Sibling oocytes were randomly and equally assigned into the closed group (oocytes vitrified in a closed system) or the open group (oocytes vitrified in an open system). Intracytoplasmic sperm injection was performed on all cases. Embryo transfers were performed on day 5. Power analysis calculation showed that 94 cycles would be needed for each group in the study in order to achieve statistical significance at a 5% level with power 80%. RESULTS The final number of donors included was 95. A total of 190 recipients matched with their donors were included in the study. There was no difference in the mean number of oocytes vitrified with the closed or the open system (8.26 ± 2.54 vs. 8.31 ± 2.57). No significant difference was observed between the 2 groups regarding survival rate, fertilization rate, cleavage rate, top-quality embryos on day 3, blastocyst rate, and top-quality blastocyst rate. Moreover, no statistically significant difference in the b-human chorionic gonadotropin-positive rate, clinical pregnancy rate per cycle, implantation rate, ongoing pregnancy rate, and live birth rate between closed and open groups. This difference was not significant, nor was there a statistical difference in RS between diabetic patients taking metformin (median RS = 15) and diabetic patients not taking metformin (median RS = 15). These results held true even when controlling for BMI. METHODS Validation of FFQ formed by 11 food groups and 136 food and beverage items was performed on 40-65-year-old Mexican women (n = 200) by applying 2 FFQ (test method) and six 24-h dietary recalls (24hR, reference method; 1 per season on weekdays and 2 on weekends). Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated of both logs, transformed intakes and energy-adjusted nutrient intakes based on the residual method, and intraclass correlation coefficients were calculated. RESULTS The relative validity of FFQ against the average of six 24hR for intakes of energy, macronutrients, cholesterol, water, vitamins and minerals required for bone metabolism such as vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus were obtained. Pearson coefficients of correlation show significance (p less then 0.05) for the validity, 0.244-0.820 and 0.258-0.794, for energy-unadjusted and adjusted data, respectively. Reproducibility coefficients range 0.186-0.810 for energy-unadjusted data and 0.174-0.597 for energy-adjusted data. Most nutrients showed lower than 5% of misclassification. CONCLUSION The designed 136-item FFQ shows acceptable validity and reproducibility, and it is useful to be applied on 40-65-year-old Mexican women for the estimation of nutrient intakes in epidemiological studies. © 2020 S. OBJECTIVE To evaluate endocervicoscopy accuracy to identify and grade cervical intraepithelial lesion in comparison to other procedures employed into the diagnostic workup of cervical pathology. METHODS A total of 634 women who performed colposcopy, endocervicoscopy and cytological or histological sampling were included in a retrospective study. The agreement between the endocervicoscopic and the colposcopic impressions, minor and major changes, and between these imaging techniques and histological diagnosis was assessed for the entire cohort. χ2 test and k statistic were used in the statistical analysis.

  • The detection site of nitrobenzene in framework 1 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, [Zn3(TTPA)2(DHTP)3]·(H2O)(DMF)(2NB) or 1 ⊂ NB. In addition, the inclusion of nitrobenzene into the framework 1 stabilized the disordered molecules via strong hydrogen bonding. These findings indicate that versatile MOFs with multifunctional properties can be realized via a systematic design.Topological defects, such as vortices and skyrmions, provide a wealth of splendid possibilities for new nanoscale devices because of their marvelous electronic, magnetic, and mechanical behaviors. Recently, great advances have been made in the study of the ferroelectric vortex in conventional perovskite oxides, such as BaTiO3 and BiFeO3. Despite extensive interest, however, no intriguing ferroelectric vortex structures have yet been found in organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (OIHPs), which are desirable for their mechanical flexibility, ease of fabrication, and low acoustical impedance. We observed the robust vortex-antivortex topological configurations in a two-dimensional (2D) layered OIHP ferroelectric (4,4-DFPD)2PbI4 (4,4-DFPD is 4,4-difluoropiperidinium). This provides future directions for the study of perovskites and makes it a promising alternative for nanoscale ferroelectric devices in medical, micromechanical, and biomechanical applications.The ability to predict tandem mass (MS/MS) spectra from peptide sequences can significantly enhance our understanding of the peptide fragmentation process and could improve peptide identification in proteomics. However, current approaches for predicting high-energy collisional dissociation (HCD) spectra are limited to predict the intensities of expected ion types, that is, the a/****x/y/z ions and their neutral loss derivatives (referred to as backbone ions). In practice, backbone ions only account for less then 70% of total ion intensities in HCD spectra, indicating many intense ions are ignored by current predictors. In this paper, we present a deep learning approach that can predict the complete spectra (both backbone and nonbackbone ions) directly from peptide sequences. We made no assumptions or expectations on which kind of ions to predict but instead predicting the intensities for all possible m/z. Training this model needs no annotations of fragment ion nor any prior knowledge of the fragmentation rules. Our analyses show that the predicted 2+ and 3+ HCD spectra are highly similar to the experimental spectra, with average full-spectrum cosine similarities of 0.820 (±0.088) and 0.786 (±0.085), respectively, very close to the similarities between the experimental replicated spectra. In contrast, the best-performed backbone only models can only achieve an average similarity below 0.75 and 0.70 for 2+ and 3+ spectra, respectively. Furthermore, we developed a multitask learning (MTL) approach for predicting spectra of insufficient training samples, which allows our model to make accurate predictions for electron transfer dissociation (ETD) spectra and HCD spectra of less abundant charges (1+ and 4+).Recent DFT calculations have suggested that iron nitrosyl triarylcorrole complexes have substantial FeNO7-corrole•2- character. To meet the need for low lasing thresholds and high fidelity fabrication methods, we use correlative optical and electron microscopy to uncover the nanoparticle assembly process and structural factors that determine efficient upconverted lasing. We show that 5 μm microspheres with controlled submonolayer UCNP coatings exhibit, on average, 25-fold lower laser thresholds (1.7 ± 0.7 kW/cm2) compared to the mean values of the lowest threshold UCNP lasers, and variability is reduced 30-fold. WGMs are observed in the upconversion spectra for TiO2-coated microspheres as small as 3 μm, a size at which optical losses had previously prevented such observations. Finally, we demonstrate that the WGM signatures of these upconverting microlasers can be imaged and distinguished through tissue-mimicking phantoms. These advances will enable the fabrication of more efficient upconverting lasers for imaging, sensing, and actuation in optically complex environments.Unlike supramolecular self-assembly methods that can organize many distinct components into designer shapes in a homogeneous solution (e.g., DNA origami), only relatively simple, symmetric structures consisting of a few distinct components have been self-assembled at solid surfaces. To gain a mechanistic understanding of the roles of the surface environment in DNA origami self-assembly, here we studied the oligonucleotide-assisted folding of a long single-stranded DNA (ssDNA scaffold) that was end-tethered to a dynamic surface, which could actively regulate the DNA-surface interactions. The results showed that even weak surface attractions can lead to defective structures by inhibiting the merging of multiple domains into complete structures. A combination of surface anchoring and deliberate regulation of DNA-surface interactions allowed us to depart from the existing paradigm of surface confinement via nonspecific interactions and enabled DNA origami folding to proceed in a solution-like environment.

Retrospectively registered.BACKGROUND It is generally assumed that there have been mixed results in the literature regarding the association between ambient particulate matter (PM) and myocardial infarction (MI). The aim of this meta-analysis was to explore the rate of short-term exposure PM with aerodynamic diameters ≤2.5 μm (PM2.5) and examine its potential effect(s) on the risk of MI. METHODS A systematic search was conducted on databases like PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase with components "air pollution" and "myocardial infarction". The summary relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were also calculated to assess the association between the PM2.5 and MI. RESULTS Twenty-six published studies were ultimately identified as eligible candidates for the meta-analysis of MI until Jun 1, 2018. The results illustrated that a 10-μg/m 3 increase in PM2.5 was associated with the risk of MI (RR = 1.02; 95% CI 1.01-1.03; P ≤ 0.0001). The heterogeneity of the studies was assessed through a random-effects model with p  less then  0.0001 and the I2 was 69.52%, indicating a moderate degree of heterogeneity. Then SUPV3L1 and SLC22A17 were identified as hub genes which may affect immune cell infiltration by correlation analysis. Survival analysis further proved that hub genes and prognostic immune cells are associated with the prognosis of gastric cancer. In gastrointestinal tumors, hub genes and prognostic immune cells also found differences in non-tumor and tumor tissues. CONCLUSIONS We found that three immune cells infiltration are associated with the prognosis of gastric cancer and further identify two hub genes. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the risk of intrapartum maternal fever with RPCA compared with EA alone or EA in combination with spinal analgesia during labor were included. RESULTS A total of 825 studies were screened, and 6 RCTs including 3341 patients were identified. Compared with EA, RPCA was associated with a significantly lower incidence of intrapartum maternal fever (risk ratio [RR] 0.48, P = 0.02, I2 = 49%) during labor analgesia. After excluding 2 trials via the heterogeneity analysis, there was no difference in the incidence of intrapartum fever between patients receiving RPCA and those receiving EA. Satisfaction with pain relief during labor was lower in the RPCA group than that in the EA group (- 10.6 [13.87, - 7.44], P  less then  0.00001, I2 = 0%). The incidence of respiratory depression was significantly greater in the RPCA group than that in the EA group (risk ratio 2.86 [1.65, 4.96], P = 0.0002, I2 = 58%). The aim of this meta-analysis was to explore the rate of short-term exposure PM with aerodynamic diameters ≤2.5 μm (PM2.5) and examine its potential effect(s) on the risk of MI. METHODS A systematic search was conducted on databases like PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase with components "air pollution" and "myocardial infarction". The summary relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were also calculated to assess the association between the PM2.5 and MI. RESULTS Twenty-six published studies were ultimately identified as eligible candidates for the meta-analysis of MI until Jun 1, 2018. The results illustrated that a 10-μg/m 3 increase in PM2.5 was associated with the risk of MI (RR = 1.02; 95% CI 1.01-1.03; P ≤ 0.0001). The heterogeneity of the studies was assessed through a random-effects model with p  less then  0.0001 and the I2 was 69.52%, indicating a moderate degree of heterogeneity.   • Controlling coherence and interference of quantum states is one of the central goals in quantum science. Different from energetically discrete quantum states, however, it remains a demanding task to visualize coherent properties of degenerate states (e.g., magnetic sublevels). It becomes further inaccessible in the absence of an external perturbation (e.g., Zeeman effect). Here, we present a theoretical analysis of all-optical control of degenerate magnetic states in the molecular hydrogen ion, $ \rm H_2^ + $H2+, by using two time-delayed co- and counterrotating circularly polarized attosecond extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) pulses. We perform accurate simulations to examine this model by solving the three-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation. A counterintuitive phenomenon of quantum interference between degenerate magnetic sublevels appears in the time-dependent electronic probability density, which is observable by using x-ray-induced transient angular and energy-resolved photoelectron spectra. This work provides an insight into quantum interference of electron dynamics inside molecules at the quantum degeneracy level.We present a versatile ultrafast holmium-doped fiber laser with an intracavity Martinez compressor. The compressor enables continuous dispersion control, spectral filtering, and dual-color operation of the laser. Mode locking is supported for net cavity dispersion values ranging from highly anomalous (-1.42ps2) to net normal (0.3ps2), and wavelength tuning of the optical solitons is obtained in a 2021-2096 nm span. Dual-color pulsed operation of the laser is reached by implementing a mechanical bandstop filter within the compressor. The repetition rate offset of the two emitted frequency combs can be tuned in a 3-8 kHz range by adjusting the net cavity dispersion, or by changing the beam block diameter. We show that a relatively simple fiber resonator integrated with a Martinez compressor can serve as a highly tunable laser source.To overcome the resolution limits in laser processing technologies, it is highly attractive to translate concepts used in advanced optical microscopy. In this prospect, the nonlinear nature of absorption in dielectrics with femtosecond lasers is recurrently taken as a direct advantage in an analogous way to excitation in multiphoton microscopy. However, we establish that no direct benefit in resolution can be expected when laser ablation is observed. We explore widely different nonlinear regimes using ultrashort pulses at different wavelengths (1550 and 515 nm) and target materials of various bandgaps (3.8-8.8 eV). We find in the experiments that the shapes of all ablation features correspond to a one-to-one mapping of the beam contours at a strict threshold intensity. The nonlinearity-independent response shows that the incorporation of extreme UV should provide a direct route to the nanoscale resolutions routinely achieved in lithography.A theoretical formalism is presented to describe coupling of an electromagnetic field into the modes of a planar waveguide, where the electromagnetic field has a non-uniform transverse profile and is incident at an arbitrary angle. The method employs lithography and wet etching of cleave marks outside the active III-V waveguides. The marks follow a specific crystallographic orientation and are used to initiate and guide the cleaving process. The gratings consist of V-shaped grooves alongside a 1.5 µm wide p-contact stripe fabricated by using electron-beam lithography and plasma etching. By varying the period of the Bragg grating, the lasing wavelength could be adjusted between 404.8 and 408.5 nm. The feasibility of this device concept was confirmed by mode-hop-free operation up to an optical output power of 90 mW, a low temperature sensitivity of the lasing wavelength, and a Gaussian lateral far-field distribution.We report efficient lasing of the isotropic $\rm Tm^3 + \!\!\rm KY_3\rm F_10$Tm3+KY3F10 crystal near 2.3 µm via upconversion pumping with a 1064 nm ytterbium fiber laser as the pump source. When pumped at 1064 nm, an x-cavity $\rm Tm^3 + \!\!\rm KY_3\rm F_10$Tm3+KY3F10 laser operated at the free-running wavelength of 2344 nm. Lasing was obtained with output couplers having transmissions in the range of 1-3%, and as high as 124 mW of continuous-wave (cw) output power was generated with 604 mW of absorbed pump power by using the 3% output coupler. Broadly tunable cw lasing could be obtained in the 2268-2373 nm wavelength range. An analysis of the experimental power efficiency data shows that nearly all of the absorbed pump photons were converted to 2.3 µm laser output after accounting for the quantum defect of the laser transition and resonator losses. We expect that higher lasing efficiency should be possible by using longer crystals to increase the pump absorption.

Human ferritin has been used extensively as a nanocarrier for the delivery of drugs and imaging agents to cancerous tumor cells both in vitro and in vivo. We report exploitation of the native properties of ferritin, which can be co-loaded with simple forms of iron (FeOOH) and arsenic (arsenate) in place of the native phosphate. The As(III) form arsenic trioxide has been successfully used to treat one blood cancer, but has so far proven too systemically toxic for use on solid tumors in the clinic. The As(V) form, arsenate, on the other hand, while **** less systemically toxic upon bolus injection has also proven ineffective for cancer therapy. We extended the C-terminal ends of the human ferritin subunits with a tumor cell receptor targeting peptide and loaded this modified ferritin with ~ 800 arsenates and ~ 1100 irons. Our results demonstrate targeting and uptake of the iron, arsenate-loaded modified human ferritin by breast cancer cells. At the same arsenic levels, the cytotoxicity of the iron, arsenate-loaded human ferritin was equivalent to that of free arsenic trioxide and **** greater than that of free arsenate. The iron-only loaded human ferritin was not cytotoxic at the highest achievable doses. The results are consistent with the receptor-targeted human ferritin delivering arsenate as a reductively activated 'prodrug'. This targeted delivery could be readily adapted to treat other types of solid tumor cancers.PURPOSE A retrospective analysis was carried out to compare the results of patch repair using ready-made, synthetic mesh (PR) and sutured repair (SR) based on standard protocols. We report exploitation of the native properties of ferritin, which can be co-loaded with simple forms of iron (FeOOH) and arsenic (arsenate) in place of the native phosphate. The As(III) form arsenic trioxide has been successfully used to treat one blood cancer, but has so far proven too systemically toxic for use on solid tumors in the clinic. The As(V) form, arsenate, on the other hand, while much less systemically toxic upon bolus injection has also proven ineffective for cancer therapy. We extended the C-terminal ends of the human ferritin subunits with a tumor cell receptor targeting peptide and loaded this modified ferritin with ~ 800 arsenates and ~ 1100 irons. Our results demonstrate targeting and uptake of the iron, arsenate-loaded modified human ferritin by breast cancer cells. At the same arsenic levels, the cytotoxicity of the iron, arsenate-loaded human ferritin was equivalent to that of free arsenic trioxide and much greater than that of free arsenate. The iron-only loaded human ferritin was not cytotoxic at the highest achievable doses. The results are consistent with the receptor-targeted human ferritin delivering arsenate as a reductively activated 'prodrug'.   • Reference dosimetry in the presence of a strong magnetic field is challenging. Ionisation chambers have shown to be strongly affected by magnetic fields. There is a need for robust and stable detectors in MRI-guided radiotherapy (MRIgRT). This study investigates the behaviour of the alanine dosimeter in magnetic fields and assess its suitability to act as a reference detector in MRIgRT. Alanine pellets were loaded in a waterproof holder, placed in an electromagnet and irradiated by60Co and 6 MV and 8 MV linac beams over a range of magnetic flux densities. Monte Carlo simulations were performed to calculate the absorbed dose, to water and to alanine, with and without magnetic fields. Combining measurements with simulations, the effect of magnetic fields on alanine response was quantified and a correction factor for the presence of magnetic fields on alanine was determined. This study finds that the response of alanine to ionising radiation is modified when the irradiation is in the presence of a magnetic field. The effect is energy independent and may increase the alanine/EPR signal by 0.2% at 0.35 T and 0.7% at 1.5 T. In alanine dosimetry for MRIgRT, this effect, if left uncorrected, would lead to an overestimate of dose. Accordingly, a correction factor, kQB,Q, is defined. Values are obtained for this correction as a function of magnetic flux density, with a standard uncertainty which depends on the magnetic field and is 0.6% or less. The strong magnetic field has a measurable effect on alanine dosimetry. For alanine which is used to measure absorbed dose to water in a strong magnetic field, but which has been calibrated in the absence of a magnetic field, a small correction to the reported dose is required. With the inclusion of this correction, alanine/EPR is a suitable reference dosimeter for measurements in MRIgRT. Lately, many new studies have been conducted that draw attention to the relationship between Alzheimer's disease and gut microbiota. This review presents a possible relationship between Alzheimer's disease and a microbiome. It is a promising idea for prevention or therapeutic intervention. In this study, we investigate this opposition by examining support for Christian hegemony (i.e., the idea that Christianity should be the norm and Christians should be in power in the United States) and unawareness of Christian privilege (i.e., unearned advantages for Christians) as religiopolitical variables that help to explain the association between Christian and political conservatism and opposition to a host of SGM rights (same-sex marriage, same-sex adoption, nondiscrimination policies in jobs and housing for SGMs, and bills regarding transgender public bathroom use). Based on structural equation modeling analysis with heterosexual cisgender Christian (n = 688) and Areligious (n = 327) students, we demonstrate that support for Christian hegemony and unawareness of Christian privilege help to explain the association between Christian and political conservatism and opposition to SGM rights. These findings advance our understanding of a new type of religious-based variable focused on religious power and privilege to help understand conservative religious and political opposition to SGM rights. The Lifestyle Interventions and Independence for Elders (LIFE) studies were developed to assess whether initiating physical activity could prevent major mobility disability (MMD) in sedentary older adults. METHODS We review the development and selected findings of the LIFE studies from 2000 through 2019, including the planning phase, the LIFE-Pilot Study, and the LIFE Study. RESULTS The planning phase and the LIFE-Pilot provided key information for the successful implementation of the LIFE Study. The LIFE Study, involving 1635 participants randomized at eight sites throughout the United States, showed that compared with health education, the physical activity program reduced the risk of the primary outcome of MMD (inability to walk 400 m hazard ratio = 0.82; 95% confidence interval = 0.69-0.98; P = .03), and that the intervention was cost-effective. There were no significant effects on cognitive outcomes, cardiovascular events, or serious fall injuries. In addition, the LIFE studies provided relevant findings on a broad range of other outcomes, including health, frailty, behavioral outcomes, biomarkers, and imaging. To date, the LIFE studies have generated a legacy of 109 peer-reviewed publications, 19 ancillary studies, and 38 independently funded grants and clinical trials, and advanced the development of 59 early career scientists. Data and biological samples of the LIFE Study are now publicly available from a repository sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (https//agingresearchbiobank.nia.nih.gov). The study investigated how having a sibling with health problems affects a healthy sibling's academic achievement. METHODS We utilized medical and social microdata from Swedish administrative population registers. Our sample consisted of N = 115,106 individuals (51.3% boys) born in 1990 in Sweden. We compared children with ill siblings to children whose siblings did not have poor health. Siblings' hospital admissions and the academic achievements of the healthy sibling during their final year of compulsory education (at the age of 15-16) were analyzed using linear and logistic regression in relation to individual health- and family-related confounders. RESULTS Sibling hospitalization was significantly associated with lower overall grade points (β = -10.73, p  less then  .001) and an increased odds ratio (OR) of ineligibility for upper secondary education (OR = 1.42, 95% confidence interval = 1.31-1.52, p  less then  .001). CONCLUSIONS School and health personnel should also consider the needs of healthy siblings during their work with children in poor health, because they too can be disadvantaged. © 2020 The Authors. In this study, we investigate this opposition by examining support for Christian hegemony (i.e., the idea that Christianity should be the norm and Christians should be in power in the United States) and unawareness of Christian privilege (i.e., unearned advantages for Christians) as religiopolitical variables that help to explain the association between Christian and political conservatism and opposition to a host of SGM rights (same-sex marriage, same-sex adoption, nondiscrimination policies in jobs and housing for SGMs, and bills regarding transgender public bathroom use). Based on structural equation modeling analysis with heterosexual cisgender Christian (n = 688) and Areligious (n = 327) students, we demonstrate that support for Christian hegemony and unawareness of Christian privilege help to explain the association between Christian and political conservatism and opposition to SGM rights. These findings advance our understanding of a new type of religious-based variable focused on religious power and privilege to help understand conservative religious and political opposition to SGM rights. Limitations, implications, and directions for future research also are discussed. © 2020 Society for Community Research and Action.BACKGROUND Walking independently is basic to human functioning. The Lifestyle Interventions and Independence for Elders (LIFE) studies were developed to assess whether initiating physical activity could prevent major mobility disability (MMD) in sedentary older adults. METHODS We review the development and selected findings of the LIFE studies from 2000 through 2019, including the planning phase, the LIFE-Pilot Study, and the LIFE Study. RESULTS The planning phase and the LIFE-Pilot provided key information for the successful implementation of the LIFE Study. The LIFE Study, involving 1635 participants randomized at eight sites throughout the United States, showed that compared with health education, the physical activity program reduced the risk of the primary outcome of MMD (inability to walk 400 m hazard ratio = 0.82; 95% confidence interval = 0.69-0.98; P = .03), and that the intervention was cost-effective. There were no significant effects on cognitive outcomes, cardiovascular events, or serious fall injuries. In addition, the LIFE studies provided relevant findings on a broad range of other outcomes, including health, frailty, behavioral outcomes, biomarkers, and imaging. To date, the LIFE studies have generated a legacy of 109 peer-reviewed publications, 19 ancillary studies, and 38 independently funded grants and clinical trials, and advanced the development of 59 early career scientists. Data and biological samples of the LIFE Study are now publicly available from a repository sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (https//agingresearchbiobank.nia.nih.gov). The study investigated how having a sibling with health problems affects a healthy sibling's academic achievement. METHODS We utilized medical and social microdata from Swedish administrative population registers. Our sample consisted of N = 115,106 individuals (51.3% boys) born in 1990 in Sweden. We compared children with ill siblings to children whose siblings did not have poor health. Siblings' hospital admissions and the academic achievements of the healthy sibling during their final year of compulsory education (at the age of 15-16) were analyzed using linear and logistic regression in relation to individual health- and family-related confounders. RESULTS Sibling hospitalization was significantly associated with lower overall grade points (β = -10.73, p  less then  .001) and an increased odds ratio (OR) of ineligibility for upper secondary education (OR = 1.42, 95% confidence interval = 1.31-1.52, p  less then  .001). CONCLUSIONS School and health personnel should also consider the needs of healthy siblings during their work with children in poor health, because they too can be disadvantaged. © 2020 The Authors. Colorimetric and photoluminescence (PL) investigations of Fe(II)-MOF-NPs were also carried out. The specific coordination binding between the Hg(II) and amino groups of the MOF led to an enhancement of the PL and the absorbance intensities. Therefore, Hg(II) concentrations could be determined quantitatively. A fast, sensitive, and selective method of mercury ion detection based on colorimetric and PL chemosensors using Fe(II)-MOF-NPs was developed. At optimal conditions, the PL and colorimetric chemosensors exhibited stable responses for Hg(II) in a concentration range of 1.0 nM to 1.0 μM with detection limits (LOD) = 1.17 and 1.14 nM and quantification limits (LOQ) = 1.59 and 1.48 nM, respectively. The developed PL and colorimetric chemosensors exhibited high selectivity towards Hg(II) over the other competing metal ions. Moreover, both ultrasensitive chemosensors were further investigated for determination of Hg(II) in different water sources (tap, mineral, river, sea, and wastewater) as well as in biological samples (blood serum and urine samples), with satisfactory recoveries. Previous studies have demonstrated that only a small proportion of fracture patients initiate therapy with an anti-osteoporotic medication (AOM), despite the proven fracture risk reduction of such therapies. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the changes in this post-fracture treatment gap across three different countries from 2005 to 2015. METHODS This analysis, which is part of a multinational cohort study, included men and women, aged 50 years or older, sustaining a first incident fragility fracture. Using routinely collected patient data from three administrative health databases covering Catalonia, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, we estimated the treatment gap as the proportion of patients not treated with AOM within 1 year of their first incident fracture. RESULTS A total of 648,369 fracture patients were included. Mean age 70.2-78.9 years; 22.2-31.7% were men. In Denmark, the treatment gap was stable at approximately 88-90% throughout the 2005 to 2015 time period. In Catalonia, the treatment gap increased from 80 to 88%. In the UK, an initially decreasing treatment gap-though never smaller than 63%-was replaced by an increasing gap towards the end of our study. The gap was more pronounced in men than in women. CONCLUSION Despite repeated calls for improved secondary fracture prevention, an unacceptably large treatment gap remains, with time trends indicating that the problem may be getting worse in recent years.This paper reports our personal experience filling the gap regarding changes of bone mineral density after surgical treatment in patient suffering from tumor-induced osteomalacia. INTRODUCTION No systematic data are available regarding long-term bone mineral density (BMD) changes after surgical cure of patients with tumor-induced osteomalacia. METHODS From October 2001 through April 2018, we studied 10 consecutive patients (mean age ± SD, 45.5 ± 13.8 years; 5 males and 5 females) with tumor-induced osteomalacia. We evaluated BMD when initially presented at our Center and after surgical removal of the tumor. RESULTS Basal BMD and corresponding Z-score values (mean values ± SD) measured by DXA were as follows L1-L4 = 0.692 ± 0.15 g/cm2, Z-score = - 2.80 ± 1.60; femur neck 0.447 ± 0.10 g/cm2, Z-score = - 2.66 ± 0.93; total femur = 0.450 ± 0.08 g/cm2, Z-score = -3.04 ± 0.85). Furthermore, Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) was evaluated in three patients (basal values, 0.990 ± 0.32). The results confirmed the existence of a long-run equilibrium relationship between the outlined series within the period under investigation, with a high speed of convergence. The ARDL equilibrium relationship shows that coal consumption is the largest emitter of carbon dioxide emissions in both short- (0.77%) and long-run (0.86%). Economic growth was found to escalate CO2 emission by approximately 0.27% (in the short-run) and 0.19% (in the long-run). The Granger causality test indicates a non-causal effect between FDI inflow and economic expansion in South Africa, which implies that FDI is not a driver of economic advancement. The empirical study shows a bidirectional causal effect between urbanization and foreign direct investment. This suggests that urban development stimulates foreign direct investment in South Africa. The findings reveal a one-way link from GDP to coal consumption, suggesting economic prosperity promotes coal consumption. The eligibility criteria included studies with (1) interventions of any indoor plant, excluding biofilters that combine power facilities and vegetation, (2) comparators included within the same experimental treatment or between different experimental treatments, (3) air quality effects objectively measured using any instrument, and (4) any study design. A pot trial was carried out to investigate the effects of the dissolvable fraction of biochar in the Yangtze River estuary, China. Soil in plastic pots was incorporated with straw biochar at five different rates 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% (w/wet weight). The rice height, tiller number, and grain yield were recorded; soils and surface water were sampled, and key chemical properties were investigated. Rice grain yield was improved by 29.1-34.2%, and the grain-to-straw ratio was promoted by 8.0-26.1% in the treatments with 10-15% biochar incorporated compared with the control. Soil total organic carbon and total nitrogen contents increased 65.7-242.8% and 22.9-75.3% in the biochar-amended treatments, respectively. Meanwhile, the soil dissolved organic carbon contents increased by 13.4-25.3% in biochar-amended treatments. Higher amounts of added biochar resulted in increased soil electrical conductivity but had no significant effect on soil pH. The major anion was Cl-, and the main cations were K+ and Na+ in the mudflat soil. A 3-year monitoring program (six batches from August 2015 to March 2017) was implemented, and thirty sampling points were selected along the river for analysis. The analysis was executed using a previously developed and optimized solid-phase micro-extraction (SPME) gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. Statistical analysis, using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kruskal-Wallis, and Dunnet T3 multiple comparison tests, was applied to compare mean concentrations of pesticides between the different sampling sites and the batches taken. The pesticides that had the highest frequency of detection in the surface and groundwater samples were alachlor, α-endosulfan, and methomyl. For surface water samples, high mean concentrations were perceived for two stations in the upper stream (S5 and S7), two stations (S11 and S14) in the middle stream, and one station (S16) in the lower stream of the river.

Soil in plastic pots was incorporated with straw biochar at five different rates 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% (w/wet weight). The rice height, tiller number, and grain yield were recorded; soils and surface water were sampled, and key chemical properties were investigated. Rice grain yield was improved by 29.1-34.2%, and the grain-to-straw ratio was promoted by 8.0-26.1% in the treatments with 10-15% biochar incorporated compared with the control. Soil total organic carbon and total nitrogen contents increased 65.7-242.8% and 22.9-75.3% in the biochar-amended treatments, respectively. Meanwhile, the soil dissolved organic carbon contents increased by 13.4-25.3% in biochar-amended treatments. Higher amounts of added biochar resulted in increased soil electrical conductivity but had no significant effect on soil pH. The major anion was Cl-, and the main cations were K+ and Na+ in the mudflat soil. Another important application of MOFs composite discussed in this review is sensor materials for environmental pollution.The objective of this study is to assess the occurrence, spatial, and temporal distribution of forty-eight multiclass pesticides in surface and groundwater samples of the Abou Ali River, located in the North of Lebanon. A 3-year monitoring program (six batches from August 2015 to March 2017) was implemented, and thirty sampling points were selected along the river for analysis. The analysis was executed using a previously developed and optimized solid-phase micro-extraction (SPME) gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. Statistical analysis, using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kruskal-Wallis, and Dunnet T3 multiple comparison tests, was applied to compare mean concentrations of pesticides between the different sampling sites and the batches taken. The pesticides that had the highest frequency of detection in the surface and groundwater samples were alachlor, α-endosulfan, and methomyl. For surface water samples, high mean concentrations were perceived for two stations in the upper stream (S5 and S7), two stations (S11 and S14) in the middle stream, and one station (S16) in the lower stream of the river.

Methods We studied 76 patients with refractory IHs. After more than one month of insufficient oral propranolol therapy, forty-four patients received additional treatment of prednisone, while thirty-two patients continued to receive beta-adrenergic receptor antagonists monotherapy. The response to treatment was assessed according to hemangioma score values. Results The outcomes of patients after combined treatment were significantly better than those with monotherapy of beta-adrenergic receptor antagonists. The age to initiate prednisone was significantly negatively correlated with the improvement in the combination treatment group. The age at initiate treatment showed significant correlation with score variation percentage in both groups. There was no significant difference in the treatment duration observed between the two groups. Multivariable logistic regression analysis for all patients showed prednisone administration was the most important factor to better overall outcomes. Conclusions Short-term addition of low-dose oral prednisone is an effective and safe adjunctive treatment for oral propranolol in contributing to refractory IH. The full-length sequences of HLA-E and HLA-G genes were amplified by long-range high-fidelity PCR, and the third exon of the HLA-E gene and the coding region of the HLA-G gene were sequenced. Results The allele frequency of HLA-E*0103 in patients with PSS was significantly higher than that in the control group (P=0.017, corrected P=0.034, OR =1.66). The genotype frequencies of HLA-E*0101/0103 and HLA-E*0103/0103 in the PSS group were significantly higher than that in the control group (P=0.027, OR =2.62; P=0.011, OR =3.05; respectively). There were no significant differences in the frequency of HLA-G alleles and genotypes between the two groups (all P>0.05). Method An aGVHD model was built by transferring splenocytes of B6 **** into B6D2F1 ****. 1α,25(OH)2D3 was added to evaluate the protective function to aGVHD; the phenotype and cytokine expression profile of spleen cells from the aGVHD model were determined using flow cytometry 2 weeks after the model is established. Result Administration of 1α,25(OH)2D3 significantly slowed aGVHD progression and improved survival of B6D2F1 recipients of grafted B6 splenocytes. 1α,25(OH)2D3 treatment also resulted in an increased number of CD4+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) but decreased the number of CD4+IL-4+ cells. In vitro analysis demonstrated that 1α,25(OH)2D3 directly increased forkhead box P3 (Foxp3) and IL-10 expression and enhanced the function of induced Tregs (iTregs). Short-term clinical outcomes were examined. Factors related to length of postoperative hospitalization (LPH) was analyzed. Results Endoscope provided highly accurate information on the condition of anastomosis leakage. And there was no evidence that early endoscopy could cause damage to the anastomosis or gastric conduit.   • The nociceptive transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) ion channel is a polymodal receptor for multiple painful stimuli, hence actively pursued as a target for analgesic drugs. We identified a small peptide toxin RhTx2 from the Chinese red-headed centipede that strongly modulates TRPV1 activities. RhTx2, a 31-amino-acid peptide, is similar to a TRPV1-activating toxin RhTx we have previously discovered but with four extra amino acids at the N terminus. We observed that, like RhTx, RhTx2 activated TRPV1, but RhTx2 rapidly desensitized the channel upon prolonged exposure. Desensitization was achieved by reducing both the open probability and the single-channel conductance. RhTx2 is not only a tool to study the desensitization mechanism of TRPV1, but also a promising starting molecule for developing novel analgesics. The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, is the first insect to develop resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) in the field. To date, little is known about the molecular mechanism of the interaction between Bt and midgut immunity in P. xylostella. Here, we report immune responses in the P. xylostella midgut to Bt strain Bt8010 using a combined approach of transcriptomics and quantitative proteomics. Many genes in the Toll, IMD, JNK and JAK-STAT pathways and antimicrobial peptide genes were activated at 18 h post-infection. In the prophenoloxidase (PPO) cascade, four serpin genes were activated, and the PPO1 gene was suppressed by Bt8010. Inhibition of the two PPO proteins was observed at 18 h post-infection. Feeding Bt8010-infected larvae recombinant PPOs enhanced their survival. These results revealed that the Toll, IMD, JNK and JAK-STAT pathways were triggered and participated in the immune defence of the midgut against Bt8010, while the PPO cascade was inhibited and played an important role in this process. Pesticides exposure can have harmful effects on human health. The liver is the most common organ of pesticides toxicity due to its major metabolic activity. The molecular mechanism of pesticides effect is complex and is controlled by gene regulatory networks. All components of regulatory networks are controlled by transcription factors and other regulatory elements. Therefore, identification of key regulators through system biology approaches and high-throughput techniques can help to provide comprehensive insights into molecular mechanisms of the pesticide effect. In the current study, a microarray data-set was used to potentially identify molecular mechanisms that regulate gene expression profile of rat hepatocyte cell lines in response to pesticides exposure. There is an urgent need to explore the potential molecular markers which can improve the prognosis of the disease. Histone demethylases have emerged as a powerful tool for cancer prognosis and therapeutics during the last decade. The implications of demethylases of histone 3 lysine 4 (H3K4) in ccRCC are however unrevealed. We therefore evaluated the expression of H3K4 demethylases in ccRCC, with emphasis on their clinical significance as a prognostic marker. METHODS Total 50 histopathological confirmed cases of ccRCC were enrolled in the study. The expression of seven H3K4 demethylases was determined by Real-Time PCR using gene specific primers and correlated with tumor stage, grade and metastasis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the prognostic significance of H3K4 demethylases. RESULTS The median age of the patients was 54 years with predominance of male patients by 2.6-fold. Among seven genes viz FBXL10, LSD1, LSD2, KDM5A, KDM5B, KDM5C and KDM5D analyzed, LSD2 was found to be significantly associated with tumor stage and metastasis. The optimal cut-off value for LSD2 was 3.2 as calculated from ROC curve analysis for metastasis as well as TNM stage with area under curve of 0.74 and 0.78 respectively. In addition, LSD2 expression showed significant positive correlation with LSD1 expression in tumor metastasis. CONCLUSION The expression of LSD2 was associated with higher TNM stage and metastasis of the tumor and thus, might serve as a useful marker for ccRCC progression. BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to examine whether mothers with prior gestational diabetes (GDM) used different feeding practices for their children compared to those without prior GDM. We hypothesized that mothers with prior GDM would express a greater concern for their child's weight, and greater monitoring and restrictive feeding practices compared to non-diabetic mothers. METHODS Data for this secondary analysis came from studies examining body composition and metabolism in children (aged 4-10 years) born to women with (N = 41) and without (N = 71) GDM. A Child Feeding Questionnaire (CFQ) was used to assess maternal perception of the child's weight and her feeding practices. Analysis of covariance was used to assess group differences in feeding practices, after adjusting for parent study code, maternal education, child BMI-z, and maternal age. RESULTS In fully adjusted models, mothers with prior GDM did not express greater concern about their children's body weight as compared to those without prior GDM (P = 0.50). Restriction and pressure to eat also did not differ by group, and women with prior GDM reported less monitoring of their children's intake as compared to those without prior GDM (P  less then  0.05). CONCLUSION There is no evidence from this study that women with prior GDM are more concerned about their children's body weight or endorse more restrictive feeding practices than do those without prior GDM. Future research should investigate whether women with prior GDM are aware that their children have greater risk for obesity and comorbid health problems, and develop interventions to support parents in efforts to mitigate this risk.

A Child Feeding Questionnaire (CFQ) was used to assess maternal perception of the child's weight and her feeding practices. Analysis of covariance was used to assess group differences in feeding practices, after adjusting for parent study code, maternal education, child BMI-z, and maternal age. RESULTS In fully adjusted models, mothers with prior GDM did not express greater concern about their children's body weight as compared to those without prior GDM (P = 0.50). Restriction and pressure to eat also did not differ by group, and women with prior GDM reported less monitoring of their children's intake as compared to those without prior GDM (P  less then  0.05). CONCLUSION There is no evidence from this study that women with prior GDM are more concerned about their children's body weight or endorse more restrictive feeding practices than do those without prior GDM. Future research should investigate whether women with prior GDM are aware that their children have greater risk for obesity and comorbid health problems, and develop interventions to support parents in efforts to mitigate this risk.
