we designed a structured telephone interview with the aim to evaluate how, and to which extent, the pandemic outbreak was changing their behavior and feelings about their chronic disease, the impact on therapies, and future expectations. The same interview was administered to an age-matched control group.
All interviewed people experienced an increase of anxiety, worries, and uncertainty fostered by incessant media updates. Moreover, a striking similarity emerged between the groups regarding forced home reclusion and the profound feeling to be excluded by normal life, well-known to those affected by a chronic rare disease.
Although no statistically significant difference was found compared to controls, we felt that the reactions were qualitatively different, underlining the fragility and isolation of such patients.

Although **** of the attention surrounding the opioid epidemic has focused on rural and suburban Whites and prescription opioids, heroin overdoses among urban Blacks are on the rise. While some argue that legalization of cannabis will combat the epidemic, there are concerns it ignores the shift in the epidemic and could increase vulnerability to opioid misuse. The goal of this study is to examine the association between cannabis use from adolescence to young adulthood with opioid misuse in a primarily urban Black cohort.
Data are from a study of 580 youth (87 % Black and 71 % low SES) residing in Baltimore City followed from ages 6-26. Cannabis trajectories were identified between ages 14-26 using group-based trajectory modeling. Logistic regressions were conducted to examine the impact of trajectories on opioid misuse in young adulthood adjusting for individual, neighborhood and peer factors. Opioid misuse was defined as using heroin or narcotics or painkillers without a prescription between ages 19-26.
Four cannabis trajectories were identified Low/Non-Users (59.7 %), Adolescent Onset Limited (19.5 %), Young Adult Onset (10.8 %), and Adolescent Onset Chronic (10.0 %). Adolescent Onset Chronic cannabis users had the highest rate of opioid misuse (44.8 %) followed by Adolescent Onset Limited (18.8 %), Young Adult Onset (14.8 %) and Low/Non-Users (8.3 %). Prevalences were significantly higher for Adolescent Onset groups relative to Low/Non-Users even after adjustment for individual, neighborhood and peer factors.

This systematic review examines 97 studies investigating associations of parental childhood victimization with a range of parenting behaviors that may contribute to the intergenerational effects of abuse abusive parenting, problematic parenting, positive parenting, and positive parental affect. Key findings include (1) parents who report experiencing physical abuse or witnessing violence in the home during childhood are at increased risk for reporting that they engage in abusive or neglectful parenting; (2) a cumulative effect of maltreatment experiences, such that adults who report experiencing multiple types or repeated instances of victimization are at greatest risk for perpetrating child abuse; (3) associations between reported childhood maltreatment experiences and parents' problematic role reversal with, rejection of, and withdrawal from their children; (4) indirect effects between reported childhood maltreatment and abusive parenting via adult intimate partner violence; and (5) indirect effects between reported childhood maltreatment and lower levels of positive parenting behaviors and affect via mothers' mental health. Thus, childhood experiences of maltreatment may alter parents' ability to avoid negative and utilize positive parenting practices. Limitations of this body of literature include few prospective studies, an overreliance on adults' self-report of their childhood victimization and current parenting, and little examination of potentially differential associations for mothers and fathers.
A substantial number of patients with late-life depression (LLD) that remitted after ECT experience relapse. Identifying risk factors for relapse may guide clinical management to devote attention to those at increased risk. Therefore the current study aims to evaluate which baseline clinical characteristics are related to relapse within six months after successful ECT in patients with severe LLD.
110 patients with LLD from the prospective naturalistic follow-up Mood Disorders in Elderly treated with Electro-Convulsive Therapy (MODECT) study were included. A total of 73 patients (66.4%) remitted after ECT, six patients had missing information on relapse, rendering to a total sample size of 67 patients. Relapse within six months after ECT was defined as a Montgomery Åsberg Depression Scale (MADRS)-score > 15, readmission or restart of ECT. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine the association between baseline clinical characteristics and relapse.
A total of 22 patients (32.8%) experienced a relapse. Patients with psychotic depression were less likely to relapse (odds ratio=0.32, p=.047), corrected for prior admissions; 76.9% of patients with psychotic depression remained remitted.
Due to its naturalistic design, no firm conclusions can be drawn on the effect of post-ECT treatment.
Patients with psychotic depression had a lower risk to experience relapse after successful ECT. This result strengthens the hypothesis that psychotic depression might be a specific depression subtype with a favorable ECT outcome up to six months after ECT.

reat UC.To date, there has been little investigation of biodegradable tissue engineered arterial grafts (TEAG) using clinically relevant large animal models. The purpose of this study is to explore how pore size of electrospun scaffolds can be used to balance neoarterial tissue formation with graft structural integrity under arterial environmental conditions throughout the remodeling process. TEAGs were created with an outer poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) electrospun layer and an inner sponge layer composed of heparin conjugated 5050 poly (l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) copolymer (PLCL). Outer electrospun layers were created with four different pore diameters (4, 7, 10, and 15 µm). Fourteen adult female sheep underwent bilateral carotid artery interposition grafting (n = 3-4 /group). Our heparin-eluting TEAG was implanted on one side (n = 14) and ePTFE graft (n = 3) or non-heparin-eluting TEAG (n = 5) on the other side. Twelve of the fourteen animals survived to the designated endpoint at 8 weeks, and one animal with 4 µm pneotissue can bear the load. Species-specific differences in tissue regeneration and larger mechanical forces often result in graft failure when scaling up from small to large animal models. This study utilizes a slow-degrading electrospun PCL sheath to reinforce a tissue engineered arterials graft. Pore size, a property critical to tissue regeneration, was controlled by changing PCL fiber diameter and the resulting effects of these properties on neotissue formation and graft durability was evaluated. This study is among few to report the effect of pore size on vascular neotissue formation in a large animal arterial model and also demonstrate robust neotissue formation.
To perform a pilot study to quantitatively assess cognitive, vestibular, and physiological function during and after exposure to a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system with a static field strength of 10.5 Tesla at multiple time scales.
A total of 29 subjects were exposed to a 10.5T MRI field and underwent vestibular, cognitive, and physiological testing before, during, and after exposure; for 26 subjects, testing and exposure were repeated within 2-4weeks of the first visit. Subjects also reported sensory perceptions after each exposure. Comparisons were made between short and long term time points in the study with respect to the parameters measured in the study; short term comparison included pre-vs-isocenter and pre-vs-post (1-24h), while long term compared pre-exposures 2-4weeks apart.
Of the 79 comparisons, 73 parameters were unchanged or had small improvements after magnet exposure. The exceptions to this included lower scores on short term (i.e. same day) executive function testing, greater isexposure indicate that 1) cognitive performance is not compromised at isocenter, 2) subjects experience increased eye movement at isocenter, and 3) subjects experience small changes in vital signs but no field-induced increase in blood pressure. While small but significant differences were found in some comparisons, none were identified as compromising subject safety. A modified testing protocol informed by these results was devised with the goal of permitting increased enrollment while providing continued monitoring to evaluate field effects.Multicenter magnetic resonance imaging is gaining more popularity in large-sample projects. Since both varying hardware and software across different centers cause unavoidable data heterogeneity across centers, its impact on reliability in study outcomes has also drawn **** attention recently. One fundamental issue arises in how to derive model parameters reliably from image data of varying quality. This issue is even more challenging for advanced diffusion methods such as diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI). Recently, deep learning-based methods have been demonstrated with their potential for robust and efficient computation of diffusion-derived measures. Inspired by these approaches, the current study specifically designed a framework based on a three-dimensional hierarchical convolutional neural network, to jointly reconstruct and harmonize DKI measures from multicenter acquisition to reformulate these to a state-of-the-art hardware using data from traveling subjects. The results from the harmonized data acquired with different protocols show that 1) the inter-scanner variation of DKI measures within white matter was reduced by 51.5% in mean kurtosis, 65.9% in axial kurtosis, 53.7% in radial kurtosis, and 61.5% in kurtosis fractional anisotropy, respectively; 2) data reliability of each single scanner was enhanced and brought to the level of the reference scanner; and 3) the harmonization network was able to reconstruct reliable DKI values from high data variability. Overall the results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed deep learning-based method for DKI harmonization and help to simplify the protocol setup procedure for multicenter scanners with different hardware and software configurations.Although the mechanisms that control growth are now well understood, the mechanism by which animals assess their body size remains one of the great puzzles in biology. The threshold size was found to change depending on the amount of exposure to poor nutrient conditions whereas hypoxia treatment consistently led to a lower threshold size. Under these various conditions, the mass of the muscles plus integuments was correlated with the threshold size.
