Three methods have been described in the literature landmark-based, surface-based and voxel-based 3D superimpositions.

    This article focuses on the voxel-based approach, which is the most described and the only one that can be fully automatized. The aim of this paper is to offer clinicians a practical tutorial on craniofacial voxel-based 3D superimposition.

    We provide an updated overview of the available implementation methods, describing their methodology, validations, main steps, advantages and drawbacks. The historical open-source method is the most widespread for research purposes, but takes around three hours to achieve for an experienced operator. Several commercially-available software perform superimpositions in a few minutes.

    We examined the phenotype of monocytes from a patient, who had LpX, severe hypercholesterolemia, and extensive cutaneous xanthomas, and effects of semiselective plasmapheresis therapy (SPPT).

    Fluorescence-activated cell sorting and adhesion assays were used to examine monocyte phenotype and exvivo oxidized low-density lipoprotein uptake and adhesion in the patient before and after treatment with SPPT. Effects of plasma from the patient on the phenotype and adhesion of monocytes from a healthy participant were determined.

    We performed a comprehensive literature search from several databases. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed in abstracting data and assessing validity. Quality assessment was performed using the Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale (NOS). D-dimer levels were pooled and compared between severe/non-severe and surviving/non-surviving patient groups. Weighted mean difference (WMD), risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were analyzed.

    Thirty-nine studies reported on D-dimer levels in 5750 non-severe and 2063 severe patients and 16 studies reported on D-dimer levels in 2783 surviving and 697 non-surviving cases. D-dimer levels were significantly higher in patients with severe clinical status (WMD 0.45mg/L, 95% CI 0.34-0.56; p<0.0001). Non-surviving patients had significantly higher D-dimer levels compared to surviving patients (WMD 5.32mg/L, 95% CI 3.90-6.73; p<0.0001). An increased BUN/albumin ratio was a powerful predictor of in-hospital mortality with an area under the curve of 0.793 (95% CI 0.753-0.833). In AZA group, the duration of remission was 22.2 ± 6.1 months and that was longer than CT group (P = 0.025).

We present the case of a patient who underwent initial lumbar decompression and thoraco-lumbar fusion, using posteriorly and laterally inserted cages. She developed proximal junctional failure, and despite several revision surgeries, she continued to suffer mechanical complications because of excessive lumbar lordosis. Eventually, we performed a posterior opening wedge osteotomy (POWO) of L3 to correct the hyperlordosis and there were no other mechanical complications. We expose the rationale for this treatment and the surgical procedure of the POWO. We also analyze and warn about the risk of overcorrecting lumbar lordosis and modifying the spinal curves' harmony in surgery of adult degenerative spine.

However, because most studies have included predominantly white participants, it is unknown whether findings generalize to older adults from more diverse backgrounds. This multi-site qualitative study assessed perceived benefits of group singing for socioeconomically and racially/ethnically diverse older adults. We interviewed 31 choir participants, 6 music professionals and 6 administrators involved in a large, cluster-randomized trial. We used content analysis to identify themes. Psychosocial engagement was most commonly reported, with six components emotional well-being, self-esteem, self-confidence, social connection and support, decreased loneliness, and cultural identity and multi-cultural appreciation. A few reported cognitive and physical benefits. They also suggest that group singing among ethnically diverse older adults can have multiple psychosocial benefits and enhance a sense of cultural identity and appreciation of other cultures. These findings can help in selecting structured outcome measures for choir interventions.
    Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is a complication of hematopoietic cell transplantation, and the small bowel is one of the main targets in the gastrointestinal tract. Capsule endoscopy is a safe procedure and can be useful in the diagnosis of GvHD. The aim of the present study was to compare the diagnostic yield of capsule endoscopy with the histopathologic findings in GvHD.

    A retrospective diagnostic test study included all the patients with suspected GvHD that underwent gastroscopy and colonoscopy, with histopathologic evaluation of the biopsies taken, and capsule endoscopy, within the time frame of July 2015 and July 2019. Capsule endoscopy findings were compared with the histopathologic diagnosis, considered the gold standard.

    Twenty-one patients with GvHD (7 [33%] women; 37±11.9 years of age) were included, 20 (95%) of whom had acute GvHD. The median gastric transit time of the capsule was 55minutes (20-113) and the median small bowel transit time was 261minutes (238-434). The entire small bowel was visualized through capsule endoscopy in 17 cases (80.95%). The histopathologic findings and capsule endoscopy findings resulted in the diagnosis of GvHD in 17 and 16 cases, respectively. There was agreement between the histopathologic and capsule endoscopy findings in 18 cases (15 positive and 3 negative). Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and diagnostic yield of capsule endoscopy were 88%, 75%, 94%, 60%, and 85%, respectively.

  • Since the 1980s, endoscopic ultrasound has advanced from being purely diagnostic to an interventional modality. The gastrointestinal tract offers an exceptional window for assessing the vascular structures in the mediastinum and in the abdomen. This has led to a rapidly growing interest in endoscopic ultrasound-controlled vascular interventions as a minimally invasive alternative to surgical and radiological procedures.
    The cause of most fetal anomalies is not determined prenatally. Exome sequencing has transformed genetic diagnosis after birth, but its usefulness for prenatal diagnosis is still emerging. Nonimmune hydrops fetalis (NIHF), a fetal abnormality that is often lethal, has numerous genetic causes; the extent to which exome sequencing can aid in its diagnosis is unclear.

    We evaluated a series of 127 consecutive unexplained cases of NIHF that were defined by the presence of fetal ascites, pleural or pericardial effusions, skin edema, cystic hygroma, increased nuchal translucency, or a combination of these conditions. The primary outcome was the diagnostic yield of exome sequencing for detecting genetic variants that were classified as either pathogenic or likely pathogenic according to the criteria of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Secondary outcomes were the percentage of cases associated with specific genetic disorders and the proportion of variants that were inherited.

The results of meta-analysis are presented in forest plots. This article explains why meta-analysis may be necessary, how a systematic review is conducted to identify studies for meta-analysis, and how to interpret the various elements in a forest plot. Brief discussions are provided about important concepts relevant to meta-analysis, including heterogeneity, subgroup analyses, sensitivity analyses, fixed effect and random effects meta-analyses, and the detection of publication bias. Other procedures briefly explained include meta-regression analysis, pooled analysis, individual participant data meta-analysis, and network meta-analysis.     This study aimed to examine the effects of suvorexant on delirium prevention in a real-world setting. Previous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of suvorexant for delirium prevention in limited randomized clinical trial settings; however, its effectiveness in everyday clinical settings remains unknown.

    A single-center, retrospective cohort study was conducted in the intensive care unit of an academic hospital. Patients (aged ≥ 3 years) admitted from January 2016 to December 2018 were eligible if they stayed in the intensive care unit for at least 72 hours. Suvorexant was prescribed by the attending physician for insomnia as part of everyday clinical practice. A Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was conducted on delirium-free survival for suvorexant users, adjusting for delirium-related covariates. As part of routine clinical practice, the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit was used to detect the existence of delirium at least twice daily throughout the intensive care unit stay.

    There were 699 patients-84 suvorexant users and 615 suvorexant nonusers. Delirium was detected in 214 patients. Delirium prevalence was significantly lower in suvorexant users than in nonusers (17.9% vs 32.4%, respectively; P = .007). Cox regression analysis revealed a significantly lower hazard ratio (0.472; 95% CI, 0.268-0.832; P = .009) of delirium in suvorexant users than in nonusers. Trazodone also had a preventive effect on delirium (hazard ratio 0.345; 95% CI, 0.149-0.802; P = .013).

    CanAssist Breast (CAB) is a prognostic test for early stage hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative (HER2-) breast cancer patients, validated on Indian and Caucasian patients. The low, intermediate, and high-risk groups with ODX old cut-offs were 62.4%, 31.2%, and 6.4%, respectively. We evaluated a series of 127 consecutive unexplained cases of NIHF that were defined by the presence of fetal ascites, pleural or pericardial effusions, skin edema, cystic hygroma, increased nuchal translucency, or a combination of these conditions. The trend of each SAT according to number of comorbidities was evaluated, and the difference in quality of life and depression according to self-management strategies was examined in the model classified by the number of diseases. Self-management strategy scores tended to decrease as the number of comorbidities increased from one to four (p-value 0.001 to 0.008). Regardless of the number of comorbidities, the MQOL score was higher in the good self-management strategy group (p less then 0.001 to 0.016). The prevalence of mild depression was higher in patients with low self-management strategy, but the differences were not significant. Methods We report four cases of CCD who received adequate resuscitation with appropriate replacement of their fecal salt and water losses. Three had associated inflammatory bowel changes at endoscopy. The index case of CCD who developed frankly bloodstained diarrhea aged 7 months was found to have histologically confirmed colitis at endoscopy. An electronic search of the hospital database to identify all patients with confirmed CCD was performed. A further three children underwent de novo diagnostic evaected. Extracted data included citation of each study, type of healthcare setting, location of the study, characteristics of patient population, type of chronic disease, name and type of PROM, mode of administration, and reported outcomes. Results Out of 6,869 articles, titles and abstracts of 5,416 articles and full text of 23 articles were screened in duplicate. Seven articles reporting results from six studies met eligibility criteria. Histological evidence of bowel inflammation is not typically described in CCD and has only been reported in a few patients. Methods We report four cases of CCD who received adequate resuscitation with appropriate replacement of their fecal salt and water losses. Three had associated inflammatory bowel changes at endoscopy. The index case of CCD who developed frankly bloodstained diarrhea aged 7 months was found to have histologically confirmed colitis at endoscopy. An electronic search of the hospital database to identify all patients with confirmed CCD was performed. A further three children underwent de novo diagnostic evaected. While early diagnosis and adequate salt replacement therapy are crucial in CCD management, the clinician should also be aware of bowel inflammation as a potential cause of failure of CCD therapy to control bowel symptomatology. Data Sources MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library. Web of Science database was searched selectively to ensure extended coverage. Study Selection We included longitudinal studies reporting on the integration of PROMs in routine pediatric clinical care of chronic diseases. Studies in languages other than English, published prior to the year 2000, and reporting on secondary data were excluded. Data Extraction Two reviewers independently extracted data from included studies. Extracted data included citation of each study, type of healthcare setting, location of the study, characteristics of patient population, type of chronic disease, name and type of PROM, mode of administration, and reported outcomes. Results Out of 6,869 articles, titles and abstracts of 5,416 articles and full text of 23 articles were screened in duplicate. Seven articles reporting results from six studies met eligibility criteria. Integration of PROMs increased the identification and discussion around health-related quality of life (HRQOL), especially in psychosocial and emotional domains, but showed mixed results with the impact on quality of care.
